Give us chance, RB urges Milanzi

Share

President Rupiah Banda has appealed to the people of Milanzi to give the MMD Government chance to complete the projects being undertaken in the constituency by voting for the ruling party’s candidate Whiteson Banda in the April 29 by-election.

The president said yesterday that he was confident the people of Milanzi would vote for Mr Banda because of the many development projects the Government had introduced in the area.

Speaking when he addressed his first political rally to drum up support for the MMD candidate at Kafumbwe High School grounds yesterday, President Banda urged the people of Milanzi not to be swayed by promises of opposition political parties but to continue supporting the Government.

He said the Government had built a number of schools and clinics, including the sinking of boreholes in the constituency.
“I feel confident that you people of Milanzi you are going to cast your vote for the MMD candidate in this by-election because of the tremendous work the MMD Government has done in the constituency,” he said.

The president, who had earlier held a private meeting with chiefs who included Kathumba and Mbang’ombe and a number of village headmen, said he had taken note of the request made by the traditional leaders that they needed more schools, clinics, a good road network and improved water sanitation in the area.

He assured the people of Milanzi the Government was committed to serving them and taking development to the area and the whole Zambia.

Mr Banda said it was unfortunate the people of Milanzi had to go to the polls again after a year, adding that the late Milanzi Member of Parliament, Reuben Banda did not have enough time to complete development projects in the constituency.

He urged them to vote for the MMD candidate so that the Government could continue with projects.

Mr Banda said it was not possible for any person to take development to all parts of the constituency in one year. The MMD Government needed more time to complete the projects that had been initiated in the constituency.

He said he too was not satisfied with the levels of development which the Government had so far recorded and would like to seek another term of office to serve the people of Zambia.

“If I am selected by my party, I am ready to contest the 2011 elections so that I can defeat the opposition leaders and continue serving the people of Zambia,” Mr Banda said.

He said he would like to seek another term of office to create more jobs and build more schools throughout Zambia.
He assured farmers the crop marketing season would start soon to prevent them from being cheated by unscrupulous buyers.
Mr Banda is today expected to hold another rally at Kawaza and Kagoro basic schools.

Among the people who attended the rally were Home Affairs Minister Lameck Mangani, MMD campaign manager, Eustarckio Kazonga, Eastern Province Minister Isaac Banda, Education Minister Dora Siliya, Agriculture and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Allan Mbewe, MMD provincial chairperson Kennedy Zulu, and Home Affairs Deputy Minister, David Phiri.

  1. When you take a gamble on someone you DONT give them a 2nd chance to impress.

This PRESIDENT is a FAILURE to the people.

  2. If the goverment has failed its people for 18 years then why would anybody consider giving them more time to do the same.

MMD needs to be sent to retirement NOW.
The government can steal for so long until the people realize there will be no CHANGE until they remove the problem in the country.

REMOVE MMD BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE ZAMBIA!
THESE OLD FOOLS IN MMD ARE JUST THIEVES.

  3. He said the Government had built a number of schools and clinics, including the sinking of boreholes in the constituency

Which is which,,,,,ubufi bwakunya (quoting from his own words)

  4. The same old tired song ‘ vote for us so we can finish what we started’ Only a f.o.o.l will buy that.
Mr Rupiah Bwezani Banda please go back to your farm and rest. Don’t you think you have caused enough damage already?

  5. What chance does the MMD want? 20 years in power you still want chance. I guess its chance to enrich yourselves.

  6. This is a lie from the president. All the projects around the country are part of LPM’s fifth national development plan so even a chicken can easily implement them .What are your programmes as RB people are asking? The bottomline is our current president does not give hope and inspiration to most Zambians.I do understand that what people think about him is not his fault but what he makes people think about him is clearly his baby.

  7. Why is times putting so much stuff from Times Of Zambia. But wait a minute, Times of Zambia/Lusaka Times…. are we talkning of sister entities here?

