Geoffrey Mwamba booed in Kasama

Share

Several Kasama residents on Saturday booed Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama Central member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Mwamba at Shoprite Checker’s outlet in Kasama.

This happened when Mr Mwamba who was in a hired taxi on his way to the Ukusefya Pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony.

Mr Mwamba was booed by onlookers when he passed near Shoprite with a fleet of hired taxis with drivers honking.

“He should be ashamed of his action, he is even raising his fist without shame,” one woman shouted.
Another woman said “There goes the MP who batters his wife why has he even come to Kasama when he has not sorted out his mess in Lusaka”.

And people talked to in Kasama central said they will wait for their MP to call for a meeting to discuss his problems.

“Since he has come to consult us, we shall wait for that meeting to be held otherwise we are disappointed with him as people who voted for him,” Mr Bernard Chanda said.

Mr Mwamba hired taxis to escort him from Kasama town to Mungwi to attend the Ukusefya Pa Ng’wena traditional ceremony.

And Mr Mwamba yesterday assured his constituents that he will continue to be their representative and carry on with development projects. This was during a meeting at Chambishi market in Kasama.

The electorate welcomed his decision not to resign his parliamentary seat. They also pledged to support him. And United Church of Zambia (UCZ) has advised Zambians not to vote for leaders who batter their wives because such individuals cannot be entrusted with the leadership of the nation.

UCZ Copperbelt Presbytery Bishop Sydney Sichilima said this during a blousing ceremony of 276 women Christian fellowship members in Ndola yesterday.

“Society should condemn leaders who batter their family members, particularly their wives. Let us not vote for such leaders because if they fail to lead their homes, they cannot lead the nation,” Bishop Sichilima said.

He said it is unfortunate that some political leaders and other leaders in society engage in shameful behaviour like wife battering.
Bishop Sichilima said it makes sad reading that a political leader battered his wife.

“Civic leaders and other leaders should be contributing to the integrity of women and not otherwise,” he said.

Bishop Sichilima said Zambia should fight any form of gender discrimination and that boys and girls should be raised in the same manner.
Bishop Sichilima was proud that the UCZ has been trying to take the lead in preaching gender sensitivity.

“Not only do women preach and give Holy Communion, I am proud to say that for the first time, a woman Reverend, Peggy Kabonde was this weekend elected as General Secretary of the UCZ synod for the first time in history,” Bishop Sichilima said.

He said it is unfortunate that some sections of society are trying to destroy the integrity of women.
Bishop Sichilima said it is sad that some young women are being displayed half naked in the print media.
He encouraged the women Christian fellowship members who were bloused to first seek the kingdom of God above material things.

“The blousing ceremony is a time of commissioning your work with God. This is the time that women decide to offer themselves to the ministry of women in the UCZ,” Bishop Sichilima said.

He said women all over the world play a significant role in building society and that they should not be looked down upon.

Bishop Sichilima said the church has for a long time now played a vital role in raising the status of women.
The 276 women Christian fellowship members were drawn from the Ndola north, Ndola south and Luanshya Consistories

  1. What a story! wonder why anyone would waste their hard earned cash to buy Daily Mail or Times of Zambia when they can read it for free on LT

  2. reading online and having hard copy are two different things. i buy times and daily but dont buy post its my choice. as for gbm he can only be tolarated by pf since he is the chief financier. he bank rolls broke pf

  3. Geoffrey mwamba is just naturally hash even the way he treats his workers at GBM milling and Gemines buses services. i even urge Ngos to put pressure on the police because these policemen also work under instructions from politicians as if they are not proffessionals (abena kapeso). let the Police take this issue seriously and i just hope the wife will not attempt to withdraw the case. how educated is he.

  4. #1Crrminal, cant you read in between the lines that the post is the most fictitious tabloid on the market today, their agenda is always to portray rupiah in the negative and to make make sure he is hounded out of goverment come 2011 so that the masters behind can have a big stake in chewing the national cake and you are blind to it.daily mail and times are truly govt parrots but are not extremest.waumfwa maso yobe.

  5. #1 Criminal, cant you read in between the lines that the post is the most fictitious tabloid on the market today, their agenda is always to portray rupiah in the negative and to make make sure he is hounded out of goverment come 2011 so that the masters behind can have a big stake in chewing the national cake and you are blind to it.daily mail and times are truly govt parrots but are not extremest.waumfwa maso yobe.

  6. The post is the widely rerad and circulated newspaper. It’s sells surpass individually both Govt Controlled and MMD Party (state) owned daily & times. So it says A LOT ABOUT THE post WHO ARE NOT FUNDED BY THE STATE. The Govt & state MMD controlled papers are heavily funded but have low circulation why???????

