President Rupiah Banda re-opening the Albidon Nickel Mine in Mazabuka recently

Republican President Rupiah Banda will tomorrow, Tuesday, expected to commission the first phase of the Konkola Deep Mining Project and the Smelter at the Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) on the Copperbelt Province.

The President will officially open the first phase of the Konkola Deep Mining Project in the Copperbelt town of Chililabombwe, which is expected to create about 500 jobs. About 1,000 people were employed during the construction of the project.

President Banda will later travel to Chingola to launch the Smelter at KCM, which will process about 300,000 tonnes of copper per annum. The Smelter is expected to create about 500 jobs on the Copperbelt Province as well.

The commissioning of the Konkola Deep Mining Project and the Smelter comes barely a month after President Banda re-opened a key mine in Southern Province, Munali Nickel Mine.

The President Banda will leave the Copperbelt Province on Wednesday for Northwestern Province where he is expected to visit Mwinilunga District.

The President will hold meetings with traditional leaders and Government officials in the area before returning to Lusaka.

This is according to the press statement made available by the special assistant for press and public relations Dickson Jere.

  1. Cheers to GRZ, that is what we need in Zambia so that our brothers that far end can get employment, feed themselves and families too. This will also improve our economy in one way or the other.
Hoping no more cheap labour, need more money in our locals pockets as well

  2. You are most well come, however, does it mean that you can only go to N.Western Province when there by election. Last time you went there, in Solwezi there was election
We just hear that you out of the country, in southern and ESTERN KUMAWA.

  3. #2 Learn to read with your eyes than read with your mind with imaginations. The president is going to Mwinilunga district and not Mufumbwe. There is no by-election in Mwinilunga district. We have already deployed Vice President George Kunda in Mufumbwe and there is no need for the two of them to be there, besides we still have 10 days before campaign closes, we can always send the president to Mufumbwe if need be. Right now not necessary.

  4. MMD plonkers on the Copperbelt will be cheering the arrival of the undertaker. Bwezani will not be effective in Mufumbwe as he is still sulking at being left out of the wedding of the year in Malawi. As far as campaigns go he is a dead man walking.

  5. In Chingola and Chililabombwe, RB should realize that miners dont like him because he never supported them when they wanted a pay rise from KCM management. The roads in the townships are bad. Then Indians get more money than Zambian miners. Please sort these problems if u want a vote from these two towns. I guess this is asking too much from you! :-?:-?:-w:-w:-w

  6. MMD chief bootlicker gives us a break.. Do you honestly think you can counter the tide thats going against your master and the MMD government. Stop all this hogwash, give yourself a break, in fact start thinking how you are going to transport your katundu from SA when MMD is out of government.

  7. 5, Mr Clean are you “the miners” or you are just an individual with an own opinion which you mistake to be everybody’s opinion? That is what we used to hear from Kambwili.

  8. #8 Katie Good – it is good to make people remember that Kambwili is benefiting from the Chinese his party hates so much ;););)

  9. 5 Mr Clean, there is no responsible leader anywhere in the world who will support the hooliganism that was exhibited during the miners’ strike that you referred to. Learn to reason and to be patient if you are to get anywhere in life.

  10. In chingola a town that was once the cleanest town in Zambia roads are very bad. Most of the roads which were tar roads now they are gravel. Sekela buyantashi road is now all dust, I learnt my driving lessons there when the whole Buyantashi had tar raodsall of them. Now the location is turning into Buyanuma and that’s the place where most of the mines live

  11. the volcano ashes seem not to have affected flights in zambia, i would be happy to hear that the zambian airspace is closed due to the ashes maybe we can keep Bwezani at statehouse for afew days

  12. The area MP for Chingola is KATEMA, Joseph (Dr), (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). He is in the PF. He should be able to explain what is happening with the roads in Chingola.

The Chingola Municipal Council must also be able to explain what is happening with the roads there.

  13. With this kind of development, it will be hard for MMD to lose next years election. Even those who unchristianly hate RB & MMD are begining to contradict their hard feelings. Well done RB! Well done MMD!

  14. A government can only work for the people when there is a formidable opposition. Its a pity our opposition is busy squabling for the hot seat instead of working with government to develop Zambia.

  15. This is very very commendable.Atleast we have employment for our locals whose benefits trickle down to all family members. What can one say,Keep it up RB!

  16. # 17 what employment are you talking about we dont see it in chingola, the blody indians came with there own welders from Punjab. we have our local well trained from Nortec, Don Bosco, Luansha trades and they are just looming the streets I was Chingola just last week I was Chingola last year for half a year so stop cheating yoursel we know what is going on the ground. your development is just in your pockets

  17. Patriotic Front demo fails
By ALEX NJOVU and NKOMBO KACHEMBA

KITWE residents yesterday shunned the opposition Patriotic Front (PF) demonstration that was supposed to be held at Kaunda Square in protest against alleged attacks on their president Michael Sata by Government.

And MMD Copperbelt chairman Joseph Chilambwe commended Kitwe residents for staying away from the demonstration.

A Zambia Daily Mail crew that went to the scene found a handful of PF supporters clad in their party attire loitering around Kaunda Square.

They later joined Change Life Zambia executive director Father Frank Bwalya at the Kitwe magistrates court.

  18. This is no development or creating jobs for the people of Zambia. RB and the MMD are just campaigning. RB does not even like going round kuma villages and small towns in Zambia. Once the erections are over and he goes through he will start touring the best places in the world

  19. LT even I have to complain. Your news like everything else since technology leaped in bounds has become stale and boring. Three years ago you were exciting. All we get in these times is politics galore. Monday, Friday and the weekend are your only remaining entertaining days.

  20. Chigola is like a S.hit hole. Indians are working in places were zambians could be working, what are PF who hold chigola doing ?. Instead of trageted demeos and campains, they are behaving like Fr Bwalays and getting them selves locked up. When the torch is shown on the ares they hold like chingola with all the above issues, PF cadres hide in the bushes only to emerge when Frank Bwlaya is mouthing off.

  21. Makandi yenu! adao you I.D.I.O.T.S know what miners are going through in these two towns this guy is visiting? There are no jobs to talk about. We have welders, artisans, even casual laboureres fron India who are currently doing jobas that can be done by Zambias.Just come to Chingola and check at the main entrance to plant how unemployed youths come very early in the morning to wait for jobs which are not even forthcoming. We have more than 1,000 Indians in KCM doing jobs that can be done by local people and you fools in Lusaka and MMD S.t.i.n.k.y a.s.s.e.s like Senior Citizen and Capitalist are supporting Fi colour fwenu

  22. Katie #8 you dont know what we miners go through here. Nchanga mine produces alot copper for this country but look at the state of our roads. STOP THINKING WITH YOUR STOMACH!!!!!!!

  23. Pujabis are the ones who have populated Cananda and Australia etc. Don’t allow too many Mwenyes. They are welcome but we only need those who can do jobs which Zambians are not qualified to do.

  24. As a person who grew up in chingola, l was not impressed with the dilapidation the town has undergone, it is a welcoming news to hear that more jobs will be created.

  25. I know that we dont like RB but if he is doing a developmental project, let us support him and not politicise everything.

  26. did you all know that the so called smelter has been running and is full of mwenye contracted labour……so which 500 people are going to be employed ba shetani…..
