Presidential trips critics malicious, says Machungwa

Share

LUAPULA Member of Parliament (PF) Peter Machungwa has said people criticising president Rupiah Banda’s trips abroad are malicious and want to mislead the public.

Dr Machungwa said in an interview yesterday that the presidential State visits had brought benefits to the country because a lot of investors were attracted to Zambia.

Commenting on President Banda’s recent trip to Namibia, Dr Machungwa said yesterday the head of State was a number one public relations manager of the country and should be allowed to visit other countries.

He said even heads of State from developed countries also visited other nations to strengthen bilateral relations as well as create networks for economic development.

Dr Machungwa said it was sad that some opposition political leaders were in the forefront criticising the president when they understood how the Government system operates.

Dr Machungwa said Zambia needed to benefit from the goodwill of other countries for her to develop and reduce poverty.

Commenting on the aid freeze, Dr Machungwa said it was a pity that the opposition political leaders wanted donors to withdraw funding as a way of discrediting the Government.

Dr Machungwa told Zambians to be wary of political statements that are meant to gain political mileage such as expelling the Chinese investors when the world had accepted the Asian country because it was the biggest investor in the world.

The Ba Ushi Cultural Traditional and Development Association on the Copperbelt which echoed similar sentiments however appealed to President Banda to use his diplomatic experience to facilitate twinning of some towns in Zambia with the French and Chinese.

Association president Stephen Chitwa said in a statement yesterday that doing so would enhance development .

  1. Ba Machungwa ubupuba. Since when did he become the defender of RB. he should just resign from PF and test his popularity and see if people will still vote for him
And we are not saying RB shouldn’t take trips abroad at all, what we are saying is that this should only be when its absolutley neccessary

  2. What a shame for a learned person like Dr. Machungwa to behave this way. Despite being a P.H.D holder, the man has resorted to becoming a cadre for MMD and rebelling against the party on whose ticket he is mp. Ba Mudala mwilatu sebanya, act professionally and let your action speak for themselves.

  3. You see education makes no one wise. The only people that see nothing wrong with these trips are bumlickers.

  4. i really wonder why ppl think that rbs visits are benefitting. I know that its mostly a ‘must’ for the countries he visits but definitely not a.. ‘ oh im glad he is coming’…

  5. Whishfull thinking Machungwa; you cannot just depend on other nations to rule yours , I wonder weather you are in opposition or in mmd , without opposition you would have stollen everything in govt coffers , we respect the opposition because they protect the citizens from all the wrong things this govt , would be doing to their people;; eg ,take pay for civilservants for their campains , and delay their paydays the list is endless

  6. If Mr Sata was President, he would not travel to any country. He will be sending his VP HH. Mr Sata cannot express himself adequately among foreign dignitaries. That is why, to reward him for his organisation of MMD, and his support to Chiluba, Chiluba gave him the patronage Ministry without portfolio. He wilbe President without portfolio! (lol)

  7. WHICH WORLD KNOWN PRESIDENT HAS FLOWN AS MUCH AS BANDA?

That Challenger Jet is clocking up some miles.
I do hope it has regular costly services.
Although its resale value has dropped significantly due to heavy weight usage.

Has the president used $35US million worth of plane tickets?
Flying first class on a reputable airline will never rake up so high costs.

I guess Rupiah does not want anybody to see all the shopping bags he collects for his girls back home.
    Gucci and Prada.
This old man puts the Monkey to shame.
