Don’t involve Catholic Church, Archbishop Mpundu

Share

Archbishop of Lusaka Telesphore Mpundu addressing a press briefing

FORMER Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Edward Mumbi has advised Lusaka Diocese Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu to detach the Roman Catholic Church from his political comments.

He said it was shameful for Archbishop to drag the Catholic Church into politics when he was supposed to be preaching peace and unity.

Mr Mumbi was reacting to Archbishop Mpundu’s comments that the Roman Catholic Church would not be intimidated and that Mr Mumbi and others were ‘sponsored’ people.

He said as a leader of a big church, the clergyman should watch his language because he was supposed to be offering hope to the people, instead of criticising the Government everyday.

Mr Mumbi said Archbishop Mpundu harboured hatred for the Government because he was supposed to be appointed as Home Affairs minister if PF leader Michael Sata won the 2008 elections.

Through his statements, Archbishop Mpundu had shown that he was a PF supporter, especially when he said the former PF secretary general had betrayed Mr Sata.

Mr Mumbi denied ever being a member of the Catholic Church as alleged by Archbishop Mpundu but that he congregates at the United Church of Zambia.

Another former PF secretary general Charles Chimumbwa said the clergyman should come out in the open so that he could be challenged on some issues.

Mr Chimumbwa said Archbishop Mpundu should separate the Church from his personal decisions.

  1. These two hired finished political prostitutes, do they think Archbishop Mpundu could leave his post for minister of home affairs? It shows how these two behave like bush products. The truth is their stiff neck attitude towards the Catholic is not going to benefit the people who have hired them at all. Zambians are mature and can see through political hired lose cannons. The catholic is too big for MMD to start a fight with. Responsible and mature people within the MMD would have controlled this aggression from MMD but they have blessed this continuation of attacking Mpundu. So what may MMD you are finished. Ruphia lack of leadership and the will to reconcil with those he feels are his enemies is a sad chapter and he will be remembered as the worst president in the history of Zambia

  2. #1 you are right. Why does he mix his personal issues with that of the Church. Always hiding in the church. This bishop is bringing shame in the churh just like his sisters have brought shame on the family.
Its seems he will not rest till Zambia has a Government from Northen Province. We are all Zambians No tribe is more superior than the other

  3. The Bishop again. Really what is the Bishop’s problem. Am sure if only he had been this hard on his sisters he wouldnt have to bare the shame of having two bastards from one man servicing his sisters. You are an embarassment to the word of God. Stop involving the church in politics.

  4. #1, 3 AND 4 YOU CHAPS YOU HAVE TO READ BETWEEN THE LINES. THESE TWO CHAPS EDWARD MUMBI AND CHIMUMBWA ARE FINISHED PRODUCTS AND THEY CAN DO ANYTHING TO SURVIVE. BUT I CAN ASSURE THEIR DAYS ARE GONE AND THEY WILL NEVER COME BACK INTO THE SCENE

  5. Stories such as this one i rarely take a glance at them. I suppose they also call themselves leaders, ci Chimumbwa should take a leaf from his friend Kazala by stepping aside for a while, reflect and restrategize otherwise he’ll soon be in the same league as Mumbi, Siulapwa, Cosmas, Chifire and William Banda. Once he enters this league that will be the end of him, no way out.

  6. #1,#3 AND #4,I REALLY DOUBT IF YOU HAVE BRAINS AT ALL. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW,ARCHBISHOP MPUDU IS THE HEAD OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN ZAMBIA JUST LIKE RUPIAH IS THE HEAD OF STATE. ANY ATTACK OF HIS PERSONALITY IS AN ATTACK ON THE CATHOLIC CHURCH BECAUSE HE PRESIDES OVER IT. IN ZAMBIA,WE HAVE POLITICS OF POVERTY,POLITICS OF BENEFITS,AND ITS NOT A SECRET THAT GOVERNMENT EMPLOYS PEOPLE LIKE MUMBI AND CHIMUMBWA TO CAUSE CONFUSION,THESE TACTICS OF DIVIDE & RULE WERE INTRODUCED BY THE CHIEF CRIMINAL,FTJ. SO I URGE BLOGGERS LIKE # 1,3 & 4 TO REFLECT BEFORE YOU CAN ATTACK THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. MUMBI TRIED TO MASCHARADE AS A CATHOLIC(the facts are there at Times Of Zambia),WHEN HE ORGANISED POOR PEOPLE FROM KAMANGA COMPOUND TO GO AND DEMONSTRATE AT THE VATICAN EMMBASSY,ISNT THAT BEING FOOLISH?

  7. Leave the catholics alone.
they are simply speeaking for the oppressed, the poor, the imaginalized society based on the calling in Ps82 and provebs 31:8

Arise and fight for justice, fight for the oppressed. A true christian must walk the talk. s/he is not like the politician who lie all the time and and do not walk the talk.

