Arrest organisers of Bob Marley memorial – NRP

Share

On saturday May 15th 2010, Zambia’s Rastafarians held a Bob Marley memorial concert in Lusaka. It was at this event that most young people were seen smoking marijuana in public.

This has prompted opposition New Revolution Party (NRP) to call on the Drug Enforcement Commission to arrest the facilitators of the memorial concert, for allowing the vice.

NRP president Cosmo Mumba claims that due to the publicity that the event received, some young people were misled into believing that smoking marijuana has been legalized in Zambia.

Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician who died on May 11, 1981. He has remained an international Reggae icon and is credited for spreading Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.

  1. Cosmos Mumba should by now know that the Bob Marley Memorial Concert has turned into Marijuana Smoking Concert.Without Marijuana the concert will be a sure flop and this is a fact which even DEC can not refute.

  2. Ba Mumba, arrest the people that trade in this vice…the bloody traders are the ones that are aiding our youth (and adults actually) in consuming this drug…so many ‘young’ Zedians are in jail today for ‘one ball’…certainly not fair, why arrest an addict-he or she has a problem..and jail wont cut it.rather sort out the supply..send them to 50yrs in jail, you will see serious results in tradin
However, empirical research for years has placed Dobo lower on so called social drugs in respect to danger…social evils that go hand in hand with dobo cannot be compared with those of drugs like cocaine or even ‘simple’ beer…the Danes, Dutch, South Africans and Portuguese have understood this. The motivation level lost due to ‘consumption’ of dobo is what science has seen as the…

You are a good comedian, I wonder if that really happened to you. Anyway you have made my day.

Bob should to smoke and that is what youth are trying to do to be like him. I don’t see anything wrong with that. # 3 I agree with u those that are trading are the ones to be arrested not users.

  6. In Chibolya Dobo is sold as if its sweets that they are selling, they dont even hide and BA DEC Know about this, its a no go zone for them.

  7. but the drugs should first be stopped in the compounds then we will se that ba DEC are working not just balbing and aressting people with just 1 ball
#4 wansekesha no bufi bobe please where can such a thing happen awe mwandi ninshi ba head teacher bali ba boyo mwe=))=))=))=))=))=))=))

  8. Truth is that marijuana is a psychotropic substance which often has negative effects on the user’s mental health. But to urge the arrest of the organizers of the concert………uhmm! I call that as Cosmo’s superficial solution to a deep seated problem.

  12. In the 1970s if you did not smoke marijuana then you were not ranked. Most of these guys who grew up in towns smoked daga ;including some ministers. It was a mark of being a townee. And I never saw anyone get mentally ill. So ‘boma’,legalise it. and we will advertise it.It cures diseases and some in grz will agree with me.

  14. #19 – walai you are back. Missed your rantings, mune! welcome back – ama double deuces ayo :)>-:)>-

  15. Shani bane!

The Marley Memorial is a great event to celebrate. I still remember the first time we celebrated it with elderly Rasta brethrens at Munda Wanga Gardens way back then in the 80s it when I was still at school. These elders took such good care of the youth that time that nobody ever worried about youths attending the event.

Basically, Mary Jane had never been a problem at all and even now, I think people should stop throwing the blame on it. If it is used wisely, it is more beneficial to man than many artificial substances. For those who don’t want to smoke, try eating the seeds, drinking the juice or just give thanks and enjoy looking at this wonderful plant.<:-p

  16. Oh, I almost forgot to welcome back walai. Naine naseka sana to hear how you kwapulad ba Principal… :))

    Enjoy the blogging :)>-

  17. one former minister once accused one of our fomer president of smoking the herb, now i am wondering why DEC did not investigate the matter.

    ooooh double stds

  18. This evil dwarf Cosmo Mumba- unwitting agent of the Babylonian empire has very little understanding of I’s holy sacrament- the herb. This little vampire has been indoctrinated by the Babylonian System, who are the real drug traffickers under the guise of “pharmaceutical” companies. That which comes from the earth was made by Jah, and I n I know if not abused it is good for I. Fact-Wise King Solomon’s grave had a garden of herb on it. And I, fully of Solomonic lineage know that Herb is used both for medication and even more important meditation and emancipation of I mind to see better the tricks of the evil system. Babylon knows its end is near. Jah see and know. Rastaman live up I say!

  19. Since when do people in the Zed get arrested for smoking trees on Bob Marley day? That’s the one day in the year the cops are not supposed to bother you for smoking weed at a Bob Marley tribute concert. There’s more serious things going on in the country than to worry about something that grows on it’s own naturally, and is cheaper to buy than balan.

  20. According to statistics, many people die from alcohol poisoning than smoking maryjane. More violence against women and children under influence of alcohol than maryjane yet alcohol is legal and maryjane is not. Could it be that maryjane has a more positive impact on higher consciousness than alcohol? Many people focus on anecdotal evidence of the negative effects of maryjane. The so called scientific studies were conducted by making a monkey inhale maryjane smoke equivalent to 60 joints over 4 hours and we have the basis of maryjane is bad for you… just have some Jack Daniels instead or better enough stella artois and go beat up your girlfriend or wife afterwards.

  21. ganja, kaya, spliff, binzo, weed, bud, grass, skank, herb, medicine, pot, cannabis, blaze, dop, stoner, hemp, hashish, joint, bong, marijuana, kiff, holy smoke, mellow ichamba, dagga, dobo… :d**==@-)=));;)>:d<

  22. Ban beer drinking. It causes much more deaths and misery than ganja. Ganja is the healing of the nation. I wonder what kind of country we are headed to if some adults want to dictate what other adults should do or not do. Ban g.a.y.s, ban this and that. Remember when Gen Miyanda banned Channel “O”? This is how tyranny starts. What a nanny state we are becoming.

  23. This is for pseudo-Rastas. A variety of weeds that grew on Solomon’s grave was included ganja weed. The others, though, did not have hallucinogens in them. This phenomenon was as natural in that ecosphere as would be anywhere else in the world including Zambia. Point is, the growth in and of itself does not make Solomon’s grave any special. Besides, cannabis sativa is not endemic in the Jerusalem.

Second point you miss, you did not originate from the middle east. There is a mountain of evidence assembled by different researchers, pointing to Southern Africa as the first home of man. Read, children, read.

    UBUTUTU MULEKE!

  24. WE HAD A NICE TIME AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS BOB MARLEY CLUB WERE THE WAILERS JAMMED ALL NITEUNTIL 2. I HOPE THEY COME OVER THERE AT MUNDA WANGA NEXT YEAR SO THAT MORE WEED CAN BURN IN HONOUR OF THE PROPHET ROBERT NESTA MARLEY

  25. I hope no one votes for NRP especially their president Cosmo Mumba. No where in the article does it mention the crowd getting violent or anything like that. We are in trouble if political parties start playing the role of ‘Robocop’. This type of ‘know it all’ before their behind get into power is what leads what we saw in north western province polls violence.

  26. This one is hard to argue with intellectually… Its easier to just curse the M.F…. NRP equals New Retarded Party

  27. Marijuana is like oxygen to the human body. America criminalised it, now that the world economy is going down and we have wiped out our indigenous trees, they have come back to legalise. Soon as their industry is in position to lead the world and make money off everyone, they will lead the legalisation of the commodity.

Your poor African colonial mentality might find this hard to stomach.
