Masaiti wants Patrick Mwanawasa for MP

Share

FLASHBACK: Patrick Mwanawasa and his cousin Jonas Shakafuswa arrive for the Chakwela Makumbi traditional ceremony

THE MMD in Masaiti District has resolved to float late president Levy Mwanawasa’s son Patrick as parliamentary candidate for Kafulufuta constituency in the 2011 general elections.

Area MMD chairperson Michael Katambo said since current MP George Mpombo had lost popularity, the party decided to float Patrick as parliamentary candidate for the 2011 elections.

He said in an interview yesterday that the decision was arrived at after several meetings at grass root level where the proposal to float Patrick was supported by the majority.

“We want to uphold the legacy of late president Mwanawasa by floating his son as Kafulafuta MP and because he is a committed member of the party,” Mr Katambo said.

When contacted Mr Mpombo said he did not care, as it was too early for the party to endorse anyone for next year’s elections.

And Patrick said he was interested in Kafulafuta constituency but would only comment if the MMD national executive committee (NEC) or ordinary residents of the area raised the matter.

“I won’t say much until higher authorities say so. I hold the people of Kafulafuta closely and dearly to my heart,” he said.

Mr Katambo said Mr Mpombo had lost favour in the constituency hence the need to replace him with somebody people would accept.

He urged Mr Mpombo to stop telling the people that he single handedly influenced the construction of schools and health institution in the area because the projects were part of government’s nation wide plans to deliver services to the people.

Mr Mpombo held a meeting in Kafulafuta constituency last weekend where he alleged that he had single handedly initiated the development in the area.

“How can he claim to have single handedly influenced the development, it is not true, those are part of government projects being taken countrywide,” Mr Katambo said.

The Government was constructing a high school at Masangano area and upgrading Sankute clinic into a district hospital.

Mr Katambo said the district had also resolved not to vote for Mr Mpombo for any position at the next convention.

But Mr Mpombo said he was the one who initiated the projects by lobbying the Government.

He said he had a meeting in the constituency to explain to the electorate the reason why he resigned as Defence minister and that he was still MMD.

“I had a meeting to explain certain things to the electorate, I told them that l am still MMD and nobody is going to push me. And believe me I did not speak anything ill against president Banda during the meeting,” Mr Mpombo said.

He said he was still popular in the area and he was sure of retaining the seat if he contested.

And the MMD has started holding elections at various party structures as a build up to the national convention that takes place soon after the provincial executive committees.

MMD chairperson for elections Mike Mulongoti said he had directed that all elections for executive committees should take place by 15 July 2010 in all the constituencies that have not held them.

These would be followed by district after which provincial elections that would be addressed by President Rupiah Banda would be held.

He said in a media release in Lusaka yesterday that the elections must be held by next month in a memorandum addressed to all provincial and district chairpersons.

“This serves to inform you that party elections for all the executive committees should be held by 15 July 2010 in all the constituencies that have not held them to date,” Mr Mulongoti said.

The provincial executives have already declared President Banda the sole presidential candidate while other interested members are still allowed to contest the position.

  1. Some people don’t want to talk about legacy. But they want to use names for political mileage. Pat is OK but y are upper mwamba’s uncomfortable with what helped them win in the last election? Legacy!

  2. Another loser throws a hat in the ring of fellow losers. Good luck at raiding the national treasury. Remember trees never grow up to heaven. There is always a ceiling. All you Zambian politicians your days will surely come some day

  3. Let the boy1st finish school. No wonder no development pa zed. Just coz the boy is Mwanawasa’s son is passport 4 MP? Let the boy mature by completing school 1st. His father had law degree from UNZA but him only grade 12 certificate. Let him study 1st. Dont just rush 4 childish and mediocre leaders!!

  4. Pliz not that boy! Son is just a drunkard, ask anybody in Northmead they will attest to this.So what if is Levy’s son.Even the greatest dancer leaves the stage.

  5. he is a drunkard, father out of wedlock, has no education and has no maturity. this is future of Zambian politics? wow, Zambians are stupid indeed.

  6. When Patrick first made his intentions to enter the political arena i suggested that he had not earned the right as his only credentials were that he was the former presidents son and that such tendencies to perpetuate dynasties were inherently undemocratic.

In hindsight, and given the reaction of the MMD who actually may be considering adopting him, i realise that i may have been off the mark. Hindsight is such a luxury!

