Pact collapse due to selfish motives – Siliya

MMD chairperson for information and publicity Dora Siliya has said the pact formed last year by United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema and Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata has collapsed because it was formed for selfish motives.

Ms Siliya also said condemnation of the recent visit to Northern Province by First Lady Thandiwe Banda was out of ignorance because every first lady had the right to donate to the vulnerable people in society.

At a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Siliya said the pact lacked a long term vision and a plan of action on how it would deal with the politics of ethnicity and as a result, it had been reduced to a tribal pact.

Ms Siliya, who is Minister of Education, said at its formative stage, the pact leaders did not have a joint action plan to deliver development to the Zambian people but rushed into announcing even without proper regard for the grassroot members.

Ms Siliya said the first week the pact was formed, the two leaders started calling for votes and launched the alliance without announcing their road-map, manifesto and vision which showed how short sighted the two leaders are.

She said the two political parties were tribal and had remained so even after the formation of the pact which had led to its demise.

Ms Siliya said two leaders coming together for the sole purpose of gaining power would always clash as they seek to appropriate power between themselves.

She said the PF and UPND were simply tribal parties and the ruling party was the only genuine political party whose manifesto addresses the needs of the whole nation.

Ms Siliya said the pact lacked true leadership that could unite all tribes in the country and had remained strong in a selected number of provinces without a proper explanation from the leadership.

She said the fact was they remained strong in a selected number of provinces because they campaigned on tribal lines while the MMD was constructing infrastructure throughout Zambia.

The minister said political parties and civil society organisations sympathetic to the opposition were condemning Government and yet the international community was praising Government efforts in delivering development to the people.

She was optimistic Zambians would start ignoring them because they were able to see huge infrastructure development such as health centres, schools and roads being constructed.

Ms Siliya said the Government had decided to construct five health centres in the high density areas of Lusaka as it seeks further plans to reduce distances from one health centre to another.

The minister said 23 district hospitals were being constructed throughout Zambia.
Meanwhile, Ms Siliya dismissed assertions that the national executive committee had become illegal on account of the expiry of its mandate.

She said the MMD constitution allows the NEC to function in-between conventions to provide continuity.

She said letters had been authored and Mr Mpombo and Mr Magande should have received by now and they were no longer members of the MMD.

  1. Ba Dollar, please concentrate on unifying the mmd into a formidable force to withstand the heat which will be exerted by PF in the coming months!

  2. #2,it seems LT is too lazy to go out there in the field and write their own stories. Copy and Paste is what they know best.

  3. I thought that was MMD’s dream to see a fragmented opposition? So what is Dora talking about. Talking about selfishness even MMD is not spared. Because if they were truly democratic they would have simply allowed any to challenge for any position. So it is question of Teapot calling a Kettle black

  4. I think this blog must be sensored to avoid *****s like Number 7 participating. Chi number 7 Musata Nyoko. You stinking baboon. Why do you insult elderies. ? No manners. Mwanya na chi PACT chanu. Go and ****y yourself, mbuzi iwe. VIVA RB VIVA MMD. Madam Dora we support you mama and movement is winning big time. To hell with tribal parties.

The fact is Dora shud concentrate on advising kamwendo munjila banda 2 stop galavanting around the world like vasco da gama

  7. But I wonder why PF has many votes in Lusaka and copperbelt the only interribal regions….
According to dolla lusaka and copperbelt are Bemba regions.

its plain clear that PF gets fewer votes in Luapula and Northen province than he gets in Lusaka and copperbelt. So why labeling PF tribal just coz Sata is Bemba?

Just prepare yourself madam 2011 here it comes….MMD-thugs are out

Madam dola please think before you spit your inspid words.

  8. Never mind these attention seekers like #7. Just ignore them by flagging them down and they will be deleted. I think too much ukulala golf hence, ukusabaila.

  11. dora is quality and woman of substance. she is young and a success story which you pipo who insult her can never reach her level. she is beautiful very educated and among the few female cabinet ministers. can you compare your ugly and illiterate wives to dora. ama jealousy

  12. Speaking at a press conference to day- Radio 4 ZNBC- Dora said MMD- NOT GRZ –are happy with Thandiwes efforts of distributing food and money in Nothern and Luapula Province. My question is why MMD and not government. The same phools have been accusing Maurinee Mwanawasa of misuse of her position using the MMI and yet they kept quiet when LPM was alive.

