UPND MPs back pact with MMD

Share

UPND supporters wave at their leader Hakainde Hichilema at Lusaka international airport

THREE members of Parliament (MPs) from the United Party for National Development (UPND) have backed calls by their Namwala counterpart Robbie Chizyhuka that the opposition party should work and support President Rupiah Banda for the 2011 general elections.

Former secretary to the treasury David Diangamo has said the people of Southern Province are tired to be in the opposition and that the best option for the UPND is for them to work with the ruling party.

The trio, however, said the UPND’s support for President Banda would be on the “strict understanding” that the MMD also supports Hakainde Hichilema as presidential candidate in the 2016 general elections.

The MPs who sought anonymity for fear of victimisation said yesterday in separate interviews it was clear the pact with the Patriotic Front (PF) was not feasible.

“We are better off working with Mr Rupiah Banda, I think he is a little trustworthy than Mr Sata,” said one of the MPs.

But UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said two weeks ago, there was a rumour that some MPs from the party wanted to work with the MMD.

Mr Kakoma said, based on that rumour, a meeting was called where the MPs were asked if they were in support of the idea but none of them agreed to it.

He said it was after the consultative meeting that Mr Hichilema called for a meeting dismissing the rumour and re-affirming the party’s commitment to the PF-UPND Pact.

“We shall be burying our heads in the sand if we close our eyes to the realities on the ground. As a party we must learn a lesson from how Mr Sata treated Mr Sikota (United Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota) in the loose alliance they had in 2006,” said one of the MP.

“To be honest it seems like we have been the ones really too interested in the pact with the PF. The recent statements especially in The Post are testaments to this fact. In fact, the manifestos of the two parties are not too wide apart,” he added.

The MPs have since advised Mr Hichilema to seriously reflect and consider the proposals being made for the party to work with the MMD.

“Yes there may be some deficiencies in the MMD but I’m sure these are things that can be dealt with,” said the MP.

And in a separate interview Mr Diangamo said the MMD/UPND pact was the only option for the opposition party.

“If they want to remain meaningful and relevant to the political process the only thing for them to do will be to work with the MMD,” he said.

  1. Who is Diangamo in UPND. Only those mps who have no principle and are desperate can think of a pact with MMD. I may agree to some extent to what some mps are saying about sata and it’s normal for conservatives people to look at a person’s past and learn something from it, but on principle I would recommend the upnd to remain on their own as a party. Yes I know Sata’s mouth is not good but if upnd have seen some positives in him well and good they can stay, the ball is in their hands. The past always haunts in life thats why we have to control our lips.

  2. Implosion of the Pact continues.Even Kakoma know that some of UPND MP are not happy with Pact, interesting. No wonder they have no option but delay the announcement of the candidate cos that will mark the genesis of major defections and resignations from either party.

  3. Times of Zambia [-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x[-x Diangamo should be doing time in jail. The people of Namwala rejected him, where is he drawing that nonsense.

  4. OMG! This is delusional. How on earth would criminal and murderous MMD support UPND in 2016 as if they would like it? This Diangamo is simply in some high state. Ati “the people of Southern Province are tired to be in the opposition”? Did he ever stop to think that supporting MMD will still make them the opposition STILL? The best chance for UPND is PF then they will have a chance of determining the future of the country. Not with a party blatantly supporting corruption personified in the name of chiluba.

  5. How much did the MMD guys pay them????? no normal person would like to be in MMD right now those who are there are really getting good money to talk and do rubbish

  6. The best chance for UPND to be in Govt., in 2011 & 2016 is through a PACT with PF. Not them joining MMD. It’s their choice but not a good one to work with MMD. MMD is going out, hence it’s fighting tooth and nail to go into a PACT with a party they can gurantee a win. MMD is fighting for survival and top leaders to avoid Jail, the Opposition must watch this. Let no serious minded & big party (UPND & PF) join MMD. Only small one man/lady parties like ba FiDiDi (FDD) join MMD, if they wish but result will be drowing together with MMD in 2011.

  7. UPND cannot afford to drop their guards cause of a confused few that have been bought. There is no way MMD can support HH in 2016 when they are the ones ruling. Wishful thinking. Such an agreement can only work where you are in opposition and agree to hand over to each other. George Kunda cannot allow to be sidelined in 2016 cause currently he thinks he is positioning himself to take over. Well interesting chapter unfolding.

  8. power hungry diangamo whoever you are,ati the people of southern province are tired of being in the opposition.honestly is is about which part of zambia rulesthe country ot it is about getting leaders that have the peoples interest at heart.it doesnt matter which part of zambia they are from. some people think before they open their mouths.
if upnd joins upnd then they will be doomed

  9. power hungry diangamo whoever you are,ati the people of southern province are tired of being in the opposition.honestly is is about which part of zambia rulesthe country ot it is about getting leaders that have the peoples interest at heart.it doesnt matter which part of zambia they are from. some people think before they open their mouths.
if upnd joins upnd then they will be doomed

  11. It seems MMD will go to any length. Paying dissident MP’s(chizyuka & Machungwa who were expelled but under court/mmd protection), pulling fake propaganda stories, sponsoring new PACTs of smaller parties, and even lobbying for PACT with UPND. All this vile and venom must mean UPND-PF are definately on the money. What makes me laugh is MMD failing to even get their political reasoning straight. One minute they try to convince everyone that PACTs in general don’t work and that they’ll crush the PACT but at the same time are lobbying for a PACT with UPND. Flip Floppers get your story straight. Zambia is ushering in a new team. There are at least 4 million capable Zambian minds who we should give a chnace to as well. Why should we keep u when u’ve already had 20 yrs?

  12. When I saw the title, I thought it was the entire UPND. Thank you God it is just 3 useless MPs + a rotten plunderer. PF has got more rebels but have still managed to remain foccussed. Iam sure UPND is not different

  13. And where is David Matongo,Hachipuka etc in all this PF Pact nonsense? These intellectual dynamos have sensed that there is nothing for the UPND in this pact, and hence their low profile in all this.

  14. who told those liar (MPs ) that we are tired of the opposition and we want to support the rulling party? Who gave the right to Diangamo to speek on behalf of the southern province people. let that MP who sees the PF -UPND Pact not to be feasable to leave the pact and join the rulling party. those MPs who refused to disclose their names are liars and they dont know what they are doing because if they were honest on what they are saying they could have come out in open to tell the truth.. its true these mps have been bought to talk rubbish.:d

  15. This is the nature of Zed politics… no principle. U go in the pact and then the next u jumping out without achieving why the pact was formed in the first place. HH and Co are now looking desparate… All these guys UNDP MPs who are talikng are geting instructions from HH.