  8. I JOIN THE RED CARD TEAM…..I AM NOT ASKING ZAMBIANS TO VOTE FOR A CERTAIN POLITICAL PARTY BUT SIMPLY ASKING THEM TO REMOVE THE FAILURES..

    REMEMBER-I AM NON PARTISAN

ZAMBIA IS OURS NOT ONLY FOR THEM

  9. Among the people who attended the rally were Home Affairs Minister Lameck Mangani, MMD campaign manager, Eustarckio Kazonga, Eastern Province Minister Isaac Banda, Education Minister Dora Siliya, Agriculture and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Allan Mbewe, MMD provincial chairperson Kennedy Zulu, and Home Affairs Deputy Minister, David Phiri. If it was HH or King cobra Senior citizen, MMD Chief B,KC and other fake caders could have said WHAT? Time time its your time wako in wako come on guys

  10. The only sad story is that the name MMD remains, otherwise the whole team is made up of New Managers.

All old MMD corrupt people are out of the party or hold no power in GRZ, the list,

    SATA, NAWAKWI, KAVINDELE, CHILUBA,MWANAWASA,KAWIMBE,GENERAL TEMBO…..

That is the reason why I cant vote for Sata, or NawakwiIt is actually the some MMD that Destroyed Industry in Zambia under a new name of PF.

RB is only 3 years old in MMD, not 20 years old, THE PROBLEM is dont blame the civil servants who most time are at the centre of Corruption, If i was to be president, i would retire all the civil servants and get fresh one from UNZA, CBU and from most colleges

  11. MRK – Corruption And Swindle At ZCCM-IH
Even though ZCCM-IH has significant share holdings in foreign mining company’s local mining operations, it is either not receiving, or worse receiving but not paying out dividends to it’s shareholders.
We already know that in an industry that officially makes over $2.5 billion in profits, the entire take for the Zambian revenuers for 2010 is estimated at a laughable $50 million.
Not content with swindling the Zambian taxpayers, the foreign mining companies also swindle their shareholders out of their legally obligated dividend payments.
Now of course, how much dividend are they going to pay of they are already evading taxes on a massive scale? The one seems to follow the other.

  12. If they were honest in their dividend payments (usually around 50% of profits), they would have to own up to how much profit they actually made. Which would show how much taxes they have been evading. Their financial records are less than transparant and open. The interim financial report from 2006, published in 2008 is the most recent, and it doesn’t even open properly. ZCCM-IH has not paid out any dividends, which is fraud. Either they are being defrauded by the mining companies and those companies are not paying ZCCM-IH dividends, or the directors and managers are keeping the dividends themselves.
Either way, the people of Zambia and in this case, the shareholders of ZCCM-IH are being defrauded out of their rightful money.

  13. And as ZCCM-IH is 86.6% owned by the government, the government is complicit in this fraud.
And this is interesting – the Finance Minister, Situmbeko Mosokotwane, is a director of ZCCM-IH. So he should know EXACTLY what is going on with this company and Zambia’s money.
Also interesting – ZCCM-IH is listed Eurenext in Paris, the London Stock Exchange and the Lusaka Stock Exchange. I wonder if embezzling dividends is actually illegal for companies listed at any of those exchanges.
According to MBENDI.CO.ZA, ZCCM-IH has the following share holding:

  14. Konkola Copper Mines Plc – Chingola, Zambia (20.6%)
Copperbelt Energy Corporation – Kitwe, Zambia (20%)
Kansanshi Mining Plc – Zambia (20%)
Chibuluma Mines Plc Zambia – Zambia (15%)
Luanshya Copper Mines Plc – Zambia (15%)
Chambishi Metals Plc – Zambia (10%)
Mopani Copper Mines Plc – Kitwe, Zambia (10%)

  15. Shareholder: Government of Zambia – Zambia (86.6%)
    Directors and shareholders are:
    Chairperson (Non-Exec.): Mr GK Chibuye
    Director: Dr DH Kalyalya
    Director: Mr GP Mukala
    Director: Dr S Musokotwane (Situmbeko)

