Ditch PF, UPND told

UPND women brandishing their party symbol

NAMWALA Member of Parliament (MP) Major Robbie Chizyuka says the United Party for National Development (UPND) should support President Rupiah Banda for the 2011 Presidential elections and not Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata whose support base is weakening.

And the newly launched Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) has said the Pact is fast losing ground because both Mr Sata and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema are separately campaigning for the presidency.

Major Chizyuka said it was clear that the Patriotic Front (PF) was losing support in Luapula Province.

The Namwala MP said for now the UPND should support President Banda so that in 2016 Southern, Western, Central, and North-Western provinces could support a UPND presidential candidate.

He said the UPND should also find another leader other than Mr Hichilema to contest the 2016 elections.

“In 2016 Southern, Western, Central and North-Western provinces should field one presidential candidate,” he said.

He said, however, with the recently launched ADD it is doubtful that the UPND would still remain strong in Western Province.

“Mr Sata has more sophisticated negotiating skills. Mr Hichilema has given away one province to the PF. In the last by -election in Milanzi, Hichilema gave away Eastern Province to the PF despite the UPND being stronger going by the election results of 2006,” he said.

He said the resolutions of the Luapula Province meeting had vindicated him because he did not agree that the PF leader should be president of the Pact or Zambia.

He said Mr Hichilema had now lost elections three times and that it was time for the opposition party to find another leader.

“Even going by the results of the just ended elections in Mufumbwe, the UPND can’t claim to be dominant in North-Western Province. When you look at the results the difference is only about 300 votes,” he said.

“The politics of UPND should be about supporting Rupiah Banda in 2011 other than support Sata,” he said.

ADD president Charles Milupi said that the supporters of the Pact were waiting for the announcement of the presidential candidate and predicted there would be a split after the announcement.

Mr Milupi said in an interview that Mr Sata would be rejected in Southern Province while Mr Hichilema would be rejected on the Copperbelt, Luapula and Northern provinces if adopted.

Mr Milupi, who resigned his seat as Luena Independent MP last week to propel his candidacy in the presidential election next year, said the pact would not be a factor and projected a collapse going by what the people have said in the countryside.

He said the strength of the UPND had been going down since the death of late president Anderson Mazoka and the party has since surrendered its popularity in Lusaka, Central, Western and North-Western provinces to the ruling party and the PF.

Mr Milupi said ADD was invited by the Pact but he demanded that the policies should be harmonised which they objected to and therefore decided to launch to avoid falling in a similar trap.

Mr Milupi wondered where the Pact would get votes in Luena constituency when it got 250 votes in the whole constituency in 2006 where the MMD got 4000 and he got 6,500 votes.

“So what exactly has changed? People should go to Southern Province and even Western Province if they want to know the feelings of the people,” Mr Milupi said.

  1. Prophets of doom at it. Milupi and Chizhyuka are MMD. Let chizhyuka relinguish his position in UPND and let us go for a by election, son of a d.e.v.i.l

  2. Chiefs trash political ‘snakes’

CHIEFS in Luapula Province say they will not tolerate political leaders who plan to concession land to foreign investors for campaign funds or once elected in office.PF leader Micheal Sata for the 2006 elections was caught with undeclared SA R 27,000 at oliver Tambo Airport he got from some apartheid South Africans in a deal for land in Luapula.

  3. Spokesperson of the traditional leaders, Chief Chisunka said they are aware of manoeuvres by some politicians who want to concession land once voted into office.

Chief Chisunka said in an interview yesterday that it is important for any political leader to consult chiefs when dealing with land issues.

“It is morally wrong and criminal to sell land at the expense of the people just to have more money as a politician…we have agreed as chiefs not to tolerate such politicians,” he said.

  4. Chief Chisunka said chiefs in Luapula Province tabled the matter and were informed that a large piece of land would be concessioned if a named politician wins the elections.

He said it is wrong for political leaders to give false promises to foreign investors when soliciting funds for their campaigns.

“As chiefs, we can only advise politicians to launch issue-based campaigns and not make promises that can put the security of the country at risk,” Chief Chisunka said.

  5. Recently, Patriotic Front (PF) member of Parliament Peter Machungwa said the people of Luapula Province risk being turned into refugees if PF president Michael Sata is allowed to rule the country.

Dr Machungwa said it will be difficult for the people of Luapula Province to entrust the country’s leadership in Mr Sata because he had allegedly wanted to sell a big chunk of land to foreigners.