  7. GBM said a political party was not supposed to poke its nose into issues of wife battering because the issue was a domestic and an internal one. He said even the media jumped on his beating his wife because he was in the opposition.
He said if he were MMD, the story would not have come out.

“Am I the first man to beat up his wife? I have stayed with my wife for 32 years. We got married here in Kasama. So they think we can stay this long just without us fighting? So what was wrong this time?” he asked. GBM said even some small NGOs joined in condemning him.

  8. Let GBM recover from the termoil and continue contributing.. But let him not buy sympathy like hiring taxis for what? He should humble himself and accept things as they are. When he had a problem with FRA he was boasting about instructing a junior accountant to pay his long standing debt. Now he wants to justify his wrong in another way – TAXIS to ukusefya pa ngwena. The press play it’s role as they cover events. They are obliged to report in the manner they do things. Some may be prsonal attacks but that’s just what their obligations are

  9. If the kind of reporting in Zambia does not change then dont blame us of just listening to CCN and Sky News.
The Post claims many people text Radio Mano urging him to stay on and pledged continued support while daily mail claims he was booed. Its like we have two extreme newspapers.
Anyway GBM is gangsta tho he raised important issues like that of Mushili that the PF leadership need to ponder.

  10. I am suprised that Bwezani Banda has commeted on this case and condemed GBM. Come on Bwezani, how can he even have the guts to Condem GBM when he has done obsolutely nothing To Dr Musonda (Dr Death) who shoot somebody. Come on lets be honest with ourselves.

  11. I am not surprised at GBM’s ridiculous justifications in the post over beating his wife ( “because i love her, every one does it, where can she go after 32 yrs”) because i expect nothing more from him.

I made the assertion last week that GBM’s beliefs require a complete re-culturelisation as they are intertwined within his very fabric. He has proved me right.

What i do find shocking, however, is that he makes these statements while seated next to Inonge Wina and Jean Kapata, who are themselves ( hopefully!) women! Are these female “leaders” therefore endorsing such archaic views (gender/domestic violence) What hypocrisy. Can someone please tell GBM that the Law of the land has a definition of assault and that his views dont mean squat.

  12. # 4, Iyo ni PHD (Pull him down)

Our friend has money, akudya bwino, you have a problem with that. Only somebody who eats plenty good food can be as big (fat) as GBM… musiyeni munzanu adyele!!!! Imwe mu “paya” rape, mukadyako ka mulopa ninshi ni inswa you think you can have such a big body? Let the man eat and enjoy his hard work. Am not saying he wasn’t wrong when he beat his wife.. but PULIZI, we are blowing this whole thing out of proportion!!!!!

  13. Very sad developments indeed, whats wrong with you “Bembas”? Is this how you treat your women, GBM claiming brutalizing & assaulting his wife is love. Bane, we dont need this kind of ignorant backward culture, no wonder your bemba women flock to Nyangas,Tongas & Lozi men who know how to treat a woman like a lady. If this GBM chap was in the US, his big fat a#$ would be in jail…

  14. Its sad that zambian politicians want the public to judge them independently from their family life. who u are at home is who u r in public. pliz dont join politics or became a public figure if u think u can be a monister at home and expect your consequences not to follow u in your public life. GBM u better know that we will not stop commenting on your evil acts if u dont resign. Chidumbo maliketi kapompa saladi.

  15. GBM was wrong to beat the wife, insult the inlaws.the best the big man can do is to apologize to the mwenso family, the wife and children.we all make mistakes in lyf yes bt shudnt become an excuse to the wrongs we do.so if wat is sayin that he has apolgzd to the wife n children is true its a gud step ba mwamba, however wat of the mwensos hav u done the same?beating yo wife father isnt love bt lucky of self control, wrk on your self control, patience, slow to get upset ,compasionate n forgiveable.guard yo tongue as well papa .yo actions cals 4much atention lokin@yo status in society so b cautous of yo actions.Mayo banamwamba also avoid provockin situations wen u see that the argumt is heated try to remain silent if posible humbly leave the place n wait him to cool down then table the issues@ha

  16. hand.it does not mean that since evrybody beatvthe wife u shud baet too,iyo tata,b diffrent frm those n yo wife wil b a proud lady abt you.ndemona mwalasabililapo chimo n not to repeat this behaviour nga mukafunda shani nga shkuti shalatwalila ukuba ife.hope u will stick to your words

  17. Ba GBM ulufumo kwati banyela mukati! disgusting bully. Somebody should clober him in Kasama and cry love afterwards. Lets see how he feels about that. i.d.i.o.t

  18. Since GBM beats his wife out love, I think he should just shoot her to show his atmost good love. Imagine na Inonge Wina was sitted next to him as he was talking. Its a shame to both Mwamba and the PF.
