UPND and PF call for early elections

The United Party for National Development, UPND, has joined Patriotic Front President, Michael Sata, in calling for President Rupiah Banda to call for an early election next year.

UPND Secretary General, Winstone Chibwe, told QFM in an interview this morning that even if the UPND was not consulted by the PF leader to call on President Banda to call for an early election, the UPND has always been ready for a tripartite election as well.

Mr. Chibwe said the fact that the UPND has been participating in every by-election is a clear indication that the party is always ready for an election at any given time.

He said it was for this reason that the party is in the business of politics to form government.

Patriotic Front President, Michael Sata, said in Kitwe over the weekend that President Rupiah Banda should call for an early election next year because the PF is ready to go to the polls.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chibwe has welcomed October 28 as the date set for the Mpulungu by-election.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia yesterday announced October 28 as the polling day for the Mpulungu parliamentary seat which fell vacant following the death of MMD parliamentarian, Lameck Chibombamilimo.

Mr. Chibwe said the UPND finds no problem with the set date because it is timely, and that the election will be held before the rainy season.

He said the party stands ready to see how events will progress from now up to that polling day because the date is within the confinements of the law.

  1. Just why should we have early elections? Just to satisfy power hungry clowns? Tell us your plans to develop this country and sort out the mess in the pact.

  2. The question is,have you prepared manifestos and explained them to the people how attainable they are?the answer is a resounding NO hence expect another defeat.

  3. First sort out the problems in the pact then call for elections, Sata alone will lose HH alone will lose. Do not cheat yourselves.
Nyama soya Kamwendo munila will keep on trecking Vasco da Banda Lord have mercy please take him early twakupapata.
Their is no Hope Zambia Pact is falling Mwadya mweka keeps on stealling and cheating in broad day light katwishi kay kaya kaya Zimbabwe Part 5

  4. I mean they could have sugarcoated the reason as something like ‘peoples wish’. So by the same reasoning if they turned out not to be ready next year they will call for the election to be delayed. Our oppsition is full of amateur jokers

  5. Early bloggers, looks like you have not seen the significance of this report.
What the two leaders of the Pact, i.e. PF leader Sata and UPND Spokesperson Chibwe, are saying is that each of their parties is ready for presidential elections not as a Pact but as individual parties. See? What I don’t understand is why the UPND and PF keep confirming that the Pact is in fact dead, a fact which we already know. Are they not courageous enough to issue a statement to that effect and remove all shades of doubt among their members?

  6. So are the two perpertual losers confirming that they are selfish and power hungry after all?
And what are early elections for anyway when both of you know that you will be beaten clean?

  7. #8 You are very right. UPND were caught unawares when bigh mouth Sata called for early elections and now they feel they also have to jump into the boat and show that they also have a paddle. Either way, it looks like UPND is just following PF like a little puppy dog. This is also a good way for them to distract themselves from the contentious issue of the pact presidency because they know full well that if RB were to call for an early election now, both parties would be buggered. It is also a blatant lie that they ‘are ready’, when both of them dont even have a manifesto and have not spoken about policy or policy formulation for months.

  8. awe i still remember my days of chowing vanamayo, awe it was one of the best i ever got. yali nona i think ni fi experience bane. but size matters in such situations, bane. deuc es

  9. This is going to go the same way as the impeachment process against RB – remember that fiasco? And then somebody will come up and tell me ati ‘Sata gets things done’!!!

  10. Have you noticed how Mr Sata is always ready for a general eRection but has never ever been ready for a party convention in more than 10 years. Quite a curious stance……

  11. sata libollo atishani mune? ya voyi woch out, there is some rotten eggs on site. va fipwele they reported me 5 times and deleted my post. natukwata ama haters. deuces and be careful

  12. UPND is definately ready to wallop PF and MMD, people of Zambia have assured HH that they will vote for him in 2011. Where ever he went he was assured of massive support. Well spoken SG. You know what you’re talking about.

  13. “the UPND has always been ready for a tripartite election as well” quote.

Mr. Chibwe said “the fact that the UPND has been participating in every by-election is a clear indication that the party is always ready for an election at any given time”.

