GBM Arrested

Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) and Kabwata MP

Kasama Central Patriotic Front-PF, Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Mwamba has been arrested and charged for wife battery.

Mr Mwamba who is popularly known as GBM was briefly confined to Woodlands Police Station before being formerly charged.

Lusaka Division Police Commanding Officer, Greenwell Ng’uni confirmed Mr Mwamba’s arrest in an interview with ZNBC news in Lusaka Monday evening.

Mr Mwamba who was accompanied by his lawyer Mumba Kapumpa has been released on Police bond.

The PF parliamentarian will appear in the Lusaka Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Mr Mwamba last week allegedly beat up his wife, Chama, following a domestic row.

Meanwhile, The Centre for Elections and Governance (CEG) says it is disappointed with Kasama Central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba’s stand to justify domestic violence as a cultural norm in marriage.

CEG Chairperson Gershom Musonda has said it is wrong for married couples to fight adding that it was even worse when the home of an elected lawmaker is involved.

Mr Musonda said domestic violence is inhuman, cruel and degrading and that to justify it shows that the Kasama MP has no regard for basic rights of victims, be it men or women.

The CEG Chairperson said this in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today that it was also not correct for Mr Mwamba to say that no political party should interfere in domestic affairs of its violent members.

[pullquote]“We are equally surprised to note that during the interview at Radio Mano in Kasama over the weekend, Mr Mwamba was with two fellow PF MPs namely Given Lubinda and Jean Kapita as well as PF national Chairperson Inonge Wina who all opted to keep quiet about Mr Mwamba’s violent behavior”, he said.[/pullquote]

He said elected leaders, especially at Parliamentary and Presidential level, are law makers who are duty bound to protect human rights including in marriage.

Mr Musonda charged that a political party that condones domestic violence or ignores it can not be expected to protect ordinary people if elected into power.

“We are equally surprised to note that during the interview at Radio Mano in Kasama over the weekend, Mr Mwamba was with two fellow PF MPs namely Given Lubinda and Jean Kapita as well as PF national Chairperson Inonge Wina who all opted to keep quiet about Mr Mwamba’s violent behavior”, he said.

Mr Musonda said Ms Kapata and Mrs Wina should have risen to the occasion to correct their brother, saying that CEG now wonders where the PF women have placed the rights of women in their party if they fail to support their fellow woman publicly.

He said the Patriotic Front is the strongest opposition party in the country and people do not expect it to move forward without an agenda for Zambia free of domestic violence.

  1. Jean Kapata and Inonge Wina should not call themselves women. How can they sit next to that kanyela mukati lufumo and not say anything. That was their chance to stand up for other women and show their leadership. What the f.u.c.k? Did he pay you off? Ifitambala ububi kwati nindoshi. I am very annoyed.

  2. Anyway, the wife will withdraw the case since its ok for some women to be battered as a sign of love(foolish tradition). They were even walking lovey-dovey at Woodlands police station. But one someday somebody gonna go to jail for murder.

  3. Ala abanakashi balatukana, ati, “Kwati muli baume imwe mene ichilufumo. Twalimonapo abanenu abakwa proper katundu. Mule nposela fye inshinta atase” Teti uposemo bazuka? Don’t be quick to judge!

  4. While I do not support Chidumbo Maliketi, Kapompa Saladi, I wish to condemn Gershom Musonda who is all over the place trying to please the MMD. He was the same at ZIMT then formed PIFO and now CEG. Awe wanyanya mani. Your late elder brother who worked for Supaloaf had more sense than you.

  5. Kuti kona li anganu ze i sepisa ku lu busa ze? Progressive Zedians will not tolerate or entertain such shameless and mediocre buffoons aspiring for office in our beloved land. If you love the lost, selfish, vulgar you can keep them on your neck of the woods but where I am from! I’ts ZWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

  6. Dr.Musonda,

Nowhere in hell can that Pastun Taliban Rasheed Gifteless Lubinda condemn GBM considering that Lubinda drawing on his Pakistani culture has been battering his now estranged wife. Challenge him where his matrimonial wife is to pick up on the current sex worker he is cohabiting with. Jean Kapata has never kept any marriage. She has rolled with more than 5 men she called husbands all breaking up after being battered, insulted and taking deep took bits all over their bodies. She has kids sired by different men. The only shameless character is Inonge Wina who was a wife to the late statesman for over 40 years yet she cannot denounce GBM’s medieval animist violent behaviour against helpless women.

