President Rupiah Banda was last night expected to join football fans to watch a crunch group G World Cup match between South American giants Brazil and African heavyweights, Ivory Coast. Special assistant to the president for Press and public relations, Dickson Jere said this in a media release in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Banda made a stopover in South Africa on his way to Namibia for a State visit, where he was invited by his Namibian counterpart, Hifikepunye Pohamba.
‘‘President Banda will leave for Namibia via South Africa where he will stop-over for meetings and later in the evening join His Excellency, Mr Jacob Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa at a World Cup match between Ivory Coast and Brazil,’’ Mr Jere said after the president’s departure.
The president was accompanied to Namibia by First Lady, Thandiwe Banda, Foreign Affairs Minister, Kabinga Pande, parliamentary chief whip Vernon Mwaanga and other senior Government officials.
This is the first State visit President Banda is undertaking to Namibia since he became Zambia’s head of State in 2008.

Zambians will not eat the rubbish of Sata but ongoing national development.
Residents Commend Govt for New Chongwe Hospital
CHONGWE residents have commended the Government for building a district hospital that will help decongest the health centre in the area. Some residents interviewed, mostly women, said the construction of the hospital was a step in the right direction.
Emeldah Mweene, a mother of four and a trader at Chongwe Market, said at the weekend that the hospital project had brought joy to many residents of Chongwe some of whom preferred to stay at home whenever they were sick for fear of congestion at the only health centre in the district.
Mrs Mweene said that some pregnant women died in their houses because of failure to seek antenatal services citing congestion, while under-five children had also been denied proper medication.
“We want to thank President Rupiah Banda for considering us in Chongwe and for building us a hospital which will save lives,” she said.
And Evans Haatyole advised Zambians to avoid politicising developmental projects such as construction of schools, roads and health facilities.
“We cannot eat politics and it is important that Zambians acknowledge this fact because if politics is allowed to dominate everything we do, then very little developmental programmes will take place,” Mr Haatyole said.
Chongwe District Commissioner Japhen Mwakalombe said more than K3 billion has been spent on the construction of the hospital and reiterated Government’s commitment to making health services accessible to all.Mr Mwakalombe appealed to the residents to ensure the new hospital was not vandalised because that would be retrogressive.
koma pali mileage and air miles pali kateka uyu!:-?:-?:-?
Pitani bwino a Bwezani athu. Hope you enjoyed the game in South Africa. Continue to forge relationships with our African neighbours as well as the rest of the world.
Miss Pretty , thats the first thing that came to mind, so much mileage not doing anything tangable. its such a shame that we have leaders like this one.and he still wants another term.
Bwezani mileage Banda kamwendo mujila is at it again,am sure he has entered the Genis book of records for being the most travelling president in the world.Bwezani your are a kamwendo for sure making it in the book.
Well done Mr. President. You have continued to forge Zambia’s relationship with the international community. I emulate you to the highest pitch and spirit of foreign affairs. Zambians have shown and will continue to show our love for you and our country. As you discuss important economic affairs with Namibia, it is our prayer that you enjoy a long and happy life in order to continue providing your leadership to our country.
All Zambians are appreciating your majesty and your wisdom in your leadership skills. Have a good evening sir.
#1-3 Mwata, your comments are off the mark. What a route to take: Zambia – South Afr. – Namibia. Really Zambia has a lot of money to waste. It is luxury for a president to fly on private jet to go and watch a football match. Spare us this nonsense of ‘meetings’! That jet is serviced every week and it costs. Why do we have a fool for president????
I wrote ‘why do we have a f.o.o.l for president???
Mwata defend your friend Kamwendo munjila the first Zambian President to have gone for a live world cup game at the cost of the poor tax payers money
# 8 Chief Boot Licker
Is that mockery or its a serious prise????? coz for me its actully the opposite. I feel that we Zambians are beeing taken for a ride, a very Bad one
I think this is not an issue of Banda making wrong mistakes. He is doing what anyone would do knowing that he is ruler of a nation which would accept the nonsense they would do. If Zambians were a serious people, Banda would have stopped this kind of nonsense. He has created a police state that only his will would be accepted. Zambia does no longer have a Police Force, it does not have an Army or Airforce. Banda is the all three and as such what do you expect? He is ruling like Fidel Castro were all Army Officers only see a gun or military equipment after he Banda himself has inspected the guns and equpiment personally. Zambia army soldiers only see guns when they go for international duties. In Zambia they are supposed to move with sticks or thumbs in their mouths. That is Zambia today.