“If a person who is aspiring to be a president can think of selling land with people on it, what more if he is given the powers to govern? People can be turned into refugees in their own country,” he said.

  6. He said MPs in Luapula will ensure that they campaign against Mr Sata in the 2011 elections.

“Our stance to campaign against our party leader Mr Sata for allegedly trying to secretly concession land in the province still stands,” Dr Machungwa said.
He said Mr Sata’s secret deals can put the security of the country at risk.

Dr Machungwa said MPs in Luapula Province will campaign against Mr Sata as an individual.

  7. Recently, former PF general secretary Edward Mumbi alleged that the US$27,000 that Mr Sata received from an unknown source was meant for land which he allegedly promised to give to a team of foreign business people had he won the 2006 elections.

  8. Why can’t you just move to MMD you failed major? Who supports you in UPND anyway? Support MMD? That is the dullest thing i’ve heard this year! And on chiefs, they dont vote on behalf of their subjects. Someone should have told them its one man one vote so the whatever number of chiefs only accounts for the same number in votes!!

  9. Robbie the clown is at it again. This guy never seems to stop annoying people. Let him support whosoever he wants and leave the Pact alone. Has he got the acumen to debate real issues in Parliament? If he thinks UPND is losing ground, let him resign and recontest that seat against UPND. Dull chap

  10. I have just googled Charles Milupi’s profile. Its not child’s play.Vast experience and very practical, better than sitting on boards and punching calculators. That explains why the Pact is agitated. Its a fact,Western Province is gone. With his money,he will in no time establish himself as an HH of the South,Sata of the North and RB of the East thereby dashing the hopes that UPND might perform the miracles of 2001 under AK Mazoka.HH has found his right match in terms of education and age and the influence of UPND will certainly diminish cos going by the previous elections in Luena,it wasbetwwen MMD and Milupi.Pact mulimbe!!!.Iam happy that more right options are coming to me as a swing voter. Now I have two with Chipimo Jr.Sell yourselves boys!! For its either the right people or MMD stays.

  11. When will this circus end?…..I bet even kindergartners can run this country far better than the current crop of dunderhead leaders running the show! 😮

  12. A major without morals-Honestly speaking how do you make such useless analysis-What has Rupiah done for this nation to be proud of..Major we are not children to be cheated—If it is Banda and MMD forget-ZAMBIANS wake up-ZAMBIA is for us all not only selfish individuals like Chizyuka–He eats from the high table—ZAMBIA has not gone to the dogs–if we can only wake up..
Remember I am non partisan but just facing reality–We should red card Mr Banda-we dont hate him but his bad ways–He is just like FJT

  13. why is the pact such a big story? am asuming because its a BIG pact!
bad chizyuka, tata mwabwela pofye, your analysis is childish and useless!
    only an I D I O T can listen to you.
why cant you join the so called mmd, if its so impotant to you?
    i rest my case.

  14. Is it now illegal to expel MPs from political parties. This chestnut am sure has somewhere is leaning his backside as he fires at his party.

  15. It’s a pity that we have the likes of Milupi and the so called Major Chizyuka in our country, i was one of the yuoung people that were being inspired by Milupi but i have now turned around after the MMD bought him, if Milupi thinks he can change the direction of the wind of change in western province then he is realy mistaken ( bashemi muipumile), as a person who hails from Western province i bet that Milupi cant even make it at Mongu central consitituence level, he doesnt command attention. VIVA PF-UPND pact

  16. Once Bob Marley sung: ‘The lips of the righteous teach many, but fools die for want of wisdom. The rich man’s wealth is in his city, the righteous wealth is in his holy place…….’ Yah! simply put Marley is saying the writings are on the wall for every one to see.Notwithstanding,*****s will not see anything. All PF mps in Luapula and some in Lusaka are anti Hakasata. And these will for certain decompaign the pact. And chiefs of Luapula have said it all.In Lusaka William is busy building up the MMD.Malanji and Mbulakulima on the Copperbelt are busy doing it.Meanwhile Hakasata’s pockets are running dry……..fools indeed cannot see.

  17. WHO IS THIS M.O.R.O.N REPRESENTING??? MILUPI & CHIZYUKA ARE ALL MMD CADRES. WHY DO THESE REPORTERS WASTE TIME INTERVIEWING THESE WORTHLESS JOKERS?? CHIZYKA IS NO LONGER AN MP NOR UPND MEMBER SO WHO IS HE REPRESENTING??? IF HE THINKS MMD IS POPULAR WHY CANT HE RESIGN FROM UPND N AS AN MP SO THAT HE CAN RECONTEST THE SEAT ON MMD TICKET?? USELESS CHAP..