  13. Though i am also fed-up with Doras verbal vomit i think she is right on this one. The pact between UPND and PF can’t work because they are very diffrent parties with different aspirations.UPND is very much of a tribal party with both educated and illiterates Tongas backing it and PF is also a tribal party with mostly old bembas but draws a lot of support from marketeers, idlers, loafers and kaponyas who want alot of free money in their pockets(whatever it means) and honestly to reconcile these groups is a tall order especially if u spice it up with undemocractic selfish leaders.IT IS A BOMB!!!

  14. Dollar.
Can you account for WHO’s money thandiwe is spending?

Nobody knows who’s money she is donating and to clear up all foreign wives(as democratic countries will already know how much was given) Zambia needs to know was Thandiwe BOUGHT like chiluba and must act and give away the money to gain an image.

  15. No 7 in as much as you insult Dora, you are doing it to yourself. If only you knew that she does not even read those comments. The fact is she is a minister and you are not.

  16. Bottom Power Dora, shut your mouth if you have nothing better to say. You can well see that RB is destroying the MMD and you talk about pack breaking or personalities of the pack leader you in MMD are not better off you are just thieves. Come 2011 they will be a change of government in Zambia, your riggers will fail you. Look at the fate of the zamtel workers given only one month’s notice in lieu salary and not the promised 20 months salary. What type of people are you, you got your cut from the sale and now others are suffering.

  17. Agreed Dora. You are one hell of a spokeswoman, intelligent, hardworking, knowledgeable and confident unlike some of your counterparts elsewhere. You have really put these vuvuzelas under pressure and they are feeling the heat hence the insults.

  18. While we appreciate she is a mouth piece of MMD, why can’t she stop talking about the opposition. It is common sense she is scared of the Pact. Sometimes it is wise to let sleeping dogs lie. Her atterances will not stop Zambians from making the right decision come 2011. MMD has a lot of issues on the table ranging from leadership to court cases. I suggest she consults widely before wasting tax payers money talking about the Pact. People want to hear how mobile hospitals will work, when the new constitution will be ready, when roads will be repaired, how the carbon tax is being utilised, whether or not recently increased Zesco tarriffs are bearing fruit. It hurts for the minister to waste our valuable time talking about retardation. Internet pollution is too much.

  19. ‘Bishop Duffy being used’

WESTERN Province MMD provincial chairperson Simasiku Namakando has said an opposition political party is using Mongu Catholic Diocese Bishop Paul Duffy to discredit and de-campaign the ruling party in the in province.

Reacting to the Catholic cleric’s statement that the people of western province no longer want the MMD Mr Namakando said the province is solidly behind the ruling party.

  20. “First of all we know Bishop Duffy as a Catholic priest and not as the spokesperson of the people of Western Province,” he said.

He said most of the constituencies in the province are held by the MMD which was proof that the party was in control.

Mr Namakando said the ruling party in the province was aware that some members of some opposition political party were using Bishop Duffy.

“He (Bishop Duffy) is a respected old man and he should just retire with the honour the people of the province have always given him,” he said.

  21. The provincial chairperson said the ruling party had remained strong in the province because of the various development projects that President Rupiah Banda’s Government was undertaking.

He said for a long time the people of the province had been complaining of the poor state of most of the roads in the province.

“But now the roads have been dome so what else will the people cry for,” he said.
He said Bishop Duffy had outlived his usefulness.

  22. Meanwhile, a Lozi traditionalist from Mongu Nyambe Ikabondo Mwiya said it is wrong for the Catholic Church to take sides to the extent of using foreigners without constitutional suffrage rights.

“What the Bishop (Duffy) is doing is very bad, as a Catholic myself I will now not be comfortable if our priest starts speaking partisan politics,” he said.

At the weekend Bishop Duffy was quoted in a daily tabloid saying the people of Western Province want change and no longer want the MMD.

