UNZA management drops 25 percent tuition increment

Share

University of Zambia students Union (UNZASU) has commended University of Zambia (UNZA) management for rescinding its decision to effect the 25 percent increment across board on tuition fees.

UNZASU Information and Publicity Secretary Mutinta Lunda said in a press statement that students would continue to pay the same amount they paid in their first year until they graduate.

Ms Lunda thanked UNZA Management for creating unit with the students to ensure that peace and stability continued at the institution.

“This is a positive step towards better UNZA. UNZASU is pleased with Management for bringing stakeholders to the table to better the lives of students,” Ms Lunda said.

She said the difficulties that the institution was facing require the concerted effort of all stakeholders to restore UNZA to its rightful place in offering better education, research, and public service.

  3. We used to fight these battles too!! Congrats you guys for winning! But one thing is clear here; UNZA’s is poorly funded and as such the institution lacks enough resources to be able to meet its budgetary requirements for improving the teaching and learning facilities for students especially with merger resources trickling from govt. While hiking fees is undesirable students, rejection of such an initiative is also like shooting UNZA on the foot. Believe me very soon, it will be lecturers going on strike due to poor salaries as you guys will be loafing around campus. while such an increment is bad for you, it can also help to reduce UNZA’s budgetary deficit. As Zambians, we should all learn to sacrifice in order to make our institution a better learning place.

  4. Ba mwinemushi, in Zambia the problem is not money as such but Govt’s wrong priotization.Remember there was money for members of parliaments but no money for UTH doctors and UNZA lecturers.Money is there for Kunda to be flown to SA for just a medical check-up {only to be checked by a Ridgeway Doc in diaspora} but no money for equipment at UTH.We have precious minerals in Kitwe but in the wrong hands. We can not even feel ashamed to learn from one of our neighbouring countries. It has one of the best management system on natural resourses. Our currency is 700 times lower in value. What a shame!

  5. Great news!! Ba Lusaka Times Mutinta Lunda is not a female, he is males please get educated people to do your interviews, or editing..bu kala uyu