  16. The names of the current non-executive directors as indicated below:
    Mr A. J. Lungu – Non-Executive Chairman
Mr L. Ndalamei (Secretary to the Treasury)
Dr D. H. Kalyalya (Bank of Zambia deputy governor for Operations)
Dr G. M. Beene (mines ministry permanent secretary)
    Dr S. M. Bwalya
    Mr P. Mumba
Mr O. B. Munyenyembe (Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) secretary general)

  17. I never knew that Godfrey (or is it Godwin) Beene was not only MP for Itehzi Tehzi, and head of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee, but that he is also Mines Ministry Permanent Secretary.
So as head of the Parliamentary Estimates Committee, he sent Secretary to the Treasury James Mulungushi packing because there was something he did not like about the Windfall Tax – which would have cost the mines money.
    Hmmm…

  18. One thing I have followed in the political theatre is the drama at hand of the opposition Lusaka constituency No doubt the opposition chaps are distressed and mesmerized leaving them in defense overdrive when juxtaposed with MMD under Chairman William Banda in Lusaka constituency.

I did forewarn to cut on insults and intelligently counter the challenge that had befallen them at hand in account of Chairman William Banda. This is a seasoned savvy grassroot political magnet that has grown in the Lusaka political trenches.

  19. There is no Zambian politician in contemporary politics who understands and systematically connects better with the grassroot politics like Chairman Banda in Lusaka today. Few months on, there it is! WB has obliterated the opposition in Lusaka constituency within month with much easy.

Jean kapata PF is a natural failure for the people of Mandevu, Mazyopa, Kabanana site and service, Chaisa, Chipata and Chazanga compounds. She is a stranger that has lamentably failed to fit in that vast and complicated constituency. From nursing she has had no connection with voters and failed on meeting their basic social needs other than issuing illegal plots.

  20. This is what I remember that incident from, but I could not put it into context at the time:
    (TIMES) Treasury officials sent packing
    Treasury officials sent packing

THE parliamentary estimates committee yesterday sent back the team led by acting Secretary to the Treasury James Mulungushi because they did not present satisfactory explanations on the new mining tax regime. Dr Mulungushi was in the company of Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General and other senior members of staff from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning.

  21. But WB armed with experience, natural connectedness and demographic biases has put Kapata and PF on a live wire in futile defense. What will PF and kapata tell those people of mazyopa what value her 5 years tenure has done for them? Even the noise and smear from Bangladesh-Zambia Given Lubinda who himself has failed Kabwata or indeed Winter Kabimba who has only gained insulting experience in politics compounded, the PF game is over.

All these rubble rousers are no match to Chairman William Banda in grassroot politics. The sooner the opposition realized that they are in unchartered waters in Lusaka and devised smart countervailing strategies than useless threat and running for smear in the post Tabloid the better.

  22. Dr Mulungushi and his team were asked to prepare a fresh report that would satisfy the committee chaired by Itezhi Tezhi MP Godfrey Beene, and present it by tomorrow. Mr Beene described the report by Dr Mulungushi as unsatisfactory and ordered him to prepare a fresh one, which should be presented before the committee by tomorrow.

Mr Beene told Dr Mulungushi that the committee members were not satisfied because the report left out key details of the proposed windfall tax on copper mines.
Dr Mulungushi had also said that Government plans to open a special account at the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) to keep the excess revenue from the mines.
Dr Mulungushi further said that Government has set up a committee to plan on how the projected revenue of US$415 million would be raised under the new tax…

  23. UPND may have a chunk in Chawama, John Howard, Kuomboka and maybe john Lang voting blocks due to HH’s tribal politics and the demographic imbalance in those spots, but getting Lusaka blindly rallying behind them is a myth.