  16. HH now has a chance to get ex[perience on how government works, thru the MMD. Any other way it will never happen. SATA is going nowhere himself, so were can he take HH? Ask Sakwiba Sikota, SATA will always be a snake.

  17. This shows that MMD is likely to win next year. If UPND choose to remain in pact with PF and Sata is chosen as the presidential candidate, then the likelihood of Southern province voting for MMD increases. I dont see Western and North-Western province voting for Sata either. In fact it might be in MMD’s interest for Sata to be chosen as the pact presidential candidate because the man is loathed, feared and not trusted by a sizeable proportion of the electorate.

  18. THIS IS THE WISEST MOVE UPND CAN MAKE IF AT ALL THEY WISH TO BE MEANINGFUL TO ZAMBIA. WE DONT NEED THEM IN MMD BUT WE WILL WELCOME THEM IF THEY ASK US. POLITICS IS ABOUT NUMBERS. WE WILL EXTEND JOBS TO HACHIPUKA, MATONGO, KAPITA. ITS TIME FOR UPND TO BE A RELEVANT PARTY IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  19. Zambians want to rebuild the country after 20 years of total chaos and destruction by the MMD. Even the MMD thugs know it all. They are even tired now of the destruction and they do not seem to care at all about any development. The list of destructive activities is endless. They need a boot. UPND if you go with MMD you will be shredded to pieces and that will be the end of your party. This will in turn strengthen PF if you did not know. PF will for the next government and UPND will be abandoned by the MMD. This is true -ask the octopus if you want!

  20. If HH believes Sata will hand him the reins of power in 2016 then he does not deserve to be president ever! How can anyone trust Sata? If he gets to plot 1 he will even deny anybody called HH or just lock him up in Mukobeko or Chimbokaila. How can you entrust your presidential aspirations to somebody who changes his mind every minute? What about the likes of Lubinda, Kabimba and God forbid Kambwili, dont they also have ambitions to get to plot 1? Iwe HH basiye abo bantu, bazangokuletela imfa chabe.

  21. Looking at the political landscapeof Zambia it is an illusion to think that a pact under the uncertain Bemba/Tonga leadership would yield any results. It is clear that what is keeping H H in the pact is the hope that Sata would be precluded from contesting the elections upon which time he would assume control of the pact. But Sata believes in “ukufilila mu nsenga”. And we have already seen that most MPs in UNDP are not for the pact. Remember also the stance of the luapula MPs vis a vis Sata…..surely even your mind is hazy…..you can’t see that MMD is winning the 2011 elections.

  22. FACT 1: Sata’s support has reached its maximum and can not significantly be increased any faurther!
FACT 2: Sata’s character and history makes him un sallable to UPND strongholds (SP, WP, NWP, parts of CP).
FACT 3: If Sata is pact candidate, the votes of the pact will not get any better than those of PF alone! Under Sata, Pact = LP+CP+CB+NP+LP
FACT 4: If HH is pact candidate, Nothern and Luapula will not vote for him, they did not vote for Mazoka either. Under HH, Pact = SP+CP+LP+CB+NWP + bits of WP
FACT 5: If HH is pact candidate, Lusaka and parts of Coperbelt will be added to his existing support Northern and Luapula will go to MMD!

HARD FACT: Since LP and NWP have fewer voters, the critical province for the pact is SP, if they dont get it, then pact will lose!

  23. Mmmmmm! How many pacts are the UPND going join and dis-join? These guys are trully desperate to be in power (not even in leadership). They want to field a president and yet they never worked as hard as PF. In fact they have gained recognition thruogh PF. Guys, humble yourselves- start from somewhere. Anyway, no one is stopping you to join MMD. You are just showing people your true colors. Work hard- PF came a long way.

  24. # 23Unga seke no seka -It is not Sata to decide. We are the ones to decide. I pray to God that MMD gets out some how.

  25. Peter # 26, its just that Sata is untrustworthy and un reliable international security concern. He is mentally dis arranged as you see him doing comedy even at funerals. That’s why the UPND which is made basically of well organized men and women is now in catch 22. Lets just sympathize with Sata & HH. Better for them to split.

  26. I can’t believe u pipo would actually believe Times of Zambia tripe about 3 UPND MPs that want a PACT with MMD. some of u even believing monga tuma stories that people tell pa chililo!

  27. ‘we are tired of being in the opposition’ what load of tosh is this, who they refering to by saying WE? l only hope WE isn’t southern province. OK lets assume they ditch the Pact, HH crabs the job from AIDS ravaged George and later MMD keep their word and he finally becomes President in 2016,now the question is, are they going to carry with them the entire Southern province into Government house and later State house? Please UPND stop treating people of that great province as i.d.i.ots, using them to bargain for cushy jobs for yourselves.
The other i.d.iot Meastro hehehehe was on it and hammering on similar lines, am embarrassed i attend the same church as him. Tongas you’re human beings and not pawns to be played , please reject this

  28. If at all the UPND do a u-turn on the pact, they will not only be letting themselves down but the many zambians crying for change.getting into an alliance with MMD RB and the likes of LAZO FTJ MASTER DRIBBLER with serious corrupt minds awe i don’t see HICHILEMA being zambian president ever because that will spill the beginning of the end of a party of UPND.

  29. HH do not be misled, other politicians like Sakwiba Sikota, Edith Nawakwi and BY are finished because they thought RB was the best person to support now their political careers are no more. Stick to your principles and the best advice is that Sata is still very popular and if you allow him to stand under the PACT in 2011 he will make you ready for 2016. Take it from me.

The MMD are a desperate lot and want to stick to power!!!

  30. Do people still think the PACT is viable?

my advice to pact die hard supporters is; please come to reality now, there is no pact to waste your time on, start supporting your parties individually now. the POST are already supporting PF only for now, they have long forgotten about UPND.

  31. should upnd join mmd they will not be assured of support in 2016. working together with mmd will only give them chance to learn how to govern. mmd is already strong and will 2011 elections with or without upnd. times of zambia has delt a lethal blow to the pact. all this is happening bcos pipo have faith in mmd except the minority who want to taste power for the sake of it with no agenda but will go on a path of wanton destruction of zed if given chance. God is on the good side of zambia and has given as good leadership not matchetmen

  32. These are disillusioned MPs that dont even have a say in the party. Pact is moving on with or without this propagana \:d/

  33. Who are those TRIO MPs? They dont have names? Of course Diangamo is big MMD cadre. Then are those TRIO ghosts from MMD?

