Shikapwasha accuses Post Newspaper of double standards

Share

Chief governmment Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ronnie Shikapwasha

Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has expressed disappointment at the Post Newspaper for playing what he terms as double standards in covering political stories.

And Lieutenant General Shikapwasha has warned the Post against misleading people in their reporting because he expected the media in Zambia to be neutral in their reporting and not to be in the fore-front misleading the masses.

He observed that of late the Post Newspaper had played a role of being image builders of Patriotic Front/United Party for National Development (PF/UPND) Pact leaders Michael Sata and Hakainde Hichilema as well as some of the out-spoken civil society organisation chief executive officers.

Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, challenged the Post to display professional ethics when writing stories.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka, Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha said it was not true that Government had failed to address some of the contentious issues of political governance, economical and social issues but maintained that Government was on track because it was a listening Government.

The Minister said Government was aware of the double standards the Post was playing.

He complained that negative stories were written on President Rupiah Banda while PF/UPND Pact leaders Mr. Sata and Mr. Hichilema received good coverage instead of being fair in their reporting.

“Government is saddened and we are aware of the Post Newspaper in their reportage. The Post Newspaper is playing double standards in their reportage and it has become the image builders of PF/UPND Pact leaders Mr. Sata and Mr. Hichilema,” Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha said.

The Chief Government Spokesperson reminded the media on its role to educate, inform and entertain the masses describing it as a noble calling as opposed to exhibiting double standards.

Efforts to get Post Newspaper Managing Editor Amos Malupenga failed as his phone was just ringing.

Meanwhile, Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha disclosed that he would soon be meeting media heads to discuss the way forward noting that the forth coming 2011 tripartite elections are very critical to the development of the nation.

  1. Iwe ronnie why can`t you pass ther same sentiments on ZNBC.It is always pro Lupiya when it comes to coverage.Leave the post alone…

  2. Kaili RB has ZNBC, Daily Mail, Times and Zanis! today’s headline mu Post is on RB. Ronnie just shut your big mouth up coz thanks to you the Media profession is being suffocated. Put the Public media institutions into public hands and stop directing wat they write or air.

  3. Shikapwasha must be sincere with what he says. The majority of zambians have spoken againist the procument of mobile hospitals for example, but RB and some puppets have gone ahead. The post maybe not 100% in their reporting but it represents the views of the masses unlike the state run media.Shikapwasha must be reminded of the saying that ‘Not every thing that gliters is gold.’ RB will not be their for you 2moro.wake shikapwasha, kuyipa pa menso especially ‘mpunu’.

  4. The Sodomite(mmembe) is bahaving the way he is bahaving coz GRZ pulled the plug off his plunder conduit-zambian airways.

  5. If The Post, a very private newzpaper, iz said to be playing double standardz, then the Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and the ZNBC which are very public, tho government controlled, are playing unknown standardz.

  6. Mmembe has taken the moral high ground and is fond of pointing fingers at other people’s shotcomings, but he has many of his own. For example he condemned opposition leader Edith Nawakwi for having a child with her erstwhile polygamous common law husband Hambulo. He said as a political leader she set a bad example because unprotected sex was a driver of HIV infection.

  7. Malupenga please answer the phone. we need to have a response. are you trying to consult Mmembe on what to say. this time around you are the interviewee. how about that my man. it hurts heee, to be ignoring phone calls is a sign of cowardise of which the Post has never been known to be. kindly get back to the reporter who was paging you and give an answer.

  8. #9 continued
….What he neglected to mention was that he too has at least two (known) illegitimate children, the youngest of whom is with his casual partner at the Ministry of Justice. The child is now about five years old, much younger than Nawakwi’s daughter, meaning that while he was pointing fingers at Nawakwi, he was also having unprotected sex with a woman who was not his wife.

  9. #11 continued
….It is only these later years that Mmembe has stopped picking up muzungu backpackers (whom he used to employ as ‘sub-editors’) and muzungu women and men from the workshops he used to attend. All these lived with him in the house in Sable road. He might have been using condoms but the fact is he had many concurrent partners, a driver for HIV infection.

  10. ala bane. Why didnt RB condemn the Post when they Supported (MHSRIP) LPM in 2006 and discredited Sata. were they not double standards too? they only becomes double standards when they are working against you. SHAME ON YOU. YOU SEEM NOT TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR WHO YOU ARE TALING TO.

  11. # 12 continued
Mmembe has often made insulting remarks about Chiluba having stolen his wife Regina from her husband. Recently he did the same thing. His present wife Mutinta wwas married to a cancer victim, she got a quick divorce (just like Regina). But she was already two months pregnant-meaning that while she was married, she was having unprotected sex with Mmembe.