Anyway, what is my point? We live in a “democratic” country and it is Patricks contitutional right to stand if adopted, and even as an independent if not adopted. It is also his right to be appeased and subsequently used by the MMD before the dump him.

It is also the constitutional right of any electorate dumb enough to vote for Patrick.

  7. Looks like the boy is learning his politics. He is learning to fix positions and has bought approval from Masaiti.
As for his education. Well it is not than important, there a number of brilliant pipo who have not achieved his level of education. He is an ungraduate but has faced problems finishing his law degree and he claims he never wanted to do law, it was imposed by his father

  8. Goodness! here we go again. Just because he is LPM’s son does not mean he has the leadership skills of his late father. When are we ever going to change this kind of politics? Pleeeeeaaase. Someone needs to go to Masaiti and talk some sense. If not, this will be one of the worst political suicide pacts masaiti has ever had.

  9. What is wrong with the Lamba people of Masaiti?

The area deteriorated under Mwanawasa. Ibenga hospital has one Congolese doctor for the entire Masaiti and they want his son to take over?

  10. #8 I dont think being fathered outside wedlock is an issue you can use to discredit a fellow human being. While you are right and I totally agree with you that patrick is a drunkard and immature, I think being born out of wedlock has nothing to do with him and should not be used to assess his ability.

However, I think he is not a kind of a personality you would want for a leader and the boy needs to change and define his life first.

  11. u wonedr what kind of politics we have in masaiti..why do you want to have ur elections b4 the rite time..rb must be eliminated first…

  12. #8 yo comment about patrick being born out of wedlock is cheap! Being born out of wedlock does not make one any less human. Let us judge people on their intellect and what they can contribute to society. Let Patrick show the people what he has to offer because being a Mwanawasa alone is not enough

  13. The stepmother, maureen wants to be president of this country just because she was once a president’s wife and thinks she has experience to rule and now the stepson thinks he can be MP because his father was president. What a circus. Please give us a breaak.

  14. # 8 You should get your facts wright before commenting . Patrick’s mother Anne Ziba was married to Levy Mwanawasa and they divorced , not that it matters wether he was born out of wedlock or whatever

  15. i think some of you people misunderstood #8. he didnt mean that patrick was born out of wedlock but that he has child[ren] outside wedlock. therefore i find your attacks to be unnecessary!
i agree with most of bloggers heres, this boi should not be given chances on a silver plate just because he’s mwanawasa’s boy. but i know the trick. mmd is looking at mpombo and no one is ready to challenge him, hence the idea to bring this kid as they think that people will vote for him based on that he’s levy’s boy.

  16. No.8

I went to school with patrick St john’s College South Africa, he completed his A-levels there,if you saying uneducated, see why its one of the best schools in africa.

  17. Mpombo must be fuming about this, seems that the MMD have out-manoeuvered him. It will be hard for Mpombo to go on and on about the legacy when Mwanawasa’s own son wants to take over his seat.

  18. Its true ive googled and mufana did his A levels there. How many non none A level MPs do we have plenty….maybe actually mufana has even done much more than this let him get into parliament……….viva youths in parliament in 2011 Viva

  19. #19 Philosopher, st Johns may, as you say, be one of the best schools in africa, but ‘A’ levels are not enough to warrant the tag “educated”. They are not tertiery, second, or even third level qualifications. Rather, they are simply a pre-requisite for higher education. I dont say this to take anything away from Patrick, but am merely making the point.

The fact that we are even debating somebody whose only qualification is that his father was head of state goes to show the mediocrity of our political system. We might as well have Mico Chiluba or Helen become MP’s then.

  20. I have always found PF kaponya as intellectually and politically bankrupt to drive a winning discourse. Emotions and insults are symbolic of defeat and self inadequacy. Here you exposed. Patrick Mwanawasa Jr. was born from a legitimate first marriage of late President Mwanawasa. His mother is still comfortably living in a Mwanawasa given Mansion in Olympia park, Lusaka. Patrick’s mum and Mwanawasa just divorced with all court records there. Mama Maureen was Levy’s second and last wife after divorce. Levy embraced all his children not like some of PF kaponyas abondaned by your fathers poor or rich. If you look through Levy’s will at the justice registry, Patrick Junior is one of the beneficiaries of the estates. Now what has his birth from a mother who was later divorced got to do with…

  21. Can’t a son of couples who fall into divorce later in their lived not aspire for public office? Is it unconstitutional for patrick to aspire for constitutional office if so what clause of the laws of zambia is he bleaching? Patrick has a Grade 12 certificate and transfixed on his law degree. What makes Patrick a misfit for Masaiti or indeed constitutional office if Mpombo a mere Grade 12 from Ndola rural school is his opponent for the seat????

