FJT calls for unity in Luapula

Share

Dr Chiluba

FORMER President, Dr Frederick Chiluba, has urged the people of Luapula Province to unite and speak with one voice if they are to overcome the numerous challenges they face.

And Dr Chiluba was yesterday given a thunderous welcome at Mansa Hotel, the venue for an inaugural provincial consultative forum for members of parliament and traditional leaders of the Province.

The former President received a similar rousing welcome on Friday night when he arrived in Mansa from Lusaka.

Dr Chiluba said unity and co-operation are the only ways in which the province will find solutions to difficulties.

[pullquote]“Why should people question my coming here to Luapula Province where I come from? Without Luapula there could have been no Chiluba. Surely can’t I even visit my home province,” Dr Chiluba asked.[/pullquote]

Officially opening the consultative forum, Dr Chiluba said: “This is a big meeting and it will help in bringing development to this province, and development can only come through such gatherings.”

He said the meeting will help to establish the needs for the province and these will be presented to government. Dr Chiluba wondered why some opposition politicians criticised his invitation to the meeting.

“Why should people question my coming here to Luapula Province where I come from? Without Luapula there could have been no Chiluba. Surely can’t I even visit my home province,” Dr Chiluba asked.

He said his visit to the province has sent shivers in the opposition rank and file but he assured that he was not in Luapula to campaign but to thank the chiefs and MPs for the support he received when he was being prosecuted for seven years.

He revealed that PF president Michael Sata asked him to campaign for him in the 2006 Presidential election and in the event that the PF won, he would drop the court cases.

Dr Chiluba said he turned down the offer and asked Mr Sata to allow the court process to take its course.

“So why should Sata today say that my cases should continue when he came to me and promised to end the cases if I supported him? This shows that he does not understand the governance system of the country,” Dr Chiluba said.

He urged the people of Luapula Province to support President Banda in the forthcoming 2011 elections because he was a working President.

“I have not come here to campaign but to thank the MPs and chiefs that supported me during the seven years I was in court for offences I did not commit, so the opposition should not panic.” Dr Chiluba said.
He also wondered why some people in the province are supporting a person who has failed to become head of state on three attempts.

Dr Chiluba arrived in Mansa on Friday night to a thunderous welcome by hundreds of residents. Police had a tough time in controlling the ecstatic crowd.
Meanwhile, traditional leaders have commended MPs in the province for organising the consultative forum.

Luapula Province Chiefs committee chairman, Chief Chisunka, said the traditional leaders in the province are happy that what was proposed last year in October has come to fruition.

“We want to commend our MPs for this initiative which will bring development to the province. Such meetings should continue instead of chiefs and MPs working in isolation,” Chief Chisunka said.

He wondered why some opposition party leaders were opposed to such a consultative forum.

Chief Chisunka said such meetings should be held frequently for the benefit of the people.

Speaking earlier, organising committee chairman Mwansa Mbulakulima said the criticism by some opposition politicians will not discourage the MPs and traditional leaders in the province from discussing development issues.

“We shall not relent because this is what we discussed when we met after the Chabuka ceremony. We are glad that this meeting has been held. This is good for the development of Luapula Province,” Mr Mbulakulima said.

PF Kawambwa Central Member of Parliament Elizabeth Chitika-Molobeka said the meeting will help enhance development.

Among chiefs that attended the forum were the Mwata Kazembe, Kashiba, Puta, Kasoma Lwela, Kayembo, Munkanta and all the sub chiefs from the province.

Other MPs in attendance included Mr Besa Chimbaka (Bahati), Mr Ernest Mwansa (Chifunabuli), Dr Kalombo Mwansa (nominated), Dr Peter Machungwa (Luapula), Mr Joseph Kasongo (Bangweulu), Dr Bernard Chishya (Pambashe), Mr Chrispine Musosha (Mansa Central), Mr Ben Mwila (Nchelenge), Dr Katele Kalumba (Chiengi) and Mr John Chinyanta (Mambilima).

  1. Love or hate it, wapya munzi Sata and his PF trolls are in deep trouble while the PACT has degenarated into a political shell of hopelessness and doom faster than anticipated.