  12. The Post is most biased paper ful of meddling lies.they wil not even cover the official opening of chipata-mchinji rail commissioning yet they claim to cover people’s interest while furthering selfish agenda.infact,it could be good to ban the same hopeless Post.

  13. The Post is not biased in it’s coverage like government tabloids. The only contentious issue about the Post is that it calls a spade a spade. It does not call a kettle white when it is black.Shikapwasa should analyse the contents of the Post before he can open his big mouth. His propaganda media of communication are so biased towards Banda. ZNBC news is full of nothing but pieces of feaces and trash. It does not deserve to be called news.It is just a heap of garbage put together. And you call that news. The news readers are not professionals. The quality of picture is very antique and yet we dish out tax in form of k3000s. What a waste of a viable institution!Keep your dirty and contaminated hands away from Post. You have failed to run your propaganda media.GIVE A BREAK…

  14. V.J RIGGER and ILA gallantines good lucky in yr anti Post/Mmembe rants.

  15. ILa gallantians #15 please stop buying or reading the Post…keep with your ZNBC, Times and Daily and leave us alone with the Post ala iwe!!

  16. Shika, you say you a listening goverment, what a joke. The Zambian pipo wanted a constitution through the constitutency assembly, did we get it? No, what we got is the useless ncc. The Zambian pipo want the president to win 50+1 vote, did we get it? Does the government controlled media say anything positive about the opposition leaders? Let your grz controlled media build you while the private ones build the image of the opposition. You are saying that the 2011 general elections are critical to nation development, they are more critical to you and your family cos when mmd losses next year you might end up in jail.

  17. THE HON. LT. GEN. REV. R. SHIKAPWASHA HAS TO FULFILL HIS ROLE AS HIS MASTER’S VOICE ONLY. KNOWING HIM AS I DO, MANY A TIME I WONDER WHETHER OR NOT IT IS ACTUALLY HIM OFFLOADING SOME OF THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH. ANYWAY HE HAS HIS OWN INTERESTS RO PROTECT. BUT FOR HOW LONG? LET THE MEDIA GO AHEAD TO INFORM THE PUBLIC WITHOUT INTIMIDATION.

  18. V.J.Rigger u seem so deeply interested in Mmembe s private life-Why? are u a Shushushu. I dont like or agree with Ronnie Shika, but will never be interested in his private life.I suggest u get a life!!!

  19. To shikapwasha anyone who does not sing praises for him and his boss is an enemy and biased. i dont see how any sane person would call MMD a listening government. this is why this ***** is determined to control all media houses in Zambia so they can all behave like his vuvuzelas, the times and daily mail plus ZNBC. i hate to know that i pay tv licence indirectly. the day will surely come for these thieves. i feel pity for RB. these people will never try to defend him once he’s out of office.

  20. THE HON. LT. GEN. REV. R. SHIKAPWASHA HAS TO FULFILL HIS ROLE AS HIS MASTER’S VOICE ONLY. KNOWING HIM AS I DO, MANY A TIME I WONDER WHETHER OR NOT IT IS ACTUALLY HIM OFFLOADING SOME OF THE WORDS THAT COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH. ANYWAY HE HAS HIS OWN INTERESTS TO PROTECT. BUT FOR HOW LONG? LET THE MEDIA GO AHEAD TO INFORM THE PUBLIC WITHOUT INTIMIDATION.

  21. # 4, 7, 11, 12, if you need a brain transplant-we can organise for you. it pains us to see zambians who have no brains like their master RB and his vuvuzela Shikapwasha. Zambia will be a bottomless pity without the Post.

  22. The Post is surely biased in its reporting, some of us saw it a long time ago, how could Ronnie not see it earlier.

  23. Ronnie, U have total control of the Government Controlled, State (MMD) Owned media. Most of us have stopped watching ZNBC bcause it’s predictable in news content. 1. RB 2. George Kunda’s nonsense 3. Mulogoti 4. Mabenga. 5. Thandiwe 6. Edward Mumbi. 7. Guston Sichilima 8. VJ 9. William Banda. God help us. What a series of f.o.o.l.i.s.h line up. So leave the POST alone. Ichimona ala.

  24. Iwe chi ChiShikapwasha what about Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily mail and Zambia National Broadcasting (ZNBC)? Are they not biased in favour of Movement for Mass Destruction (MMD)? Ndiye usilu manje uyu. Endani chabe ku Chainama mwankhwala yaliko Baba.