#1 Mwata you are useless
Kwena Zambia elyo yatekwa. Ukukwena ekusebana. Only in Zambia all these can be happening.
Hehee…Kamwendo mu road at it again. These MMD thieves have gone to share the Zamtel loot. They are such a useless batch of mantiated , AIDS infected and drug traffickers. What do you expect from such heartless people. Mhhhh just imagine the whole MMD thiefdom has gone to watch soccer in South africa at the expense of poor Zambians. What dull creatures God put in the Zambian leadership. Very dull creatures indeed who shall one day account for their theft . :)>-:)>-:)>-
ifipuba ati good international relations my ash I feel like crying, Kuti watukana naya mukulala
#17 You are a fool go and sleep. If your was or is a labouror who has no privalages in his Job that should not be your problem. when did u last pay tax to Zambia for u to be yapping like that-you fool
Incompetence in Africa. Starts from the Presidents, goes to soccer teams, and even the referees. What a shame.
MWATA!!
CHIKALA CHAKO
#1,2,3 & 8…HONESTLY ARE ZAMBIANS?
MAY GOD HELP AND REDEEM THE TAX PAYERS FROM THIS EVIL GOVERNMENT OF PARASITES
If Sata gets into state house, he wont travel because nobody will want to host him:(
No there is no ptoblem flying to SA for “meetings” and while there just happen to make it to the world cup. He should continue accepting every invitation to travel…tili pa auto pilot anyway.
Title of this story should be:
President Banda sneaks out of the country for World Cup.
Banda did not go to Namibia as the title seem to be reporting. He literally sneaked out and that to MMD cadres is good leadership. When he will be in trouble like FTJ, he will start fooling Zambians about some heart troubles that we have not heard about. Chiluba has now forgotten about his heart, come next year, it will resurface. Banda will be doing the same next year.
what surprises me is that there is a disaster in sinazongwe where 22 miners are injured, and this president doesnt even make mention of it… is this seriously a time to be watching football?? that namibia trip should have been cancelled!!
HANG ON a minute
The president was in Namibia 2 or 3 months when he attended the inauguration of HIFIKEPUNYE POHAMBA and Namibia’s 20th Indepedence anniversary celebrations. Whilst there he lured some investors in form of farmers who were to work with our zambian farmers in western province.
Any sane president would not do such a thing, visiting the same country in a space of 2months
What a disgraceful president-Banda the whole world has ever seen. He doesn’t bring any caliber to the people of Zambia. I’m thinking this guy has all it planned because he knows he won’t make it 2011. He going around hiding stash of moneys around
MMD cadres, if your President can sneak out on 11 million people, how many times has he sneaked out on his wife? Is Dora Siliya back from South Africa? Was she trying to sneak out of the country that way people cannot suspect some she is in South Africa. What is up with MMD leadership sneaking out? Could this be Zamtel money being sneaked out without our knowing? Who else will sneak out next? Now even Eastern Province has international routes? What is happening kanshi?
Hope he sees for himself how Namibia is developing even though they judt got their independence in the 90´s and whom they do business with. Vasco Banda is a big joke for president.
Only butty man is in full support of MMD. Panyo panu.
Many times I read the comments but do not contribute. The comments that passed are normally very strong and disrespectful. Such comments will never ever change things the way they are done. It seems we are good at talking and writing but have no tangible solutions to all these problems. I think we need to come up with solutions by holding those in authority accountable. Now this accountability can only start with you and me. If that is done it will impact those around us and it will go on. Change will not come overnight and even if the other party come into power that will take time. But the people of Zambia must be able to demand for quality service and hold those in authority responsible.
Even if we are in diaspora there is something we can do rather than all the writing insults.
We do not enjoy reading unpalatable wiritings. Please let us show that we can reason differently!