PF strategy of sending 200 cadres to go burn Mansa and kill Chiluba on the Luapula soil has backfired as Chiluba takes a thunderous reception from his own people. On the other hand, the head of State His excellency President Banda is enjoying a wave of consensus meetings with Chiefs, the grassroot and voters around the country.

  2. there you go again iwe silly patriot!!! dat thunderous welcome was frm those holigans MMD ferried to mansa, so dont cheat us wit your insufficient data……..i wonder evn how u commented 1st!!!:d/:-w

  3. #2.village dog Mangani says:
politics is a game of numbers regardless of where you get them from. probably they out numbered the PF caders from CB who went there to disturb the gathering. in an case those Pf MPs in attandance are enough to cause headache to sata

  4. no matter how much ths thief chiluba will campaign for bwezani, the people of zambia will vote for the PACT come 2011.

  5. If we can not have Sata-HH then guys let us have someone else- Even Red Card – bwalya maybe would do better- what do you think guys?

  6. # 8 Musukuma
That is the sad indicment of UNDP/PF thinking. Some are hellbent on changing a performing GRZ that they will even vote in a chimpanze if they had a chance becuse their kinsman will not win. Western style democracy is indeed a danger to some of you, with the village headman concept a better option for this kaponya mentality. As for PF/UNDP being in the opposition means oppose very thing GRZ does, dont do any work to show and encourage the elctorate to vote for you, just opposse, insult and support any one preaching violence and hate. With the Zambian electorate shown proof of thier unashamed audacious dereliction to their stated aims of developing zambia, like their councils not delivering services to the pipo, which serious Zambian will vote for them.

  7. KC–Number 9,
I think you did not get my point, we really need change, so i was saying if we can not have Sata -HH then let us go for some one else and not MMD.I will for sure Vote and nt for MMD -KC.
So, if i wrongly wrote it, then KC, am sorry but i really need change.
    Thanks

  8. MUSUKUMA you are right, its a shame that people dont understand what you are trying to say.You dont have to explain yourself to KC.I think if one can’t see that Zambia really is lagging behind and we need change then i feel sorry for Zambia.

  9. LT what do you mean wen you thunderous welcome? Had it being fear of Sata, so there could be no so called consultative development meeting. FTJ is not interested to developed Luapula. His interest is to campaign for MMD. His speach never mentioned any development to be done, all what he said is about supporting MMD and his prosecution and not persecution. We knew all this. His was right.
My humble advise to PF Mr Besa Chimbaka (Bahati), Mr Ernest Mwansa (Chifunabuli), Dr Peter Machungwa (Luapula), Mr Joseph Kasongo (Bangweulu), Dr Bernard Chishya (Pambashe), and Mr John Chinyanta (Mambilima). to quiet PF and stand for MMD ticket so that we show PATRIOT that MMD is strong in LIVEPOOL

  10. # Musukuma
Thank you for a very civil response, i too am sorry of i missread your post. I feel your need for change, but it seems like the only alternative is Sata/HH. I myself prefere RB to that combination, atleast better the devil you know. Aslo the biggest decider for me is the oppossion have done nothing to showcase their work ethics, nothing at all. One would think being in oppossion the main aim is to impress the elctorate in Areas they hold. The pact have nothing to show case their ability to build Zambia only insults and total opposition to GRZ

  11. #11, there was no thunderous wellcome for chiluba in luapula. Hence you cant see the pictures. The only people that attended are the over 2500 cardres sent by william banda from Lusaka and not Manasa residents. Note, I used small letters to write william banda becouse this old man is yet to grow up. chiluba and him are young boys. my advise to RB is that let him not cry foul when FTJ goes for Thandiwe. Malibu yakuilombela aya bamfum.

  12. Chiluba is such a hypocrite ,ha ?????
God will deal with you.You inflicted so much pain and suffering on the lives many people in Luapula when you closed Kawambwa Tea,Mansa batteries,Banana scheme..etc…why now should people support this dead MMD.
You are not doing this for any other reason but your political survival.Shame on you little man.

