RB fires Dr. Solomon Musonda

Share

President Rupiah Banda has with immediate effect relieved Health Deputy Minister Solomon Musonda of his duties. This decision comes after the President received a report from the Director of Public Prosecution recommending for the prosecution of Dr. Musonda following a shooting incident in his constituency.

President Banda noted that he wanted the Minister to concentrate on his case and the judicial process to take its course in the matter.
This is according to a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Special Assistant to the President Dickson Jere.

Meanwhile, President Banda has appointed Mpongwe Constituency Member of Parliament Gabriel Namulambe as new Mines and Minerals Development Deputy Minister with immediate effect.

Mr Namulambe once served as Science and Technology Minister in President Banda’s government before his appointment was revoked.

  1. I wonder on what platform they will stand for their campaigns, the party is littered with scandles from the top to the bottom. Another deputy minister has bounced a 10million cheque
GENDER and Development deputy minister Lucy Changwe has bounced a cheque amounting to K10 million in a property purchase transaction.

In a letter to President Rupiah Banda dated June 9, 2010, Roger Musonda of Mkushi district, who is the owner of the property in question complained over Changwe’s conduct.

  2. no way,how does he pay the 500 million now,RB was just under so much pressure so as to return power *sigh* :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

  3. “His Excellency when I brought this matter to the attention of Hon Changwe, she told me to report her anywhere.
Sir, I am fully aware that bouncing a cheque is a criminal offence and I know that as a minister, Hon Lucy Changwe even if I report her to police today, she won’t be arrested and the Director of Public Prosecution won’t authorise her prosecution unless and until she is dropped from the ministerial position.
“His Excellency, I am therefore appealing to you for your help that I am able to have this matter reported to police and be professionally prosecuted. His Excellence, I enclose here with (1) a bounced cheque (2) Bank advice note (3) my demand letter for your easy reference. My cell number is 0977427817 and Hon Lucy Changwe number is 0977412845

  4. Now just watch the comments that will follow – he will be set free blah, blah, or this is just a show trial blah, blah, blah.

Surprised no one has called for Musonda to be lynched. Then only would people believe that the Zambian judiciary is independent.

  5. For some reason I believe Rupiah Banda is a dawn good president! Watch how Kabonde will dissappear! Who knew he would get rid of Mangani and now Musonda!!! We need RB in the UPND/PF pact!

  6. Your quick action will be highly appreciated.”

  7. Ndola central pf member of parliament is facing charges on money laundering. Already some people are saying this political!:-?

  8. “On the 15th February 2010, I managed to remind you over the payments using your well known number, that is, mobile number 0977 412845 to which you said I give you time to organise the money.

Since then you have not come back to me and even changed your mobile number. Due to the urgency of the matter I got your other number from Ms Jessica Milambo (0965 615314) again on this number you don’t pick up my calls or reply to my SMS.
But Ms Milambo told me that you phoned her and asked if she is the one who gave me your number and she said yes,” Musonda stated. “Honourable, you know how much you have publicised in and outside Mkushi that you have bought my house.

  9. Musonda you will made an example,2 years with hard labour, you see RB if you live in a glass house dont throw stones, you wanted to fix Mpombo the gazzle, you girlfriend lucy commits the same offence, you fingers are messed with faeces..meanwhile RB i hear you have appointed William Banda as Health Deputy Minister to replace Musonda…or is it Inpector General of Police.hehehehheheheh

  10. Banda do’nt cheat us you have fired him out of pressure…..No excuse ba Doctor balakakwa!!!

Sad for him, honestly speaking how do you shoot someone-where was his heart—let us learn lessons from this doctor on how dangerous some people can be to society even when they are doctors..

Another reason for MMD to lose- an MP in his own area shoots the person he is supposed to represent

  11. COMMERCE minister Felix Mutati has admitted that there is a lot abuse in the construction sector as most contractors were ineffective and over-pricing on public works.
Speaking at Intercontinental Hotel on Wednesday night when he officiated at the reception to announce the partnering of Flame Arab Constructors with Flame Zambia to spend US $10 million in setting up a quarry cement batching plant and other supporting services for the construction sector in the country, Mutati said Zambians were tired of undelivered services by contractors.
Mutati said the government was hoping that Egyptian company would help introduce technology that would help to lower the cost of construction to the levels in Egypt.