# 18 wapya Munzi
Please on your writing, I pay Tax in Zambia everyday because I buy and sell everyday in Zambia in order to help the people that you are stepping on. waba i t>o>le
What constitutes state visit…surely we expect regional heads to come over for state visits too, but alas, abesu niba chief tourists, i am sure even in his autography, he has put TRAVELLING as a hobby, filya twelelanda akale..does bwezeni never get concerned about countless plane crushes in the recent past, we may be headed for another presidential by elections at the rate this man is flying…
MMD suppoters you should be vey careful with what you praise RB for. Honestly with so many problems our country is facing how can he travel aimlessly like this?? We dont benefit anything from these trips. :-w:-w:-w
I have followed most comments here and it seems people are playing the man and not the ball. This is a sign that people were badly brought up. Look the man will not be there forever but the issues of poverty will be around for many years to come. Insulting an old man wont put food on you table or a roof on your mothers head. Recall that Zambians insulted KK (ati fonko fonko), FTJ (ati ka chi colour ka kabolala) Levy Partick (ati cabbage), now RB (ati Nyama soya or Vasco da Banda). I am sure even if Sata came into power (as most of you seem to believe), you will still insult him (ati ngoshe uwa putuka umuchila). Look you chaps, though insults may make you laugh and get a short relief from you troubles it wont change the lives of your children and that of your children’s children. Put up.
u just gotta love this guy. i mean honestly, how do we handle genuinely retarded and dull people in order to show them that, yes, they may be a**holes, but we love em anyway. I attribute RB’s actions to old age. U know the term ‘bungling old fool’, i skim that sums him up very nicely. If he’d been younger, then yes we wud be rite to b.i.t.c.h, but the dude is at an age were he just doesnt give a toss. He’s dying soon anyways (hopefully) so why not make the best of it. This is a man who faced the twilight years chasing chickens from the maize hang out to dry or milking pigs while squinting at the sun on his stool at his farm and then u put him as President?? Wat did u expect??
We all know who put this man on Zambians but many want to run away from that fact the question is who brought back from retirement? Do you all remember when Chiluba became some one’s sister in the cabbage times?
Does anyone of you truly believe that our new president after Banda will never travel outside the country? Don’t tell me the nonsense about Banda having traveled too much because compared with his predecessors, he hasn’t. Numbers say so. If you don’t trust that numbers matter, then don’t talk. You are dead wood.
The 1st thing Sata promised to do when in power was to go to dead Zimbabwe! He was chased in Malawi. Imagine, even b4 becoming president, he already has a diplomatic row with a close neighbour (Malawi) and a far country (China). He’s banned in South Africa where he has a ‘theft’ case. Is that why when RB finds friends u pull him down?
I dread the day Sata rules this beautiful country. I dread the day.
39 Pwando
this is not about sata, its about RB,the man was in namibia 2 months ago, what is it that he couldnt do then that he decides to visit the same country twice, its not even a matter of comparing, its a matter of having priorities…how about showing leadership maturity, instead of watching football he goes to visit the mine accident people, that money he’s spent watching football with that delegation can be channeled elsewhere.Obama cut his visits so he can sort out the oil spill issue with bp,how about that
Whats happening up in the air?All i hear is A PLANE CRUSHED.The Australian plane crushed in Congo and there is no survivor.
Its not safe up there. Please advise your people to stop traveling unnecessarily.
I wish DR NGOMA made his political rhetoric on this one-He is living in a box.
president banda is chief executive officer and foreign travel is part of his job. he is the chief marketing officer of zambia. bembas say mwana ashenda atasha nyina kunaya bwali. obama in the short period he has been president has been to more than 26 countries including 3 in africa. should USA qualify to the quqrter finals in world cup then obama will travel to south africa to watch world cup. sata the alarmist as usual was saying rb in sneaking out yet that youngman dickson jere announced to the whole world that rb is going to namibia but would stop over in SA to watch ivorycoast vs brazil. all work no play makes sata a dull boy. rb doesnt enjoy flying as some fools may believe but just that his job demands that he has to make foreign travel.
