Mabenga disputes daughter’s postmorterm results, postpones burial

Share

MMD national chairperson Michael Mabenga
The burial for the late Gladys Mabenga Chitika the daughter of MMD national chairman Michael Mabenga has been postponed to a later date to be announced following a dispute over the results of the postmortem.

Mr Mabenga confirmed the development to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

Mr. Mabenga who is also Lands Deputy Minister said the postponement is in a bid to appeal against the results of a postmortem which was carried out at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) this morning.

He noted that he was not satisfied with way the whole exercise was conducted.

Mr. Mabenga who suspected foul play in the death of his daughter noted that a lot of suspicious events surrounded the death of Gladys.

He disclosed that the family of the deceased was not allowed to witness the postmortem while the Husbands side had representatives.

He alleged that he was not comfortable with the presence of a student Doctor named Sampa Mutale who was allowed to be part of the postmortem team.

He said Sampa is suspected to be a relative to the late Gladys’ husband.

Mr. Mabenga also accused Chilenje police officers of not being professional in the way they have handled the matter from the day his daughter died.

He has explained that the body of his daughter was taken to the mortuary even before the family was informed about the death.

He further added that the cleaning of the blood stains and beddings from the House by Mr. Chitika’s family even before informing his family was enough evidence that there was foul play.

Mr. Mabenga has since apologized to the First Lady Thandiwe Banda, Traditional Leaders, Government officials and other mourners for the inconvenience caused by the postponement of the burial.

And a check at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus were the funeral procession was scheduled to take place found mourners gathered and waiting for the body.

Among the notable mourners included, Presidential Affairs Minster Ronald Mukuma, Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha, Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, and Minister of Gender Sarah Sayifwanda.

Gladys was found dead in the early hours of Saturday in a suspected suicide case however, her family suspect’s foul play and the Husband has since been arrested to help police with investigations in the matter.

  1. MHSRIP, Mabenga you are a hypocrite…you celebrate when others die..and say alot of nonsense, what goes around comes around. So now the police are unprofessional, when other’s say it they are just singing..

  2. Ask your cadre Kabonde to go investigate and manipulate the results and let Dr Musonda(the murderer do the postmortem).Your depressed your daughter.

  3. 1 & 3 You are completely heartless. Just because you disagree with somebody politically does not mean you should be adding to their pain at this difficult time. Were you present at the incident involving Dr Musonda to know all the facts? Lets hope for your sake that you no one in your perfect family has to go through what this family is going through. How do you know that Mabenga depressed his daughter if she did commit suicide? Dont you know that depression can have many different causes and can be suffered by everyone of us including yourself?

  4. # 1, bauze ngozi & RED CARD-Smoothcriminal,

Was Chilufya Sata’s bizarre death in his father’s house justify anything and trigger your similar celebration because his father was a culprit in the Chilenje Merzaf flats project and Avondale?

Sadistic as you are you kids are hurting yourselves and not those you hate. More also without opening up to Jesus, you will miserably die failed souls without a purpose. You have surrendered to hatred, lies, bitterness, witchcraft and self defeat in life. All evil spirits have found sanctuary in you with dominion. Yours will remain a divinely closed door life encounter until like Saul on the road to Damascus you meet Jesus.

  5. # 1, bauze ngozi & RED CARD-Smoothcriminal,

Not long ago Sata’s son Chilufya jr. was discovered dead and stinking 5 days on in his bedroom under the roof of one Michael Sata’s Rhodespark house just 2 bedrooms separated from his father’s master bedroom.Drug addicted Chilufya was found with his hands on his pennis and some dry semen on his laps and matress side. Was this because Sata was involved in Chilenje Merzaf flats scandal or Avondale housing project? Did inherently brainless sadists like RED CARD-Smoothcriminal.

  6. “Ziko lapansi ni lovuta”. There are only three pipo who know the TRUTH regarding the cause of death: 1) God, 2) the husband & 3) the dead herself (before she died). Kabondez boyz (police) & the docotaz are only experimenting & speculating. So errors of omission or commission MAY be possible. MHSRIP

  7. Zambia has never built new townships since independence except shanties and a few extensions by owners. President Sata the “workholic” built Merzaf because where ever he worked he left a foot print. Pull Him Down (PHD) syndrome which many armchair critics and Zambians who suffer from it stopped the progress for years. No wonder you enjoy Kalilngalinga, Mtendere, Ng’ombe, Mulenga, Zambia Compounds because of ukutumpa kwenu people like # 7. Vote Sata for progress.

