UPND president Hakainde Hichilema

United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema says he cannot be cheated by party members that he can go it alone in the 2011 tripartite elections.

Mr. Hichilema says if the UPND goes it alone in the 2011 elections, chances of removing the current MMD government are very slim.

He says Zambia needs a united opposition in order to remove the ruling MMD from power in the 2011 tripartite elections.

Mr. Hichilema has since called for unity among Zambians if the country is to achieve the change of government.

Mr. Hichilema says the country has continued to suffer at the hands of the corrupt MMD government.

The UPND leader further stated that the UPND/PF pact is intact despite attacks that from the ruling MMD and its sympathizers.

And ULP vice president Gabriel Chibambula has resigned to join the opposition UPND.

Welcoming Mr. Chibambula into the UPND, party president Hakainde Hichilema said the party needs more people.

Mr. Hichilema indicated that more people are going to join the UPND in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile UPND, has called on the MMD government to convene a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss how and where the ballot papers for the 2011 tripartite elections will be printed.

Party Deputy Secretary General, Sikwindi Situla, told QFM in an interview that government’s statement that some machines at government printers have not yet been serviced would demand for a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss the matter more effectively.

Mr. Situla said the issue is not about machines alone, but also to convince the Opposition political parties as to whether the printing of the ballot papers locally will not be fraudulent.

He said, it therefore leaves government with no option, but to call for a stakeholders meeting to decide whether the ballot papers will be printed locally or outside the country.

Meanwhile, Mr. Situla has accused the government of not being ready to hold elections next year.

He said government’s delay to work on the machines at government printers is a clear indication that government is thinking otherwise on whether to go ahead with the elections or not.

Mr. Situla has since advised government to quicken up the process of ensuring that machines at government printers are in good condition before the need of printing ballot papers arises.

Works and Supply Minister, Mike Mulongoti, disclosed over the weekend that not all machines meant for printing ballot papers at Government Printers have been serviced.

  1. This is the best observation made by the UPND president. Let this echo in MR Sata’s ears too. Even PF may not pull thru all alone. You guys need each other to lessen the chances for the MMD rigging next years election. LISTEN TO THE VOICE OF REASON.

  2. At least HH is being frank to himself. MMD is a good party with people of high calibre. Come 2011, MMD will continue ruling. Cheers MMD

  3. HH THATS A RUDE AWAKENING AND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THAT YOU AND SATA HAVE NO REASONS TO CONVINCE PIPO TO VOTE OUT MMD. YOU REALISE MMD IS DOING IT CORRECT AND PIPO CANT LISTEN TO THE LIES OF SATA AND HH. SPARE YOUR LITTLE REMAINING CASH DONT WASTE ON FRUITLESS CAMPAIGNS

  4. HH – You have now realised that neither UPND & PF can beat MMD in 2011. We have said this over and over.

You are the “Young Blood” and yet you have not got the stamina to go it alone.
Go and regroup your Grassroots country-wide and bounce back with a better Arm Fist after another 4 years

SATA – On the other hand is barking for an early election when deep down he knows – he cannot win on the PF count

As for the PACT – that too is a dead-end. Unless if you pull together but your marriage is neither tangible nor feasible.

  5. Yeah, MMD will take on the Motley Crew of crooks and womanizers who gamble, smoke, and drink with abandon. What brings them together is “to remove the MMD from power”, no other reason!

  6. HH Walasa! let the games begin, “CAN YOU FEEL IT MMD CHIEF BOOTLICKER, ITS HERE” well spoken. Even UNIP in their heydays, were confident. I think RB knows the feeling. We need ADD, Milupi and heritage party to complete the puzzle.

  7. A politician you are not HH…but we wish you well because after 2011 when you lose again you will feel the heat of being a nobody in society they cheated you when they made you think you could fill Mazokas shoes they cheated you when they said you can run against LPM imagine if you ahd accepted to be Veep with Levy you would be ruling..but nwo you look old tired and haggered…..Ba pati pati..you are an intelligent person read the writing on the wall you will be hammered next year once again…..

  8. If you have lost the general election thrice, better merge with others that have lost the same way, and you will succeed.Otherwise, good observation and good luck HH.
Now,meet up with Sata and discuss these things while theres still time, and sort out Joe Kalusa, hes making too much noise from that end!

  9. For so long HH & SATA have been listening to false intuitions. Their Sixth Senses have been misguiding them for a long time. The reality on the ground appears to be sinking into HH.