  18. You know, some Zambian politician can be so f.o.o.l.i.s.h and naive. We all know you are campaigning but what you are saying, even a 9 year old knows how obviously s.t.u.p.i.d it is. So please tell us something more convincing and economically logical [-(

  19. You can fool some pipo some times but you cant fool all the pipo all the time. The Hon citizenry can now see the pact for what they are, war mongers. They have no idea of how they will develop zambia as all their time was waisted insulting GRZ. They are underperforming in all areas they hold. They support violent revolutions as in the red card to try to deflect attention away from the fact that they have nothing to offer, nothing to showcase their hard work, only insults and boasts of how expensive ones car is. The Pact MPs were supposed to be at the forefront of development to convince us, but to be fair to them they did not have the time, as trading insults, accusations and inuendos with GRZ took up most of their time. One can understand. Sympathy for the Pact.

  20. The analysis of Chizyuka and Milupi are a =))=))=))=))=))=))=)). UPND is regaining its strength as evidenced by the recent elections. The Partyhas grabbed sits from MMD yet MMD has failed to grab UPND sits since 2008.So what nonsense is Milupi & Chizyuka talking about?:-@:-@

  21. Chizyuka is such a disappointment, we have agreed that if HH is not pact president then we can go it on our own, or alternatively we could form an alliance with MMD on condition that HH is vice president. So what is he now talking about. HH is our choice candidate, you should not air our party plans in public like this, this is why you were expelled from our party.

  22. I feel pity for this useless Major called Chizyuka!Shame on Him.He is such an I.D.I.O.T.

  23. CHIEFS in Luapula Province ve protested against former president Frederick Chiluba’s ‘developmental’ meeting and the endorsement of President Rupiah Banda.

“You know, when some people read what the state newspapers are saying and what was said on television, they might think we are in support of what Chiluba is doing. But I can confirm that if there are chiefs that were happy with whatever was going on in that meeting, it’s just about four,” the source said. “Otherwise, the rest we were not happy and we felt used and treated like children. We were so upset that they could get us from our palaces and parade us like animals. No one should cheat you. Even the chairperson of the Luapula Royal Foundation, chief Chisunka, was told about our complaints over that meeting.

  24. “Chiefs rejected the proposals that we include the demand that ba Sata apologises over his differences with Chitimukulu. The general feeling was that there was no need for ba Sata to apologise.

In fact, I remember one chief even arguing that ’why should ba Sata apologise here when we were not even there when they differed with Chitimukulu.’ It was actually chief Puta who was pushing that ba Sata apologises. But the other chiefs strongly felt that it was unnecessary to even consider that as part of the resolutions.”

The sources disclosed that there was a protest over the statement that the opposition should be sidelined.

“When ba Chisunka said whatever he said, he received protest notes. You ask him if nobody sent him a note over that issue.

  25. There was a protest because that was not what we agreed on. No one should stop ba Sata from coming to Luapula because whether opposition or MMD bonse bana, they are all our children. So as chiefs we have to embrace them,” the source said.

“On Chiluba, they just wasted their time because we know what Chiluba did and how he behaved as President for 10 years. We spoke amongst ourselves as chiefs concerning the issue of Chiluba and voting for ba Banda and the PF ‘rebel’ MPs, so no one can cheat us.”
The sources also said that chiefs protested against the K1 million they were each paid.

“Some of us were given K1 million each and the senior chiefs, I am told, were given something higher than that. Even ba Chisunka, we know that he was given about K5 million and other things.

  26. In short, the conveners of that meeting came to lobby for support for ba Banda and the PF rebel MPs. They were really behaving like children in their effort to try and get us to their side. Balewaminikisha filya!” the source revealed. “They were projecting themselves as nice and genuine people but from what we heard amongst our colleagues right there, they didn’t succeed in convincing anyone.

They were promising us the usual stories that they will construct schools, hospitals, roads, build bridges in areas where there are none and also take electricity to palaces that are not connected.

“They even went to an extent of promising us that they will bring animals so that as chiefs we can be in-charge over those animals in our areas.

  27. The desperation was so clear that they really wanted us to support and endorse ba Banda.

And they were even saying that if we don’t want to vote for ba Banda, at least we should vote for someone else because if ba Sata wins he will come and destroy the country, can you imagine? How can Chiluba today stand up and say that about ba Sata? Does he think we are children?”