-Patriotic Front’s Michael Sata, said in Kitwe over the weekend that President Rupiah Banda should call for an early election next year because the PF is ready to go to the polls” Quote.

Though baseless, this circus has continued hallucinating kaah!

  14. SATA L.i.t.o.l.e. How can he be ready when he has never been ready for a convention 11 years down memory lane. Whoever follows this tr.ash is also Li.to.le. Imagine ‘educated ‘ people behind SataN who cant even make him reflect on simple issues of democracy. Ka Winter Kabimba ka nephew has never won a tangible case in court was appointed to be Sec Gen bypassing think tanks like Dr. Mulenga. It is for this reason that i doubt the intelligency of Given Lubinda. Surely is He going tocontinue with this circus. atleast SAKI saw beforehand the devil in SataN. And now ka HH want to pretend to be ready when deep down his heart knows very well that he will never ever win an election now not even in hell. he was sponsored by three parties but still tumbled. Sata was sponsored by two but failed too

  15. Reading bloggers’ contributions above, I am happy that most bloggers resident in Zambia are very civilised as compared to the diaspora chaps. Most diaspora chaps can’t even intellegently argue an issue, let alone write good English/or any Language. All they know are insults. Now, imagine if these chaps had to go home and become leaders. The whole country would be poluted.

  16. # 23
Thos of us staying in diaspora do not use english in our day to day lives, thats why our English is bad.
The other thing is Zambians away from Zed think they are very safe from shushus that’s why they say all kind of shit. Others think they will never go back home so they can say what they want they just dont care anymore. Most of us have suffered from cultural erosion, in the cultures we are now operatiing their is no such thing as an insult. But Home is home culture identity is very very important if you dont know where you came from then you dont know where are going. Respect for Elders in our Zambian culture is very important napela bane good night, for the americans good day

  17. Mr. Sata is ready for a general election but never ready for a convention in his party of which he has undemocratically been president for 10 years (and counting) now.

And is this a credible reason for calling an early election? “Because we are ready”, is that really a credible reason?

  18. As for the erections as I said before HH alone, he is not going anywhere same applys to King Cobra. The MMD have really worked hard to reduce the Pact slowly they are managing. But leaders of the pact are too block headed to see that.
If things keep on in this direction the POOR will become POORER and the few rich, Lazo Kafupi, big nose Silya to mention but a few will become richer by the day, by stealling the loans they are getting from china. aaaaa who cares!!!!

People like you make me feel sick you always talk about economical growth, two weeks ago I was in my home town i felt like crying Roads are very very bad I did not see any growth, just 5 years ago the town was looking very fine. 60 % of the tax come from that place but no development zero, and some one here is trying to cheat us at there is development my ass mybe in your pockets and your rich families.

  20. @ #28 Walyako

I don’t care if I make you feel sick. Who are you that I should be worried whether I make you sick or not.

Economic growth is there. You have just refused to see it. Everyone else (including EAZ, World Bank, IMF) have commended govt for the good economic development that is taking place. You cannot fix all the nations problems in 90 days as some politicians will have you believe. Economic growth is a process and it is happening whether you like it or not.

  21. Police warn and caution GBM

Police in Lusaka Wednesday morning recorded a warn and caution statement against thuggery Patriotic Front Kasama Central member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba (GBM).GBM is alleged to have physically assaulted his wife, Chama, to the extent where she has been hospitalized.

The huge GBM is reported to have used fists to clobber a helpless wife. But when summoned by Woodlands police today, GBM vainly turned up with buses loaded with PF hooligans. The police however managed to interview him and record a warn and caution statement, pre-requisite before a formal arrest is made.

  22. cont from #29

Is your home town run by a PF council by any chance. I seem to recall that sometime back you posted a blog stating you are from Chingola. That should be a PF stronghold. Here is a piece of information I find interesting about Chingola,

“In the case of the Chingola council, only two percent (K202 million) of the K13.9 bn allocated in 2008 went towards service provision and infrastructure development while K3.2billion went to personal emoluments.”
(Lusaka Times, PF councillors: More money into their pockets, April 22nd 2010)

That is were your money for roads in your council is.

