SACCORD says govt is reckless

Share

Government’s absolute refusal to appeal against Lusaka High Court Judge Evans Hamaundu’s ruling on Frederick Chiluba’s London judgment has been described as recklessness.
The decision not to push this case any further when the ruling Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) is responsible for having initiated the case is an insult to Zambia.

Southern African centre for constructive resolution of disputes (SACCORD) Executive Director, lee Habasonda said that the decision taken by government on the ruling would leave a bad dent on government.

Mr Habasonda said that this is because of the fact that government, and then led by the late president; levy Patrick Mwanawasa instigated the case in London.

He questioned how the same MMD government now seems to be incapable of implementing and finishing what it started.

Mr Habasonda has, therefore, warned the MMD government of what lies ahead of them when they are out of power with the international criminal court of justice in existence.

He has also challenged government to explain to Zambians if the fight against corruption was only for the late president.

This is because it is the second time that government has refused to appeal on behalf of the general public against any ruling taken on Dr Chiluba’s controversial corruption cases.

  1. It is immoral and undemocratic to force a a costly and baseless appeal technically and evidently failed in an independent court of justice. The money worsted on these emotionally initiated cases could be better spent on national and social progress than stuffing it endless in the pocket of a cartel of dangerously incompetent junior lawyers has it has proved thusfar. The country has wasted so much money for no value but sustainining a cartel of lawyers. This whole circus has been a poor value for money we should never ever again subscribe to it ever. It was born out of political insecurity, emotions, and dangerous temper that has proved lethal and costly to lives. To admit flaws is humane and a sign of strength. Shoving a baseless appeal on the judiciary will be subverting national justice.

  2. I mean ” wasted and not worsted”

The money wasted on these emotionally initiated cases could go along way where it matters better than this nonsense.

  3. Its time we prudently applied every pen. Tell us why Blair and his brother Smith blocked their multi-billion Pounds “Saudi-BAE scandal” besides many they have been found wanting over the years. Who among the British leaders has been judged by a foreign court and is serving his jail term? They should take precedence over their crime in Sierra Leone blood diamonds and many crimes in their homeland instead of forcing us to keep wasting megre resources on useless cases without value for our money.

  4. Every penny matters to our people we cannot keep wasting any on fruitless cases initiated by personal battles. Hate groups can shove off and relocate to Taiwan it will be all a good riddance to this country which has no heart for the goose chase-in vanity.

  5. Senioe Citizen you are ashameless MMD cadre whose reasoning is as dead as a leaf. Senior Ctizen when are you going to standard for what you believe in as empty and shameless politics of poverty. You with other MMD cadres you were here on this blogg supporting the fight against corruption with your abosulte uncultured language as the one you are using now. Do you mean personal battles where between Levy and Chiluba or Chiluba and the same people (Zambians) you are teasing that our corrupt, clueless and crude govt is playing with like a ball. Chiluba’s corrupt and murderous activities have got nothing to do with Blair or Britain. Is this your justification to support this impy to loot the poorest? You are too brain washed to see through. Which penny are you talking about for Zambians?

  6. No.1 sorry but i do agree with you for the first time these lawyers just want to enrich themselves more with this Chiluba business we say no to the appeal this time around like it or not!

  7. Senior citizen , the british govt is not involved. I’m sure even you know that . You sound immature and thick!….How old are you ?