  8. Death can be saddening, but suspecting a student to twist postmortem results sounds far too much. If Ministers are going to behave like these, leaders who are supposed to lead in such situations, what happens to the common John on the street? Ba Mabenga should mourn like a gentleman unless he is otherwise. We all know how terrible it feels to lose a loved one, but we also must be civil in handling such problems. Soon Mabenga will be saying he does not want Bemba or other tribes doctors to attend to his people. Doctors are professional people (apart from Solomon Musonda), and treating them in this way considering the strenuous conditions they are operating in Zambia is an insult to the profession. Although Mabenga has lost his daughter, he should not misdirect his grief on the poor docs.

  9. – Even children die. And parents must find a way to accept and cope and, too, to remember.
    – Maybe the only thing that hurts worse than saying goodbye is not having the chance to say it.
God we pray for the senior MMD, Mabenga to come to terms with himself and family.

  10. This chaps have become so used to manipulating the police to do wrong things. It’s very clear here that the police are not on their side going by their action. It is likely that the police saw everything was bare and straight forward, and hence no need to suspect foul play. Obviously doctors have high ethical values than police and couldn’t buy the foul play story. It’s most likely that Mabenga didn’t want to go into the postmortem room due to reasons best known to himself. Which cop or doc can stand in the way of any MMD politician, especially Bachaimani. If fi juju mulepanda, muleke. Iyi misango ya Bachaimani.

  11. I don’t know the facts of this case but it is highly suspicious to clean up the crime scene before investigators arrive. That in itself is a sign of foul play. Let’s wait and see what happens. Also, why were the deceased familiy reps barred from the postmortem? Alot of things here not adding up.

  12. Nothing needs to add up here. What do family members know about the anatomy and chemical composition of a human being? What will they see that doctors will not see in postmortem procedure? Mr Mabenga must just accept that it has happened in his family just like it happen in any other family. Tarnishing the name of a poor student is not honorable. Students attend such procedures for their studies. What type of surgeons will be told what to report by their students? Ala fimo tuleibwelamo.

  13. The death of a loved one is very painful and I feel for the Mabenga and Chitika families during this very trying period.

Having said that, it is highly unlikely that the police and medical authorities would have been involved in a cover-up. Anyone who has lived in Zambia will know how eager the police will be to do a thorough job given the person they are dealing with (a government minister). With all due respect, Mr Mabenga is just being a typical Zambian politician by disputing the results because they don’t suit his family’s view. Any legitimate concerns he expresses should be addressed but that should not automatically mean the widower is a murderer.

  14. Just accept nafichitika ba Mabenga. The fact that (if word going round is true) the Mabenga`s want to give her broken ribs and blood stains as a posssible reason to suspect foul paly doesn`t hold any water.Ribs can easily get broken even from acts as simple as repeatitive trauma ,a simple example being severe and prolonged coughing spells, and the result may be tha the broken ribs can punture into blood vessels or an internal organ leading to bleeding(which might have been the blood found on the floor).I have no doubt the whole postmortem was carried out in a professional way.It is hard to accept the death of a loved one expecially when it is too sudden and unexpected.M.H.S.R.I.P

  15. i smell a very big rat here!! if this woman committed suicide, why did chitika family clean the house and change beddings? this is honestly a foul play. if you discover that someone is dead in the house would you have the energy to start cleaning before informing the police?. what were they trying to cover up by cleaning the house? this is simply destroying evidence before the police could get there. we don’t agree with mabenga on political lines but this is different. something aint right here! i hope the truth comes out soon and if someone was involved must be prosecuted accordingly.

  16. Are we supposed to believe that an entire minister and Party chairman was prevented from attending a postmortem by a policeman? Is the Chitika family that powerful?

  17. Its just childish. They are used to disputing election results and rigging elections. A doctor worth his salt cannot be manipulated by a student doctor. When did juniors start influencing the seniors….. lets bury the young lady and look at other things.

Lives of vengeancy will not help anybody.