  25. On “He complained that negative stories were written on President Rupiah Banda while PF/UPND Pact leaders Mr. Sata and Mr. Hichilema received good coverage instead of being fair in their reporting” it is clear that Lt Gen Hon MP Minister R. Shikapwasha is day-dreaming about the PF/Sata vuvuzela’s, The POST Newspaper’s, coverage of HH which is badly terrible.

This is why it is now common knowledge that HH told the POST reporter that he, HH, will not give the POST reporter concerned any news to write about.

To well-meaning Zambians, I would encourage you to consider buying the smaller Newspaper companies’ daily/weekly news to get the real news of event happening in Zambia as well as the GRZ media newspapers.

You will appreciate the real news from those outlets.

    Be…

  26. #3 Baba
I missed it. We need such good scientific reports from your source. I would appreciate if you could give us a link to the source of the poll that showed that a ‘the majority of zambians have spoken againist the procument of mobile hospitals for example.’
Thanks. It will be very helpful.

  27. The General would have done better to give an example of the ‘double standards.’ I think he means ‘biased.’ Double standards means that they say one thing in one situation but the opposite in another of the same nature. It is shameful when a Minister complains about reportage of an independent news paper. Pat Robertson’s CBS News is always against Obama and the liberal left. The duty of government is to concetrate on doing the right thing. Listen to criticism, evaluate it and if there is some sense in it, change. Call their bluff. Why does RB always think that if it is the Post, then it must be bad. You can learn a lot from your enemy. Dr LPM did this and look what happened!

  28. The General is a wrong person for this job. He is a good man, but this job is definitely beyond his depths. They need a very clever and articulate person for this job and top of my list would be Muhabi Lungu and Chiluba’s Mwamba. These gentlemen are good PR persons and Lungu literally rehabilitated KK’s public image and Mwamba has done very well defending Chiluba.

  29. The Challege we have as country is to have a very objective media, whilst the Post has its own short comings, one would have expected that the GRZ media to do better, but the are competing in what one could call character wrecking! The GRZ media must be accountable to the people not the politicians!

  30. What are you disappointed with Hon Ronnie? Everyone knows what the new, mmembe’s Post has become …. scu.m of the lowest order in the animal hierarchy.

  31. 4, 7 and others, those are answers u give when u are beaten pants down. Did Mmembe ever tell anyone not to have sex? I agree you need a brain transplant, you cant focus on relevant issues, can you? Wabe e to.le.

  32. chitumbuwa wot sort of name is that? walipena iwe ayi? justice mune relax i love you voyi. u seem cool. areu a woman? i can chow u exay tok to me

  33. Shikapwasha is that when you are realising that the POST are the official image bulders for Mr Sata? I hope Times and Daily are doing enough for Banda.

  34. #21 and #25 spot on..Without the Post the patriotic zambians would be lost. #VJ rigger you are sick, actually its senior citizen/mwata in disguise, you aint that smart, you stink and can br smelt 6000miles away. Your obssession with Mmembe will only finish you. Leave him alone, he is only doing what he does best. If you dont like the Post, dont buy it atase! go buy vima daily mail and times. Chishikapwasha, actually the majority of zambians only tune to znbc for kabanana, then tune to Muvi and most have DStv.

  35. The general has missed the point again .The Post is Vuvuzela for SATA and not HH. IT does not cover HH.Mmembe and the post are promoting tribalism in Zambia. For Amos you an ***** that Zambia does not need .Gen all what you need to do is arrest Mmembe ,for get about the donors you have already demonstrated that you can do it , a good example is chuluba case.Post is the second useless paper from the daily and times of Zambia

  36. #16 that is where you have refused to think and allowed mmembe to think for you and, worse still for a man, influence your whole thinking process. I don’t know when you started reading the post or indeed any other newspaper, but you should know by now that post is not the same paper that we all relied on for facts and good information. It is now simply a propaganda paper and they do it better than what you allege of the state media, because they have found gullible readers like you. Their mission now is to influence your thinking, install a leader of their choice (not your choice or mine) and control government. And in the meantime of course make neat sales and a nice profit. All humans have choice in their lives, but don’t blame anyone when you wake up to what the post really is.

  37. In other words, the modern world is not a place where everything is neat and nicely packaged ready for you to use, it is not a simple 1+1=2. Your brain was designed to be like a computer so use it, you have to constantly analyse everything in your life including newspapers because everything is constantly changing, people’s objectives are changing, newspapers stand for this today and tomorrow that. Hatred of certain people is your worst enemy because you will not believe them even when they warn you of danger. So keep an open mind my friend, Ronnie has a point, don’t trash it before you understand the dynamics.