The sources disclosed that in privacy, a number of chiefs disapproved most issues that were raised.
“I can confirm that there were serious attempts to try and convince us and when I say attempts I mean real attempts to try and paint themselves good to us. But I can assure you that a good number of us were not amused with the whole so-called ‘developmental meeting’,” the source said.

  28. “In fact, even amongst ourselves as chiefs, some were even saying that ‘Ala efyo bacitufunisha kufi pango ififine ukwisa mukumfwa? Even on the money they gave us, we were not happy. Surely can they move us from our palaces just to come and give us K1 million each, what’s a million? We felt disrespected and lowered.”

The sources said nothing substantial came out of the meeting.
“In our private conversations, other chiefs were even saying that ‘Chiluba is saying all these things and trying to be nice pantu naba mulekako kuli Banda Chiluba is trying to be nice because President Banda has freed him. I also noticed that the Mwata never took anything, unless I didn’t observe correctly.

  29. This man Chizyuka thinks leadership is all about dictating. He has so much haterage for sata. Before UPND went into that pact, they did a secret ballot vote and majority voted for the pact. Remember Chizyuka is a soldier and in the military they believe in commands, hence he thinks he can command everyone in upnd to do what he wants. These UPND guys are so principled and democratic, HH does not make decisions alone, whenever there is new strategic move they go to a secret balot vote and if the majority vote yes then it is decided. Those on the loser side should always learn to compromise. Chizyuka is the least educated MP in UPND thats why he is easily cheated.

  30. But I don’t remember seeing him take a drink or even water, he was just observing what was happening and he looked so detached. Even on introductions, while others were giving their full titles him just said, ‘I’m Mwata’ and he sat,” the source said.

“I was surprised to hear some of the speakers talking like that because one of them was even telling us that naine nshalefwaya ukwisako bampatikishefye. Ultimately, the whole meeting was a flop. There was nothing substantial that came out of it. Even those resolutions you heard are just the same things they always talk about so there was nothing new really.

“In fact, that meeting also caused problems because ba Kapaso chief retainers protested since they were not given anything. There was some commotion outside.

  31. They felt left out that whilst us as chiefs we got a ka K1 million, they didn’t get anything. They actually complained to ba Chisunka.

You can ask him if you want. In my opinion, PF should not even worry because we are not children to cheat and even after the meeting, we spoke amongst ourselves so we know where we stand on these issues. Let them just convince the voters and not us because it’s the people who vote in numbers, not us. If they convince the people, then they have the votes.”

And when contacted and asked about the concerns raised by the chiefs over Chiluba’s meeting, chief Chisunka yesterday responded: “I can confirm that a number of chiefs approached me and complained.

  32. But I will give a comprehensive response to that after I have phoned many more other chiefs to get their feelings and observations about the meeting.”

  33. The Meja and Milupi at it again. How on earth can he urge the supporters UPND to support MMD ,is this man normal? He knows he can not be president because of his low education attainment and for Milupi’s observation that UPND popularity is going down ,i wonder why a man of his education can fail to see that UPND is doind well. It has so far grabbed two seats from MMD within short period of time yet it has not lost any of its seat and that is why the Meja can no even resign coz he knows he can not win the seat back under mmd.Milupi is an MMD cadre and is sponsored by it. He has done nothing in his const.and will teach him bitter lesson.we urge the speaker to fix a date soon.

  34. VIVA PACT the fi chi colours dont know what there are saying. Chiefs felt used in Luapula. Mwanya ba MMD and ka kafupi.

  35. I fail to understand our politicians, if I may ask why has Milupi formed his party if his goal is to fight the opposition? I have just realised how selfish people can be, Milupi is supposed to fight for suffering zambians and yet from the time he formed his party all he talks about is UPND/PF pact who at the moment have very little to do to help the suffering masses. The party in govt is MMD which has failed to deliver for the poor Zambians. I had so much respect for Milupi but I was fooled again after being disappointed by people like Depak Patel. Such guys pretend to speak for the poor when their agenda is just to enrich themselves. Shame indeed

  36. @ 2Mwata- That weekend I was at Mambilima my beautiful Village and I was very impressed by the resolutiness of the people. They were all saying why didnt he(KAFUPI) do all what he is promising when he had a chance? Chief Chimese my Grand Father’s relative was barred from that coven held by Chiluba because they feared he would divulge to the public what ever was discussed, so what is t that they did not want us to know? All the same we came to know of some of the items 1) Chiefs Palaces will be worked on 2) Chiefs stipends will be improved in both delivery and quantity 3) Chiefs will get 4 x 4 vehiclea for 2011 campaigns. That is development indeed my arse