  7. These two PF female senior membrs(Kapata & Wina) are traitors. How can the parade themselves on the same platform as a woman batterer? What message are they sending? Are they telling us that they support what GBM did? There is no doubt the ‘great leader’ Sata suctioned this PR disastor & that explans why the PF spokesman and chairperson attended. This just gives an insight into what PF stands for. They consider wife battering normal, typical kaponya mentality.

  8. Lubinda does not believe in the dignity of women despite being passionate of taking in10 virgins his madrassa schools of fanatical teachings promise him to have when he dies. The sad development is no different for Sata now in his 3rd marriage due to violence. This is why PF has no Gender or democracy policy. Challenge them to produce any if you will ever get it. Inonge Wina at NGOCC she got no values other than years of chewing donor funds.

  9. Zambia should never again overlook domestic violence. The country need to get decisive by setting a precedence on this Geoffrey Mwamba debacle. No one should live in fear of the person they love. If you recognize yourself or someone you know in the following warning signs and descriptions of abuse, don’t hesitate to reach out. With evidence at hand of domestic violence, the victim’s family and Rights Groups should take Mwamba head-on to the finish line. There is help available. Take Mwamba on until you secure him a conviction.

  10. I believe in a war against such chauvinists as GBM. Domestic violence and abuse are used for one purpose and one purpose only: to gain and maintain total control over you. An abuser doesn’t “play fair.” Abusers use fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear you down and keep you under his or her thumb. Your abuser may also threaten you, hurt you, or hurt those around you. Those perpetuating these animist behavior without justification must be prosecuted and incarcerated.

  11. The bottom line is that abusive behavior is never acceptable, whether it’s coming from a man, a woman, a teenager, or an older adult. You deserve to feel valued, respected, and safe.

  12. Evidently anywhere where it shows its evil spirit, the emotional and psychological consequences of domestic abuses are severe. Emotionally abusive relationships can destroy your self-worth, lead to anxiety and depression, and make you feel helpless and alone. No one should have to endure this kind of pain—and your first step to breaking free is recognizing that your situation is abusive regardless of your economic dependence on a maniac like GBM. Once you acknowledge the reality of the abusive situation, then you can get the help you need. Help for abusers is aplenty just report it out now.

  13. To all our women: sisters, mothers, cousins and daughters anywhere around the world, never give in to abuses. If you feel like you have to walk on eggshells around your partner—constantly watching what you say and do in order to avoid a blow-up—chances are your relationship is unhealthy and abusive. Other signs that you may be in an abusive relationship include a partner who belittles you or tries to control you, and feelings of self-loathing, helplessness, and desperation.

May the justice system deliver a hard-landing precedence on GBM so that all those in domestic violence acts among them the likes of Rasheed Lubinda, Willie Nsanda, Chishimba Kabwili, Fred Mmembe, David Mwila, Mwenye Musenge, Mumbi Phiri and Jean Kapata learn a lesson.

  15. Utterly disgusting; two wrongs DO NOT make a right. This man is grappling for straws to try and justify his despicable criminal behavior, and with the support of Wina and the other PF woman. Where’s the law? My heart bleeds for the Zambian voters. Late Lucy Sichone (MHSRIP) should be turning in her grave – and where Laura Harrison?

  16. What a shame on PF(the alternative govt!). This is not surprising at all, Sata has sired kids outside his marital home and he no moral right to discipline GBM. The men in PF leadership do not respect women, period.

  17. Let these chauvinistic PF so-called leaders get to learn the hard-way that love should not hurt and we all must teach our children and share with others what it means to be in healthy relationships. To all women of the earth at home or in the diaspora stay encouraged and stay inspired.Do not buy the rubbish PF leaders are shoving on your throats that woman battering is symbolic of love.

  18. A wife beater/abuser is no different from a tyrant or a dictator. Such people are are weak minded and pray on inocent victims using intimidation and brutal force in their quest for control. GBM calls battering his wife of over 30 yrs love, he then walks hand in hand with her like all is good. Typical signs of a psycho-social path, these misfits always end up killing their spouses. Mrs GBM is suffering from spousal-battered syndrome where she associates been pumlled as a sign of love. I urge Mrs GBM relatives to come get her away from this big fat monster. The more this GBM fool opens his big fat mouth trying to rationalize his actions the more he sounds like an ass. Just go away from the lime light GBM and lick your wounds, nothing u say will justify your reckless conduct.

