Magande, Mpombo were given chance

Education minister Dora Siliya visits the poor in her constituency in Petauke

MMD Spokesperson Dora Siliya said expelled Chilanga Member of Parliament Ng’andu Magande and his Kafulafuta counterpart George Mpombo were given a chance to exculpate themselves before they were expelled from ruling party.

Ms Siliya who is also Education Minister said Mr Magande did not bother to respond while Mr Mfpombo’s defence was unsatisfactory.

She said this at a press briefing in Lusaka, today.

Ms Siliya explained that Mr Magande and Mr Mpombo were expelled in order to instil discipline among MMD party members.

And Ms Siliya said only President Rupiah Banda has the authority to announce the date for the tripartitie elections.

Ms Siliya was reacting to calls for early elections by Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata.

She said Mr Sata should realise that the MMD has a lot of experience in winning elections.

Mr Sata has been quoted in Monday’s edition of the Post Newspaper as calling for early elections.

  1. hey dora keep up the good job u r doin and well said on MMDs experience in winning elections! infact there is ONLY one party in zambia who has won all presidential elections in the history of our country! people want MMD!

  2. #1&3 Zambians are going to change the ruling party next year. Since 1964, we continue leaving in a one party kind of affairs no wonder poverty levels keep on increasing every year. his time arround we ae saying enough is enough !!!!!!

    1st Republic…………….UNIP no change
    2nd Republic…………….UNIP no change
3rd Republic……………..MMD no change up to 2011 only

My fellow zambians it is time we changed the gvt from one party participatory democracy which we have had since independence.

  3. #1 Obtuse – The only election MMD have won is the 1991 one. The rest have needed state machinery to win. And its not only MMD but Unip(Dora’sParty also been in power.

  4. Bo Dora Siliya, just shut up and keep up with the good work of cheating of those who fail to analyse things exactly the way they are. Whom can u cheat today to say Magande and Mpombo were expelled from MMD because of indiscipline ? Do u think we are blind enough not to see what is happening ? The simplest reason why u as NEC arrived at expelling the two is because they wanted to challenge your employer, your boss at the convention. So if you are a democratic MMD, where is the good practice of democracy in your party ? My only advice to u and your fellow MMD thungs is God Almighty who created the many Zambians whom u are trying to cheat is watching and that your days are numbered, mina masholi.

  5. Just be patient, according to our constitution the general elections are scheduled to be held next year 2011. Then everyone will have a chance to contest (or contest again for some people). Tell Sata that in Zambia we do not hold elections every 90 days.

  6. Mr Sata, instead of calling for early elections, maybe we should organise our PACT and select a presidential candidate. That will require more than 90 days of preparatory work and healing the after effects. Imagine what would happen to our PACT in the event that H.E.R.B. responded favourably and called for presidential elections today.

  7. Mr. Mpombo and Mr. Magande were once very senior in MMD, but just how they have turned aganist the finger that fed them noone knows. Mr. Mpombo at one time was shown kneeling on the floor to great LPM (MHSRIP) and the post sacastically wrote bad about this. Today Mpombo is the mouth piece of the Post. Please friends lets pray for mother Zambia to remain at peace even after 2011. these elders are a disappointment

  8. Very funny that Minister Dora issued such terrible remarks as coming from the MMD NEC.

In a related development, the PF/Sata MC/cobra vuvuzela, the POST, has decided to start covering the mighty UPND Group after failing to bring down the man of the moment HH who is also UPND 2011 presidential candidate. Thus, the Sata MC Vuvuzela reported that ““The MMD can push Zambians to a certain level but not beyond. It is not right, people must be free to express themselves, of course it’s not only us that are watching, Zambians are watching what is happening,” [UPND Hon Mwiinilunga MP S.] Katuka reminded… [and] further said the UPND would use the expulsion as a campaign tool as it exposes the dictatorial tendencies of the MMD’s top leadership

This is how sober minds speak…

  9. Dora to the contrary its mpombo and magande who gave u chance to quit your outdated UNIP tactics but found that u are incorrigible.Just wait for 2011 . Every sane Zambian know that u think UNIP ,Smell UNIP ,work culture is UNIP,behaviour is UNIP and lastly u stink UNIP we cant forget that smell.ABASH UNIPISTS!!!! Zwaaa

  10. #12 UPND must be very desperate for some publicity. Maestro thinks that a small quote from a UPND MP in the post that has been ignoring and belittling the party for so long deserves a mention. How sad for UPND. Why mungolimbilila anzanu?

  11. I havent bothered to read the story but i presume its about Dora giving chance to Magande and Mpombo, its sad they failed to rise to your open invitation madam, they do not have any balls, sorry.

  12. This current crop of MMD leaders ,acts first and thinks later simply because of big mpuno wants things done his way , but remember big mpuno was never a founding member of MMD and by that i seriously doubt if he has even read the MMD party constitution .
Which clearly states that a MMD NEC needs to be re elected every 5 years and the last NEC was voted in , between july 13 and 17th 2005 which means that this current NEC has actualy over stayed its mandate which constitutionaly (MMD) expired on july 17th 2010 , so the NEC that conveined to expell Mpombo and mangande actauly in leagal tearms has no mandate . so this is the window opening that they the MMD did not realise when expelling these two MP’s and as such will bite them in the MATAKO’s

  13. Zambians, do you know how many people above the age of 18 who are in Zambia that lacks the intellect to understand and process issues of this nation for them to make an informed decision. It is that very factor the m0r0ns running the MMD govt. thrive on. 80% are affected. Most of these people it is not their choosing. You have the President’s Chick, after so many months in govt. now she wants to go and help.
An interesting fact!!!!!! I was in Chipata in May, and I meet several interesting characters. More than 5 times I was told how great President Band is. Because of his effort travelling up and down, he has managed to negotiate and bring the World Cup 2010 nearby in South Africa. I would rather give a grade 7 child doing Social Studies to vote than this misplaced senior citizens.

  15. Dora, we know it is all in line with empowering your fellow Easterners. it is sad your brother or… RB He is telling the nation that only people like you from the east are the bright ones. I am sure you are thinking of a Banda or a Lungu for Chilanga MP. Go on putting your tribes’ mate in the key positions we are watching you. I am sure the university is based in Chipata, which is producing all the best cadidates for all strategic positions in the nation. You have managed to polarize this country, congrats for that. pass my regards to the Lusaka Head man, William Banda.