Now in confusion there is ignoramus Winter Kabimba voluntarily exposing his illiteracy. With his “Anti-Christ” barbarious rhetoric of scourging Zambians he hates, he is citing the Burma…Niger…Equatorial Guinea, and Iran under the Shar hegemony that constitutes no parallel to constitutional democratic Zambia that has a tradition of holding open elections every five years and the military have no role in politics. Ignorance, immaturity, shame and distress have overtaken PF Kaponyas

  24. Dr Mulungushi further said that Government has set up a committee to plan on how the projected revenue of US$415 million would be raised under the new tax regime.
This prompted the committee to question why the projected revenue of US$415 million was not included in the national budget. The committee argued that it is only parliament that has the authority to approve any expenditure and not the executive.
“As a committee, we are looking at the legal position on new mining tax and the position on the setting aside of the excess revenue and why is this money not included in the budget. We are disappointed because you have failed to give us the legal position on these important matters,” Mr Beene said.

  25. I think things start to fall into place. The Mines have a reprentative among the board of directors at ZCCM-IH.

  26. Someone tell me the parallel of democratic Zambia to Hegemonic, militarism and theocracy juntaism of Burma…Niger…Captain Camara’s Equatorial Guinea, Iran under the Shar hegemony. What constitutes a parallel to constitutional Zambia which Kabimba and his Anti-Christ barbarious rhetoric of scourging Zambia is citing.

  27. Chapwansa^:)^^:)^^:)^^:)^

do you have the whole report?,,,that makes very interesting reading

on another note: argony is being an MMD cader working in some embassy,no matter how much noise you make campaigning,,whether MMD wins 2011 or lose you are bound to be recalled back home to give chance to other caders,,,the end is neigh

  28. We gave a chance to this Jokers…but he opted to use that Chance to learn how to Fly…i wonder what next he wl learn to do when given a second Chance…

  29. So does the President mean that if they vote for the opposition, he will halt the projects? This is blackmail from the President! You can’t hold development hostage. And how long will the MMD be given a chance? You have had 19 years to develop this country! We heard the same talk from Chiluba (third term) Mwanawasa (running for a second term) and now RB! Surely, how many chances should we give the MMD? It seems every president has his own agenda even though it is the same party. This is unacceptable! There should be continuity! RB was even a veep in one of the administrations, so he can’t claim that he has been ruling for only 1 year, this man has been in power since 2006. That is 4 years! Obama has only been in office barely 2 years and yet people are not happy about the rate of job…

  30. Cont from 32
People are not happy about the rate at which the economy is creating jobs, and he is being blamed for it. After the one year grace period, he can no longer blame Bush. So, Mr RB, your holiday is over, get to work. We do not see results soon, you ass is grass come 2011!

  31. RB another term!!!!!!!!!! to complete What?!!!!!!! this is nonsense! If people make a mistake and vote for you again, you will even leave Zambia and start leaving on the MOON.

  32. Senior Citizen, what hogwash. All you do is delude yourself. What f.o.o.l would believe your s.h.i.t.
Elyo imwe ba Chapanswa go practise writing your dissertation else where. You are off topic.

  33. The delegation:
    Rupiah Banda
    Whiteson Banda
    Isaac Banda
    Allan Mbewe
    Kennedy Zulu
    David Phiri
    Lameck Mangani
    Dora Siliya

Not a single Tonga, Bemba, Kaonde, Lala, Lozi or Lamba on the MMD team. If there is tribalism within the party, what more outside it?

  34. Indeed the people of Zambia need development and it was nice to hear the President talk about the development of roads. One cannot wait long enough to see a day when all those washed away roads in our townships will come back to life. My only concern is the quality of the roads. We seem to be opting for DESPOSABLE roads. A road starts having pot holes just after being in use for six months, e.g. Mama Mokola road – From Ndola – Kabwe road to Ndola – Kitwe dual carriage. Please road engineers this is our country let us make it better.

The campaign in Milanzi! Was it necessary to have the minister and his deputy going to campaign in the same place even though accompaning the President? I mean Home Affairs. Some one advise.

  35. What chance mangweele unip was in power for 27 years plus RB’s 3 years term iyabantu babeene ba levy, ten years is more than enough for any political party to rule mudala period.ama origional key founders have been reduced to boot lickers, what a shame, viva red card kuya come 2011.