  19. One reason this fat nigaa beat wife is jealous. What do you think was a reason? There is no other reason. He is too fat and I wonder how he manages to have se.x. There must be some small bodied chap who is having it all or maybe he suspects.
And to all you Zambians who think being fat is a symbol for greatness learn this from me. You put too much pressure on your wives thereby failing to fulfill your se.x jobs in bed. Learn to exercise and lose a but of fat arround your waist. You will find that soon your wife will be attracted to you becuase you are becoming more active.these beautiful Zambian women need to be treated well. I tell you the truth……………………

  20. ……here in Australia the only beautiful African ladies come from Zambia. I have friends from other African countries and they all want Zambian women because they are more beautiful. So you nigaaz that do not respect wives learn this. Make yourselves look good and respect your wives. Otherwise there are many guys who will help you.

  21. Veteran, you’re talking sense my brotha. However, I forsee Mrs GBM dropping charges. As you’ve correctly pointed out, abusers have such a grip (physically, emotionally, psychologically) on their victims that they render them powerless. Chama Mwamba has been habitually clobbered and verbally abused for many years (in the presence of their own kids!), yet she continues to take the abuse, purely for economic reasons.

  22. Veteran mwana, pls shed some more light on this Rasheed Lubinda. People of Kabwata need to vote this Taliban out of office come 2011. Jean Kapata is an ignorant fool and a woman not worth her salt. The only person I’m shocked to see standing by fat GBMs side is mdm Inonge Wina. A lady of her stature and background should not belittle herself and sell her soul just for a few kwachas! The entire PF machinery is rotten down to the core!

  23. By GBMs own admission, PF top brass are all lumpens (hence his annoyance with being singled out for disciplinary action by Sata). Surely, how can lumpens like Sata/ Nsanda/ Mushili/ Kambwili/ Mwila etc, be expected to form the nxt govt?

  24. big pipe, i reported your comment 27. are you trying to say mr. lubinda is a terrorist because he has a muslim background/ can you be so small-minded? And to call Ms Kapata a foul word just because she is unmarried? Otherwise I agree with all you say. let’s blog responsibly.

  25. Why do Zedians waste time on some of these issues. 99% Zambian women get battered. Even at plot 1 these fights take place. Super Ken and Kafupi went through all this, remember tute one of the former president’s arm. Even now there could be fights going on between the current tenants at plot 1, only thing they will not be reported to the police. I remember one Zedian telling me that If I don’t batter my wife she complains that she won’t reach orgasm. You read today’s post and see GBM hand in hand with the wife. That’s Zedian culture and our parents have lived with it from the stone age.

  26. While this case is serious and needs to be discussed as being done right now, can someone enlighten me on why it took so long for the police to arrest and warn and caution the shooter of a harmless youth in Serenje? Why has it taken so long to arrest Chalwe the raipist? Are we see swift action by police on some cases and dragging feet on MMD thugs? What has happened to Changwe the check fraud expert? Something must be awfully wrong in the application of justice and how the police is operating. I no know there’s no excuse for domestic violence, but who said there is excuse for attempted murder? Who said there is excuse for raipists? Only in Rupiah Banda / MMD government, murder is lesser than fighting with your spouse and lesser than being a raipist.

  27. Ba #25, muli babufi, just want to show off that you are out there, how childish.takwaba utu ma ethiopian uko?tawenda kanshi cchikalaa

  28. Given lubinda must be scrounging from GBM,every ka embarassing act tha this baby elephant commits lubinda is In the fore front defending him and parading him before the press but when characters like kambwili are on the wrong end of the law they fight it alone with no lubinda in sight

  29. Surely how can you expect Inonge wina and miss Kapata to denounce GBM on air ? There are always channels in which things are solved.Haven`t you heard about “washing dirty linen in public ? “.You just can`t expect those pipo to start blaming each other on air just because it is what the the majority wants to hear.Who knows what they told him kumbali.I think the way the ladies handled the whole thing is more healthy to the party than the opposite.

  30. #35 Mo taim
Just staying away is a good sign that women like Wina are in disapproval of his evil deeds of wife clobbering unlike sharing the same podium which reflects the opposite.

  31. The GBM saga is another circus, despite all his weaknesses at least Sata acted,Our President has been dodging responsibility over one Dr Solomon Musonda,William Banda, Some self confessed rapist who vowed to teach the FDD President in gang raping antics not forgeting ba Madam Changwe. Zambians are generally to ”peaceful” to question their leaders.

  32. Shi philipo @ #37 Your president acts draconianly and not under any fundamental principals of democracy.thats why he is always appointing.members of executive commitees from grassroot to national level are suppose to be elective under a democracy mwana, even when a vacancy arises there special commitees tasked to choose people to act in those positions. so the difference between sata and rupiah is that one follows tenets of democracy the other is a dictator

  33. # 37 right on, why have the police acted so fast on GBM and not done a single thing about Dr Musonda and Lucy changwe. It’s all about politics. I mean let the police act professionaly rathar than dacing to the tune of MMD govt. it’s a shame that the rule of law has been eroded by the MMD to this low levels and now there can even express injustice right in front of all to see and most of the MMD caders who are blogging are there praising this blantant act of rape of the rule of law. shame on all of you MMD thugs.