THEY ARE NOT BOOTLICKERS LIKE those former PF and other.
POLITICIANS MOVE BY THE WIND LIKE A MOSQUITO. THE CATHOLIC ARE THERE TO STAY AND STAND FOR THE LORD’S CALLING

  8. #3 WAPYA MUNZI- 2011- We are guided by our social teachings and as long as there are all sorts of social injustices in Zambia perpetrated by your Toilet Party called MMd we shall talk. You forget that the Catholic Church helped the MMD to remove Unip by advocating for Multy Partism. MMD did not complain then, so why complain now? MMD has become worse than Unip was that is why the Catholics are talking. We are not scared. We did not fear KK even after the suspicious death of our beloved Bishop Mutale. You defending a rotten system because you are a benificiary. Zambia is bigger than MMD so choose MMD at your own peril.

  9. I think the Catholic should be left alone. FTJ hates them in preference to his churches and MMD are all ganging up on them. Catholic church is not affiliated to any party and will criticise any bad behaving govt or party. These ex-PF money grabbing pigs are just being used by FTJ to disturbilise the church, opposition and all the suffering Zambian. I think the police will arresst bishop Mpundu (Just for speaking about the suffering Zambians) instead of the gun-totting Dr Musonda!

    Wake up Zambia.

  10. # 1, Yaya, at one point you said you are an elderly person, does your statement really reflect that? What has Archbishop’s statement about this failed Mumbi got to do with marriage? Don’t you think your statement entails a lot about your thought process? So imwe your thoughts are more into the bedroom. I have tried to relate the issue with marriage, I am coming up with no correlation. What formula did you use to derive at marriage and statement about Mumbi and other MMD thugs like your selfs?

  11. Bemba have become so desperate in fighting for leadership. let not see yoselves to be so clever whn infact u re just thieves. U ve even stollen HH, poor HH betraying his Tonga bull!:o

  12. Political prostitutes and dim wits, these 2! The Bishop is speaking the truth and he has stated that the Church is non partisan. So Mumbi and his friend want to please RB by speaking unnecessarily. Shame on you 2 clowns!

  13. Bishop Mpundu just speaks the truth , these so called former Secretary Generals of PF are just cursing themselves.

  14. #1, #3, #4, you are the hired thugs, paid K50,000 by MMD. I do not see how you bring Archbishop Mpundu’s family into this story??? And please be honesty with your comments, have you ever heard the Archbishop campaigning for someone from Northern province?? I REALLY QUESTION YOUR REASONING. You are the type of people the philosopher Hegel would call ” People who are innocent where reasoning is concern”.

  15. #4, you say the Archbishop should stop involving the church in politics. What do you understand by the terms “church”, “politics”? I am disgusted by people like you who willingly express ignorance, and you are stubborn in your ignorance. Luther King Jr. said sincere ignorance is the most dangerous. Even a grade 7 pupil knows that “politics” comes from a greek word “polis” meaning “city”. So politics in the simplest ,most basic understanding means “city affairs”. So everyone must be involved in the running of these city affairs. “Church” for Christians may mean “special building for religious purposes” or “Community of believers” etc. This “church” is found in the “city” therefore affected by all “city affairs”. WHAT WOULD BE WRONG IS FOR THE CHURCH LEADERSHIP TO…

  16. WHAT WOULD BE WRONG IS FOR THE CHURCH LEADERSHIP TO BELONG, SUPPORT ONE PARTICULAR PARTY AND ENCOURAGE ALL PEOPLE TO DO THE SAME! We cannot at the moment challenge the PF, UPND, UNIP, FDD on developmental projects throughout Zambia, because these Parties are not in Govt. Today we put MMD under pressure, Next year 2011 we will put PF-UPND under pressure when they form Govt. These are very simple issues to understand, they do not require you to go to University.

  17. Poverty has turned CHIMUMBWA and MUMBI who were once respected men in this poor and violent country of Zambia to become useless beggers and chimbuzi (toilets) where they are now used by mmd as dumping groung 4 their wastes. Doing such small piece works 4 mmd, shame on u poverty stricken n’gwang’waziz!!

  18. These two sponsorsed f.o.o.ls have nothing to talk about apart from attacking the catholic church and the PACT, how can these f.o.o.l.s be given close to five minutes airtime on ZNBC just to talk about about HH and sata. shame on you two f.s and your sponsors.

  19. The Catholic church has it’s fare share of issues to deal with. Whilst the church has played a critical role in enhancing democracy across the globe and been influencial in initiating policies that to some exetent…large extent lead to sound governance, Vatican administration that has a web of regional administrators such Mpundu et al., need to to be questioned on critically on any issues that they associate themselves with. As a Catholic myself, I strongly feel that Church involvement in politics should be transparent with clear objectives and a sound stance! Many people hide behind the church, even people that have stolen from the poor…is this tolerance or just another way of using the church as cover up for personal gain. Look at the other opportunist – job seeker Nevers Mumba…
