The Patriotic Front (PF)/United Party for National Development (UPND) pact has disputed media reports that it is has decided to split.
UPND/PF pact co- spokesperson Given Lubinda said that the reports are a fabrication and has accused the Movement of Multi Party Democracy (MMD) of orchestrating them.
Mr Lubinda said that the pact is intact and adding that pact leaders have never gone to anyone to disclose the intentions of the PACT to split.
Mr Lubinda said that the PF and UPND are committed to ensure that the pact forms government after the 2011 elections.
Yesterday it was reported that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and PF president Michael Sata have agreed to dissolve the pact and are seeking ways of informing their followers.
But Mr. Lubinda stated that the PACT has come out stronger after the Kaoma and Chadiza by election saga.
He was speaking last evening on QFM’s Monday Nite Lie.
And speaking on the same programme, UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said that the party president Hakainde Hichilema is committed to the pact.
He said that it was shocking to read media reports from a state run newspaper indicating that the pact has decided to split.

Iam a Bemba/Luunda from Luapula, but I will support who ever becomes PACT president- HH or MCS. MMD is inciting rebels to demand the PACT announces the prefered candidate. This is a ploy to confuse the PACT.One the PACT becomes a party, the MMD will ensure that PF and UPND are dissolved and thus cause chaos among MPs. gentlemen, let’s call a spade a spade. there is no future in the pact, at least for the good of zambia. the pact was created for wrong reasons and has nothing to offer to the zambians. merging for the sake of unseating mmd and going into state house is not reason enough. we need leaders who have plans for zambia and not for mmd. let’s not burry our heads in the sand. unless with some divine intervention, the pact will plunge zambia into more problems than what the mmd has done. how i wish the pact could break soonest.

In light of the MMD’s panic to create and MMD-UPND PACT, the mighty UPND team must demand that HH becomes MMD-UPND 2011 presidential candidate as Mr President RB Banda retires from office.
I am also reminding HH that he may also not even win the UPND president election at the 2012 UPND convention; and if he win the presidency of UPND, HH will not be eligible to stand as UPND president in 2016.

MMD controlled newspapers report the pact is breaking. The people they are quoting as saying so are expelled PF and UPND members, MMD members, and MMD sponsored NGOs (alledged). None of these have any dealing with the Pact.