  34. In 2011 we the people shall rise and kick out this govt which is corupt and does not respect the rule of law. Rupiah will be the first on in Chimbokaila followed by all his minnions.

  35. To tell the truth I dont know Ms Kapita but I am shocked that Inonge Wina agree to be present in his first radio interview without finding out first whether he was remorseful or not!

  36. imwe ba PF kaponya…. wife battering = love and this Wina woman was agreeing by association. GBM is right to get annoyed by Satana’s useless suspension when real misfits like Mushili the kawalala is wining and dining with Sata……wake up you fools

  37. Ba Movement mwalanda sana, what is your problem kanshi because you have failed with flying colours to sort out the chief cheque bouncer. Kindly defend yourselves if Changwe does not derserve to show better morals as an MP and deputy minister. GBM made a mistake but that does not make you to condemn him ruthlessly as if he is your son. We are still waiting for Changwe to be arrested for bouncing a cheque. Remember, umulandu taubola.

  38. These are kind of leaders we expect. I thought wife battering was thing of colonial days. We do not have such things in MMD. \:d/\:d/\:d/

  39. Please do not condem the women who appeared with GBM during interviews. We do not know if they were aware that they would be sharing the same platform as GBM, equally, a dignified silence sometimes says alot. They did not justify his actions or try to defend him, instead, they left him to hang himself. The rest is up to the people (voters)to judge. As individuals we all have crosses to bear; we do not know what the other panel members have in their personal lives that could have come back to haunt them. On Veteran, I am very sorry to learn that your ignorant and racist rantings have even been allowed on this website. Gavin is a Zambian, get over your complexes. As Zambians move to other parts of the world, expect more mixed race children.

  40. Ok but ba GBM fyabupuba bachitile. Now you Zedians are blowing it out of proportion.it is only chama or ichilye to tell us the way foward.Ba chama wesu beleleniko and continue to enjoy that human mass afterall you also clobber him at times.

  41. #47 imagine, it’s un-Zambian the way Veteran carries on. He is probably in Beijing hiding from Sata. So on to this story – if GBM had been a government minister do you think this story would even be in the news? Considering Dr Musonda can shoot someone in the head…

  42. I believe GBM’s wife’s self confidence has been shattered by her shameless fat pig of a hubby. She is probably used to the luxuries his money provides and feels she cannot make it without him. Looking at his big flabby stomach, i’m sure satisfying his wife’s sexual needs has been quite a challenging task and hence he resorts to beating her to get rid of the sexual frustration.

AND TO BELIEVE THAT MRS GBM IS A UNZA GRADUATE!!

  43. Wat a shame, those pf women, especially inonge wina is a shame. sitting next to the wife batterer and cud not issue a comment, GBM must really be a big sponsor of the PF for the top brass to escort him to kasama, to explain that love involves beating ur wife. shhhaaaame

  44. UYU TOMBOLILO TADPOLE CHIDUMBO MALIKETI KAPOMPA SALADI NAKA BWAMBA TAKWATA. HE IS SPENDING MONEY ON PF AND WHEN HE REALISES HOW MUCH HE HAS WASTED AKAPONONA SATA NA LUBINDA. JEAN KAPATA DATES AMA SENE SENE NANA NAI

  45. STOP MAKING NOISE. Those two have already reconcilled and living as hus and wife and you are busy talking. You are wasting time she will withdraw the case. MWA NYALA wooooooooooooooo

  46. The pic on the front page of today’s Post is disgusting to say the least. The plump chap is busy parading his wife (wearing shades to cover the wounds!) as a PR stunt! Mdm Chama Mwamba, you’re a let down to all women; he’s been clobbering you for decades and later sends to Joburg, London and New York for shopping to make up. How can let this fat fool justify his savage ways, all in the name of ‘love’?

  47. Mrs Chama Mwamba, seeing you in the Post today, I’m now convinced that you deserved that clobbering. You’re sending a wrong message that it’s ok and normal to be clobbered by your spouse. Next time he beats the living $hit out of you, don’t bother reporting to the police and causing unnecessary media attention while wasting our time. Infact, I hope he beats you to a pulp and finishes you off next time so that others can learn that a lunatic like GBM will NEVER change his lumpen manners! Foolis.h woman you…

  48. Bane if there is any institution where one should be careful not to rush in giving an independent opinion if you are not the one involved it is marriage.I have had a personal experiences where the husband was blamed and the wife taken away from an abusive relationship just for her to return back and at the end of the day she hated those who spoke against her marriage and that is not the only isolated case.Hold yo tongues bane ,the bemba`s say “umuchele bawumfwa ukufina kusenda”.Let the mwamba work on their issues without you trying to curve out demons out of your own imaginations.

