United Party for National Development (UPND) has described as a “smoke screen,” the decision by republican President, Rupiah Banda, to re-appoint expelled science and technology deputy minister, Gabriel Namulambe into government.
And the party has urged the newly appointed mines deputy minister, to be cautious because the MMD have not changed their perception about the fact that he is their enemy and that is why he is being kept closer.
Mazabuka central Member of Parliament, Garry Nkombo said Mr Namulambe has been trapped by the ruling party to allow him to make a decision of his own.
Mr Nkombo has also challenged President Banda to reveal when he reconciled with mr Namulambe because everyone knows that the two have been at logger headas for a long time.
He indicated that the two leaders have differed on principle and it is suprising that mr Namulambe could just be brought back like that.
Mr Nkombo said that mr Namulambe was unceremoniously fired and the nation demands to know how the president decided to bring him back, despite the fact that hehas the appointing and disappointing powers.

The president has the powers to appoint or sack cabinet ministers period! Get over it Mr Nkombo or better still provide us with some policies as to how you propose to make Zambia a more prosperous nation.
i spent the whole day asking the same questions that Mr Nkombo is posing. The conclusion i made was this re-appointment has NOTHING to do with what s best 4 our country or anything remotely connected to that, but GREED 4 power and re-positioning 4 2011.
If Mr Namulambe was not happy he could have refused this offer from Bwezani. The problem with our politicians they are loud mouthing RB, but as soon as he offers them a job to shut them up they gladly accept.Namulambe is a disgrace
The president does not need to announce that he has reconciled with Mr Namalubambe or not. If they were at logger heads, Nalubambe had the right to refuse the post.
Mr Nkombo, as # 1 put it, provide us with policies??
hee guys …Mr Nkhombo is 100 % right. RB has nothing in his head coz he goes back to his vomits in the same way a dog does. When a dog vomits , the vomit is bad for the body but you see it again eating the same stinking stuff the body has refused. This is how RB behaves…he does not know what is good or bad, to him any thing is bad and good at the same time. What a president you have in Zambian. Can you really expect good things or development from such a person- a vomit eater? No you cant. RB is doing trial and error in runing this country and the end will be more disastrous than that of the chief thief Chiluba. REALLY FALLEN IS LUPIYA BANDA THE useless president.:)>-:)>-
And u MMD thugs please dont just support even when you know that RB is showing uselessness in his behaviour. RB is the president who should set an example to the nation in the way he behaves. In fact advice him to behave so that he can attract more supportes. But as it stands u guys are chasing supporters. Any its a family disease. Yaba…:o:o:o
I personally dont think that RB is useless. If Satan could ‘reconcile’ with Mwanawasa, why cant RB reconcile with Nalubambe? Do you people know what has been going in the background between the two? You are only worried because you think that might affect the so called Lamba vote in CB province. As people have stated above, why did Nalubambe accept the job? As for positioning for 2011, that is what you do in politics. The combined brain power of UPND and PF have so far failed to come up with a credible vision of what they want to do for Zambia in the future. NAREP have managed it so why cant the pact? Why should I trust a bunch of people to lead the country when they dont trust themselves to put up a possible future president for the country?
Come 2011, on that D-Day, the imminent fateful day for mmd, the mighty 4 Ds come into effect-Disrupt Dismantle Defeat and Destroy mmd. With their bubbles burst and the carrot having suddenly stopped dangling, Boot licker, senior citizen and cohorts whom unfortunately have burnt so many bridges because of their menacingly, ferocious pro-incumbent propagandist spin-doctor demeanors, whose senseless insatiable vampirism appetite make them Zed public foes, traverses the following metamorphosis: Shock-grief-bewilderment-dejection and finally into oblivion( back to nothingness, worse than before)and become mere statistics.
Republican President Rupiah Banda says he fired former science minister Gabriel Namulambe because he is a tribalist.
Speaking when he addressed Zambians resident in Ethiopia on Saturday night, Mr. Banda emphasized that he would not hesitate to dismiss government leaders who promote division amongst tribes and race.
Mr. Banda disclosed that he had written to Mr. Namulambe to apologize over his remarks regarding the Lamba people, but later fired him because he did not show any remorse over his comments.
Question is; has Namulambe apologised and shown remorse for his tribalistic rants? is MMD so short of capable people to be cabinet ministers other than these recycled politicians
Kambongolo, I expect you to know that there are no permanent enemies in politics. Mr Nkombo is unhappy that Namulambe did not behave like Mpombo and Magande. He kept quiet and behaved well. Appointing Mpombo or Magande would be a smokescreen because the too been de-campaigning their own party. It will not be easy for the opposition come next year I can assure you because they have completely no agenda for Zambia.