  34. these guys are funny. chizyuka is OUT, haven’t you heard about it? “trio” of MPs my a**

  35. Why cant pact supporters just let the thing die? Even if you say that the three mps who want a pact with MMD are nonentities, the fact is if pact chooses Sata for candidacy then the votes in Southern province will just dwindle away. Sata is not popular in that province and as others have said he is not popular in Western and North- Western. The truth is that MMD is winning whether you like it or not. The numbers are in their favour. If there was some other character who would be the agent for change besides Sata then perhaps MMD would be scared. For the majority of Zambians outside the Bemba speaking strongholds Sata is a no go area. They will stick with the devil they know especially now that the govt is giving subsidies for fertiliser and the like. MMD is going nowhere.

  36. It is very suprising that some Zedians on this blogs are encouraging the pact to continue when the pact member do’nt like each other. This is wishful thinking because we need altenative solution to what we have… and MMD seem not be the solution. Let’s accept the fact that Sata and HH were not meant to be a couple. Because even in marriage, submission is of one unto one another is key principle for a stable relationship.

  37. For anyone to think Sata can honour an agreement, they should have put their brains on rent!

The PF big wigs: Sata, Kambwili, Nsanda, Mushili, Kabimba, Scott, Lubinda, POST. hhhhmmmm! where is Easter Nakawala by the way? I thought she did a ‘nice’ coloboration with MCS during the 3 rd term bid!

UPND + PF is like chewing wood and gum at the same time …. good luck Zambia!

  38. Was the last time Sata and HH were seen together at the ‘launch’? A photo opportunity and a joint press conference of the two leaders would help to quieten the rumours of an imminent split I think. Dont these guys have a pr somebody working with them?

  39. all thoz in mmd startin with yo bwezani are fuz !! and cum next year mmd is luzin ! VIVA PF-UPND PACT

  40. #42…that’s how bad things are in the PACT familiy…. Sata and HH have different diet preference and can not even settle for a common nshima and chicken.

  41. I know the Three MPs. It is Chizyuka, Robbie, and Mp for Namwala. It makes three for me. At the end of it all we call it RUBBISH, Why fearing victimization if u are confident thats Wat makes sense( MMD/UPND)I can trust these chaps coz they cant stand their ground. What a Shame for them. VIVA PACT

  42. This is proof that HH/UPND will be the main power brokers in the next elections. HH should stand firm and demand to be the presidential candidate in any pact arrangement. He must refuse to be used by either RB or Sata to gain power. If need be it is better for UPND to stand on their own and lose than to settle for the vice presidency. This will give HH the necessary ammunition to contest the next elections. There will be accusations of him being power hungry and the usual tribal bullsh*t but he should ignore that and stand his ground. We have heard these same promises of HH being groomed for 2011 in 2006. Come 2006 and the post has changed. What will stop Sata from contesting the 2016 elections if he is elected president now. Being vice president will be political suicide ……

  43. Late Mwanawasa extended his hand to HH but the guy is full of greedy and hungry for power. whichever pact UPND forms will tumble coz HH wants to lead at all costs………..what loads of nonsense. The Man has no patience but a marriage of convenience with MMD will surely see him through to GRZ but not as president. UPND choose another leader…………….and get a life!!!!

  44. ..cont. from No. 47. If you look at the history of all vice presidents you will notice that they appear to be dull. This is because of the nature of the position itself. Even George Kunda if he has to be his own man would behave differently. HH should not kill his political career by agreeing to be the V.P. He should just soldier on and demand for a generational change. Why can’t Sata or RB agree to be V.Ps, that way they would give advise to HH if he became president. They should follow the arrangement in Russia were Putin stepped aside and allowed his younger prodigy to take the presidency while he remained in the background controlling the instruments of power. Sata or RB can do the same.

  45. Zambian politics, when will things change for the better?UNIP was in power for 28 years before the old man pressed the self destruct button. If MMD is not careful,it is headed for the same thing, political doldrums.

  46. Hahaha….what a joke. Ati people of southern province are tired of being in opposition and now they want to work with Chiluba the thief so that he can give them the 8 million dollars he stole from the Zambians.
hehe now people of southern province are coming out in the open that they are the ones who sent Chiluba to steal so they could work together with him. They want to form an alliance with the MMD president chiluba so they can sale Zambia together. Zambians be ware of these schemes.
We are not woried UPND can go to MMD , but come 2011 PF is winning and then we will jail your false pastor Chiluba first, then the prophete of doom Shikapwasha and lastly come for you the diciples.

LETS GO GO PF , COME 2011 WE ARE IN STATE HOUSE.!!!!!!!

  47. Now its free for all. Even UPND can work with the Chief thief Chiluba….hehe what a joke of the year. Zambians lets be alert for these MMD thugs want to sell Zambia completely to Chiluba. And you know how sharp chiluba,s ndweno is, he will finish our wives. no no lets now just look up to PF to rescue us from the deadly weapon of Chiluba given that the UPND has now surrendered to Chiluba.

  48. the pact will neva work,we still dont know who the leader is.its less than 18 months b4 the elections, but the closer we get the more confusion there is,the more splits we see.now upnd mps are joining the MMD,come 2011 MMD will be in power for another 5 years,Sata will retire PF will be another UNIP.There will be more petitions same old story

  49. # 53 this is not just propaganda, the pact is just breaking up.there is no leader for the pact & MMD is taking full advantage of this. The pact is a headless chickhen.

  50. On “The trio, however, said the UPND’s support for President Banda would be on the “strict understanding” that the MMD also supports Hakainde Hichilema as presidential candidate in the 2016 general elections” the 3 UPND MPs are a dull lot because they have to demand that HH becomes presidential candidate in 2011 as President RB Banda retires from active politics.

The 3 MPs must also remember that HH may not be UPND president after the 2012 UPND Convention and will have to pave way for another UPND presiden/presidential candidate in 2016.

So this is all nonsense and let HH continue in the PF-UPND PACT where HH must demand to be 2011 PACT presidential candidate if MMD is not ready to offer him the presidential candidacy in 2011.

