A man who raped a woman when he had advanced AIDS pleaded guilty Thursday in the middle of his trial, just as Dallas County prosecutors were wrapping up their case against him.
Nathaniel Tumbwe – who refers to himself as a doctor, a reverend and a Zambian prince – also pleaded guilty to a pending case for transmitting HIV to another woman during consensual sex while in a relationship.
Tumbwe, 47, also gave the virus to another woman, prosecutors said. None of the women knew he was HIV-positive when they had sex with him.
Tumbwe and prosecutors agreed to a 15-year sentence on each charge, with the terms to be served concurrently. He will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentence. Authorities will deport Tumbwe to Zambia when he is released.
Carolyn Hudson, 60, the woman Tumbwe raped, said in an interview after the trial that she agreed to the plea deal because he admitted his guilt in both cases, and because the other women were reluctant to testify if the trial reached the punishment phase.
“It sounded good,” Hudson said about the plea deal. “I knew that the other women did not want to testify even though they would have.”
Hudson said she hasn’t met the other women, who also approved of the deal.
“I would like to,” she said. “I would like to pray with her.”
The Dallas Morning News does not typically name victims of sex crimes, but Hudson asked that her name be published because she wants to show that she is not ashamed of what happened and wants to represent all his victims.
Hudson has not tested positive for HIV. She must be tested once a year for 10 years.
Tumbwe sexually assaulted Hudson in October 2008 at her Cedar Hill home when she invited him to dinner to discuss a ministry he wanted to begin. He had repeatedly asked her to marry him and for sex, but she had declined multiple times.
Hudson testified that she had been celibate in the 12 years since her divorce until the sexual assault. Hudson and Tumbwe were two of about 600 elders at Potter’s House, the megachurch in Dallas.
Tumbwe had faced up to 20 years in prison on the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for raping Hudson. He could have been sentenced to life in prison on the other charge, aggravated assault that caused serious bodily injury.
Prosecutors Josh Healy and Kate Pfeifle said the deadly weapon was Tumbwe’s penis and bodily fluid containing HIV.
Before Tumbwe pleaded guilty, he tried to persuade State District Judge Andy Chatham not to require him to verbally agree that he was pleading guilty.
“I can just lift up my hand,” he said to his defense attorneys, Michael Levin and Omar Nawaz. He also objected to a news camera recording his guilty plea.
Tumbwe’s reasoning? “I’m a prince in the country where I grew up,” he claimed. “Because of my royalty.”
But Chatham said Tumbwe had to answer verbally, and he allowed the camera in the courtroom.
“I’m not going to fudge it and say ‘close enough,’ ” the judge said.
Tumbwe eventually agreed to speak.
“Yes, your honor,” Tumbwe responded when Chatham asked if Tumbwe’s guilty plea was made freely.
After Tumbwe pleaded, Hudson took the witness stand to address Tumbwe in a victim impact statement. She wrote down what she wanted to tell him in advance, but ended up speaking without looking at her notebook.
“Mr. Tumbwe, not Rev. Dr. Tumbwe, not Rev. Dr. Prince Tumbwe,” she began. “Nathaniel Tumbwe, how dare you think you can take advantage of a woman, especially a Christian woman?”
Hudson repeatedly asked “how dare you?” and her voice grew louder and she spoke.
“You caused me considerable damage and pain,” she said. “Every Sunday, it’s in my mind. You caused me to question the church and the faith community.

Why I have thought of bringing this to your attention? I’m a young believer in the kingdom hardly 4 years old when I gave my life to Christ having arrived here in the States 5 years ago. Their deliverance ministry is not of God (i.e sexual performing ritual he does).
Recently in Dallas a friend of mine young in faith found himself in trouble with the law. Bishop Alidor Longwa helped him with a jail bond. In exchange, Longwa asked the wife for sex calling it a deliverance process by the Bishop himself. Interesting enough, that week I visited their Church in the city of Irving, Texas. Out of self condemnation the lady went on the pulpit got the mic and before the church announced that the Bishop had sexually abused her. When pressed hard by the leadership, the Bishop accepted that this time he just went overboard with his deliverance ministry.
A follow up with many single ladies he has been closer to has exposed that Bishop Longwa and his wife Glenda actually are in deep Satanism. They cheat single Zambian girls that they would deliver them from the curse of not getting married. They seduce these desperate girls to turn in their underwear for prayers, reveal everything about their lives then ask them to undergo a deliverance process sexually. The process involves inserting salt water and oil on the womanhood followed by the Bishop doing an actual intercourse job in their living room. After this, they are told the curse has been broken and a husband is on the way.
Today a list of victims to this seduction is accumulating and calls for legal recourse are growing to. Nathaaniel Tumbwe is a bonafide Zambian citizen born and raised in Zambia. He is a Chikunda by tribe from Malambo in the valley. FYI he had started his own political party in 1998 though in 1996 as an independent candidate he challenged late Major NgwaWezi Kaunda for the Malambo seat to no avail. The same year he visited the USA where he married a black American lady leaving behind 2 wifes and several children at home. Actually his American wife even visited Zambia later on. Zambia’s needs to change its laws on wilful transmission of HIV. As we seen in the USA its a criminal offence to wilfully transmit such a dangerous disease. All this stuff is such a same. I read the Tumbwe story which is VERY sad as he as really damaged people’s lives. His own family will never hear the end of this. Those lives he has affected will remain affected for life. He will never have peace. As far as him being Zambian. He is. I personally know the man. He is from the Eastern Province of Zambian. He was busy fighting for Chieftainship not too long ago. As far as the Bishop Longwa, he recently admitted having an affair with a member of the congregation. That tells you the man is not clear cut. You just have to pray for such people. His church has raised a lot of controversy and as a result has failed to grow as a church. From a personal experience at that church, I would not recommend anyone to go there. Its such a shame to Zambians.

# 86 Prof. Eureka…….whats your point? The notion of religion/belief what ever you may or decide to call it is purely based on choice. Disecting religion as seen clearly highlights your strong opinion about the subject though not entirely under discussion in relation to the article. People have choices…some choose to believe, others have been traped through cultural norms and others have opted not to fit into either i.e. if you decide to categorise them based on your well researched analysis……and others choose to question what are people do, why they believe in this or that. From what I have gathered, what people are saying about Bishop Longwa and his wife Glenda Chinemba could be true. They have both disappeared from facebook where they were proudly displaying their photos. Tell me folks, is Bishop Longwa Glenda Chinemba’s first husband or second because I remember in Zambia she was always in court with her husband trying to resolve marital problems. Veteran, In Malambo Valley there are no chikundas I think all you are talking about is lies. you just have a grudge for against the chikundas. I think even pa zed they should introduce the type of sentence that has been given to Tumbwe because people pa zed do not take HIV seriously. It is high time our courts start sentencing such pipo.