Sansakuwa
Shake your head Man. Republican President is in a public office as well as Namulambe and not in MMD Office. OK. According to RB Namulambe was fired because he is a tribalist. Now when did Namulambe reformed, what merit has RB seen is GN. RB should explain and give a reason to Zambian as why he made up his mind. Your mind set ( appoint or sack ) is taking us backward. Lets bring good sanit in our Govt. Indispline person should not hold offices in govt
#10 Adviser
You are absolutely right when you say there are no permanent enemies in politics and anywhere else for that matter. But running a govnt and leading 12million people who expect the best from leadership should be a matter of principle and being foresighted.namulambe was fired not because he was an enemy but because his utterances boardered on tribalism which is not expected of a leader.A wrong is a wrong,no justification,he had an opportunity to lead,he messed up,why not give this opoortunity to other people and see what they can contribute. This is simply showing that Namulambe has flexed his muscle and makes RB look spineless
nkombo in a political novice, he should have asked a better question than that… i also remember sata reconciling with xavier chishimba, i don’t remember anyone question that reconciliation.:-?
i really feel sorry for UNPD followers,,, they are following leaders who are following other leaders
ndobo@ 13 UPND not UNPD its not United Nations…
I think what is happening in Zambia is a painful circus with Rupiah Banda being the chief muppet calling the shots and initiating moves clearly synonimous with those of a headless chicken. This is not the way to run a country, no! You cannot fire someone today for such big reasons as incompetence and the legacy today only to bring them back at a lower level the following day and hide behind presidential prerogative when challenged to explain why? Only is Zambia can such foolish moves be made, even by presidents! By the way, I saw Banda on TV last night watching the Brazil / Ivory Coast game, he is in Cape town as we are talking.
#14 chikumbutso8-| thanks,, great job to spot that one!
Sata once called UPND a tribal party, lead by a calculator boy who does not understand politics, and Sata insisted that HH should explain how he accumilated his wealth from privatisation, short of calling HH a crook. Similarly, HH called Sata an oldman who needed to retire. Today these two rivals are working together, what has changed? Nkombo, that is politics for you, you as a pact have a long way to go before you can unseat MMD, if you can be moved by a simple appointment.
#16 Realist.. well said! one good thing is that one doesnot need a degree to undersatnd your comment.. well done man:-w
i would love to hear a reaction from short sighted uneducated kaponyas.. desperate to rule zambia:-\”
sorry #17 realist
I’ve just come to realize that with MMD as long as someting happened in the past no matter how bad it could have been, its ok to do it all over again,Just because sata and HH ate shit,so the mmd should also do the same, without being questioned coz there’s a precedence, just like aid freeze,it happened way back,so it can happen even now
This re-appointment is not about reconciliiation, its supposed to be on principle,he was fired for doing something wrong, has he reformed? is he coming back a better person? arent there any people within the ranks who can do the job better than him, dont be trivial, think outside the mmd bubble
ITS CALLED ZAMBIAN POLITICS . . .LUCKILY I HAVE THE DIRTEST OF THEM OF MY SIDE … VJ, WILLIE BANDA, SCORPION, KADOBI, MABENGA ETC.. . . .SATA WILL RECONCILE WITH ME SOON
#11 Real MMD – the ELECTED President of the Republic of Zambia can appoint and sack from the cabinet as he wishes based on whatever criteria he or she sees fit. Do you think we should have a referendum every time he wishes to appoint or sack a cabinet minister? Lets grow up and be realistic.
As I have already said above Mwanawasa supposedly reconciled with Sata who is now best of friends with HH to the extent that HH seems to have given up his ambition to become republican president for the time being. So why should it be so difficult to accept that RB and Nalubambe have reconciled just because they did not explain anything to you?
Namulambe was ill prepared when he lost his job.My uncle who is settled in Nampamba recounted how Namulambe asobene after leaving cabinet.
Sansakuwa, what you are suggesting is complete abdication of our role as a people to demand accountability for every action our elected officials make on our behalf, which I think is the “stupidest” thing any human being with five senses can do, especially an African. The creators of the Act called Presidential Prerogative did not intend it to cover silly acts by the presidency that are clearly devoid of logic like the hiring and firing of ministers on grounds that only make sense to the appointing authority, no. When did Namulambe puke his tribal bigotry and for one I never head of the former Home Affairs minister, whatever his name, suddenly becoming competent overnight. We never elected Banda to stock ministries with dead wood, no.
Its just about positioning for 2011 so RB coxed and Namulambe and am sure even bribed him to convince him to come back. If I were namulambe I would refuse to be treated like a kid, but knowing the politics of poverty in Zambia and the desire to amass wealth he couldn’t resist. Zambian politicians, its all about money no principles and no pride
If Namulambe had any principles, he would have declined this reappointment after that ignomimious and embarrasing dismissal by RB.
I fail to understand why everyone is so focused on the appointing authority rather than the appointee whose principles should rightly be questioned here! If namulambe had an iota of self-respect and principles, he should have been the one to decline the appointment having been so unceremoniously chucked out like yesterday’s chibuku vomit. Clearly rupiya is merely using namulambe as a tool to achieve his own political ambitions, a ploy both namulambe and the other appointee are too shallow to see for what it is.