#36 you are right on.Most people seem to miss the point.Governments, good or bad, will come and go but those who do not play their cards right will still remain the same.People who know what they want have set their goals straight. They were cleaners now they are in managerial positions.Because after bearing the pains of the broom they were compelled to go back to schools, got certificates and consequently degrees. But those who are not focused will remain complaining forever till judgment. Thus the prudent thingfor us to do is to educate our young and teach them morals, the good ways of living only then will they be happy citizens.
Is Zambia polarized?? or is it one self serving ethnic segment of society merely arguing from their own point of weakness in order to distract attention about their diminished interests since LPM (MHISRIP).
I ask because with all that RB has done, there must be some good in most of it don’t you think?
:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\” you see bloggers jus blog for the sake of making useless comments known. if only they would contribute sensible stuff. but alas…they are busy in the diaspora making ends meet. gud thing they dont vote. they will forever be immigrants.
there are some good bloggers who make good contributions. others are plain clowns. to all my brothers in the diaspora who are trully helpin to develop zambia, i salute you. to all you other clowns who just do fraud and sleep at home, while your chik who you cohabit with works, get a job!!!!
one life time to watch Brazil????? what state visit
please give us a break
#8, Boot Licker: I’d expect what you have posted to come from the mind of an insane *****, or are you deliberately trying to annoy others?
If you see any majesty and much wisdom in the things that your Bwezani does, then surely you must have your own peculiar meanings for the words “majesty” and “wisdom”, not the meanings that normal people take them to import! And are you sure it’s all Zambians who appreciate…..?
We shall see if Sata or Hichilema will spend their entire lives in the Game park cold statehouse, I am sure they will use more fuel traveling to Taiwan, on money laundering missions
I think you zambians at home should make you GRZ accountable to this nonsense! You have major issues at home and all you do is just sit down and let this president and his minnions piss on you. Wake up and stand up for your beautiful country. You can still make it, but not with this crap from MMD or these finished and recycled leaders. Get rid of them please!
#9, NAPAPA SANA!!!!!!, I think even 1,2,3, Mwata is embarrassed by the wastefulness and insensitivity of his master, Bwezani, and he is trying to throw a red herring to distract bloggers’ attention from his boss’s most unacceptable and irresponsible behaviour.
#25,i totally agree with u!How does he float around the continent like that with disasters occuring in his own land!He is a total embarasment.Ati twali kwata president! One who is either drunk, asleep or out of the country!
What are his so-called advisors doing!I get so irritated with all this ******* behaviour!
Let him enjoy it while it lasts.I don’t see anyone sensible voting him back into office.
Can Zambia openly reveal to us who the real president is right now,cos it surely aint RB!It’s just his image being used…..chinso cha Bwezani tyala!
:((:((:((:((:(( Laughter does not always mean happiness. This time i laugh because after being so disappointed by this so called president of Zambia I have found that it does not help me in any way to get upset because the man cannot learn and in fact does not know what he is doing. Its all nonsense. If any of you guys watched a documentary yesterday on BBC4 about Zambia and Chinese investment you would understand how bad the situation RB has put this country into just within this short time he is being into office. I find it difficult to understand that actually some people have the energy to support this liability of a president
Mwata, Boot licker, Senior Citizen- This Axis of evil, if MMD told them that faeces are nutirious, they would defend this POLICY with their lives.
# 47, just chill. You want us to contribute sensible stuff so that what….? This is just bubble gum. Chew some, spit out and move on. No need to get all passionate and nollywood dramatic about it. It’s just blogging baby. Blog.
Ba Zodie muli mpemfu, no wonder you drowned. Ubupuba!
i have tried to be quiet about this issue for a long time but now i think it is too much. this guy doesnt want to be in Zambia at all. he is just flying over the country. What a president. he went to china for state visit and since then he’s traveled to over 7 countries if am not mistaken. another state visit again. how many presidents visit Zambia? mwe bantu bakwalesa mwee!! he’s saying let me use the presidential chopper before i leave state house!!! honestly i feel like a fool for supporting this guy in the last election but i dont support Sata either. i just dont know who is good now!