Be blessed all and keep well.
    _
    Matt…

  51. A president does not need training or experience otherwise RB would have been the best president Zambia had had. HH/UPND should refuse to be hoodwicked by the desperate MMD & PF cadres who want to out do each other. If UPND do their homework well they stand a chance of winning the voters they had in 2001. Eastern, Northern, Copperbelt and Luapula provinces did not vote for MMD in 2001 but still Mazoka almost won the elections. UPND just need to focus on winning voters in Western P., North Western P. north of Central P., CB.P rural(the Lamba & Lenje stronghoods) and Lusaka Rural. With Mwanawasa’s demise it’s possible for UPND to penetrate these areas. The urban voters in Lusaka will be shared amongst all three major parties. They can also win a good chaunk of votes in the CB urban areas.

  52. #58 I tend to agree with you. If only HH had concentrated on those areas in the recent past, we would be talking about something different now. I dont know whether he still has the time to do it though.

  53. the pact is an imaginary substance. similar to Halloween and thanksgiving. We are in reality. Found my voters card. Hopefully Milupi or Bwezani will get my vote…:-w

  54. This kind of desperation by iz very dangerous. Can imagine what thoze learned journalists at the Times Of Zambia go through to publish some of theze articlez.

  55. Today’s Editorial by The Post says it all. HH is not ready lead the country. He wants to make a short-cut entry to Plot 1. HH has not stood on the platform or made known to save the public. He has proclaimed to a good businessman, but has not used his Business Intelligence skills to have an impact on the people of Zambia. He is not able-bodied communicator or inspirational leader. He needs more experience & years to get the X-Factor out of himself.

  56. SATA is still in the Wilderness like the Children of Israel. He can smell the Promise Land but he is failing to get there. The only way he can reach the Promise Land is by having an Intellect or Brain Transplant. Else, he will spend another 40 years going in circles like the Children of Israel. He is driven by anger, rage, wrath and will tell any lie or break a promise – all in the name of getting to Plot 1. As for the PACT, this is it
This sounds like two 16 year teenagers eloping to get married against the wishes of their parents. The Pact is an inconvenienced marriage proposal.

  57. Like the Liberal Democrats of the UK, they went into a Coalition with the Conservatives in a rush, seeking opportunities and now they are have started to echo regrets. In the past, we have seen these things in Israel, Italy & Japan. Hence these countries fail to keep the same leaders for more than 3 years because of internal fights and failing to lead according to their Political Manifestos.

  58. The demise of UPND-PF Pact
Political leadership requires stability and tolerance of other people’s views and interests and not self conceited individuals who appear to have made a pact between themselves to the exclusion of their members.

They have neglected to provide leadership and are both yearning for the presidency at whatever cost.

If such divisions can be seen in a rural election where both parties are claiming popularity what will happen in Lusaka province?

The United Party for National Development (UPND) and Patriotic Front (PF) pact is a mere movement with only one agenda which is to remove the MMD from power.

  59. Unfortunately for those whose agenda is as described above have completely neglected to carry their members with them in their quest todislodge the MMD.

This is no doubt the beginning of the end of the UPND-PF Pact. The MMD is currently the only party without an owner, making it possible for anyone to take over the reins anytime.

The PF without (Michael) SATA cannot continue just like UPND is having a leadership vacuum without the late Anderson Mazoka. Long live MMD and may the pact rest in peace.

  60. Those are good words from UPND. MMD is a very good and understanding party.
MMD is focused on Development and if UPND is ready to work together for the
benefit of the people, well and good.

  61. What’s the interest in vying for State House?

The people have and continue to speak over what is happening in the United Party for National Development (UPND) and Patriotic Front (PF) pact.

From the look of things, it is like the majority of Zambians are disappointed over the deadlock and attitude of the two leaders and their front men that is the UPND and the PF.

People had found a saviour in the name of the pact to deliver them from poverty and misrule but alas it is the opposite of their expectations.

  62. On the other hand, it could be a blessing in disguise so that the electorate can know what kind of leadership is vying for state house and Government.

The people must dissect and read between the lines on how these ‘saviours’ will deliver them from injustice and oppression

And it is like these men are not there to deliver the people but for their selfish gains.

If they can quarrel and misunderstand each other over ward by-elections, what more the presidency?

It’s like neither is prepared to give in for the sake of unity and nation-building.

  63. There is egoism in both leaders and humility is lacking and as such does not qualify them to lead people unless they reconcile genuinely and bury the hatchet.

It is shameful that the leaders are quiet and do not seem to know what to do when the masses are expecting quick and decisive solutions.

If PF and UPND think they can win the elections single-handedly then they are cheating themselves and wasting people’s precious time.

  64. You can’t trust Sata!

WE all know that the formation of the pact between the United Party for National Development (UPND) and Patriotic Front (PF) was mooted by PF leader Michael Sata.

When Mr Sata lost the presidential elections three times, he knew his credibility was on the line among the Zambian people and even the sponsors of his campaign, whom he promised to sell part of the country.

Fearing that he might lose funding, he went into a marriage of convenience with UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.

  65. Now he wants to mislead Zambians including Mr Hichilema that he is a political messiah that has come to free Zambia from the economic shackles.

He has convinced Mr Hichilema that the only way to challenge President Rupiah Banda’s administration is through anarchy and insults. They have waged a war against the current regime and embarked on a hostile campaign targeting RB personally.

It is difficult to trust Mr Sata because his actions are very misleading. In 2006 Mr Sata declared that once he came into power he would free (former president Frederick) Chiluba. But since Dr Chiluba was acquitted, Mr Sata has changed his stance. He is now calling Dr Chiluba a thief. What I would like to know is – where was Mr Sata when Dr Chiluba was ‘stealing’?

  66. One only needs to look at the way he runs his party to see that Mr Sata has not changed. The same way he used to victimise his colleagues in the MMD when he was national secretary that is the way he is victimising his own members of Parliament.

Mr Sata pushed every opponent out of the MMD so that he could remain alone. Thank God Dr Chiluba was a wise and experienced politician. He picked Levy Mwanawasa to stand on the MMD ticket.

This forced Mr Sata to resign and form his political party. This man is disappointed and frustrated. Zambians should be wary of such leaders.

  67. MMD is a very good party. UPND is welcome if it’s intention is to build the country

  68. Kitwe PF/UPND Pact confusion deepens

CONFUSION has continued to rock the Patriotic Front (PF)-United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact in Kitwe, the latest one being in the Chimwemwe local government by-election where some UPND members have refused to support the PF candidate.

This came to light when UPND aspiring candidate for the by-election Sebastian Munkonge was rejected on the nomination date, saying the UPND was a ‘village’ party.
Mr Munkonge, however, filed his nomination as an independent candidate.

  69. He said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that some UPND members were not happy that after they had settled for him as the preferred candidate, an instruction from the national management committee (NMC) directed him to give chance to the PF member.

