The Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has refuted claims by the Professional Teachers Union of Zambia (PETUZ) that it is losing membership.
ZNUT General Secretary Newman Bubala said in an interview that the union is infact increasing its membership.
Mr Bubala said all unions exist to represent teachers’ rights and that no union should portray itself as more superior than the others. He said contrary to claims being made by PETUZ, ZNUT is a highly professional and organized union body.
He added that those claiming that ZNUT is losing members and has been compromised by the opposition are not being factual.
Mr Bubala has since called for unity among the teachers’ unions as they are all fighting for a common cause.

It iz very sad that our learned teacherz who impart knowledge in people should allow themslves to be divided. A trained and qualified teacher at nursary, primary and secondary school with a certificate, diploma or degree still remainz a TEACHER. This PEPTUZ, SESTUZ and several other teaher unions have just weakened the once strong ZNUT. Swallow your pride, harmonize your operationz and speak with one vioce as learned TEACHERS that you should be.
I wonder if this is the name ‘MR’ Bubala from Chongwe Sec in the 8o’s.?
During those days,Unions were respected as they spoke with one voice unlike now when they have diluted their power to form so many splinter unions.
I hear there is even a union for the Unions themselves.
That there iz a teacher union each for certificate, diploma, degeree, masters and pHD holderz. And also a teacher union each for nursary, primary, basic, secondary and high school teacherz.
