Chief Government Spokesperson Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha
Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha says government will soon consult the late Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa’s family on how best to remember the former head of state.

Lieutenant General Shikapwasha said that government would also consult other stakeholders to work modalities on how best to remember former Presidents.

He said the consultations would begin within the next few days and would also seek ways of honoring former Presidents including those that die while in office.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha has meanwhile said that government supports the initiatives by the family of the late President Mwanawasa to hold functions as a way to remember the late President.

He said this in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today ahead of the second anniversary of the death of President Mwanawasa.

He said August 19 this week will mark the second anniversary of the third head of state Dr. Mwanawasa who died at Percy military hospital in France in 2008 after an illness.

Lt. Gen. Shikapwasha who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister said the family of the late President will therefore hold a number of functions to commemorate the day adding that government will support this concept.

He has since appealed to Zambians who are able to support these functions to render their help in the love and memory of the late President.

Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa who was Zambian third republican President died on August 19, 2008 in France after an illness and was buried at Embassy Park in Lusaka on September 3, 2008.

  1. Is this an after-reaction to the launch of the Mwanawasa Foundation? Wanting to hide in ‘remembering’ him after you tear down his anti-corruption fight, what a shame!

  2. Slap a new coat of paint on UTH and name it after him. I’m sure we can find some donor aid to pay for that. No need for consultations that will lead to nothing, and just waste everyone’s time.

  3. Honouring Dr. Levy Mwanawasa is allowing justice to prevail on Dr Chiluba and not shieding him from justice. Dr Mwanawasa wanted very much to ensure justice prevailed on Dr. Chiluba and his friends.
Dr. Mwanawasa was a personal friend of Dr Chiluba and so he wanted his friend to be cleared by the high hest court. He was bent on fighting corruption. This is what the government needs to do to honour his memories……..

  4. They trash what the Man stood for, especially fight against CORRUPTION and now they seem to want to Jump on the bandwagon of rememebering HIM. Hypocrites.

  5. The best way to remember Levy is to uohold is vision for Zambia. Fight corruption, restore intergrity in the judiciary and have Zambia at heart.

  6. This Great Son of zambia should be remember ,becoz it will take ages to have such a Leader again in Zambia,RB can boast that he is working hard becoz of the strong foundation by thius great Man.
Always Remembered and missed by a lot of Us.

    I personaly miss him alot

  7. Lets remember Levy for his targeted fight against corruption, his involvement in INDENI Oil scandal, his employment of relatives in Zesco and Ministry of Foreign Affair and a Primary School Teacher as Under-Secy in Cairo. There is nothing this guy did apart from enriching his relatives e.g Mpombo, Ronnie, Shakas and many others.

  8. He must be turning in his grave after all he did and stood for has been shelved or turned upside down. You only want to remember him when you want to hold to power or it win an election as it was said in Chifubu. You have all turned against him and all that he had started. You should have successfully prosecuted and locked up all the corrupt and thieving leadership!

  9. So RB and his cabinet have never thought of how to remember LPM since he died? Come on Ronnie, what sort of government are you a spokesman of?

  10. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE…Levy Patrick Mwanawasa has told me that HE DOES NOT EVER WANT TO BE REMEMBERED BY RUPIAH BANDA! AMEN!

  11. Mwanawasa has already been remembered through his legacy which was championed by George Mpombo in which he was also incacerated.