  49. #57 The Saint… The only mature responsible comment I’ve read so far on this issue. people on this blog are pretending and running their mouthes like they are in smooth sailing relationships themselves. Every relationship has its issues. Everyone on this blog has their issues.. others here have punched, pushed, slapped, beaten up their girlfriends or wife’s before for whatever reason.. when it comes relationships, there’s no known formula. I don not believe solving problems by beating. I haven’t laid my hands on my wife yet.. I think I punched and slapped a girl when I was 19yrs old. younster issues. As for GBM , he cannot be a law maker anymore. and on Moral grounds should not continue to represent the people of Kasama. I think an MP should ensure high moral ground at all times.

  50. #58 Mike. I disagree with you. There many issues to consider. Over 32 yrs in marriage + 5 children + 3 grandchildren isn’t a joke.. She would obviously go away with half his wealth if divorced. but their some many issues to consider in marriages and relationships. Maybe she just loves her “thug love”.. Remember with ladies for some odd reason Mr nice guy all the time nearly always gets hurt!

  51. #58
I disagree with her loving him for economic reasons. Its not every woman who is in love for economic reasons. There are women who love for love, with or without the beating, money etc they would still hold on to their relationships. I have never been beaten by my husband but even if he was to do it, i will not have him arrested or divorced. I will have to find another reason for that. Divorce is not an easy thing… its easily said when its on ur friend. I agree with #60. Lets just leave them alone. they will sort this thing on their own…. lets concentrate on our own issues. After all there is no perfect marriage…. we all just tolerate each other. so leave her alone to tolerate her husband.

  52. ha ha! hand in hand..ok..obviously she is not bothered with the tyrant husband but the law protectors must know that lots of women out there r abused by monsters like GBM and people need to see justice carried out and y the courts of law make sure that this low life political joke knows his boundaries it comes to interfering with other citizens basic rights..

  53. (Mr Musonda charged that a political party that condones domestic violence or ignores it can not be expected to protect ordinary people if elected into power.).Mr. Musondas good sentiments have been spoiled by this very sentence. It shows he wants to point a finger at PF as a party responsible for GBMs action and yet the Party has already taken disciplinary action against the erring MP. On the other hand I would like to congratulate the ZP for their quick action and only wish they dont have to the DPP/RB to arrest offending ministers.

  54. I seek an honest answer from women on this blog. If you had a choice, would you rather have a promiscus/cheating husband or an occassional wife ‘beater’. It appears most bloggers turn deaf or blind when it comes to cheating or grabbing other people’s wives (which have a wider public implications) but come alive in simple domestic disputes.

  55. The MIGHTY MMD has made a field day out of this. Meanwhile, insala fulu mu mishi!!! I wish these vuvuzelas of NGO’s can speak so loud on matters relating to the development of this country as they are now.

  56. Yangu – I am not clear how wife grabbing has wider public implications than wife beating?? But to answer your question – it a non issue because either way the chances of dying are high!!
    :(

  57. I can’t understand why Given always have to be next to ‘Fat Boy’ while trying to defend the indefensible. Does he always have to put his dignity on the line? And the two women present, this is a real shame for them. They are equally guilty by association.
And will the racists on this blog please stand up and go and hang themselves by the neck until they’re dead. The world (and Zedland) will be a better place without them.

  58. we may all have issues with our lives our wives our relationships but we dont go to the extent of beating them up….thats why we are condeming . As to whether we can advise the lady to move that would be the most positive way…otherwise yes let them stay 2gether since i guess they been fighting all their 30 yrs in marriage but God forbid one day one will be taken to the grave.

  59. It takes two to tangle, but beating your wife cannot solve problems. We are waiting to hear want lead him to behave like that as a public figure. SHAME ON HIM :”>

  60. it looks like dem f.uckers opens thier wide mouth wen it suites dem.shooting a person in public and wife battering which one can you give first attention if given a chance to eradicate these issues.Look at the time it took for this sugar daddy to respond to all these cases. If it is the opposition he so quick to open his f**cking pipi.

  61. UBUTUTU BA GBM TAKWABA IMYAKA UBWINGI MUKWETA MUCILI MULECITA IFYABUPUBA .WHAT ARE U TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN BY DOING THAT?LEARN TO BE A GENTLEMAN NANGU MULI BAMU STATION.