This could be Good Medicine for HH. He is starting to humble himself. The truth is that MMD is still too strong and will score 2011. RB is wining grounds as people have now started to see partial yields in the country. It may not be much but Rome was not built in “One Day”, “One Year”, “One Decade” or not even “One Century”

  10. Makes some sense. Now 1: the people need to know who is leading the pact if they are to vote for a pact, announce ASAP who will be President and who will be vice. 2: While with the hurt and disappointment this MMD has laid on people for over 15 years, getting rid of them may sound like a solution but it alone is just an emotional reaction so make it a solution by spending more time letting us know what measures you will have in place to allow for transparency, development etc. Show us how you represent the change we need to see.

  11. My son isn’t yet born but I know when it’s time for him to vote MMD will still be in power then

  12. The end of MMD that’s why they can’t sleep at the strength of the Pact. They know that once the pact pull through to 2011 tripartite the 35000 votes they store from Sata for RB to be in plot one will not be easy to steal again.Viva Pact. Viva HH Viva Sata Viva UPND/PF pact. MMD kuya bebele.

  13. This lack of self confidence and inferiority complex is not synonymous with credible leadership. Its not the kind of what issue based democratic leadership is made of. Your insecurity is overbearing because you don’t have issues to articulate and sell yourself on to sober Zambian electorates. Winning politics in open democracies is realized on issues you articulate and not selling a menu of insults to self respected rational citizens as Zambians.

  14. this is the worst statement a politician can make. he has just conceded defeat and now there is no guarantee even that he will be Veep to sata because hh has shown his weakness too openly. sata now will simply say even HH accepted he cant win alone so Pact will be led by PF since PF even alone believe they can win. HH its too late now they chaps have milked you of all your money and the emergence of Magande takes away the notion of the tonga vote which will now be shared amongst everyone. wow how the mighty have fallen. MMD will sail through but they will need to campaign smartly

  15. HH is being realistic, the MMD has unleashed the state machinery to finish off HH and Sata but if they unite, MMD will really need a miracle to stay in Power! The President’s campaign is in full gear, but the terrible blunder he is making is to rejoice in the ”disunity” in the pact!

  16. Very correct and honest observation by HH. The reality on the ground is that if SATA-PF go it alone, they stand a better chance of winning than HH-UPND, hence the combination of the two is a definate win for the opposition. Now that HH has spoken, pliz discipline chaps like Kalusa and Chizyuka who are being sponsored by the MMD.

  17. Mazoka COULD HAVE NEVER SAID THIS….. it shows that the strength of the UPND 2001 DIED WITH MAZOKA……So since the new upnd is weak let SATA ride on you backs……….wow Preesident SATA for Zambia i dont know.

  18. This is the best and most honest statement this guy has ever made.Indeed the chances of him winning by going it all alone are all but a pipe dream.Let him and king cobra come up with a good strategy that will see them opening the front door to plot one.

  19. HH wasted his Green Pastures ridiculing & name calling RB. Rather, getting his 15 minutes fames & prominence with The Post headlines. He should have been touring the country selling his visions with what he would do with: –

Education || Health || Judiciary || Job Creation || Investments || Environment || Social Aspects || Public Administration || And the list go on…..

However, he fell into Sata’s games of going round insulting opponents and forgot to promote good substance agendas that could elevate him as a good Politian and future leader. He is now beginning to come to terms with the TRUTH on the ground.

  20. It is not about removing a government but about providing a credible alternative that can ake us to the next level now if HH is saying that he trusts Sata to lead Zambia and put us on a pedestal of good governance, tangible and meaningful development then he has really lost the plot. It is time for zambians to put aside pettiness, hatred and innuendo from our politics. It is not about proving a point or defeating an opponent. it is about the lives of various people. It is time for responsibility and genuine leadership across the board.

  21. HH and Sata seem to know what they need to win the next election. the problems seems to be at lower ranks. HH accepting being vice to Sata to me is a sign of maturity.. How did RB become our presido??? Just now VP Kunda is far more ‘powerful’ than HH. And I know HH being the VP can do a far much better than Kunda.

  22. PF-UPND fight over Mpulungu bye-election

The Patriotic Front (PF) and The United Party for National Development (UPND) are embroiled in a bitter quarrel on which party should put forward a candidate for the Mpulungu parliamentary bye-election.
The two parties have an electoral alliance which basically stipulates that they should not compete in elections but should instead work together to defeat the ruling MMD.
The method of selecting candidates as bye-elections arise appear to be based on apparent popularity of a partner party depending on the immediate past election in the constituency where the election is due. If the PF won the last election or came second to the MMD in that particular constituency in the past election, then the PF must put a candidate and vice-versa regarding…

  23. He is conceding too early. A week in politics is too long to see so many things change. This may indicate that HH is not PASSIONATE about the UPND Party as the way MAZOKA was – of course the later being the founding member.

