More jostle for Chipolopolo job

Former Zambia National Team coach Herve Renard
SIXTEEN more foreign coaches have joined the race for the Zambia national team coaching job that was left vacant following the departure of Frenchman Herve Renard.

According to the list released by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) general secretary George Kasengele in Lusaka yesterday, coaches from various countries have shown interest in drilling the Chipolopolo.

Notables on the list include former Nigeria national team striker Samson Siasia and Eddie Hudanski, who is in charge of the Congo-Brazzaville national team.

Kasengele said Marcos Gusmao of Brazil, who coached Papua New Guinea, and Mamoud Guindez, who captained the Algeria national team at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, have also expressed interest in the Chipolopolo hot seat.

Former Ghana national team trainer Milan Zivadinovic, Sasa Nikolic from Croatia, Mario Marinic of United Kingdom, Milos Hristic, Predrag Juka (both from Croatia) and Amir Alajic of Bosnia have pushed in their applications. Other coaches who have sent their credentials are Thomas Borann of Germany and John Felix Kaputa of Malawi.

Kasengele named Gareth Lloyd of England, Zavia Milosavjevic, who has coached Rwanda Patriotic Army (APR) and the Lesotho national team previously, and Goran Kopunoviac both of Serbia as the other coaches that have shown interest in the job.
Kasengele said most of the coaches were sending their details through agents.

“We have not yet advertised for the job but coaches have already started sending their application forms. In fact we expect more to come,” Kasengele said.

And FAZ communications officer Erick Mwanza said the association is overwhelmed by the number of coaches that are sending application forms.

Mwanza said FAZ will inform the nation on any development that will be made regarding the appointment of the new coach.

Meanwhile, Mwanza said FAZ has not short-listed any coach to be in charge of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) team that will play South Africa next month.

He said the decision concerning the coach for the CHAN team will only be made after the executive committee meeting.

“The executive committee will be meeting soon to discuss the issue of the coach and the nation shall be informed on the way forward,” Mwanza said.

  1. #3 i agree with u, bring back polsen and let phiri b an assistant. when choosing the coach faz shud take into considerarion the language, we dont want translaters

  2. Coaching jobs are now on very high demand. There are some fake and unqualified coaches and there are those wo mean well. Cheap is not always the best option and neither is expensive. You need to be well balanced and choose the right candidate taking into consideration a lot of other factors. I am not into sports and so may not know what other factors to look for but I trust you can do a good job

  4. Do you have a track record of Poulsen? He was here for the second time and I feel its enough. Once bitten…..? As for Patrick Phiri what can we say about TZ league? It only has 11 teams? What have they done in CAF games? NOTHING. So PP is OUT! For Poulsen I think he belongs to the old school. Its like saying a PSL team should Jomo Sono. Unless someone can convince us that Poulsen has been coaching a top team. I feel we need to bring a coach with NEW ideas. FYI: FAZ has not even advertised for the post so as usual we will have a lot of chancers and speculators. Bola panshi.

  5. #3 Spot on! But it wouldnt be a bad idea to just have local coachers this time round. Its time we developed our own human resources

  6. Dear Mr Kalusha Bwalya and Family,
Thank you for your letter of 10 April .
After careful consideration I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your
refusal to offer me employment with Chipolopolo.
This year I have been particularly fortunate in receiving an unusually
large number of rejection letters some from Angola,Ghana,Ivory Coast to name but a few.
With such a varied and promising field of Employers, it is impossible
for me to accept all refusals.
I find that your rejection does not meet my needs at this time.
Therefore I will start work with FAZ Monday 26th April at Woodlands stadium.
    Yours
    Patriotic Zambian
    P/S Don’t call me I’ll call you. Mwajaila !!

  7. I have nothing against Poulsen and Patrick Phiri, but just the idea of falling back on theze two over and over again iz not the best. We may consult them here and there alright, but let’s give the full time job to somebody else with clear cut targets and job description.

  8. To me foreign or local is nothing but skill, experience and achievements is what matters. We want the best for Zambia.

  9. I understand Zedi sailet is doing fine as a coach in finland probably it is high time Faz looked in the direction of a local coach.:-?