  23. Chi MWATA It doesnt matter how many postings you make the truth should Dora is the last person to talk about thr Unity in the PACT

  24. Mwata there is nothing wrong with Fr duffy. You are simply gettig blinded by loyalties. The church has always being for masses in country and in most cases they are right because they have fair way of getting their facts not the propagandist, jaundiced way our politicians use.The church is like a mirror if you are ugly or dirty it will not hide.So wake up Bro-the truth right in front of you-take it or leave it is fact!!! Wish you luck and many more sweet dreams.!!!!

  25. mutoba kongwe your dick has venereal warts you are sick thats why you think of infecting others. poverty at work especially in jburg were you felas have turned into criminals stealing from zambians who come to buy cars. you connive with southafricans shame ba mutoba

  26. #35 ICEBERG – Problem with people like Mwata batasha kalimwitobo. When the Post was attacking Unip it was a darling of all MMD cadres. The same with the Church- it worked hard with Zambians for the re introduction of Multiparty Democracy and MMD was happy. Today the same organizations are branded un patriotic when they point out the injustices Zambians are experiencing under MMD. What MMD should know is that the Church did not fight for the CHANGE of GOVERNMEN it fought for CHANGE IN GOVERNANCE. So if MMD is behaving like Unip or even worse should the Church keep quiet? No. MMD change and the Church will be on your side.

  27. here is bad news for all those that dream of MMD leaving office in 2011, The MMD is becoming stronger in Lusaka as time goes on. please cool down before you have heart attacks when the silly and selfish opposition you are supporting looses again. many hard working people are coming to the realisation that MMD means well for all. only the lazy, illiterate and tribal people think that PF will make things better for them. insulting Dora will not change anything as she is just part of the hard working team of MMD compariots such as Bo Situmbeko Musokotwane, Ba Felix Mutati, Dr. Caleb Fundaga, Brigadier General Dr. Brian Chitubo, Maxwell Mwale, Prof. Lungwangwa and many more including of course RB. the sooner you realise that the better for your health!!!!!

  28. LISTEN BA PF IN CHILILABOMBWE A COUNCIL DOMINATED BY PF TODAY AN MMD CANDIDATE DEFEATED A PF CANDIDATE IN MAYORAL ELECTIONS. SHE WAS VOTED FOR BY PF MEMBERS AN INDICATION THAT PF COLLAPSED

  29. Mhhh bane ….what inroads has MMD made in Lusaka and copperbelt?

I doubt it…since MMD is completly finished in these two places.

    hehehe…

  30. Police warn and caution GBM

Police in Lusaka Wednesday morning recorded a warn and caution statement against thuggery Patriotic Front Kasama Central member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba (GBM).GBM is alleged to have physically assaulted his wife, Chama, to the extent where she has been hospitalized.

The huge GBM is reported to have used fists to clobber a helpless wife. But when summoned by Woodlands police today, GBM vainly turned up with buses loaded with PF hooligans. The police however managed to interview him and record a warn and caution statement, pre-requisite before a formal arrest is made.

  31. How much has the mining Industry contributed to the Countries coffers in 2009 and 2010. Only a F.OOL will be hipping praises on the Mining Companies who externalise 100% revenue through dubious purchases, contracts and cheap outsourced labour. What a tired I.DIOT!!!! 2011 ZWAAA!!!

  32. and so there you have it; a society full of sexist, intolerant, ignorant, myopic, backward and insecure and likely sexually inadequate males who become completely frenzied and irrational whenever confronted by the threat of beauty , power and brains of women like Dora.

  33. NONSENSE TALK BY DORA, I THINK SHE SHOULD GO BACK TO ZNBC AND READ THE 19.00HOURS NEWS AS NO SANE PERSON WATCHES THE ZNBC ANYMORE THESE DAYS AS EVERYBODY LIKES TO WATCH THE BBC OR SKY & CNN.SHE CAN MAKE AS MUCH AS NOISE SHE WANTS TO BECAUSE HARDLY ANYBODY WOULD BE LISTENING TO HER TO HER LOUD NOISE.VIVA PF VIVA UPND.

  34. Ba Dola, you are truly obssessed by PF/UPND – is that what it means to be MMD spokesperson? To wake up each day and talk about PACT this PACT that? Maybe ma ARVs akukola ungo bwetuka-bwetuka monga udwala mashabe.