Could this be an indication of him throwing in a towel in the Political Platform?
We know politics have cost him a lot of money and has destructed him from his Business Empire.

  24. But in the Mpulungu bye-election, the UPND is accusing the PF of hijacking the candidature contending that it is in the northern region where they claim to be popular.
UPND Youth leader Joe Kalusa has condemned the PF for rushing to advertise for the seat. UPND Chairperson for Women Chinyama Sekeseke has said that the Pact has yet to decide the parliamentary candidate for the Mpulungu seat.
Last week, PF secretary general Wynter Kabinba was quoted in the media claiming that the UPND and PF have agreed to feature one candidate from PF. The UPND never said anything.

  25. But according to the electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) results for 2006, the PF came out number three from MMD and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) which the UPND was in alliance with UNIP and FDD.
UPND president Hakainde Hichilema today held a press conference where many people expected him to address this issue. But he circled around it instead chose to talk about cooperation in the pact.
Even though some UPND members believe that Hihilema is still a contender for the pact presidency, insiders say that he has been deflated.

  26. Who told you SATA would appoint HH VP after he becomes President…….grow Up HH will end up being given a small ministry…Education like Chiluba put the first MMD Chairman Arthur Wina. Was Arthur Wina ever Vice President. Think………..its not mandatory for SATA to give HH the Vice if he gets into state house.

As for those of you who think have papers SATA will ensure you look like fools….Ba kaponya will get back on the streets of Lusaka no passage like it was in Freedom way and chachacha during chilubas reign.

With the military and Police in the hands of SATA i just dont know , u wish Banda continued being President

  27. Sources say Hichilema has been bullied into submission to work under Sata by negative publicity from the Post newspaper. Hichilema cannot even talk publicly to lead the pact anymore.
But this has caused consternation in the UPND with most MPs now aligning themselves to the MMD.
“A massive fall-away is imminent in the pact once Sata is declared pact president” said one source close to Hichilema.
But another school of thought is that Hichilema is playing tricks with Sata. Sources say Hichilema is actually much more resolved to stand as president in 2011 than he was in 2006 and 2008.

  28. This is such a huge breath of fresh air. Finally a Zambian politician being honnest with himself and admiting it in public. HH, you ve got my vote now. You ve just earned my respec!!

  29. Ms Chama Mwenso Mwamba is the dirtiest doormat this country has ever seen. Nsofu Mwamba almost killed her last week and only last year she woke up in Morningside Clinic with a fractured skull after he gave her a thorough clobbering. Why she still wants to reconcile with “chiwa” spooks me because were they to divorce, she retains half of the wealth and as a wealthy courger she will have multitudes of young blokes saturated with testostrone and love to pleasurise her till she happily breathes her last. With Nsofu Mwamba, she will sooner than later breath her last, bloody!

  30. Zambia: Dangerous Bemba tribalism (editorial)

The Post (Zambia) / Wednesday, 13 September 2006

There must be recognition in Zambian politics that any election campaigns must be based on sound moral values which serve to bind our people and not to divide them on tribal and regional lines. The Bemba tribalism and regionalism that is being unleashed by Michael Sata and the Patriotic Front is frightening and must be combated.

  31. HH’s comments are nothing but cries of a tribal bigot realising that he can never rule this country with only Banthu Botatwe! His statement, though seeming stately, is nothing but empty assertions clearly intended to quench his tribal bigotry and kleptomaniac thirst. I am very glad that by now most Zambians are able to recognise the cheap neaseous scent of a power-hungry and gold-digging mercenary that he is.

  32. Struggling for national unity, it is necessary to combat firmly the fabricators and abettors of division. It is dishonest for Sata, or anyone else for that matter, to claim this.

  33. I do not think its just the Bembas who are tribally bigoted in Zambia, all Zambian are and all one has to see is the pattern of voting to show how tribally inclined even the most educated Zambian have become. I mean, nearly 99% of all Tongas voted for HH and the same can be said about Nyanjas for Kanitundila. The only thing that will unify this country is Fred M’Membe, half Nyengo half Bemba, married to a Tonga and very patriotic. It’s his honour, integrity and disdain for stinking thieves we need to unify us. If he becomes president, thieves like Chiluba and Banda will have their day, in jail

  34. Since UPND is a small underdog, regional party, HH should have held this meeting in Southern Province to explain to his core supporters that he has abandoned them.

