Grandstand: A Lucky Break With CHAN

Share

Faz on Tuesday dropped the bomb by unveiling the legendary Lucky Msiska as assistant to the Zambia bench for the sides Sudan 2011 Orange CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

The former Zambian midfielder returns to the bench the second time after a previous brief stint in 2005.

He will be assisting CHAN team head coach George Lwandamina and Wedson Nyirenda should Zanaco be agreeable to his appointment to help with Zambia’s two-match CHAN qualifying matches against South Africa next month.

However, for some insiders spoken to, Msiska second coming looks like the makings of a long-term move as Zambia searches for a permanent replacement to Herve Renard.

Speculation in press circles have been swirling for the last fortnight that the Belgium-based Msiska was a potential candidate for the job although he had not made an official application for the Zambia post.

And now following his inclusion in the CHAN squad it is seen as possible chance for Msiska improve his chances of making a possible short list for the senior job when Faz official beings its quest to recruit a new coach.

“Don’t rule out Msiska on the list of coaches,” a highly placed source said.

Meanwhile, with the next World Cup qualifiers two years away, it will be difficult for Faz to convince corporate bankrollers to commit to a big paycheck to Zambia’s next coach as they did for Renard who was hired in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup thus Faz recent announcement to headhunt from a shortlist of four.

And so it looks like Faz are going bargain hunting as qualifiers for the 2012 Africa Cup to be jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea loom five months over the horizon.

  1. Yes, let us give Muchofe- chance- then next time will try that short man- i mean Johnstone- guess these guys can do the job, but we need to respect them-

  2. Lucky is a good guy but will Kalusha swallow his pride and allow another Zambian a chance to better his record. That is the dilemma. Kalusha must be be removed from that job because he compares himself with every Zambian tha comes to Soccer and he wants to be seen to be the best. Serious superiority complex in Kalu is killing zambian football.

  3. During those old good days, I remember Msiska was a good dribbler and winger. I hope he will inspire the young Zambian team.In his last days, I remember watching Lwandamina struggling when his club Mighty was drowned by City at Woodlands Stadium. What was good about Lwandamina was his committment and not give up attitude as a player. I am convinced he acquired a lot of skills working with that french polony and our standard of play will not change. I hope our team meet Angola and we beat the hell out of them to shame the french devil!=d>%-(%-(%-(%-(

  4. Is it just me or is LT losing it edge? I find myself coming to the site less and less. It seems there are no more compelling stories. Nothing on the headlines seems to grab my attention anymore.

  5. some people and Kalusha…it looks like in some people’s minds Kalu has brought bad but no a BIG NO…we as a country have made this game to be like this. the day we abandoned the fallen heroes and their families is the day our football went to the dogs. you want to see a change?????let us go back to honoring our dead heroes, giving them their rightful place in the history of our game, we should accept that they died on national duty and we should look at the plight of their immediate families then we can be the ZAMBIA we have to be.

  6. sickening and petty. thats what you lot are. just listen to yourselves
how does kalu come in? i can assure you all, just as you have distracted kalusha in everything he has attempted to do and not give any fairness or credit, so will it be for any come back indigenous professional be it lucky, johnstone or charles. because these are accomplished self conident hard working guys but in your eyes you will misinterpret it at arrongance and pompsity. what,s wrong with someone referrencing his/her credentials?
nonsense!!! kalu just leave these people alone, you are going nowhere. period

  7. Ba *****. What has Great Kalu done kuli imwe? The man has changed the outlook of our national team and still all you can see is his alleged big ego! Mukatasha lilali imwe? Until the guy kicks the bucket then you start mouthing how great he was? Well, take from me, he is not going anywhere until we move that team to greater hieghts.

  8. Yes, let us give Mwana-wa-Kwithu a chance. And this time around, let us pay our coaches a reasonable wage, not an example of a salary. Motivated coaches will motivate the players and consequently, we have a motivated team that will bring the results we want, not “if” and “when” every time we are in a tournament or qualifiers.Kalusha must not interfere in this matter; he has the penance of spoiling things. Viva Mwana-wa-Kwithu viva.

  9. This is the only way Lucky will get a chance to coach a National team . France , Holland will not give him a chance. He has been coaching the youth in Belgium the past 15 years. I am sure he is not progressing. Let us support our own. Who needs Samson Siasia !!

  10. I wonder why Charlie and Kalu cannot work together, that was going to a good combination of success like we had Alex Chola and Godfrey Ucar Chitala. One thing you should know is in sports you can only survive if you bring desired results-winning and being on the top. Anything below that is failure

  11. Great Kalu is a good guy. a few frustrated chaps make everyone else believe he is bad. what is it that people want him to do for him to be appreciated surely? only outsiders are able to objectively judge his contribitions, why cant it start from here? Let us support him. Go Kalu!, Go Msiska! Go Zambia!!!

  12. Kalu is soccer and his heart is soccer and a national hero. I think he even dreams soccer and kicks with his deft left footer in his sleep This is the right man for the job . He adds value to whatever position he holds or do in football circles.

When we mix and discuss African soccer with people from other countries and introduce one self that you hail from Zambia, its Kalu’s name that come to many people’s minds. The man is a legend who has brought a lot of honour to Zambia in football circles. Reflect on our soccer history and give this man the respect he deserves. He is my agemate by the way! Kalu you are great!! Plse do what you can do best for the Zambian soccer. You are well known even here in Japan! Legends are legends period. You cant take anything away from him.=d>=d>

  13. When all is said and done , we want Zambia to be at chan in Sudan and lift the cup. all the rest will be set aside.please name the team and start preparations. We are tired of name calling, We want the goals now.good lucky zambia.

  14. msisika is coming bcoz kalu as president of faz has allowed all those 3 (lundamina, nyirenda and msisika)to work together. But some pipo r still saying kalu is the stumbling block. How…?kalu is jst smart.

  15. The problem is with a few Zambians who believe in all the negativity of the Post on someone the papers dislikes or wish to bring down, they have been brain washed so much that they think Kalu is against or does not relate with his fellow former KK11 stars to the contrary these guy are just in good talking terms or hatred like protrayed by the PHDs