  18. I smell a rat. Is it a coincidence that these ministers are busy losing wives( Deputy Education minister) Sisters. ( Konga), Children( Mabenga) and Accident for their children ( Pande). All MMD. We only hope it is not a punishement from GOD on people suffering.

  19. I thought when a person is found dead,no one is suppose to touch the body until the Police(Homicide) come on the crime scene? Where is the procedure here? My cousin was shot dead in his house(he was single),the neighbors phoned us and we rushed to his house, found him sprawled in a pool of blood and next were bullet shells. We were NOT allowed to touch his body till the cops came and collected it after taking some photos. This is the procedure I witnessed first hand(I also see it in movies) and this one is somehow hazy to me.

  20. If i remember vividly the key witnesses in the sesheke case involving mabenga died mistriously. Chitika should also be careful, even if he is cleared by investigations, he mignt also fall in the same pit.

  21. #26, It depends. what of those BID cases, no police but you find police at UTH waiting for you to give them a report. nowadays the police will tell you okay you have reported, take the body to mortuary and thats it.

  22. Politics aside, it is indeed very painful to lose a loved one, even if the results turn out to be ”favourable”, the young lady will stil be gone! We can only wish/prayer for the Mabenga and Chitika families in these trying moments.

  23. # 23…spot on…It’s hard to believe that only one family was stopped to attend the post mortem. They should have escalated the issue to higher authorities immediately. It seems Zambians are good at just complaining… Let us be pro-active when we suspect things are not okay….and avoid creating controversy all the time. That said, the whole story is very tragic and may god give both families comfort…it must be very hard on all involved….

  24. Very sad Indeed, anyway the father has the right to know how the daughter died. coz raising up children is a very big task for no man to end it like hez killing a chicken! Hung the bastar’d if found guilty maybe us men will learn to stop beating our wives……………….

  25. Bloggers you really amaze me. Do you think a mere doctor in Zambia can prevent families of a Minister(MMD) from witnessing a postmoterm of their relative? Lets not jump to conclusions. There is also a story in the post indicating that neighbours confirmed that she may have just killed herself. They never saw any blood. I personally know Chansa as a very good guy but l m VERY far to make conclusions like other bloggers.

  26. iwe # 7 you are useless, for real Sata has left a foot print where ever he has worked. You need such a leader in Zambia, may Mabenga’s daughter’s soul rest in peace.

  27. No one was barred!!!!

Mabenga cannot be barred. He wants to fault find and justify his family’s theory: “HUSBAND MURDERED THEIR DAUGHTER”.

Why didnt they seek intervention from higher authorities of UTH? Who is more “powerful” today? Chitika or Mabenga?

Ba Mabenga please just bury the young lady and let Chansa Chitika off the hook. CHAPWA CHAPWA. Give us justice.

  28. 35 I agree with you. Here the situation is a student doctor influencing senior Doctors decision!!!!!. The Doctors stopping the minister and his family from witnessing the postmoterm. Sonds uside down. Let Her soul rest in peace for Gods sake.

  29. I trust our Doctors. I love them. They work hard with little. They put in their all for little. If they say it is xyz, then it is.

  30. its true, Mabenga is just looking for way of making his son in law pay for his daughter’s death to satisfy his family’s ways of thinking on what transpired, just burry the dead and God is the judge, if u read the story in the post, it contradicts with this one a little. May Her Body Rest In Peace

  31. Let Maketo rest in peace. Bo mabenga munamuhulu its not necessary to do another postmoterm. Please the police and doctors are professionals and initial investigations have shown that she committed suicide. So why do you want them to manuplate the results…. Is it for the hate of your son in law? Remember maketo was married to that mechanic in mongu and because the guy was poor, she left to marry the banker. I thot you loved him too…., and now you want to accuse him to have murdered his wife wen he is cleared by investigations! Please leave maketo to rest in peace.

  32. its dissapointing to see Mr. mabenga behave like that. the student doctor and the other surgeons who where doing the postmrtem are professional. their work is bound up with professional ethics.
Now i agree that for Mabenga to dishonour the whole procedure should have done the same evil manupilations involving postmortems. some boys wuold have worked for him and government to distort death inquest nowonder Mabenga is so arrogant on this. he knows the game. I Mabenga not involved in the death of Dr. Silwamba and the manupilation of all crues to that drowning?
Mabenga should have professional shame and stop turnishing himself with things he collectively know where they end up to.
Some people in these offices can work, my fellow bloggers!