Root for HH ppl( Let`s forego our tribal inclinations). He has impeccable credentials, understands well the global and local economies, is well connected and can attract legit investors who would be more comfortable with him at the helm. As for Sata, he`s a spent force co`s he `s been around for too long plus he `s a terrible political manipulator. RB needs to go back to being the headman, helping the Chief in intra-Village and domestic conflict resolutions. By the way, he`s too itinerant with lttle if not nothing to show for
MMDBootlicker and yr likes, remember you `r lining your pockets at the expense of a sea of impoverished ppl back home who are hopeless and helpless. With such sorry big picture of poor living standards in mind, it`s inconceivable that any sane mind can be so enchanted and melodramatic about the performance of the current regime. Yes! u`r living blissfully but hang on, do you purposely choose to ignore the suffering multitudes who`s circumstances are due to bad political decisions? It`s about time you became rational and empathetic and use your privilege to uplift the hopeless by fighting for justice, equality and their welfare. Remember, your pride as an individual and as a Zambian can only be validated if the nation and it`s citizenry made real strides economically
The truth is not far fetched. Our country is one of the best countries to be in. One, no war. Two, free markets. Three, good government policies towards investors. Four, From KK to the majesty current presdent, we have never lapsed in national security. Some of you blind PF/UPND kaponyas are used to fighting in the streets and you want Satan and Ichilema to take our country backwards. My message has been the same unlike some of you who jump from different positions because of your blind folded brains in Satans hands. Choose wisely otherwise you shall perish like a plant that withers in the heat of the desert sand. Mark my words
I have seen the program on Zambia-China relationship on BBC4 on iPlayer and it is so disgusting! How can you say you have a democracy in Zambia when your President is being treated like god when he gets out of that plane? Chinese people buying huge pieces of land for their kids and generations more to come… Only in Zambia. RB will soon start selling you people…. Watch this space.
U`r very disingenuous and Yes , Ingenuity of the absurd is what u`r exhibiting, mr. Boot licker @#61. Yr a*s kis**g enabled bliss`s making you rather over the top but take heed, not go over the cliff. You sound more like a hired intractable mercenary.
1.Going by your reasoning, when yr folks maim and plough through a crowd of ppl casuing casualties, that is known to you as tranquility
2.What free market when the nations resources are being siphoned outside at a pittance
3.Real investors have established their bases in Asia. By the way, u just gave yr back to SA and should know better what real investment is
4.China is stocking copper and the moment it needs less or no more the so called inconsequential boom `ll vanish in thin air. Remember our economy is very fragile.
:)>-you pipo before u even say that there is joy among university of namibia students frm zambia.lelo so at 7.30 they are going to the state house, mailo dinner by safari hotel at 7pm.am nt going there cnt look at RB i may end up being arrested more over am writing exams, lelo students are eating tax payers,
MMD CHIEF BOOTLIKER!
I’m afraid we might be arguing with a GHOST in the name of MMD chief boolicker, coz this chap doesn’t sound like a normal human being!! MMD has made alot of scadals especially under the leadership of Kafupi and Rupiah which even dogs are able to note ALAS this desperate and opportunist chief bootlicker, finds gut to be vomiting rubbish on this blog…..interesting. These are the chaps who can’t earn a living in the absence of the mmd so they can say and do anything to earn a living. I do not belong to any political party BUT supporting mmd it’s like one chosing to go where there is no life but rather darkness of death as a result of the combination of ghosts, thieves, opportunists, greedy and selfish individuals!!!
Tax payers money put to good use.
There`s couple of brains on the blog carrying dried up non- firing gray matter and therefore diseased with CRS (can`t reason sh*t). While their world `ll come tumbling before their eyes and end like a plane crush, that of the majority Zedians `ll blossom. To my fellow Zambians, do not let up, we need to cease the opportunity and oust mmd in 2011. These guys have outlived their usefulness. “Behind every dark cloud there`s a silver lining” and” in trying times do not quit trying.”
I am sure even the FAZ officials are all in South Africa, considering their own soccer administration is in a mess. Where is the Tourism Minister, we will need a report on the Tourists who visited Zambia during the world cup, I bet none?
Ba Rupiya mulepwa u lupiya lwachalo mukwendauka aimlesssly
Zambia is the Onlty country that has an AWOL president. We the Zambians in Zambia have to look for his whereabouts each time we wake up. Aaah talema naye Kamwendo munjila.
What do you expect from a Transitional President, nothing but theft.