Typical of the MMD, always daydreaming, but no tangible projects to talk about. Now wonder this I.DIOT of a President is always flying everywhere hoping Zambia was in all those Countries he visits week in week out. From where seat, MMD have done ****ALL, the reason they’ve no reason to even have 1 vote. Register en mass and let’s vote n BIG Numbers

  24. They want early elections because they are affraid RB’s projects in rural areas will complete mid next year thus giving him all he needs to win with over 50% of the vote!

    Shame!

  25. Zambia is for all Zambians, PF/UPND can demand early elections – its every Zambian’s right to do/request what they see is good for the country. MMD is full of cowards, especially those ministers giving blind loyalty to lupiya for fear of losing the job (and remember being a politician is not a profession or career, its just a service – where once out they cannot go to RSA and say “I need to get a job as a politician”).

  26. CHI SATANA IS JUST BROKE HE KNOWS THAT WHEN ELECTIONS ARE CALLED HE’LL JUSTIFY HIS REQUEST FROM TROUBLE MAKERS IN TAIWAN WHO ARE HIS SPONORS.HH IS BLINDLY SUPPORTING RUBBISH AS USUAL……UNDER FIVE MENTALITY ,CHANGE YOUR NAPPIES BADALA!

  27. UPND should not involve themselves in calling for early elections becuase everyone knows that the President would not do such a thing. I think they should refrain from following the footsteps of PF Sata. Silence is Gold most times

  28. Sleepy, wapped and unintelligent zambians, you claim to be living in a democracy but there is one despot who can’t even hold elections in his party but you look up to him for leadership.i mean chi sata

  29. The moment we realise that there is no democracy in Zambia then we will appreciate that we have debating clubs in the name of political parties.. MMD appear to be ”strong” because of access to state resources, the opposition on the other hand depend on their leaders (wamuyaya), asking or demanding for a convention is mere day dreaming!

  30. Can the PF/UPND leaders please articulate their manifestos to the people before they call for an early election. What are they going to do better than the MMD? All we hear from HakaSata are nothing but petty things. We want to hear these leaders talk about job creation, roads, bridges, schools, health, agriculture etc.

  31. Ba Sata come 2011 you WILL lose again infact this time we are sending you to retire to rest so that you know we mean business..imwe tukamikanda…no matter what you d..people have been cheating you at by-elections that you are popular.awe mwandi mukashinkisha….2011 MMD chabe….no one other party..abash wife beaters, abash calculator leadership, abash leadership by error…abash…….MMD MMD

  32. ba Sata, this can never happen. It seems when u have nothing else to say u start blabbering coz we have heard this early elections story so many times! And nothing has happened. Just wait mudala iwe, and in the meanwhile continue campagning and bring back the belief in us that the Pact still exists not ifi ifya ma early elections.

  33. Even if elections were to be called today,ba Sata and his under 5 fellow, would still lose. His popularity is only in kaponya infested areas of our country.

  34. I have just suspended my central committee elections chairman, GBH. So, sorry iam not ready for general elections in the next few weeks. Rupiah please delay the elections i am not ready.

  35. Hi fellas, elections will be held next year, what does hurrying them by a few months achieve? How can people claim to be ready when they have not even told me why I should vote for them?

  36. Register to vote and do a favour the next generation. We cannot go on like this. PACT stand firm, MMD forgets what happened to UNIP, ask RB as the UNIP-reformist, that is if he has reformed from UNIP ways of doing things. If anything UNIP was 100 times a lot better at its lowest compared to the mbwezani ziko pasi sydrome going on.

  37. Peter
How come you have changed your flag?? How come you are contradicting yourself on insults when you have got the audacity to call other people `children of apes and dogs` shows you cant argue intelligently when other people have got a different point of view.
In as much as Iam not for insults, I dont agree with your point that the chaps in Zambia are putting up intelligent arguments, at least not all of them. People in the diaspora are exposed to real democracy and not this hero adulation you have of failed politicians, and they get frustrated by the lack of movement in the development of Zambia. 40 plus years of failure requires something new rather than the same recycled politicians whether in the opposition or ruling party.