  13. Bane love it or hate it luapula will be a decider province for 2011. MMD support is intact in Southern province, Western, Central, Eastern, North Western, then combine votes for CB, LSK , Nothern and now Luapula Ha ha!!! please find another political party to add to the pact maybe should try a pact of $ parties against the blues
    Wapya Munzi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Mwata Miss u big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I can’t even read the whole story, listen, poverty stricken country can be laid and manipulated by any selfish theologian. This Kachiluba well known trick star is back talking rubbish and the poor again are the victim by his tongue. Listening to KaChiluba is like going back to our vomits.

  15. Kizo is back,God help us,thats the problem with Zambians, they are dull, this guy never took any meaningful development to luapula and today he is s hero, industries were closed instead. After elections and if Mwadya Mweka Daddy managers to win(oh i mean rig the elections) kizo and his twin bwezani will never step a foot in the finished province.Kizo was president for 10 years and never did anything and now that he is out, surely dull luapula people what will he do for you.Ma lemon(peter Machungwa has been an Mp for close to 20 years now, what has he done for luapula). You will have yourselfs to blame.

  16. What do you expect from LT, LT is just like daily mail, times of Zambia and ZNBC. They are anti UPND/PF pact.

  17. I think we need people who are focused on developing our mother land as we shouldn’t base our voting on tribes. If you are to look at FTJ, what did he do for Zed when he was in power? Today he stands up thinking that he can brian wash us, nop. His term has already passed and his followers have also failed to improve the lifes of the Zedian. I think in this coming general elections we are suppose to vote for leaders who will make a change in Zambian democray. Dedicate their lifes to the development of our beloved land.

  18. I have to question the sanity of people who turn up to listen to chiluba talk about what needs to be done to bring development to their province. That’s all have to say.

  19. ichalo tachikwete ama leaders and we re in trouble. I have little hope for the so called opposition. I mean, it would ve been nice to see the opposition providing constructive opposition in all what the ruling party has been doing. 2011 tripartite elections will be a mere repetition of what happened when we removed KK in 1991 if we re not careful. Zambians except most parts of the Eastern Province, voted for whoever was in support of change and little did we realize we were ushering plunderers in public offices and today we re paying the price for our mistake.

  20. Not sure if a sane person would be celebrating whatever a thief says unless that person is a thief himself, or benefits from stolen monies. Chiluba wants to save his skin and feels conforted RB will do that for him, he’s only got a year to go and he’s gone for good.

  21. In life it always pays to be uplight and truth. If Chiluba was not a thief he will not be going through all this embarasements trying to save his skin. As a former President he should have been living a quite Life just like KK is. He knows he is living on bollowed time which unfortunately is not for long. You’re going and ending up in the Gallows come 2011, this fact even himself knows.

  22. Kafupi won’t save his skin for so long!! The midget is a spent force and come 2011 he will be a sorry sight. Shame on the minute thief!!!!!

  23. WHO PAID FOR CHILUBA”S EXPENSES?
    MMD OR THE TAXPAYERS.
HAVE YOUR SAY AND TELL MMD TO STOP THE ROT NOW.

  24. IN A SANE COUNTRY WITH SANE CITIZENS,A BULLET WOULD OF PASSED THROUGH THESE LOSERS HEADS BY NOW.

    WHATS HOLDING YOU UP ZAMBIA?

  25. DOES ZAMBIA HAVE A TAX FILE SYSTEM.
CAN IT BE CHECKED HOW MUCH TAX THE MONKEY PAID ON $8 EARNINGS?

BEFORE OR AFTER THE COURT CASE.

  26. $8US MILLION.

    $1.6 US MILLION IN TAXES.
THERE HAS TO BE A RECEIPT SOMEWHERE.
Can a whistleblower show the details?

ZAMBIANS DONT STOP FIGHTING FOR YOUR SHARE OF TAXPAYERS MONEY TO BE SPEND WHERE IT SHOULD.

  27. if chiluba declared his $8 US million as income earned(a legit income) then there will be tax paid on his tax return for a year sometime since 2001.

If there is no record of tax paid on his income then this is the evidence of guilt.

