Police Check Point

Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Martin Malama has directed police in the region to remove all unnecessary check points on the roads.

Dr. Malama says he is surprised with the increasing number of unnecessary checkpoints mounted on most highways on the Copperbelt.

He told ZNBC News in Kitwe tuesday that the unnecessary check points are a public nuisance.

Dr. Malama says he has received numerous complaints from the travelling public regarding the numerous check points.

He has promised that the system will be addressed this week.

Dr. Malama says only check points that are vital to the security of the country will be maintained.

  1. Two Check points on Kitwe Highway! Its just unthinkable! The Ndola Mufulira Road has quite a number as well and the Checkpoint before Sabina on the Kitwe-Chingola Road must go too. Oh how about the Kafulafuta Check point!

  2. The most notorious checkpoint is the one at manyumbi and ndabala near serenje.these are proper business check points,oh even kapiri on great north road.at manyumbi there was one ka boss called sikasundi or something like that from kabwe the ka man pretended to be tough yet he was very corrupt to the bone.that ka check point must also go

  3. One bg question these police commands ought to be asking themselves is how do these somali illegal immigrants find themselves in lusaka upto chirundu if these check points are effective.these cops know that these somalis come in fuso fighters from nakonde hidden in bales of salaula.it’s between 10million and 15million for one fuso with more than ten somalis and do you think these check points can stop.most of the pirate taxis in towns are owned by these cops

  4. Is it because of the incident where Policemen robbed the travelling passenger of ZMK375million that there will be reduced check point and how about road blocks. I left my driving licence at home and I was charged ZMK270,000 just last friday at a point I never expected a road block or check point near my home imagine!

  5. Between Kalulushi and Kitwe – There is no check point.
Between Kitwe and Ndola – After luangwa kafue bridge, that check point has over stayed why not bring it at Wusakile Police.
Between Ndola and Kitwe – Near Monkey Fountain, that check point has also overstayed why not take it along Mufulira Ndola Road.
Between Kitwe and Chingola – Sabina check point is ok not that one after it scrap it.

  6. Well done Dr. Malama. Zambia needs people like you who can listen to the public and take action not people like Rupiya Banda and his team. What is the point of mounting unnecessary check points all along the way?We only need those check points if there is a security concern. Police officers across the board must be educated on this. I have travelled in many countries and Zambia is number one where you can find un necessary check-points. We need to wake up as a nation.

  7. but, even if Dr malama passes that directive, after 2 weeks these road blocks will resurface, how many times did mateyo bar them and how many time has kabonde done the same? last time he even went in a rage and threw all those barriers at kafulafuta check point when he found a long convoy there.he disbanded tha check point but after 2 weeks it was back to business as usual.so labeniko fye

  8. :((pliz too much roadblocks in mazabuka lusaka road just meant for buses and taxi.i wonder were the police take the money they collect without even recipts.wake up guys!

  9. Police officers are no longer shy, do you really think the big bwanas dont know what goes on on these road blocks? They are a product of the same system, they just allow it to go on. These roads, with in two months they come back, operating fully under the full view of the same person who has stoped them. It really shamefull to this country.

  10. I hope now that we have a Dr we will see some sanity in Police Service on CB. And i hope he’s not one of the useless stranded Doctors but has balls to stand his ground for what is right against his ”chicken MMD cadre” boss. But wait, RB fired his predecessor for merely allowing Sata to share a 2 way lane road with a Vice- President so there is no hope the Dr will use any of his common sense after all, wastage of manpower.

  11. I see most of you are happy the Dr is trying to remove them. That’s quite a good suggestion but there’s another down side to it in some areas.

Mufulira Ndola raod still just needs official ones. The road is extremely bad that we need them for a closest refuge points. Robbers have attempted to grab vehicles on a number of occasions, and roadblocks have come in handy as the victims have always rushed to such points.

Dr Malama; don’t abolish all of them; change the strategy. Reinforce the use of proper IDs and uniforms for officers on duty. We need them to be rotated. We need more immigration officers along this road; too many Congolese natioanls in Ndola…I hope they’ve got proper papers.
