Is the Italian Job coming to a Zambia national team bench near you?
According to reports in Wednesdays Post, an unnamed Italian-born coach is in the country for talks on taking charge of the team.
Zambia has been without a permanent coach since Frenchman Herve Renard quit in April to take up a lucrative offer with western neighbor Angola.
The coach is said to have arrived in the country on Monday and held talks with both government and Faz officials on Tuesday and also met president Rupiah Banda.
okay nice to hear such developments ba LT
This is good news.i wish u could ve posted his c.v.
Soundz good. But iz there need to involve the prezident?
ilyashi lyamubwala. :)>- doesn’t sound like news to me.
The Italian Job, It’s a comedy being re-visited. We so obsessed witha foreign coach from Europe such that we are blinded. Let us get Keshi or even the Nigerian Man, these are Africans that qualified or have qualified an African Team to the Worldcup. Countrymen, look at the world cup, all European and Brazilian coaches except for Ghana had their star studded teams knocked out. aah the Italins did not even do well as well so thatcoach who is he???
I still think we should hire a local coach
Better to lose with a local coach than lose matches together with huge sums of money on underperforming foriegn coaches
i concur with #4. it sounds like a story made up by some football fans who watch soccer while taking tujilijili. #5 and #6 you 100% right. we have wasted enough already on the so called foreign coaches. paying them huge sums of money that does bring back anything. to hell with football, lets try something else.
I hope its not Capello because he is just about to be sucked by England!
It is not the cv or previous successes of a coach which makes a team win. It is the quality and skills of players that a particular coach coincides with that matters. South Africa,Nigeria,Ivory Coast,England, Name them;all have highly regarded and qualified coaches at world level. But their teams faired pretty badly at the current world cup .I think what we need is an intelligent person liike paulsen [spelling] who can identify talent even from rural areas and bring those talents to towns under the auspices of government.;the government to keep and feed and even school theidentified chaps in homes run by GRZ.That is how we can develop talents in Zambia. This time we must try to engage a person from Brazil the most successful nation in football. Or we bring back Oaulsen from Denmmark.
# 8. Very funny eehh, i dont think we can afford him though!
The problem with FAZ and Most of the Zambian soccer fans is that we tend to think that once we hire a foreign coach then we are assured of success, the fact is that its not automatic and we really have got a lot to do for us to even think of winning the AFCON and qualify for the 2014 World cup, to start with let the Ndola Stadium be finished then we see how we can pick it up from there.
#9 While I agree with your first two sentences, If you look at the failure of foreign coaches with African teams at the World Cup you first need to ask yourself how long did those coaches stay with their teams? They were all hired months before the World Cup. No coach can wave a magic wand and have a winning team in months. Most of the time you need years with a team to mould a succesful side. Here the main fault was with football adminstrators in the countries you have cited. They not only must understand football but need to be mature too. FAZ need to start preparing for the 2014 World yesterday
It’s no big deal even if we hire a coach from Swaziland, Zaire, Serbia or indeed Brazil; the catch-word iz to put our FAZ in order and everything will follow suit. I still don’t see the need for whoever aspirez to be coach to make State House a lay by.
We had a French coach and he failed us, now we think an Italian coach can perform miracles for us, i think no! We have no developmental plan for our soccer and we think a coach will come and trained the untrained adults. If we need an expertriate coach then we need to engage him at under 15 level not the senior level. look at Ghana they have a very good junior team that has helped them at senior level.
This story is actually real. Its not a made-up story. The Italian coach’s name is Dario Bonetti. He had a great playing career lasting about 15 yes in Serie A having palyed for Brescia, AC Milan, Roma and Juventus. His coaching career is not that great though with the pinacle being coach of Scottish club Dundee and Dinamo Bucharest of Romania. In between , he has been coach of lower division Italian teams and has coached in Hungary. As for the Zambian job, i think he can do the job. Ofcourse we can not afford a high profile coach as a country but a coach looking to improve his CV. Unfortunately thats reality.
Iyee mwebantu!
Ati musungu, chapwa twawina!
Iyeeee! Chipolopolooo!
Iyee mwebantu, ukupunama pa Zed!
this is really bad news. these pple make money then they go back with the pockets fat and zambia is no way near the world cup. Why shud the govt pay so much for nothing. the money can be used for other developments in the country pls. get a local coach train him and let him coach the national team at a reasonable price. believe me you its bad for zambia, these guys are clever. They are making money of africa, since when did any african team win world cup. but we have have several experts from europe and other places. WAKE UP
I agree with # 2.If you could just post the cv of this man so that zambians know the pedigree of the man they are employing as national coach. We dont need other physical trainer as coach who would want to enrich his cv at the expense of zambians.
Why did they call Msiska then? When are we gonna grow up as a continent? Please give the job to a Zambian we wont do any worse than what we’ve done thus far. How many bazungus have hired before and what have we achieved? Zero. Please the bloody job to Msiska, Lwandamina or anyone else so long as he’s Zambian. Look at the English they hired Capello for £6million per annum and rested all hopes on him as though he’s a magician but got a reality check. Inferiority complex at FAZ thats why some of them only marry white birds
I wondered where F Capello was going after messing up Englands chances
Why meeting even the president ? We shouldn`t be surprised to hear that he is actually a Chinese coach with some image building abilities aswell. 😕
The greatest football ever played by zambia was under a local/zambian coach!! ’88 and the gabon crash team.( may God bless their souls).
Give it to Musika!
This Kalusha’s mentality of wanting white Europeans as coaches. That is why he is just interested in white women too, he thinks Zambian people are foolish. England has tried the Italian they have performed very badly at the world cup. Let us give coaching jobs to Zambians. Ucar Godfrey Chitalu would have made Europeans dance had he not died early, that team was well tutored by a Zambian.
what about sony ericsson. i am sure cote d’ivoire dont need him.
Give the job to a Zambian–Lucky Msiska will do a great job. Let him be assisted by Lwandamina.
Afwile ukwishiba ichibemba nangu ichinyanja first otherwise worst of time.Look at Capello for England dismally failed because he cannot speak English screaming at players in latin on touchline who cannot understand.True Stephen Keshi was a better option or Shaibu.Make sure the Italian coach speaks English please we do not want the England experience.
All this nonsense of expatriate coach just make me sick? How many of these useless GOLD DIGGERS are we going to employ as coach at very huge expense but with little output? We have already lost huge sums of money thru these white chaps but they have totally failed 2 qualify Zambia even once 2 world cup. This idea of muzungu coach will only benefit Kalusha as he will have a portion from the coach’s salary, period!! Learn 2 invest & develop yo own local coaches u *****s & ****in bloody Kalusha & FAZ !!
:(( Its hurting to us.
Am no longer proud 2 be Zambian anymore with all this nonsense of bringing a failure from Italy with no track record coming with a batch of 3 assistants and demanding all the little resources this poor country
has. Surely corruption at work again. We dont need these GOLD DIGGERS as they have failed lamentably even at this world cup. Zambians work-up before these dogs Kalusha and his corrupt friend R.B loot this already poverty stricken country of its remaining little resources. A local coach is enough!!