  33. #44(Moderator)
hehehehe I dont even know how to hold a gun and never touched one in my life.Maybe later.Anyway,May His Rest In Peace. He used to spoil me as a kid cousin(I mean taking me to places).

  34. It is very sad that Mr Mabenga’s loss has impaired his judgement. Mr Mabenga has lost a daughter BUT the husband has lost a WIFE!!! Calmness in adversity is a sign of true leadership qualities, not just winning elections or being members of political parties.

  35. Pa Zed our politicians always create drama over the dead. This incident is one of them. The others include parading corpses around the country, political quarrels and fights at funerals, instigated by the likes of WB. The list goes on. You guys (politicians) why don’t you respect the dead and let them rest in peace. Ifintu fimo cimo no buloshi.

  36. # 10 imposter! Come on Bally get yourself a name.
Thats the problem of manipulating everything in your life, nothing can be geniune.Mabenga should painfully bury his daughter and move on.The nonsense he is uttering wont change the postmoterm results

  37. the medical student is a chitika. He is not supposed to be in that postmortem room cos he is an interesting party.Even in auditing that is what they teach us.they call it independence of auditors. Even if this jounior doc was just there witnessing people think otherwise.Try to be in his position

  38. If I were Mabenga, I’d just let the whole thing pass. There can only be more pain in pursuing this further on top of the unchangeable fact that she’s gone!!!

  39. Mabenga must have lost his mind. How does he expect the entire medical team with all its ethics and complicated channels results go through before they are released to be any element of foul paly ? He just hates the son in law for not preventing his daughter from commiting suicide. After all the lady has been threatening of commiting suicide for a long time and that is enough to even convince even a psychologist ….she craved the nozzle.

  40. Can someone answer this question please. Was the junior doc the one conducting the postmortem or just witnessing? If she did the postmortem, where was the senior doc? If she witnessed the postmortem, what kind of influence does this student have over the senior doc?

  41. Its sad that some Blogers cant really think through whole story objectively. But one thing is for sure. the truth will definately come out. Mabenga you are a disgrace not just to your family but to the Nation of Zambia as well. You are indeed a big lier and we will see where those lies will lead you. Why do you want to prented that Maketo was an angel who could not have killed herself. How many times did she attempt suicide? How many times did chansa report those incidents to you. May God forgive you for hating the Chitika family for no Apparent reason.Just burry the lady and move on.

  42. In Zambia nothing goes without controversy and soon we will see the breakdown of the tribes of policemen and doctors involved in this investigation. Zambia is a complicated conundrum.

  43. Can someone answer this question: .In an event, (which is obvious) the results favor what Mabenga wants, will the man he wants incriminated accept the new results? It’s sad he can’t accept results of the people that he controls..the circus continues…NALEKA!!!

  44. A man and his grief canbe hard to phantom its true that we can make all sorts of allegations just to get an understanding of ones death. Kangwa Nsuluka tried to do the same to prevent the burial of his late daughter but Sata intervened and she was buried….Its costly to ‘host’ a funeral and all I can say is if Mbaenga feels that the presence of ‘student” doctor amounted to some fault and he can prove misconduct on the part of the doctor let him follow the channels for ratifying them..If he proves his daughter was killed he then will bring her to life?

  45. 123, you are heartless, umwana mwana, politics aside. Leave the man alone to mourn the daughter and let him have the righful information he wants about the death of his child. Whether she was depressed, committe suicide herself , murdered by the hubsband or what plz leave him alone, he wants to know. Afterall his the one who raised her up alone hence, he has all the right to know anything about his beloved daughter and justice should preveai if there is any foul play. May the good Lord strengthen ba Mabenga MHSRP

  46. Mr Mabenga, accept my heart felt condolences. I have lost a dear one before and know how it feels like to be in such a state. But please be real. The more than two doctors who were carrying out a postmortem on your daughter are professionals who have invested so much in their careers. Its a great insult and uncalled for for you to suspect that they could be manipulated by one of their students. Please allow your beloved daughter’s body to be buried so that her soul can rest. She must have had a tough time on earth so don’t prolong that. MHSRIP.