  36. Thanks for the Break down Lollipop. I have never seen such a tribalist in my life. And you think this man can unite Zambia? Please Zambians in the rest of the eight provinces show this man that we can’t stand for this anymore. Imagine if he wins the in 2011. The entire civil service will be full of easteners.

  37. KK, FTJ, Levy all talked about finishing projects. Can a human being do this if Jesus himself has taken +2000?

  38. I’m saying it is not our problem to be voted into power because you see zambian forget so easilly , and so we keep on enjoying and come 2011 we are in office with the help of CHINA .All what we will do is start putting tarmac for 200 metres only for every township road throught out the country ,and then delay the projects so that people see that we are working after winning the elections next year abondon everything all together.ASK MY FRIEND MMD CHIEF BOOT LICKER MUZACHIONA IMWE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MMD FORE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SICHONCHO BABA, SURE MWAMI UMOZI KUMAWA KWASILA

  39. MMD KUYA BEBELE. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. WE CAN’T ALLOW ALL THIS NONSENSE. WE NEED TO MAKE ZAMBIA A MODERN NATION IT BE IN RURAL OR URBAN. ACCESS TO GOOD EDUCTAION, HEALTH, CLEAN ACCOMODATION AND CLEAN WATER SHOULD NOT BE FOR THE RICH BUT FOR EVERY ZAMBIAN.

  40. It is not possible for this tribalist president to include any non easterner in his delegation, remember he went on record to declare that those from outside eastern province must be chased away.

  41. betters ##12
You would retire all the civil servants and get fresh one from UNZA, CBU and from most colleges. What do you mean? How old is Kapoko? so bafana you want to root our economy. Just enjoy this year next Muleya Mudala

  42. Senior Citizen
Ka N.M wasamwa sana pa Canada next year ulebwela. after you have never won any election not even bu councilor. I am told 2006 you wanted to stand on PF ku Chinsali but you were chased like a baby. Time time come on guys

  44. Hi Chapanswa (post 13 and on) , thanks *a lot* for distributing my post here. I want as many people to read it as possible, and to get involved – please leave a comment on the website, everyone who knows something or has inside information or just personal experience with ZCCM-IH and their activities, like attending a shareholder meeting (if they have any).

30 RED CARD-Smoothcriminal and everyone here:

Read the whole post and comments at maravi.blogspot /com.

  45. Give RB another term pliz!!! He has not finished globe tour. He should be able to finish visiting all countries in all the four continents by the end of the term. He such a wonderful traveller, especially that he does not use his pocket money but wasting our taxes

  46. Bushe uyu ati senior citizen mutuntulu sure nangu lishilu?I just can’t imagine a person in his right mind supporting the load of crap the MMD goverment has subjected this potentially rich country to.People like you senior citizen are the reason why Zambia and the rest of black Africa can never see development. You are a curse to the black race.

  47. SENIOR CITIZEN
It’s difficult to understand what your goal is at the end of the day. Whoever pays you needs to evaluate your performance on here because all you do 24/7 is alienating and antagonizing everyone. My free advice to you my fellow countryman is ditch your unnecessary arrogance, forget your Harvard English instead adopt effective communication skills and with humility and sincerity explain to us commoners what plans this Government has in store to arrest the ever increasing army of unemployed youth and adults alike, ever increasing number of street kids, health care, roads and so on and so forth otherwise it’s a waste time mate. This animosity on the blog is helping nobody and its pointless to come here everyday only to argue with people we dont even know.

  48. I cannot imagine Makwerekwere being in power so long! They employ all their mates from Malawi and that means no chance for the real Zambians. RB is not a zedian, so is that chap (who was deported by Chiluba – Only good thing Chiluba did!). Yet they have all the power and seems to be walking with the national budget in his pocket!

Its such a Joke! The politician needs to be shown who is in charge and thats the people of Zambia.

    He needs to go!