  35. #21 you want kalusa to e disciplines, but what about Gay Scot, Kabimba & Mwenye Musenge who also utered bad things against UPND?

    Be balanced my dear!!

  36. Most of you have missed the point, What HH meant was that it is difficult to remove the seating Gvt in Africa without unity of purpose.Stop those stupid tribal remarks you are making which will not take you any where especially #39, 41 and 42. In fact PF did badly in the last local Gvt bye elections where they lost in their so called strong holds and managed to win only one seat.UPND did even better and got two seats beating PF in the embattled Chadza and Kaoma seats.YOU PF KAPONYAS stop burying your heads in the sand.SATA needs HH more than HH does

  37. HH wansebanya. Surely a politician worth his salt can not stoop so low. Why form a party when you cant aspire for plot 1. HH was supported by three parties – UDA – but still tumbled lamentably. In 2006 i was one of those that campaigned for you in Chongwe and was almost fired by former DEC chief who was from the family tree but i dribbled him. Let me warn you HH, if you wont stand the entire southern vote will enrich RB because no sane voter from Bantu Botatwe can vote for SATAn. Sata during Mazoka Mwana mubotu called Westerners, Southerners and Northwesters as being BEHIND LIKE BATTOCKS or Batakos as my daughter wrongly pronounces. it is for this reason that SATA continues to get double digits in these areas.Shame on you HH viva Chizyuka viva Mwanachingwala viva Hamiyanze

  38. Well done HH. Thats what we expect fom intellectuals. The motive of the coalition is to remove the jackals and serpents from power and not about the Bemba or Tonga dominance.

  39. It seems HH knows what is at stake. We shall wait and see. But know that the more you waste people’s time on who will be your leader the more your competitors takes advantage.

  40. One wonders why HH has been performing better than Sata in Northern Parts of Northern Province. Sata Insulted my relatives there using his trade mark insult that us Mambwes, Lungus, Inamwangas , Thumbukas, Nyika etal are ever behind like Ba.tto.cks. For this reason Sata and his party will never win in those areas this explains why SATA lost to LPM by astronomical margins 16000 votes to 3000 votes for SataN. the same trend was replicated in 2008. Come October 28 Sata’s candidate will tumble heavily. Better UPND stands otherwise PF IS A WALKOVER in Mpulungu. Digressing: I had respect for Lubinda but the chap is diappointing to say the least. Why stick to sata

  41. The other truth HH needs to know is that if he takes the vice position his pact will lose to MMD. His followers will vote for either for ADD or MMD. We see how the cards will be played.

  42. Where is Maestro hehehehe? Reading in between the lines, finally HH has conceded to deputise Sata. Now leats wait for the fallout in UPND cos I know for sure intellectuals and founding members like Hachipuka cant accept to mix with the likes of Kambwili,Nsanda,Kapata,GBM as colleagues and work under Sata.Worse still, our constititution does NOT support agreements signed prior to elections and HH will be a minister and he wont do jack cos Sata will be enjoying sweeping powers as President.I thought HH was intelligent, wrong!!

  43. THE mood in UPND seems deflated. whether the PACT will win remains a conjecture. There is no evidence that the coming together of sata and HH will result into a win. What the PACT has failed to do is choose the leader, present a unified manifesto, present a shadow cabinet, elect the presidential candidate and indeed consult the grass root voter on why the PACT. It would appear their only resolve is to remove the MMD from power.
In terms of policy, the PACT has nothing to sell to the people as evidenced by sata’s empty rally in Kitwe. There are so many people that got disappointed with what they heard at the rally that they are wondering what these guys will do for the country.

  44. Alinaswe Alinaswe what a chestnust you are! this is one of the reasons this poor country will not go anywhere. Mwanawasa a lenje called Bembas a stinking tribe but we still went ahead and voted for him, HH called us monkeys in a maize field but we’ve forgiven him because he’s ignorant. Personally i dont know whether or not Sata actually said what tribalists like yourself always attribute to him. In any case all the candidates we have at the moment have skeletons which if we were to exume and parade in public none of them would win an election. For example HH allegedly had his hands all over coffers of Lima proceeds which makes him a danger to our treasury. what about RB, he’s a chimbwi no plan, an expert in BBQing and shoddy deals. Maybe we should try Angel Hon Sichilima.

