Former Defense Minister, George Mpombo, has charged that President Rupiah Banda is’Adventurous as a Marcopolo bus’.
And Mr. Mpombo has accused President Banda of going to South Africa to watch last night’s FIFA World Cup Final game between Netherlands and Spain in the pretext that he is going to Turkey.
Mr Mpombo, who is also Kafulafuta MMD Member of Parliament (MP) said President Banda is so arrogant that he delights in pleasure instead of getting down to the ground to solve issues in the country.
He said the President is in State house just to fill the vacancy for Presidency that was caused by the death of late President, Levy Mwanawasa.
The Kafulafuta MP argued that the country could not afford to have in State House a president of Mr. Banda’s calibre because the country will fail to make any progress.
He alleged that the failure by President Banda to adhere to his advisors’ advice is a sign that the country has a dictator in State House instead of a servant.
Mr Mpombo said Turkey has nothing to offer Zambia in economic terms because the country has a struggling economy.
He said Turkey is depending on inflows such as aid from well to do countries.
He added that it is disgusting to learn that the country has a man in State House who is unable to use his judgment before taking any trip outside the country.
President Rupiah Banda yesterday left for Turkey via South Africa.
[ QFM ]
So what IS the issue Mr Mpombo sir?
To Turkey via South Africa??? It is good RB is now using public Flights, this is a good development. So from Lusaka he made his Flight connections in Johannesburg. Did he use South African Airways?
May the challenger jet just crash !
I still dont see the analogy to a Marcopolo bus!! Mpombo Naena, Awe Kwena! He has a funny vocabulary.
Ok but RB Achilamo ama trips:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?
Mpombo said “Marco Pollo” for those of you who failed history that’s a european exprorer (adventuror) NOTa BUS!
If RB is a MarcoPolo Bus,then who is Mpombo?INFA truck!
Mpombo said “Marco Pollo”. For those of you who failed history, that’s a european explorer (adventuror) NOTa BUS!
Mpombo cut your chi-dirty beard…or atleast trim it nicely.we know pipo like Criticles Mwansa(ZRA) who have big but clean vindevu !
#6 you failed reading ka?read the article again. “George Mpombo, has charged that President Rupiah Banda is’Adventurous as a Marcopolo bus’.
@vj Those are inverted commas not quotation marks which indicate the words were recorded verbertim. Check the post for the actaul words used.(with quotation marks not inverted commas).
Mpombo please Google CIA Turkey Economic overview and stop talking all this crap about turkish economy.
# 1 are saying u cant use yo common sense & see what Mpombo is trying 2 put across. Anyway the issue is that this old man R.B moves aimlessly around the world like a headless chicken. His tours do not add any value to the country other than allowing him to be holiday. Its like he wants to see every thing in the world before he dies since he is now too old. Soon we will hear RB is visiting the moon.
its true..he’s even more than a marcopolo…we need a leader that will get to our compounds unannounced ..Levy and KK we miss you..the rest rubbish..
# 11, the story is from QFM,why should I check the Post?are you insinuating that QFM is not credible?
Childish pratter from the politically insane Mpombo. As for number 13, I don’t think if RB is moving aimlessly like a headless chicken then he is’Adventurous as a Marcopolo bus’.I just can’t see the sense in Mpombo’s rantings. As for his “Turkey has nothing to offer Zambia in economic terms because the country has a struggling economy”.. I find it a very strange statement coming from someone who thinks he has something to offer knowing he just bounced a cheque!!!
brazilian presido was here now rb is in turkey ba mbombo ama jealousy if you were president you wud only get an invitation from kabila. rb is able to travel bcos he is acceptable. rb is humane and easily marketable mbombo waba amashinsha in your pants
Turkey is an emerging market, Mr Mpombo go revisit your economics.
Mpombo should not look to be clever because we all know that he was the architect of the ‘Family Tree’ under Levy. He facilitated the appointments of Lambas/ Lenjes into key positions during Levy’s era. Whether you speak in good English, we shall never repaeat the mistake of voting for a Lamba again because they are too nepotistic. This is the’ legacy’ Namulambe has been yapping about.