  28. am shocked that pipo to Luapula can be so bad memoried, Chiluba told former Mansa Batteries workers in 2006, he said he had nothing to do with the closure of the plant. now today those same pipo are giving him thanderous welcom? :o:o:o:o bufi. :o:o:o:obufi , its a lie, boza

  29. “The former President received a similar rousing welcome on Friday night when he arrived in Mansa from Lusaka.”
    mmmm.
Didn’t I read somewhere that one, William Banda had sent 2,500 MMD cadres from Lusaka to Luapula? Could these have been the ‘rousing welcoming’ party?

  30. Chiluba even though he says he born again I doubt his Christianity. ow can he say that people should pray that Sata shouldn’t becoming a President of Zambia. Who is he by the way? Only God knows. What type of Born again Who steal money and someone’s wife? Chiluba should repeat. Ubwipi, your time is gone God is going to raise another President to Lead Zambia not Rupiah. We are praying for the Change and for sure God has answered our prayers.

  31. It is very very uncalled for to have a former president become so partisan at the expense of development.
This Chiluba is a great liar-He can not talk about development he completely failed to bring then he says Luapula is behind his ways-Bufi ubo-We have never been behind him-I come from the same village with him(Musangu village) and have spent time in luapula of late than him–What can he tell us that we will believe that he never managed in the ten years he stole from us.
What have you done to Mansa batteries,LCU,LIMA BANK-people are suffering Ba Chiluba
We were told he was going for developmental talks but this shameless man goes to campaign for the fellow failure RB ( Birds of the same feathers)
Chiluba keep quite-You disgrace Luapula all the time…….Remember I am non partisan

  32. I have noted a lot guys here saying William Banda sent so many cadres from Lusaka. Does this mean its true that MMD has now made serious in-roads in Lusaka which used to be a PF stronghold? How come all claims of MMD cadres being ferried to some place means that they are from Lusaka. Then MMD must be thankful to the work of William Banda for doing so much as to even make Lusaka Province a “nursery” of MMD cadres.
What about Kambwile, did he also manage to send PF cadres from the CB as he announced?

  33. Fellow diasporees please do not believe everything you read in the newspaper. Sad as this maybe the MMD is using Chiluba as a consultant, now tell me which normal humanbeing woulf spend money on a consultnat whose strategies have failed before. 2000/2001, parade chiefs and clergymen to support the third term bid, same strategy 10 years later, we shall see where the consultant will lead them.

  34. Bwezeni says to MonkeyBoy “if i let you have freedom you must give up $5 US million to R.B and Sons.”
“You can keep the other $3 US Million if you take the deal.”

MonkeyBoy says to Bwezeni that 5 Million is highway robbery.
Bwezeni says “do you want me to appeal your court case?”

Monkey boy slowly thinks about freedom for a while and says.
“thankyou Bwezeni i will speak good of you in future.”

Under his breathe he mumbles..MMD ripoffs.

  35. Fellow Zamians, Kafupi is once more bragging that the opposition is scared because he is a master dribbler and all we do is to praise him. Shame on us!! Chiluba close, the Kawambwa Banana Estate, Kawambwa Tea, Mansa Batteries, invited Katumbi with his Ntamba Bashila to go and over-fish the lake Mweru – today there is no fish left in that lake. The Tuta road he used to go to Luapula was left by the great KK and today because Kafupi has never maintained it, that road is near impassable. He reused to consruct a bridge over Luapula river, thanks to Mwanawasa. In genera Luapula is poorer than KK left it. What can Kafupi tell the people of Luapula? Dont be cheated with rented crowds, courtesy of brown evelops – George Kunda in THE POST. Those are last kicks of a dying horse and they know it.

  36. FTJ
Opposition and Pipo of zambia are scared of you its true, cos of your dealings you miss up everything. You sold house which you never built at K10,000. You closed virtal Companies and children became destitute. I feel very bad when I read senior citizen, kc and other MMD caders supporting you dealing.
Finally my Family and I we will no longer vote for MMD. 2008 was a mistake

  37. you shameless *****, when on two attempts u and VJ rigged the elections watch and see come 2011 u will be living in Kalingalinga together with your criminal wife Ragina

  38. even Post have published the story and its exactly as LT has put it. Their only response as usual is to talk about FTJ being a lazo. they have failed to make propanganda out of this trip as it was a big success for FTJ and MMD. next will be northern then southern and finally the urban areas of cb/lsk/eastern