Mr Munkonge alleged that the NMC of UPND had directed him to give chance to PF’s Overton Nyondo because Chimwemwe Ward was a stronghold for PF.

But UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said he could not comment on the matter until he carries out investigations, while his PF counterpart Given Lubinda was in the meeting.

  70. He claimed that there was division in the ward between PF and UPND members over the adoptions and warned of serious divisions in the pact, unless the top leadership of the two political parties explain to their members the conditions of the pact, especially when it comes to adoptions of candidates during elections.

Mr Munkonge, who has since been expelled from the UPND for ignoring the top leadership instructions to give chance to Mr Nyondo because it was a PF stronghold, said more problems were awaiting the PF-UPND Pact because PF was dictating to UPND.

  71. “The divisions that have happened in the PF-UPND pact during the Chimwemwe local government adoptions may happen in many constituencies and wards in the coming by-elections and the 2011 elections itself.

“If this thing of saying Copperbelt is a stronghold of PF continues, it will disadvantage many UPND members on the Copperbelt and many of them may just defect to MMD, especially as we head towards the 2011 elections,” Mr Munkonge said.

  72. VIVA PACT!!! .. MMD, bootlicker,Zedian and other inate fellows. It’s employees and pipo like you that we studied about in ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR studies- CHANGE MANAGEMENT- effecting change & overcoming inculcated norms either out of habit or culture. Any Chaneg from status quo is always good and thats what developed, emerging & other progressive nations and companies do. Ask Jack Walsh my friends. CHANGE is coming. Don’t be scared.. When Change is at the door many will be scared, many will shout wolf, many will jump ship, many will find it difficult to believe. But its at such times that the Chaneg AGent (UPND +PF) show resilience and soldier on. Thats how, Standard Oil was created, General electric, Apatheid was brought down. Change change.. VIVA PACT !

  73. MMD is setting up a good leadership example in the Nation. This is good for all the MMD members. Let’s continue working hard for the betterment of the people of Zambia. No jealous, no insults, no confusion. Viva MMD!

  74. 30 msana wanzili greetings. On your “The other i.d.iot Meastro hehehehe was on it and hammering on similar lines, am embarrassed i attend the same church as him. Tongas you’re human beings and not pawns to be played , please reject this ” I pity you that you waste your time at the SDA church trying to please whoever, certainly not God the Creator, since you seem not to understand Matt 5 which includes “5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

    Repent from sinning willfully.

Be blessed all and keep well.

    Matt 6:33

  75. Are we getting the type of political leaders we deserve? But for those who see politics as an opportunity to abuse power and public office for self-enrichment, politics is, as Simon Kabanda has correctly observed, a business venture. And Kabanda is right when he says that “one of the biggest challenges we have in the country today is to see leaders who are selfless. We haven’t seen leaders offering themselves for leadership because they are selfless. People are offering themselves for leadership because they are interested in power and wealth. They have taken political leadership as a business venture”. Kabanda’s observations may not be correct for all our politicians, but are certainly correct for most of our politicians.

  76. Most of them see politics as a job, a business venture to use in one’s endeavours to enrich oneself. And it is because of this that we are increasingly seeing people with no traceable records of public service of any sort, people who have never shown any interest in the welfare of their neighbours offering themselves for political leadership in the same way they would apply for any job or government contract. They are seeking public office to fulfill an ambition, and sometimes even a pleasure, and not to serve the people. We have people who have never had any interest in politics assuming political leadership at very high levels. What is it that is bringing them into politics when they have no interest in the affairs of the people whose votes they are seeking? SO MEMBE KNOWS THE TRUTH

  77. And in Dr Kenneth Kaunda, we have an example of such leadership in this country. Comrade KK’s spirit, his utter devotion to others without any thought of self, was shown in his boundless sense of responsibility in his work and his boundless warm heartedness towards all our people. Those who aspire for political leadership in our country must learn from him. They must all learn the spirit of absolute selflessness from him. With this spirit, everyone can be very useful to the people. A person’s ability may be great or small, but if one has this spirit, one is already noble-minded and pure, a person of moral integrity and above vulgar interest, a person who is of value to the people. All our political leaders, whatever their rank, should consider themselves to be servants of the people, a

  78. No 62 Independent Observer says: today’s post editorial does not refer to HH in any way. The best you can do is to argue your point without introducing falsehood. I am sure if you get rid of propaganda and analyse people fairy you will realise that HH has ‘stood on the platform or made known to save the public. He has proclaimed to a good businessman, but also used his Business Intelligence skills to have an impact on the people of Zambia. He is a able-bodied communicator or inspirational leader. He does not need more experience or years to get the X-Factor out of himself.’ Please just open your eyes and remove prejudice and you will see the real man!

  79. Sata’s nauseating moral nudity

YOU may fault George Mpombo for his daily bulletin of bitter outbursts at President Rupiah Banda who preferred eminent lawyer George Kunda to him for the lofty position of Republican vice-president in 2008.

By the way, it is just a question of being overly ambitious for Mr Mpombo to even have thought he was worthy being considered for such a position that demands extreme self-discipline which the former Defence minister so astonishingly lacks.

  80. Mr Mpombo was not even among the names Zambian people were speculating for the vice-presidency before President Banda appointed his first Cabinet following the October 30, 2008 presidential election victory.

There were such names as Kabinga Pande, Inonge Mbikusita-Lewanika, Bwalya Chiti and a few others that were making rounds as possible candidates for the vice-presidency.

The calibre and intellect of these people is far higher than that of Mr Mpombo who has of late been publicly advertising the reasons why no one should ever entrust him with national responsibility.

  81. When President Banda went for Mr Kunda, who had loyally served as Justice Minister in the Levy Mwanawasa administration, not too many eyebrows were raised, for Zambians had come to appreciate the man as a workaholic.

But for Mr Mpombo, it was a different story, yet his name is not even worthy being mentioned in the same sentence as that of Mr Kunda’s.

So it is difficult to understand Mr Mpombo’s frustration which makes him insult President Banda and Mr Kunda every other day. It appears even when he is asleep, all he thinks of is how he would frame his new set of insults the following morning.

  82. But Mr Mpombo is only human and is bound to make as many misjudgments as he consistently does nowadays.

Even as Mr Mpombo continues to make these gaffes with gay abandon, he has his other side for which he must be credited, particularly his description of some politicians who are literally an embodiment of moral nudity.

The more one listens to Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata changing colours like a chameleon and turning solemn functions into stages for comedy, the more they are bound to agree with Mr Mpombo’s views on the former colonial police constable.