  10. Poulsen is here in Cape town , I was with him 2 weeks ago, he told me , how he missed Zambia. He wished to go back one day… his involved in youth development,

  11. Dear Great Kalu,
I would like to put this in black and white, that please consider picking an expertiate – presumably from highly skillful countries like Brazil, but please please should be a local lad who will ultimately learn the rope. The local guy will assist in informing this mzungu the does and don`ts and even communicate to our boys in our local language.
Then believe you me, after 2 years, we won`t need any expertiate anymore but just elevate our assistant (watch whats happening in England Capello + Stuart Pearce)

    Best Regard.
Staunch Chipolopolo – but always lets down, and no where else to run, but remain Zedian.

  14. Lets go for John Felix Kaputa of Malawi and Lwandamina, this is a cheaper combination but highly knowlegable in coaching.

  15. #9 Chief Makweti that’s greater humor for Great Kalu! Your eloquence has left me open-mouthed (mauless):o

As for the Trainer’s job, I’m not much of an expert in soccer so I’ll just keep my fingers (and toes) crossed as I hope and pray for the best man to lead the copper bullets. It will be quite painful to see so much talent go to waste if the wrong man is picked.

  16. Local coaches are fake. Very bais when it comes to make a team, only they friends and relatives would be accorded chance to play FULL STOP Come on guys get a croatian

  17. Hey ba Kalu,Shaibu or Keshi great african coaches, zambian coaches good but out of ideas in crunch matches. Can only single out Patrick Phiri of the Zambian crop who else?

  18. One thing you guys are missing is that this position has NOT been advertised after all..so what this Erick and his friends at FAZ are doing is that they publish this means to imply they had advertised then Great Galu, will hand pick his choice, who will leave us in the same way….Zambians, we never learn.. Not until Galu goes, we will still be running in circles and we shall never have a qualified coach employed..NALEKA..!!

  19. I will miss Mr Herve Renard and his movie star looks…can we get another goodlooking coach please? For the sake of us Zambian ladies…I have never been so in love with soccer than under Renard 😉

  20. Could anyone who cares listen to former Zambian coach Buselic’s interview on BBC fast track as interviewed by a Zambian journalist. He has highlighted all the missing links in Zambian football. He makes a lot of sense. On the issue of the named coaches, as the applications were made in confidence is it not a breach to name applicants when the job has not even been advertised yet? I think this is unprofessional on the part of FAZ. I may be wrong but this is how I look at it.

  21. #29 i listened to the interview and he is concerned about poor organisation at grass root levels …( lower leagues…i don’t remember if he said something on schools ) but he feels FAZ should investment in young talent as earlier as 10yrs . so obviously tapping talent from school is ideal .the strange thing at the moment is that a lot of companies donate so much for the senior team to a point that even the president plays a part like the last qualifiers…but nothing for lower levels . maybe things will now change since coach buselic is such a hero in zambia and everyone in charge can learn from this man’s vast experience .appoint him director of sport at FAZ . he won’t be the first man with 2 jobs…

  22. 1. Choose the best local coach
    2. Provide funds for world class training facilities
    3. Stop the cheap politics and let the coach do the job

  23. The only Zambian who is qualified is Kalusha himself. He is the ONLY Zambian I know who has a EUFA ‘A’ License !!! Anyone else know of any other Zambian (other than the late Ben Bamfucile (R.I.P) who is qualifioed enough?

  24. when it comes to picking the next coach rest assured that the highest bidder gets the job not the best coach. knowing the current crop at FAZ it is what is in it for them than for Zambian soccer. after all the kickbacks to kalu and his cronies, some obscure chap with doubtfull credentials will lead chipolopolo. watch this space.

  25. How can you choose a coach who has previously coached Lesotho and Rwanda, I mean where are those counties on the football mpa right now? get real abena Kasengele.

  26. Try John Felix Kaputa of Malawi. He took Malawi’s Flames U-17 to World Cup. He has ever coached the senior Flames, is a disciplinarian, he just retired last year from Malawi Defence Forces. He is intelliegent and has several coaching certificates he acquired with Malawi’s army foreign training in UK and Malawi FA.
    Regards.