  47. There is clear indication that there were some irregularities in the results of the postmortem because Dr Musonda who did the postmortem is a relative of the Chitikas and Hon. Mabenga’s relatives who were supposed to go and observe the same were refused entry.
The maid of the Chitika’s said the two had been fighting in the early hours of Saturday. Mr Chitika’s sisters were found cleaning the bedroom,… why were they cleaning the bedroom? They are saying that she killed herself with a rope but there was no rope found, the evidence the police have is a scarf and there were blood stains found in the bedroom. Even the way the police from Chilenje handled the matter is very questionable. If she really committed suicide, where was the husband?

  48. You think these Drs can be pushed around like cadres. Mudala we all lose our beloved one at the least expected time. We have no power over God’s plans whether we are MMD or not

  49. Autopsy results are subject to dispute, therefore nothing strange that a father is insisting to know the cause of death. The unprofessional conduct of the doctor who conducted the postmortem is disgusting. Why did he demand the presence of lawyers without giving advance notice? This is typical of Zambian professionals, they have a big chip on their shoulders. Grow up.

  50. People on this blog talk as though Doctors/Dentists and other professionals have never been barred from practising because of unprofessional conduct. Doctors are human beings and are capable of anything just like anybody else. If Dr. musonda is a relative of the defendant question marks can be raised. #63 Tendai & #61 are correct, there are too many irregularities and as much as we want the lady to RIP, where a crime has been committed someone must pay. Postmortems have been carried out but why are bodies then exhumed after many years for a second postmortem???

  51. There are so many things that are not adding up here hmmmmm… how do you explain blood on the wardrobe and a body in the bathroom? where was her husband if the body was discovered by his relatives who according to the papers informed everyone but ba Mabengas relatives? napo pa last minute? let the truth be told, yes she is dead, but I feel the father has the right to know the cause of death. You can not be called one afternoon to be told your daughter has been found dead and you just casually arrange barial without knowing how it all happened. This is human life we are talking about, its not a GBM story were the Wife survived this woman died someone has to stand for her if not for anything else let it be done for justice.

  52. that lady will go 2 GEHENA and be tormented in the lake of burning sulfur and brimstone until the demon sin is dethroned. Her probation is sealed and she declared… a companion of Judas Iscariot.
What good will come out of a suicidal death?
Hell and torment my dear leaders..taking your own life..is same as insulting God who created thee and formed you to become a pure leaving soul. and you then you just decide to take that precious life… Bupuba!!!
May Her Soul Rest In Hell..!!!
    i don’t condone evil ambitions.
Lean something dear blogger that there are so many battling with their lives in hospitals and homes anxouis to live another day then you selfishly kill yourself?
    God will never forgive you.
Problem Shared Is Problem Solved.take it to God in prayer, he’s so faithful to…

  53. I only hope its not a case of elections being around the corner and a lot of leaders children dying mysteriously. This is Africa, open your eyes and you will see the answers in front of you. It may be car accidents or suicides, what ever the case, they will not be straight forward.

  54. death is difficult to believe once it has happened it has happened, may God REMEMBER the mabenga’s even if I support the PACT.

  55. # 63 You must be a BIG liar. Dont write as if you are part of the investigating team or saw the evidence. We all just read from the papers. Are you going to believe another story saying the lady tempted killing herself before?

  56. This is a lesson to Mr. Mabenga and us all, on how corrupt our system is in Zambia. If Mr. Mabenga cannot agree with these results what about the common man. People have lost friends and relatives in circumstances such as this but nothing happens. My advise to the family is to put the body to rest and later deal with the issues. This also shows that this marriage had a lot of challenges if it can end in this way. Zambians watch out who you marry or get married to. Mr. Mabenga, I am sorry for the loss of your daughter but this is what our country has become because of the foolishness of mankind. Mr. Mabenga next time you visit the President Mr. Banda, express your feelings as you have done here least not be his own son.

  57. #63 you are a FOOL. Dont mislead the public. You are extracting falsehoods from the papers.

The truth has started rolling in. First by the postmortem results: SUICIDE!!! The rest is all hearsay.

Ba Mabenga bury your daughter and Police shall continue investigating.

  58. Am sure the today’s postmoterm result were in favour of Mabenga view of his daughter’s death no wonder he agreed to burry her, i hope the Chitikas could also challenge those results.