Leave the Lambas and Lejes alone, at least they are not thieves. When in office they move the country forward. So MMD stop being racists. RB is working with Chiluba to bankrupt the country before he leaves office in 2011. RB knows he does not stand a chance come 2011, so he is saying goodbye to all countries.
Is Mpombo’s only source of income condemning the president in the POST? He should not show his ignorance. Turkey is a regional power and a strategic alliance with Turkey will be good for Zambia. If he opened his eyes before his mouth, he would see what RB is doing is trying to forge relationships with emerging regional powers. That is why the Brazilian president was in Lusaka last week. RB is not travelling willy nilly. I find it hard to believe that a former defence minister does not realise the strategic importance of a country that is both in Europe and Asia and has been a strong NATO ally in the fight against terrorism.
Mpombo ukulandalanda, atleast Banda is lucky he saw Iniesta’s goal.
finshi waishiba iwe mpombo wibilama? what do u want in life?u don’t even have logic shameless mpompo wibilama
RB is a humble president, Mpombo is just missing the old good times in Levy’s reign. But then he should learn to accept that nothing lasts forever, come 2011 he wont even have a constituency to talk about. Even the bible says that there is time for everything. Personally, am tired of Mpombo’s rantings!
@VJ exactly the point. QFM did not quote the exact words of Mbombo. How can a bus be adventurous? He was making reference to the explorer Marco pollo from whom the bus was named after.
IS THIS MPOMBO THE MAN WHO WAS BEATEN BY THAT MONKEY IN LIVINGSTONE? IF SO PLEASE EXAMINE THAT MONEY FOR RABIES OR VERBAL DIARRHEA.
I really like the photo of Mpombo kneeling down at Mwanawasa’s feet. I wish LT could use that photo again.
Turkey? What emerging Market? Please spare us your poor economics,Turkey is a country struggling with nothing to offer to Zambia.
Alaa-Bee is just is tourist period.Just in 6 weeks he has travelled more than 4 times
This Mpombo is becoming and behaving like a real IMPOMBO. He is debasing Zambian politics!
Wanzelu, Munthu wanzelu aganiza akalibe kulemba.
Do some basic googling and find out about turkish economy “Turkey is one of the largest sources of foreign direct investment in central and eastern Europe and the CIS, with more than $1.5 billion invested in these countries. 32% has been invested in Russia, primarily in the natural resources and construction sector, and 46% in Turkey’s Black Sea neighbours, Bulgaria and Romania. Turkish companies also have sizable FDI stocks in Poland, at about $100 million” Google.
Number 6 you are right, even our own media could not just figure that out imagine.
The man is an adventurer even like Galileo.
ill start tabulating bandas trips for you guys now.
1. turkey
Istanbul here we come!
For Mr Mpombo’s sake here is what is found on google about Turkey’s economy:-
“Turkey is a dynamic emerging market equipped with a network of developed infrastructure and a globally competitive work force. Its unique position at the crossroads of the world trade routes and its proximity to the developing energy producing regions in the Caspian and Central Asia are factors that further raise its potential for the coming years.
Turkey’s civilian labor force is 24.3 million people as of end of 2004. Agricultural sector still employs around 1/3 of the labor force although share of agriculture in GNP is just above 10%. Nearly half of the employed are in the services sector and the ratio employed in the industrial sector is 18%.The unemployment rate of the country is around 9.7%”
mpombo tell us something we dont know. we know that RB is spoiled goods. but that does not make mpombo, sata and all those that critisize him the alternatives. for various reasons mpombo is overating himself to imagine that he is fit for presidency even under these circumstances where choice for quality leadership is so limited. convice me otherwise.
The issue here is the traveling by RB. imagine David Cameron doing the-RB, he will be forced to resign. Now in Zambia, there are no pressure groups to condemn such useless travels. RB is looking for some more dirty cash from Turkey so that they can come and join the on-going exploitation of Zambians-because-they-are-so-thick!!