  37. The combination of Milupi and his cousin Major is now a curse for opposition. The guys are living in the world of imagination. Sure how does Chizyuka expect UPND to support MMD. I doubt whether the story is true may be Times have just fabricated as part of their propaganda to tarnish the image of the pact. The only good thing is what ever is said in papers rural people do not get the messages. We shall rest until ADD and its president is rejected in Luena. Let us wait and see it is too early to speculate.

  38. To show you that there is confusion amoung these MP’s from the pact, just read Nkombo’s comments below:

    Education strides cheer UPND MP

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament (MP) for Mazabuka Central Gary Nkombo has said Government investment in the education sector will help the country attain economic growth.

He said in an interview that the Government had built a lot of ordinary schools and high schools for both girls and boys hence the need to commend it.

“It is very true to say that schools have been built and high schools have also been built and that is a plus on the part of the Government,” he said.

He however said there was need to ensure that more schools were built in Zambia for the benefit of the country.

  39. He said the increased promotion of education in Zambia would go a long way in improving the economy and reducing the economic hardships most of the Zambians were facing.

“As you may know education is an asset and I urge the Government to do more and go flat out to get every child into a classroom,” Mr Nkombo said.

He warned against compromising the state of the education sector in Zambia and called for the channeling of more funding towards the improvement of education in Zambia.

Mr Nkombo also called for a renewed spirit in fighting poverty in the country.
“As opposition MPs we are here to criticise Government constructively. We are not here to just criticise but we will do so constructively.

  40. In this vein, I urge Government to channel a huge chunk of the Budget towards eradicating poverty in Zambia,” Mr Nkombo said.

He also called for investment in Mazabuka District’s untapped fish industry saying it could go a long way in contributing to the economic development of the country.

Garyy supporting MMD like this, just wait and see how things will dismantle, never count your eggs before they hatch, is my simple advice to pact loyalist. You have been burrying your heads under the sand for far too long, wake up and smell the eminent crack in your so called strong holds.

  43. Chief Chisunka, whatever he is pushing, is an MMD cadre period. If the likes of Patriot, Mwata and the man in Washington with a Degenerated brain believe in him, they will have a shock of their lives.
    2011 ni Zwaaa.

  44. #52 Dont worry about Mr Milupi. He’s there to split (MMD)Movement for Mass Destruction so- called significant votes.Anyway doors are still open for him to join the PACT.

    Complain about this comment

  48. well said #56, thats wat i call men of substance!!!! men who talk not for ze sake of it but who talk reason and for ze sake of zambia

  49. Only a mentally challenged person can produced “The Namwala MP said for now the UPND should support President Banda so that in 2016 Southern, Western, Central, and North-Western provinces could support a UPND presidential candidate… He said the UPND should also find another leader other than Mr Hichilema to contest the 2016 elections” and then hope that his/er terrible uselessness can be accepted by people who know how MMD has destroyed the Zambia former President Kanneth Kaunda left us with.

Surely, how can a normal person think that power can be given away in the stupid manner indicated by Mjor R Chizyuka when this thing of regional support has failed us in the past whe democracy is about COMPETITION and not being given power on silver plate?

    B blest o.

  50. On “And the newly launched Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) has said the Pact is fast losing ground because both Mr Sata and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema are separately campaigning for the presidency” I thought former Honourarble Luena Constituency MP Charles promised that his politics will be develent oriented.

Has Milupi entered into an alliance with former UPND member Major Robby Chizyuka?

Mr C. Milupi and Major R Chizyuka, democracy is about COMPETITION and not being given power on silver plate in a monarch way that has caused Mr President RB Banda get obsessed with remaining as Zambian President forgetting that he ppromised to complete late President LP Mwanawasa’s term only a few months ago. Check how USA and UK do democracy.

  51. Friends Milupi is not a push-over. Those with eyes tinted with tribalism may see Milupi as such. But I can bet you, wait and see. Actions speak louder than words: the guy is Pragmatic rather than theoretic. HH should start scaling down his hopes as long as he does not leave the Pact. By the way I expect Sikota to be jittery now. Should Milupi link up with RB the pact is gone. If Milupi links HH then RB has reasons to get worried. God bless Zambia.
