The Citizen’s Forum has challenged the ruling Movement for Multi party Democracy (MMD) it would be democratically incorrect to force president Rupiah Banda on the MMD members as their representative for the next tripartite election set for 2011.
Forum executive director, Simon Kabanda said that the MMD has a responsibility to ensure that democratic values are advocated for at every level of governance.
He urged MMD to take the leading role in upholding democracy and tolerance in Zambian politics.
Mr. Kabanda noted that ruling MMD currently has no choice but to enhance democracy in the country in oto create sanity in national politics.
He has challenged the MMD national executive committee NEC to give Zambians a chance to elect a person of their own liking rather than to impose President Banda as the party’s sole candidature for the 2011 elections.
Mr Kabanda has also noted that there is need to ensure that the ruling party takes on board observations of those holding divergent views by giving them the space to express themselves.
He has therefore called on the MMD leadership to ensure that the national convention goes on as requested by the party members and that people chose a party representative of their own.

Mr Kabanda should also extend the same message to Sata as he has been imposing himself on PF since inception.Intra-party democracy is a reflection of real democracy.
you are right. This challenge should be extended to all political parties. In fact it should be a law that there should be evidence that all presidential candidates were democratically elected/nominated by their respective parties to stand for president.
In what capacity is Simon Kabanda talking to MMD on democracy when he is a PF cadre who has been unconsciously signing for Sata’s allergy for intraparty democracy? As a Sata sycophant Kabanda like Augustine Mwewa, Frank Bwalya, Given Lubinda, Telesphore Mpundu and Fred Mmembe has embraced and is gormlessly defending the sole candidacy and dictatorship of Sata for over 9 years now. PF has had no convention no institutional dynamism but insults and threats of war against Zambians. Its him Kabanda that assured Sata that he could keep taking ballot rejects for life until a miracle some day manifest..
MMD is the only democratic institution in this country. In its 18 years reign, the country has seen 3 democratically elected Presidents from all different parts of the country. MMD is the only national tent of diversity and tolerance.MMd has structures and representative leadership in all provinces, districts, wards, branches and chiefdoms. MMD is the only party with a national face and identity while PF is 93% a constituent of sata’s clan with all leadership slots stuffed by Sata single handedly. UPND is a tonga only president circus party. To head UPND the prerequisite is to be a tonga. This is why the kicked Bob Sichinga, Patrick Chisanga, Henry Mtonga, Kahaye and Sakwiba Sikota because they are not tongas.This is why MMD is a mass party for all Zambians.

I find Kabanda’s call lacking intelligence and vitality expected of a level seasoned cadre that he is. Untill now i didn’t know that kabanda is this amoral and dull on dialectics to be gormlessly talking in the media without self introspection.

How can someone in their rightful mind think PF/UNPND (PACT)-PEOPLE AGAINST CORRECT THINKING can rule this country. Why is Senior Citizen so touchy? To be fair, all the political parties in the country need to respect their constitutions and go to their respective conventions to democratically elect their candidates. MMD, being the governing party, has the greater responsibility to lead the way.

It’s history repeating itself…KK imposed on UNIP & on the people, ka Chiluba was imposed on MMD, Levy was unchallengeable and equally imposed on MMD, now its the the MMD boot-lickers imposing RB on MMD..and Ba Sata is an imposed leader on PF (untouchable)..I am not sure about HH……