  83. Living manifestation of evil

“We on the Copperbelt are united. Don’t listen to political demagogues like Michael Sata. I am always saying Sata is a living manifestation of evil, he has got a spiritually and politically debauched mind,” said Mr Mpombo in May 2006.

  84. Four years down the line, Mr Sata’s debauched mind is still at it and recently wanted to turn the funeral of the late Supreme Court Judge Peter Chitengi into another comedy stage.

Mr Sata wants to turn himself into a political Bikkiloni or Diffikoti but forgets that comedians have their stage, and funerals are not one of them.

Whether you talk about Mr Bean, Sauzande, Maximo and Brighton Sinkala, these people know or knew the difference between the drama stage and public life.

  85. Fellow blogers!
time and again i have said it here that there is no PACT between PF and UPND and i am happy to say that slowly am being vindicated by the unfolding scenarios.Blogers like chomba have little or no knowledge in reading and understanding zambian politics.MMD todate remains a credible party capable of wining an election and trustworthy to form an alliance with.Good luck HH we have to think about it if we are to accomodate you in MMD now that the king cobra SATA has released its vernom unto your face.

  86. Only a mentally sick person can send cadres with Machetes to go and hack people in Kanyama & Chawama. Who else could have done that? Oh Yes ! MR. SATA

What goes around comes around. He must be suffering with memory lapses, which makes him deny anything he did when he’s put on the spot.

Chiluba knew that Sata would lead the country into anarchy. So opted for Wisdom against Evil and went for Levy.

  87. The pact is our only way out.Zambia, please don’t allow these MMD crooks to run our country anymore. Those foolish MP’s are paid by the MMD.no one in their right state of mind would support the MMD.

  88. #58 is right HH needs only to assert himself in WP ,NW southern of CP lusaka (Rural) and CBP ( rural) he has better chance than SATA to win the 2011 election Fact#1 SATA needs HH more than HH does act#2 SATA is old and may not be there in 2016, die in wildness
fact#3 SATA has lost some grounds in his former strong hold as evidence in local gvt by election while HH has increased at local and parliamentary level
fact #4 SATA is not trustworth as the past record can tell while HH is more consistent and mature in terms of behavior
fact#5 SATA has a prolonged adolescent behavior while HH matured and has good judgement
fact #6 Kabimba knows well that PF alone is not strong enough to win general election but without SATA there no PF
fact #7 PF cannot win in mbala isoka nakonde…

  89. Only a mentally sick person cant see what Sata did while in UNIP and MMD. No one is above the law and a case does not ebb away, if really Sata macheted people in Chawama why have you failed to arrest Him? If Sata stole why is he moving free while your doctors like the Mitis, Kateles are convicted criminals. Why do you MMD thugs always steal votes from him. hehe sure Sata dont die now we need you in zambia to make these MMD thugs always checked up otherwise they will starting taking our wives away from us since they have Chiluba a professor in wife grabbing.
SATA SATA SATA THE BRAIN TEASER IN THE DULL BRAINS OF THE MMD THUGS . ha ha ha !!!!

  90. If these MP really exist, they are free to join MMD and support RB. Can they also elaborate on the statement As a party we must learn a lesson from how Mr Sata treated Mr Sikota (United Liberal Party (ULP) president Sakwiba Sikota) in the loose alliance they had in 2006 ?

  91. #82 Maestro Hhehhehhehhe
Did you know that Lucifa knows the bible more than you and interprets scriptures to suit himself. You post a hell lot of verses here but what comes out of you is despicable. Your hatred against individuals you personally dont know e.g Sata but out of what you read from papers is simply insanity. Next time you post hate comments remember you’re an SDA church member and in our church we teach love even to our enemies and not hatred.
Infact you must be one of the very few confused Tongas(very few) in our church that think SDA church Zambia is for them before other tribes. Please stop this madness you’re bringing the name of our church into ridicule. Preach love, love love love love love

  92. 99 please do not show your Holy Bible ignorance by “Your hatred against individuals you personally dont know e.g Sata but out of what you read from papers is simply insanity. Next time you post hate comments remember you’re an SDA church member and in our church we teach love even to our enemies and not hatred.” because the Holy Scriptures record “O generation of vipers, Mt. 3.7 ; 23.33 · Lk. 3.7 how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. (Matt 12:34)” [Luke 3: 7] Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? explicitly shows that John the Baptist said such.

    Did John have hatred?
    _
    Matt 6:33

  93. 99 msana wanzili following my Did John have hatred? do you know who John the Baptist was? In case, you are just one of those that go to warm sits on the Saturday Sabbath day without understanding the Holy Scriptures and hence seek real ‘salvation’ [the Jewish real name ‘Jesus’], John the Baptist came to “Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight” [Luke 3:4] and he had love for the people he called Vipers, just like I have love for Mr PF/Sata MC who is a candidate for heaven although he has to repent from his very bad past activities — not by confessing to a Catholic priest but sincerely to God.

Lastly, I leave you a warning “[Matt 7:1] Judge not, that ye be not judged” following your terrible comments on 99.

    Be blessed though…

  94. As for the UPND members and sympathisers like me who share “SOME United Party for National Development (UPND) members on the Copperbelt have allegedly resolved to support the MMD in next year’s elections if party president Hakainde Hichilema is not picked as Patriotic Front (PF) -UPND pact presidential candidate,” reported by DAILY MAIL make sure the unelected PF self-appointed leader does not lead the PF-UPND PACT or even be HH’s Vice-President in a case where HH wins the 2011 Zambian presidential elections because Mr Sata MC is not trustworthy due to his past behaviour, especially that PF vuvuzela (the POST Newspaper) in its Editorial for today again showed that they do not think UPND’s HH is good enough to become PACT’s 2011 presidential candidate.

    Be blessed all…

  95. On another note, anyone who is sensible will admit that UPND president HH is the man of the Zambian moment right now until 2011 election should the good Lord God continue to offer him the gift of life.