  22. No comment. I luv MMD but our country is not a kingdom for families to hang in to power. I know I will get in trouble by expressing my views on Patrick but this is politics. He has the right to stand but on any legacy.

  23. Now even if we had to go by the useless myopia of PF kaponyas that patrick is a wedlock product he should not have any constitution claim to power.

What will the same PF Kaponyas here say of Sunny Ichilema Chitombwa born of a cattle rustler out of wedlock?

What are PF Kaponya saying of Given Rasheed Lubinda born Pakistan merchant in a wedlock to a lenje woman from liteta? The father of Lubinda had his mother from Bangladesh and father Pakistan. he came to Zambia as a trader and fathered Lubinda in wedlock but refused to marry his lenje mother saying it was against their pakistan tradition. Are you saying Rasheed Lubinda should not be in the August House because of his Taliban bad blood in him????

  24. #8 Kelly – You are right. Morals of a leader are priority. If he is fathering children out of wedlock, what does that say about him?

A levels education – What a joke! My 15 year old niece is taking A levels

  25. We will alway respect the constitutional rights of citizens where they are not at variance with laws of the land regardless of their lienage. If they have nothing constitutionally and institutionally against them, let the people stamp freely on the ballot. My contention will always be on the premise of PF kaponyalism that is devoid of legal, constitutional, intellectual, moral or ethic basis. Since when did being a child of a couple that later divorce start making the children illegal to stand for constitutional office?

  26. #27 Does that mean that Sata should not be considered seeing as though he has fathered two children out of wedlock with two sisters?

  27. #26 Senior Citizen what would you do if honrable G Lubinda came after you for the alleged stuff you have written here about his personal roots? I think you went off the topic. The article here is about partrick Mwanawasa and kafulafuta constituency parliamentary seat in Masaiti district for 2011.Not attacking people

  28. Mwiponta Mukabwela,

Mine is not only a dialectic question in response to your lie that Patrick Mwanawasa Jr is a product of a wedlock situation and is unconstitutional illegible for a constitutional office.Don’t you know the mother of Patrick that she was the first wife of Levy or you just want to insult late Mwanawasa that he fornicated with Patrick’s mother?

On Given Rasheed Lubinda, i have to know how old you are to miss out on this one. Rasheed Lubinda is son to a Pakistanese merchant in a wedlock to a lenje woman from liteta? The father of Lubinda’s mother was from Bangladesh and father Pakistan. He came to Zambia as a trader and sired Lubinda in a wedlock but refused to marry his lenje mother saying it was against their Pashtun people tradition.

  29. Given Rasheed Lubinda is ethnically a Pashtuns of Pakistan descent with unconcealed fragrance for talibanism. His incorrigible hatred for the Judea Christianity he calls a religion of infidels is unconcealed. So if you think, in a dialectic answer to your call of patrick a wedlock product though not, is meant to invoke you to investigate on Given Lubinda and see how you are trapped on this.Ask Rasheed Lubinda to tell you who his father is and where he comes from? Ask him if he has ever lived under the same roof with him other than being introduced to some madrassa.

  30. # 30,

The other one is Fred Mmembe. Ask him him if he has any idea about his father. He was born out of wedlock to some Luapuan man in a silozi woman. This is why Mmembe is very chauvinistic to any father figure and that man hatred has seen him turn for comfort to the queer society where he is now a homosexual Gay.

All these examples come to you as a challenge if you are saying those who were unfortunately illegitimately should not have a place in national affairs. But Patrick Mwanawasa Jr was born of a married couple who later divorced legally.Say you what on all these?

  31. What leadership qualities have they seen in Patrick? Just because his father was a better president than RB does not mean Patrick can be a good leader. Is his only quality being Levy’s son?

    but MMD yasila

  32. A levels are not qualifications but just a pre-requisite 4 entry 2 tertiary edu, so let him go 2 college and not run away from sch. This Patrick thing 2 me is just a drunkard, immature, failure in life and an opportunist who just wants to use his father’s name as passport. What has he achieved so far? Nothing. Despite money being available, he doesnt even know how a college/ university class looks like.