  12. He wondered why it cost US $150,000 to construct a one kilometre tar stretch in Egypt while constructing the same distance in the country costs US $1 million. Flame Arab Constructors should demonstrate that it would require around US $350,000 to construct a kilometre of tar road in Zambia.

“So, let’s bring in the people who are going to deliver for the people of Zambia at a cost-reflective price… with good quality so that the competition, the abuse particularly in the construction industry with regard to pricing, to quality to delivery, we can begin to eliminate it and chop it out,” said Mutati. “Our people, the Zambian people are tired of explanations especially from, particularly from the contractors of ‘why they are unable to deliver.”

  13. At long last! Pheew!!
Now he needs to be arrested and thrown into a jail cell.
It will not do just to fire him
He needs to dance Pelete as Mpombo would put it!

  14. Atleast you have listened to the voice of the majority, continue though long overdue. That is what leadership is all about.

  15. It would have been the most honorable thing to do for the honorable Dr. to resign instead of waiting to be fired. anyway good riddance!

  16. The fools that keep pasting things we have already read a wasting space .Red Card-Smoothcriminal are u just learning how to use the Computers? These are the same people if given positions start messing up the country because the dont think.

  17. The question still remains ‘why he was not arrested in the first instance’ Is this the new law in Zambia to wait for DPP before someone can be arrested for a criminal offence??

  18. This is the most pathetic crop of Ministers ever.
    Dr. Simon Miti
    Dr. Solomon Musonda
    Dora Siliya
    Lucy Changwe
    Add your own names here

  19. This is the most pathetic crop of Ministers ever.
    Dr. Simon Miti
    Dr. Solomon Musonda
    Dora Siliya
    Lucy Changwe

    Ronnie (Pinkie) Shikapwasha
    Mike (Shrinked Head) Mlongoti
    George (Ukwalola Umwela) Kunda

  20. I miss late President Mwanawasa for being a decisive leader, this case of Dr Musonda should have been before the courts of law by now, all it has achieved is for the President’s political opponents to exploit it to the fullest.Unless our President allows our institutions to work transparently and unaccountable he always been appearing to be working under pressure.

  21. Lock Solomon up and throw away the keys and let his sorry @ss rot in jail. On the good side he can practice in jail

  22. Musonda should have been in police custody by now!! The evidence was all there for IG chipe “Kabonde” to do his job! How the hell do you need to wait for the president to tell the police to arrest someone? Politician or not, all citizens should be trated equally!! Fire RB too. What an incompetent president. Please…. Get rid of him.

  23. #25 KCI
Which space is being wasted, educate me, and yes im learning how to use a computer! are there rules here of how and what should be posted, except for vulgarity

  24. RB is a joke – he is just reacting to donor withdrawal of aid – 1st RB says he’ll bring sanity to illegal land allocation (let’s wait and see); 2nd he fires Musonda … the donors are withdrawing over US$500million this year alone – hence the poor performance of the kwacha, which is good for me in the “diaspora”!

  25. So Gabriel Namulambe bounces back as Minister.
Its all about appeasement and trying to win in 2011.

  26. First of all , the headline is misleading. The deputy minister was not fired, but rather relieved of his duties. There is a big difference. Second, there was no pressure on the President to do this. When he landed from Mfuwe he said he awaited a report before he could comment and act. He got the report and going by the facts in the report he gave more time to Hon Musonda to deal with his legals issues. This is not new under the leadership of RB. The same was extend to Hon Siliya. So now Dr Musonda can deal with his personal legal issues without politicizing person matters by these insensitive and callous Kaponyas with no regards for the victim in all this. All you want to do is throw political punches at anything in front of you. Shame!!!

  27. So… ‘Dr’ Musonda wasn’t arrested because the DPP was out of the country??? So justice cannot be done if the DPP is out of the country (Justice sleeps…)??? KWENA…meanwhile someone was almost losing his life and the culprit was walking the streets because of DPP being out of the country??? No statement from ‘Dr’ Musonda on the use of a firearm on a defenceless soul???