Continue being steadfast in what you believe all.
    _
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

  96. Personally I donot care who becomes President as long as we have a suitable constitution to tame him!

  97. This is serious propaganda from desparate MMD camp. They know what will befall them afta 2011. HH (UPND) stay in the Pact with PF. Im sure you thought through and discussed very well before you called for the Pact. It is the right decision.
Mr. Sata does not own PF neither do you own UPND. You guys stay intact. There is alot of hope out there in the Pact. Any one of you who would step his foot out of the Pact will be discrediting himself before the Zambian people. They will nevera trust that leader any more.
Yes, challenges could be there but they are manageable. I think you have alot to learn from Mr, Sta politically and he has alot to learn from you economically. YOU ARE THE BEST COMBINATION.
PLEASE DO NOT DISCREDIT YOURSELF BY BUNDLING YOURSELF WITH DISCREDITED MMD

Today’s Editorial is an “equal character generalization” of all political contenders.
Therefore, HH falls short among others. In other words all these guys have been described in today’s editorial, including Sata, Banda, Sikota, Mwila, Edith and so on.

The Post gave an example – how Kaunda set an example by executing himself as a leader for All Zambians not just a part of Zambia. Kaunda was not perfect and made some mistakes too but had good morals. Read the article again and you will find different synopsis and abstracts consigned to all these political leaders.

  100. Zed Patriot 86 #

SORRY! HH has not surpassed Mazoka. That is why there is too much noise coming from his camp. He is failing to broadcast the vision and agenda. That is just the TRUTH. HH needs Sata and Sata does not need HH. Frankly, HH has reached his height. From now on, it’s down hill because he cannot penetrate into Copperbelt, Northern & Luapula.

  101. Don’t be silly. Who needs HH? Certainly MMD does not need HH or anybody else to win 2011. And who tells you that MMD has run short of leaders to take over from RB? Do you think that MMD leaders have no presidential ambitions? Let HH work hard and build his own party, not sneaking into other people’s parties the way he sneaked into UPND, or the way he wants to sneak into president of Zambia via PF.
And finally, these characters are known for chaos, let them stay where chaos reign i.e. in PACT. Don’t bring confusion to a party that RB is painstakingly rebuilding for 2011.

  102. Independent Observer: HH does not need to concentrate much on penetrating Northern, Luapula and Copperbelt becoz no matter what does he does or says the voters in those three provinces will vote for Sata. It’s just the nature of Zambia politics and nothing will change there. HH needs to concentrate his campaigns in N/W P., W.P, CB rural and north of Central province. These are the voters that are likely to switch to HH with the demise of Mwanawasa.. HH can only progress uphill as demonstrated by the recent bye elections.
I don’t agree with everything Mmembe says. He is one person who once demonised KK, Mwanawasa and Sata but now because it suits him he wants to potray them as angels. I think Mmembe has presidential ambitions and he sees HH as his greatest threat.

  103. Zambia will always be behind because we do not know how to identify what we want. What our needs are and how to set priorities to meet those needs. We are busy talking about issues which cannot bring food on the table, medicine and other necessities. We can have good public speakers or even people who can insult but can they fix our economy?. Mwanawasa was not a good public speaker by nature but the man could move things and even his well meaning critics were ashamed to see the way he turned the economy. It’s that HH is not a good public speaker but the man can fix our economy knowing how he acts. We cannot continue with people who failed our economy before, our aim now is to have someone who can do something that can benefit the entire country the way Levy did.

  104. …cont. from 111: Just to add a bit of history. UNIP and KK introduced one party state in 1973 as a way of avoiding tribal voting in Zambia. KK knew that Zambians would always support parties that hail from their regions. This is still the case today. I for one do not agree with the notion that KK was a great national leader as portrayed by the post. KK engineered Zambian politics to make it easy for him to rule. In a multiparty setup it is not easy for any party to be popular in all provinces hence the formation of political pacts. With the Zambian regional demography it is difficult for any tribe to dominate(We should thank God for this)hence the need for political deals. It is, therefore, utopia for anyone to claim that Sata or RB does not need HH. They all need each other to survive.

  105. #109 You still live in the past. Copperbelt is no longer strong hold for Sata for simple reason his Mps are let down. HH is going higher and higher just wait for luena by election. If UPND wins luena just know that HH is the next President. Southern, Western, Northwestern , Central, Copperbelt rural will give HH victory. Sata will have a big battle in Luapula and part of northern. Lusaka & Copperbelt will be shared by UPND, MMD and PF. No doubt HH will carry the day.

  106. This time around we do not need these good public speakers. Yes we know HH is not a good public speaker but the man can act to fix our economy which is the most important thing for some of us who mean well for our mother zambia. GRZ at the moment is full of old people who do not want to see young ones prosper or develop themselves as such they will try to reduce us by saying we cannot manage to rule and even us we follow. We have to identify our needs and these propaganda issues are just there to distruct us from the real issues.

  107. #113 You are 100% correct Sata+RB the need HH to win. But for HH he can win alone for now.

  108. We need to dream of a prosperous zambia and not this short sightedness we disply on this blog. When Mwanawasa was improving the economy, he did not just consider the central province where he comes from because zambia is so diverse where sectors of the economy are spread into different regions, hence at the end of the day the whole country benefits from economic boom. As zambians we should dream of a rich zambia where our professional can come back and have pride in their own nation, guys these is no place like home and zambia is the only place where we can walk with our heads up. We have really suffered in other people’s countries and we need to claim our diginity one day by seing our motherland getting better economically. VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN MANAGE THE ECONOMY COME 2011.

  109. Times of Zambia / Zambia Daily Mail? What are their sales like? You will see how these same tabloits will be writing after elections 2011. I am wellplace in the PACT and we shall let the alarmists carry out their job and then mmD will relax ati “ifintu filifye bwino”, and come election time, they’ll start to panic.

  110. That ka croud is suspect, how come they are squashed in on the verandar, and majority wearing shades. Hmmmmm.

  111. The day zambia will be called one of the fastest growing economy, where shortages of medicine in hospitals will be a thing of the past, then I will say we are on the right truck. Some of us students suffering in Russia will return home atleast with hope. My dear bloggers poverty has no dignity by nature no matter how big you are reduced to a lower level because you have no pride in youself.

  112. These small issues clouding our minds now have no value in our main subject which is the Economy, and the faster we realise what is important in our lives the better for us and even our children in future. Whoever manages to fix the economy regardless of region where he comes from benefits the entire country because the sectors of our economy is so diverse in nature that if well managed each depend on the other for existance.

  113. We need to elect someone who can manage our economy because the prosperity of our nation is more important than these small issues we waste our time dwelling on. Whoever manages to fix the economy benefits the entire nation because many sectors of our economy are dependent on each other hence without the other one would not function well.

  114. Many sectors of our economy depend on each other therefore we need a leader who can manage to realise our dreams by bringing all these sectors together. Zambia is so diverse and we need each other guys that these unproductive issues we are dwelling on.