  33. BREAKING NEWS

Straight from the toilet Sata entered the Church with pupu in his nails and on the jacket to greet the Chief Justice. Justice Sakala was saved by his natural vigilance and high sense of smell when he started smelling a strong stench as Sata advanced towards him and heavy flies scrambled popu on Sata’s jacket.

  34. Topic: Fred Mmembe:

I need information on Mmembe’s sexual orientation. How true is it that the guy is gay? I have no issues with gay people but just want to know.

  35. “We want to uphold the legacy of late president Mwanawasa by floating his son as Kafulafuta MP and because he is a committed member of the party,” Mr Katambo said.
No wonder UNIP is not going anywhere.

  36. SENIOR CITIZEN ITS TAKES ONE HOMO TO KNOW ANOTHER. LOL . WHO KNOWS MAYBE YOU ARE ALSO A DRAG QUEEN HERE IN THE USA, KEKEKEKEKE

  37. No22. Simon

It’s true there are different levels of education and he has not attained tertiary education yet but it should not mean that he does not have what it takes to run a public office. It is fair to say one should exemplify themselves of the highest standards especially those in public office but surrounded by the right people one can deliver. People with degrees have also failed in office, so what are the qualifications if one is to take office in a young democracy like ours where power is concentrated in only a few hands?Only when given the opportunity can we find out, It is about time the old guards started to let go.

  38. if patrick is smart enough to work himself into a leadership position then let him contest and i would say, great – time for change. i don’t see what post secondary education has to do with becoming a member of parliament. banks and countrys have been run by people with less education than patrick. the zambian parliamentary system is bloated with highly educated people but they still manage to f***k up the country. as for peoples family heritage and orientation – who gives a sh_t?

  39. senior citizen, it is people like you that help zambia degenerate. you are clearly racist and bigotted. being zambian for you is about skin colour. and so you think people born “out of wedlock” or of “mixed race” are less human? you suck!

  40. Patrick was a students at Chengelo School in Mkushi. He completed his Form 5 and went to UK for studies. I do not know if he has now matured but I knew him from Chengelo as a short tempered person who was not identified as having leadership qualities by staff. I say this because whereas I was chosen prefect he was not.
If Patrick wants to serve the people of Masaiti, he should learn to be tolerant, be accommodating to other views and have a big heart (not losing his temper anyhow). I wish him well

  41. So Patrick Jr. is equally as short tempered as his father was; then the man will make a bad leader, but on the other hand the Father performed well inspite the bad temper.

  42. Most zambians are very petty , full of jelousy , and ” PULL HIM DOWN ” Syndrome . No wonder your country is one of the most under developed in Africa . You keep going to South Africa for medical treatment , shopping , Holidays etc .

  43. 32
Can you name one sex partner and have some evidence of this.
Who has Fred Mmembe slept with as if you know the names of his so called lovers then you can have them all put in jail for crimes in Zambia.

Now if you were really being truthful and not just insulting and showed some evidence of names of people who have slept with Fred then sometimes people might take your gutter mind bull as something worth reading.

    You are an insulter.
You do talk about judicial matters before courts.
You do use alias I.D’s daily.
Ba Joze and Kekwe and hundreds more.
You are fake and your mouth is full of fecal matter.

  44. Bootlicker.

You have proven that you speak before you understand.

Keep following Senior Citizen the TROLL and his cadres Veteran and Mwata.

Senior Citizen is one of the biggest liars on Zambian blogs and uses alias names to attack other people.
His copy and paste gang are a bunch of I.mbeciles.

We are waiting for him to retire as promised and move in politics.
But we think he is too old and nobody back home wants him in politics.
He is too dangerous and antagonistic to keep Zambia a safe country or province or even at Senior Citizens level of local council gate keeper.

  45. Patrick Mwanawasa Jr is a political novice with insatiable apetite for power who will end up on the canvas walloping in poverty. This young man`s focus must be on education which will create a foundation for economic emancipation. The MMD is simply trying to use Jr to stop Mpombo from recapturing the Kafulafuta seat.If such efforts prove futile, the young man will be dumped and his livelihood in perile.

  46. Numba 53 .Hahahhaaha U must be sick. How can u attack Ba numba 37 like that.Anyway u are write one can`t use magnifying glasses to smell pupo. :((

  47. :(we are on guard this is our country and will make sure we take care of it. there is no other place for me Zambia is our own lets keep our resources nicely and make sure people don’t misuse our monies……………i m a patriotic Zambian