  28. #38 well said my brother, but when you are dealing with people who ran away from school in grade 2:-?,, there is always alot of misunderstanding..
Thats why we need people who are educated with degrees in their hands to be presidents:-\”

  29. Is ‘Dr’ Musonda a medical/surgical doctor??? if so, why should a man that has been trained to save lives find it so easy to takeaway a life of another person be allowed to practice??? If found guilty… this man should be strpped of his licence to practice.

  30. Long overdue!!! No accolades due for the action. And whats this nonsense where they are saying they couldnt take action because the inept DPP was out of the country.!!! Does it mean that the law is absent when that guy is out of the country?

  31. Joze, Dr Simon Miti has never been a Minister…he was a Permanent Secretary. Get your facts bro! I pray that the likes of Dr Miti never get to be appointed as ministers. Miti is a kawalala!

  32. Joze, Dr Simon Miti has never been a Minister…he was a Permanent Secretary. Get your facts right bro! I pray that the likes of Dr Miti never get to be appointed as ministers. Miti is a kawalala!

  33. Delayed justice is still injustice.. This dude however needs to be off the streets. Firing him is not the law, its mounting pressure. Police should have arrested this guy for shooting an innocent civilian. In as much as this recent step is highly welcome, it is a display of selection in the way cases are handled.

  34. At first, according to unconfirmed reports, when the police approached Dr Musonda,,,,,,,,,,it was said instead of the arresting officer saying, you got the right to remain silent,he said you have the right to be delighted,if you dpn´t have any presents…they will be kindly offered. One lesson to be learnt by all cadres benefiting from this corupt shitstem that the law is going to get you and one it does, all the symtoms will show cos the lavish live was be near you.

  35. Hi #27: I am so glad that you hail from Chingola…just like me. I have made the UK my new home and have been living here for the past several years. This aside, its good news that Dr. Musonda is now facing justice for his alleged shooting of that poor soul. This should be a lesson to all that none is above the law.

  36. Good though the president is acting from pressure. Especially that the UN and the donors are withdrawing funding for corruption and the useless leadership of RB nyama soya. RB has to be carefull with the UN and the donor community….they have lost trust in him. Really we have a very dull and useless president in state house. RB thinks we are in the 1960s and 70s political epoch, its sad that he cant notice that this is a computer epoch where all the info and data is just at figure tips. Its an epoch of free speech and association. SHAME ON LUPIYA BANDA….sheme on him.:)>-:)>-

  37. I do agree with what most you ladies and gentlemen have written you must first understand as to what led the minister to draw a gun these cadres are also misbehaving do not miss quote me but as a criminal psychologist i can not take sides before knowing all the facts about the subject matter.

  38. This is just what we call acting for the cause of the poor. Thumbs up RB for this one! Keep doing this and your name will not go down in infamy.

  39. Congratulation PF, UPND and other NGO for putting pressure on RB. You efforts have made a difference. At least the opposition and the NGOs are doing their job, that is to put pressure on government to act. Next is the ZAMTEL valuation report. Continue pressurising. Also congratulations RB for listening and acting as expected. I would not say it is too late because Dr Musonda is actually feeling the fresh and first punches of a huge knock-out that awaits him.

RB continue listening from the wise words of the UPND/PF and all wise Zambians you will one day be a good president before you leave office…….SOOOOON

  40. #52 (London) Mr or Mrs criminal Psychologist, pardon me… lets be realistic here. Granted, party cadres can be very unruly; but they were not armed for crying out loud! Musonda’s car was very much intact. Not even one warning shot was fired! He aimed for the head! Obviously shooting to kill. Come on now… What if that boy (cadre or not) was your son, or brother or cousin. would you still maintain that attitude, be very honest now.

  41. #50 Angel Light – Good to see some Chingola people up on here. I am in the US.

Chingola is a sorry sight now but home is home.

  42. #52, are you implying that at any time you disagree with someone, one has a right to use maximum force to get the other person to agree with one’s point of view? We have seen what has happened in some parliaments in the far east where MP’s have resorted to boxing in the parliament! If one cannot debate/discuss an issue without losing one’s cool, they should move on.

  43. Looks like some pipo will do anything to just make themselves feel good even when things are there for everyone to see. MMD Chief Bootlicker honnestly how can you try and paint this as a good thing. The guy has been fired. Whether you call it that or otherwise, he no longer has a job cause he did something he shouldnt have done. And man you are so sad you even go ahead and change your name to Ndobo (#38) and pretend to be someone else and give your self support. Get a life

  44. # 52, then dont comment on something that you dont know better keep your criminal psychology and comment later when the time appropriate.