Ok Rupiah achita over mwee!
imwe mulekeni nyama soya…..nishi ama jealous:d
I think these trips of his have become a source of nuisance and embarrassment to this country. One honestly wonders whether this man knows any levels of gutlessness.
# 24 so you are saying the Post quoted him correctly?and not QFM? and who said whatever the post says is Gospel truth?
@vj there is a diference between direct speech & reported speech. What I’m saying is that the post quoted Mbombo verbatim(word-for-word) while QFM quoted him using reported speech thereby, changing the actuall words spoken & hence the change in meaning. Is that hard to understand?
Ba mpombo has a point: ba RB ukuseya kwachilamo and bu chendeyende is provoking suspicions. kanshi limbi nga bali abanakashi limbi ama shiwi yamusalula could be posted here.
Turkey: it is a country that is working to forge relationships with many countries, trying to work hard to overtake Iran in its quest to win support of its Nuclear program. Turkey can help Zambia, but I am not sure how far that can happen under the current Islamic regime. I wish the Atatürk militarist of the past regime had forged relationships with many African countries. Anyway, ba Mponbo you have no point about the economy of Turkey: I demand you resign for displaying such ubutuntu in the 21st century. Mwalapena na PhD aya mwambile.
Rupiah bwezani marcopolo banda is a globetrotter who wants to circle the globe before the elections next year. Mpombo has a point, RB is always using taxpayers money flying all over the world. Its about time he spent just a month home to see our problems
Right criticism from a wrong critic.
RB needs to take this criticism positively and seriously for change regardless of the mouth its coming out of.
Why has Mpombo become so popular now ?
Imwe mwe bantu listen: RB wants to visit all the good places he dreams of before he looses next elections…but nangu tapasoswa, this trips yachita over mwe bantu… NALEKA!!!
Wanzelu you are in the states and you do not know how Turkey is doing Economically? Please Guys check some facts before posting your comments.Internet is a source of information.
all you chaps supporting mpombo’s statement should go back to school and learn proper economics. Turkey is the most important muslim nation and is a member of NATO. It also has a free trade agreement with EU. It is also Israels biggest ally in the muslim world and thats why Israel right now is begging turkey after the gaza flotilla incident. Turkey’s economy is growing at the fastest rate within the region and it is important crossing point between europe, asia and middle east. US forces use turkeyish air bases to ytransport military equipement to Iraq and it is also a key country in the fight against terrorism. for turkey to invite our president they see zambia as a stable and goosd partner. its a plus for RB and for zambia as many turks want to do n=business in africa n use zed as a…
for people to listen kuli ichipuwa ga mpombo boggles the mind!!! this is what independent observers say:
“Turkey’s increasing strategic importance in the wake of September 11 terror attacks on Washington and New York. Traditionally, Turkey has been considered an important country because of its geographic location between Europe, the Middle East and Asia, which gives it easy access to strategically important regions and major energy resources. Moreover, thanks to its character as a modern Muslim country, culturally, Turkey stands as a bridge between Western and Islamic civilizations. The conventional importance attributed to Turkey’s strategic value became more visible following the events of September 11, and consequently Turkey has come under the spotlight. As a result, Turkey and…
“Turkey is situated in a critical geographic position on and around which continuous and multidimensional power struggles with a potential to affect balance of power at world scale take place. The arcs that could be used by world powers in all sort of conflicts pass through Turkey. Turkish territory, airspace and seas are not only a necessary element to any force projection in the regions stretching from Europe and Asia to the Middle East, Persian Gulf, and Africa, but also make it possible to control its neighborhood… All these features made Turkey a center that must be controlled and acquired by those aspiring to be world powers… In the new process, Turkey’s importance has increased in American calculations. With a consistent policy, Turkey could capitalize on this. LEARN TO…
LEARN TO READ YOU PACT KAPONYA’S WHO JUST DONT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT ZAMBIA
mpombo is the most stupid and dull politician, why attack the president over such issues?unless man
Is travelling far and wide in the Zambian president job description?I can’t just understand this. Please someone educate me on this.