  59. Am sure the today’s postmoterm results were in favour of Mabenga view of his daughter’s death no wonder he agreed to burry her, i hope the Chitikas could also challenge those results.

  60. The chitikas thought they could rig the postmortem by making sure no mabenga family was present.
I dont know how bemba think. They even thing of rigging death. The Doctor conducting the motem was a relative, the observers relatives, the junior doctors did not know..and their opinions differed with final report.. the Russian doctor finds the trueth..whcih collaborates with the evidence on the ground..
Nebas, and all who called the police in, have evidence against David.. what a shame to the Chitkaz who thought they cud cheat again like they did in Chiluba days.. Well done mabenga

  61. Iwe chi # 78 why do you like bringing in tribe in everything ? What has being bemba to do with that ? Don`t be a scumbag ! The official report is not even yet out.

  62. Just to add another juicy twist to this story. It is a week in which Musosha’s wife and Konga’s sister are dead, another minister’s (sorry can’t remember name) daughter and her husband cheat death, Mabenga’s daughter is dead and nice lady Chitika is implicated and a chance of fighting. All politically connected, do you think what I am thinking?

  63. No 4 and 5 stupid *****s as Kaunda would say look now, didnt i say it,shame on you.
And Inspector General Francis Kabonde has said a second postmortem would define police’s next course of action in the matter where MMD national chairman Michael Mabenga refused to bury his daughter after a postmortem result indicated that she committed suicide.

  64. # 80 Elections, It’s sacrifice time. 2011 elections are around the corner! ha ha ha! Watch a Nigerian movie, it’ll give you some clues!

  65. # 78 suntwe, is your insinuation that apart from rigging elections, Bembas also rig elections? If so I want you to tell me if chief rigger MJV is Bemba?

  66. Those post reporters assigned to cover this story from the post are a little bit biased towards the Chitika family following what has been reported. The issue is somehow contraversial involving some how Bembas and Lozis and the Chitikas feel disadvantaged having two Lozi reporters covering this issue. Advise to the post is that they were suppose to assign this story to neutral people or tribes not involved to reduce this feeling of biasness. These reporters in some way seem to favour the Mabengas, though we know for sure they are the ones on a great loss indeed. Kalaluka and Mundia are Lozis, it would be better if one of them was of a different tribe.

  67. Questions to be asked. Why did madam Eliza and her relatives remove what was supposedly evidence of battering and attempt to replace it with suicide . if It was suicide, why not inform the Mabenga family asap since the body according to their info was found in early morning, assume David was dead asleep and his nephew or dependnat was also asleep.

let us start to account for the events.
Where was david at time of death?
who was in the house at time of death?
what was the fight about, which made the gate be locked when maketo wanted to leave?
Who was the first person they called when they discovered the body in the shower or suicde place
What time did the Mabenga get to know and who informed them
Which policeman handled the BOD and one who arrived at scene of crime?
    to be continued

  68. #79, the report is already out. it is you who dont know it yet. the second postmortem shows the evidence of murder and attempt to conceil evidence.
The police is now locking on those suspected which includes some close family member of David, police and the Doctors involved.
The police is now going to do the full forensics which they ommited or tried to avoid to aid David..
Phone records will be recovered and analysed. that will establish the pattern and then make all account for these calls.
Then your cool David will be convicted, at least for manslughter, and some relatives for abeiting and aiding a criminal in a suspected murder.
I hope my brothers and sisters from some part of this great nation, will learn that love is not battering or being battered.

  69. I pity you, Gladys Mabenga Chitika that you went through what ever drove you to take your own life. It should have been your father taking his life.

  70. Can a Doctor conducting a postmorterm be able to say someone commited suicide or simly state the cause of death such as BROCKEN NECK,FRUCTURE SKULL etc?

  71. I had asked these questions under the subject Mabenga’s doughter interred but did not get Suntwe’s comments. Here are the question:

Just suppose that the second post mortem results ‘indicate death by strangulation’, will the Chitika family accept. Which document will be admissible in court as evidence and how will a judge interprete the results of the two reports? What will stop the Chitika’s from questioning the integrity of the second doctor – given the status of Mr. Mabenga and his apparent influence as a high ranking political figure.