  45. Finally Shrek has caved in to internal and international pressure. This man should have been arrested and charged immediately this came out. He could then have been bailed and awaited trial. Instead they were trying to bribe the victim with a few Kwacha to get him to change his story and save MMD more embarrassment. Now that the so called co-operating partners have seen Shrek for the joker he is, they are becoming too embarrassed to continue turning a blind eye. He is still shielding a lot of thieves and violent miscreants in MMD.

  46. Finally RB has heed to pressure to take action against Dr Musonda! I wonder why they have to wait for the DPP to have someone arrested, how I would wish all other perceived criminal would be treated the same way.

  47. Dont blame RB for not taking action on time but blame the police and DPP for failing to do the investigation within a short period of time and then submit report to RB

  48. # 67 and 68, i know those places very well cause i lived in Kabundi East and went to Kabundi Secondary
When did you leave CN and where did you go to school?

  49. imwe guyz bapa chingola nimwishiba ati tulibengi aba pa CN. bambia nabaifisa apapene. ine ndiwa ku kapisha kulya ku last wa mushi.

  50. # 56 and # 50
Our Home Chingola really looks Bad imagine the road to Buyantashi is now gravel even the whole riverside which used to be a beauty is now just ulukungu lwekalweka. its very Sad am going to visit Chingola in August I do not know how I will even drive around. all because of Alaabee and his kaponyas, they do not care about the local people the most important are the Indians ati ba infestor babe intweno!!

  51. am also from Chingola # 56 and # 50
Our Home Chingola really looks Bad imagine the road to Buyantashi is now gravel even the whole riverside which used to be a beauty is now just ulukungu lwekalweka. its very Sad am going to visit Chingola in August I do not know how I will even drive around. all because of Alaabee and his kaponyas, they do not care about the local people the most important are the Indians ati ba infestor babe intweno!!

  52. OK ba London #52 just try shooting someone in the head in London and then try to explain to the cops mweeeeeeeee!!! you’ll be locked for ever, no president will ever even hear about it

  53. 9. Don’t copy and paste. give us your story. By the way this is not related to Musonda’s punishment. Hint: Talk about how Musonda will be trotting to prison etc for being rude.

  54. Dr. Musonda will most likely be charged with using excessive force rather than attempted murder. Most likely he responded to an aggressive situation but was very careless with his gun. I would not be surprised that he argues that the gun went off accidentally as he panicked. Credibility will be a critical issue here. Mr Musaka can also be charged depending on his role in his shooting. He will not get anything of the K500 million that he is asking for. Dr. Musonda’s short political career is most likely over.

  55. Imwe ba chingola, mbolo zanu, why cant you post a pnone number and that way you will communicate more efficiently . you are eating up space.
For RB, thats a a good move now the police must deal with that Musonda thing. And that Changwe woman , what a bad time she chose to bounce a cheque.

  56. Iwe #82 Pact – Leave us Chingola people to reminisce. It was such fan growing up in that town. Riverside rocked! The streets, Chikola, All the Kabundi’s. I even visited Kapisha and Kazanga sometimes.

  57. #81, excuses such as the gun went off accidentally won’t really hold considering time of day, it was in early evening, you can’t really claim you were trying to scare someone who couldn’t make out what you were trying to scare them with, a warning shot would have held him in good sted, but he didn’t fire one. If he claims he was really a very bad shot, this then disqualifies him from holding a gun license!! Panicking whilst in possession/handling of a dangerous weapon is a very meek excuse when there no evidence of offensive weapons held by your adversary, & further cements the notion that he should never have held a license in the first place. This Musaka boy needs a very good lawyer becoz Musonda’s defences are porous!!