  115. This is just propaganda from MMD and I beg the upnd guys not to respond to it to shame them. These are the same guys who were spreading propaganda around telling people that Gary Nkombo wants to take over from HH, and this is not new to us as they will try their level best to destabilise the pact because of their desperation. Do not mind them they will stop spreading propaganda the way they stopped sucking from their mothers’ breasts.

  116. THIS IS CLASSIC PROPAGANDA WHO ARE THESE MPS WHO LT can’t MENTION THEIR NAMES? WELL ONE THING I KNOW IS THAT PEOPLE FROM SOUTHERN PROVINCE ARE VERY STUBBORN AND DIFFICULT TO MANIPULATE AND BRIBE, CHILUBA, LEVY TRIED BUT THEY ALL FAILED WHILE WE HEARD ABOUT THAT GROUP OF HUGE PF DIS DENTS NO SINGLE UPND MP SUCCUMBED TO THE MMD MANIPULATION APART FROM CHIZYUKA. I CAN ASURE YOU THIS IS PROPAGANDA BY MMD THUGS, OF COURSE UPND MUST BE CAUTIOUS OF THE DANGERS THAT ARE AHEAD OF THEM THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THOSE THUGS IN MMD CAN ALLOW HH TO TAKE OVER FROM RUPIAH IN 2016 IN THE SAME VAIN HH MUST BE ALERT OF SATA, HE HAS MASSIVE APPETITE IN DISAPPOINTING FRIENDS,HE DID THIS TO SAKWIBA,FTJ,KK, REMEMBER THOSE WISE MPS HE KICKED OUT DURING THE 3RD TERM, HE CAN TURN AGAINST HIM .ASK NERVOUS MUMBA

  117. @117 you are dreaming. HH will be the weeping come 2016 if Sata goes to state house 2011. Chiza munyunya dont forget he is the garduate of FTJ institute of rigging & plunder.

  118. Zed Patriot says:

I agree with you, M’Membe has always wanted the job of being a President. That is the fact. We know that, even now, he is lobbying some people to support him when the right time comes and he sees an opportunity. Banda, Sata & HH all know that. However, everyone needs him for coverage, especially those in opposition to character assassinate the MMD Government.

  119. continued …. The only thing that is stopping M’Membe from taking the “Whole “9 Yard” is that he is almost Bankrupt. He owes a lot of money and The Post is merely surviving at present. The Sales & Marketing revenues have dipped down. He has tried to find investors and it appears everyone is shying away from him. In addition he’s making so may enemies and looks so isolated. Mind you, he has gone as far as finding financial support to these foreign Government & NGO – but has failed. He made some bad business decision and he is blaming the political establishment of MMD to have brought him down.

  120. continued… On the other hand, M’membe should be allowed to print checks and balances on all political leaders & the Government as a whole, as long as he strikes the balance. Presently, he appears to be biased in most times to suit his agenda. Sometimes he does it just to makes sales and often to spray his venom.

  121. continued…
HH has not shown the willingness and attempted to campaign or inspire all corners of the country. He is young and he should be vibrant to talk to the new generation. Nevertheless he is failing to do that – but counting on Southern & North Western Provinces, which is very cheap. He has to be a person for all Zambia. If everyone plays into this tribal fixation, then we are heading nowhere.

  122. continued….
On the issue of KK, his One Party Participatory system was very “Autocratic & Dictatorial” way of ruling the country. Bar that, as young nation just starting, probably we needed that to unite all the 72 tribes of Zambia. Especially that the levels of illiteracy was very high in the streets. I maybe wrong on this one, but it brought peace and unison. Can one imagine going through what we see today ( the infants ) in the early hours & years of our independence? Rather, can you imagine Simon Kapwepwe with his party in Northern Province, Elija Mundenda or Mainza Chona in Southern Province and Sikota Wina with his party in Western Province ( As hypothetical examples )?

  123. contined..
Surely development was going to be hindered by political fights. Late Simon Kapwepwe tried tribal politics that could have divided the country, especially in the Northern Province.

The way it’s going, the MMD will take a share from all the provinces and end up winning the 2011 Elections. The Pact is right now hallucination. Sata will never be the President of Zambia.

  124. Independent Observer; Problem is when you take as stand as you do, i.e. Sata will never be the president of Zambia’, you close yourself to considering a workable win-win situation for Zambia. There is also nothing wrong with a party being strong in only some parts of Zambia and weak in others. This is normal to any casual observer of world politics. If Sata can never be president, then why all this noise about him? Truth be told, UPND can not win on their own, but they stand a chance with PF. PF needs the UPND for especially the southern, N/western and some central province votes. The urban (Lusaka and CB) could now be said to be safe votes for the PF. As Zambia advances, you will see fragmentation of political allegiances based on some ideas.

  125. Sad part is that this is tribal now, but one wishes it were economical. For instance hard working people coming together to form some liberal-idea based labor party while rich dudes of all colors and hues such as FTZ and Diangamo coming together to form some conservative party to defend their riches. But no, we are very far from this sophisticated yet natural way of thinking. Tribe and region is our refugee. My take on all this is let all approaching our political development allow the PACT to try and then draw lessons for the future. The people in UPND wanting to join the MMD, Haachipuka, Matongo have been rejected by their own constituencies. They can not stand on UPND next year.

  126. Independent Observer, What is wrong with Fred M’mbe aspiring to be President? Is he not a Zambian? Fred is a vibrant young man with all the qualities to be president!!!!! As for Sata, wait for another 9 months or so, and you will get a shock of your life……In 2008, Nyamasoya had 39%, Sata 38% . This tells the whole story mwaiche! NI PA BWATO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  127. THE TRUTH MUST BE TOLD :x SATA-PF CAN NOT WIN ELECTION ALONE, HE CAN ONLY WIN CB, LSK,NP AND HE MUST NOT BE FOOLED BY BLOGERS LIKE PROPHET OF DOOM ITS HAS BEEN PROOVED THAT WINNING CB,LSK AND NP NEVER MAKES YOU PRESIDENT THE WISE THING IS FOR SATA TO STICK WITH HH. AND ITS TRUE ALSO HH CAN NOT WIN ELECTIONS ALONE HE ONLY COMMANDS SP,NWP,WP,CP and some parts of lusaka like kanyama and jack compound where most tongas reside. SO DO NOT BE FOOLED STICK TO EACH OTHER HH and PF

  128. 142 You are correct to say that Sata and HH on their own cannot win an election. But then Sata’s and HH’s votes are mutually exclusive. They cannot and will never combine to win any vote, forget 2011 baasa.