I told u so……….you comments are highly appreciated, but it is important to emphasis one of your point which is actually behind Turkey’s move to consolidate its relationship with African countries. It is all in the dynamics of the internal politics of Turkey. You must understand that there has been a shift in the powers inside Turkey. Turkey is slowly moving away from Ataturk secularism it has enjoyed under the military rule, and will soon become more islamic. If you talk to Iranians, they will tell you taht the politics of Turkey now are like those of Iran 20 years ago. …….ok. Iran has been doing teh same thing, forging relationships with SS African countries, but those with a lot of Muslems (good eg Senegal). Turkey wants to become a ME Islamic power…(why befriend Isreal)
Seems there is still plenty of stuff worth selling in Zambia. The rate at which signatures are being appended to documents has become too regular. I hope it is all for the good of Zambia my beloved counytry. God Bless Zambia and relieve us of all thieving leaders and the cronies. By the way, where is Jeff Kaande – last time he was in the news he had added a few zeros to a bill for stuff he supplied to the government and DEC left him alone.
With the shift in the powers of Turkey, it is not clear wether Turkey will continue to be a good ally of America. Already, there have been reported instances of America being denied to use Turkey to launch its operation in Iraq…The game is on…. They maybe a possibility of America aligning itself with the Kurds in Eastern Turkey…Turkey helping Zambia: I agree it has capability and there is a lot we can learn from them. I fully support Banda’s visit on those grounds, but I want to think that the strategic military position of Turkey is not of any relevance to Zambia. I think Turkey also wants to compete with India and Chine for Africa…….Turkey does not have any hive of terrorist cells… It was not possible given the well desciplined and organised Turkish military…Good luck…
A Marco Polo bus is named after an Italian who was born around 1254 and became famous for his travels through Asia. He was one of the first Europeans to travel into Mongolia and China. He became famous for his book that told the story of his travels along the Silk Road to China. He was gone for 24 years travelling. And to me that is the connection wihich is quite apt.
i think we are missing out mpombo’s point,,all hes saying is,rb is ever travelling like a marcopolo bus, within a space of one month hes been to not less than 7 countries.namibia, congo dr,south africa twice, turkey and that’s just a month, surely guys you a want a president who never wants to address serious issues at home
xioto turkey is a member of NATO and the military in turkey is 150% against islamic fundamentalism. USA and Turkey are key allies. Turkey has a peace deal with Israel and it has a large population of turkish jews. the current situation is that they are getting close to iran for strategic reasons and are passing on intel to the USA. zambia is a country recognised and respected worldwide for its peace and its efficient security network. we are also home to large reserves of uranium, oil and gas soon to be exploited. we are a key nation in africa and most african countries respect us from the legacy of KK in which RB was a major part of as foreign affairs minister and special foreign intel operative. so most of these leading guys around the world are his friends
#19 Thats being foolish, at least Lambas and Lenjes are not thieves and dont support thieves.
Most of you pretending to know jack about economics don’t know squat. Leave economics to Economists.
It is tough to be president of a country like Zambia. We do not have local entrepreneurs with cash to develop the vast natural resources that the country is endowed with. We must attract Foreign Direct Investment as much as we can, develop our local entrepreneurs to run businesses with their foreign counterparts. It is a gradual process and we need to make a start now. I therefore see nothing with RB’s foreign trips, except the one to Swaziland. All need all the support we can get. There are still opportunities in mining, agriculture, tourism and possibly exploration in oil and gas. People like Mpombo should be encouraged to continue talking, we make pick up one thing from them one day. Debate should be encouraged if our democracy is to develop.
if RB could only send the chipolopolo boys for tours around the world for friendlies against these countries may we could reach the semi finals in the 2014 wc, if he could send the technicians and engineers and technicians maybe we could build better roads, if he could send other people as well then maybe we could ……