  58. doctors belong in the the hospital wards, clinics and doctor’s rooms…. or take up a role in the medical association if they want to toy around with administration/ politics. this zambian thing of training doctors to turn them into party cadres is really sickening and backward. actually its not only a zambian thing. it is an african thing. unless one has taken up additional post grad training in systems management, administration, economics, human resources, public relations, risk management and the list goes on, one has no business occupying such highly strategic functions. relying on getting advise from your technocrats is out because it never works out as misinformation from them, because of patronage and your lack of ability to critically evaluate it becomes the order of the day

  59. Webman – not exactly!! You actually shot yourself in the foot!! Ministerial positions require NO POSTGRADUATE TRAINING AT ALL!!! It’s the Technocrats who need such training!! Every zambian has a birth right to engage in politics whether doctor or not!! However, its peoples performance in these positions that may be questioned & not their right!!

  60. There is no credit or praise that Rupiah deserves for dropping Dr Musonda from his government and for allowing him to be prosecuted. The truth is he was not interested in Dr Musonda being prosecuted. Rupiah publicly stated that he felt sorry for Dr Musonda while not attempting in any small way to show sympathy for the victim. When did the change of heart occur on Rupiah’s part? Rupiah still feels sorry for Dr Musonda and will do everything possible to ensure that he gets away with it. We will not be surprised to find that Dr Musonda’s matter moves very quickly in our courts and is found with no case to answer or is totally acquitted of the crime. It will also not surprise us if tomorrow we wake up to find that Mchenga has been instructed to extend a nolle prosequi in favour…

  61. musonda .an MP elected in violence and dismissed in violence .you cant separate the two .what is interesting about this ,is that a medical doctor is mostly seen as a noble person with noble ideas about people and community .the medical council of zambia should not wait to be reminded to condemn what this pathetic chap has done to the medical proffession .at least we ar used to the evils fo the politicians but in the like of medical doctors .maybe that is why U.TH has such a low trust level to zambians ,especially politicians .

  62. @NDOBO #40.
Actually, the most educated r bad leaders. look at BOB in Zim, Prof Lungwangwa & the list is endless. They r also very dependant. However, look at Sata as an example. He has proven to be a good leader. He is a big businessman who has invested wisely & still enjoys his money. In contrary, look at RB, the so called Dr FTJ,Dr Mitti, only thugery. Even Bill gates left school because school limited his own desire to explore where written knowledge has not yet touched. Newton too. Most educated people r dependant & those that thrive in these bitter economies r the less educated. Leaders r born not made. Dr MUSONDA is a good example for taking authority to his bored dull head. Our degrees r less important to development of our country, its our values personal & natural judgment.

  63. Musonda,Katele,Chiluba,Chungu>>>>>> etc all belong to a crap of irrelevant tribe in Zambia which has draged country into desistute, begar abjact poverty to mention a few.Honestry ,pls have a bit of shame on your faces atleast.what the hell is wrong with that clan of holigans..!

  64. RB has not tempered with the case he has just relieved musonda off his duties bcos he cant be minister wkile he is facing charges of a seruois criminal nature in court. what happens afterwards is up to the accused to defend himself. he is innocent till proven guilty. RB will folo the law not amatako

  65. # 90 Zedian; Good points. We already have a precedent here; it could be a nolle followed by a re-appointment. A reprise of Dora Siliya!

However what is of interest to me is the (re)-appointment of Gabriel Nalubambe as a deputy Minister. This guy has been openly working against the MMD and was even in Mufumbwe campaigning for the PACT. Could we be seeing RB trying to split the emerging opposition be it within MMD or the ‘lamba’ group (mpombo and group)? or could it be a case of him having second thoughts about having too many enemies out of his tent?(remember John Major’s famous on-mic quip about it being better “to have your enemies within the tent p e e ing outside than have them on the outside p e e ing inside?). Whichever, this is getting interesting.

  66. It just makes RB look bad politically to keep this f o o l so he is trying to distance himself from musonda and fired him. Make no mistake, its not coming from any moral sense of justice or anything like that.

  67. Kaponyas cant debate real national issues. Instead they recklessly waste LT space by talking about the dirtiest city in Zambia-Chingola. What a shame to my people. We work hard 24/7 to get investors to your city but its hard to do so with your myopic and short sighted thinking.

  68. For PF/UPND the whole pacto has band wagoned on the case! Wynter Kabinba is fighting tooth and nail to be part of the prosecuting team? Are you serious? Would this have happened if the cadre was an MMD supporter? What a shame how kaponyas will start claiming to be lawyers just because a cadre is involved. 1985 lawyer? what?
    Pacto is goin down