  45. I must confess, never seen this kind of sub-level circus not even from late Chama-chakomboka and Namulya Dean Mung’omba.

  46. In this entire circus I only sympathize with selfless UPND members who founded the party and have held on to the values late Mwanamubotu Kambela Anderson Mazoka that fallen Corporate executive icon and statesman inculcated in Zambians and indeed his establishment. Sadly in a blink of an eye visionless opportunist HH has gone loose trading it off.

  47. Had HH been a natural leadership material, I could have advised him to read “the Art of War by Sun Tzu” to develop a mind set for protecting yourself the positive way. He has wittingly allowed himself to be a mop rag of Mmembe and Sata. Mazoka must be turning in his Grave while asking himself what has befallen his former party and dream? The blood of Andy is upon Nkombo, Sejani, Siakalima and Mwananjiti for killing the people’s party only alternative to ruling MMD.

  48. Well said HH but talk is cheap. You talk of uniting the opposition yet you guys are already silently beefing with PF. Both sides are allowing their leutenants to take jabs at each other. Elections will be held a yr from now yet you’ve failed to identify a presidential candidate or even a modality of how this candidate will be chosen. Last but not the least, southerner’s will never accept Sata for president! They’d rather settle for RB, in a worst case scenario. PACT is dead and buried.

  49. Alinaswe dont you think its time we tried your tribesmen Sichilima or Sikasote at statehouse to quench your tribalism. My mum is Namwanga so dont tell lies that theres a lift between Namwangas/lungus/Mambwes ets and bembas because i’ve lived in Isoka and i know what am talking about. Sata lost in the previous elections because PF did not campaign enough in that part of Northern Province. Have you wondered why for example Namwangas also play cimbuya with Easterners as if they were Bembas? the answer is we are the most united Province in Zambia and have mutual respect for each other except for few lunatics who try to divide us for political reasons. So for those who dont know anything about Northern Province please ignore this Alinaswe, he’s just a maeverick possibly a Senior citizen…

  50. this is the end of the road for UPND and for HH. Now see the fall out that will come. Maestro hehehe where are you? speak up with your tribal nonsense. HH has just admitted that he is a useless politician who needs to unite with PF in order to have a chance BUT which credible UPND MP will accept to be taking orders from a buffoon like Satan? never and there is no Tonga that will vote for satan. any votes in southern province for sata will come from bembas based there

  51. History will judge us. To remove UNIP in government as Zambian we were strongly united. Observesation made by HH can’t be thrown in dust bin by a rightful minded persons. In African, parties in power have continued to rig election, disadvantaging the opposition parties by use of state resources. In m view as concerned Zambian lets give MMD government Red card 20 years is enough. To the PACT please sit down on round table and resolve your difference otherwise Zambian have already lost interested in voting and the only hope we have is in the PACT. Extend an inviation to FDD, ADD, APC i am sure if you guys came up with a gud strategic beleive me it will be easy game to kick out MMD but if you fail expect nothing but RB to go for another 5 year. Mark this timely and free consultation.

  52. no 60 the problem is that none of the other parties will accept someone like sata as President. all those parties you talk about were founded by former MMD leaders who were hounded out of MMD by the very same sata. so forget about unity. that can only come if sata is out of the way not before. so people will still vote MMD because at least we know who they are and they are the only credible national party

  53. PERSONAL TO HH,

I implore you to do a sound and intelligent strategic SWOT analysis of the national political constituency, with a professional design conduct a market research not what cyber trolls and nkani zamukachasu you usually depend on can feed. The likes of Garry Nkombo are useless Gold diggers time has recorded. Thereafter define your target market; tailor your politics on policy and not your usual tribal hegemony with a niche. Ask yourself where my scorecard is.

  54. Thus far you have lamentably failed not because Zambians cannot forgive your yesterday criminal acts but because all you have been dwelling on are tribal matters, insults, hatred, and crusading of anarchy even where you don’t have a constituency to trigger it on. For instance when you say you will make Zambia ungovernable if independent electorates reject you for the third time, do you seriously expect Zambians to yield to your narcissistic crusade?

  55. Your greatest challenge remains that while this defunct Horse-Rider pact is busy insulting and dancing to the deluded hate crusade of those fanatical agents of imperialism at the tabloid, the incumbent party is tenaciously delivering multi million kwacha capital projects around the country. In your delusions you think these are nothing to Zambians but your menu of insults for the votes. To this you believe the hyperventilation of some embattled tabloid online and their prohibitively expensive cosmopolitan circulations is a game changer in a national constituency. You have failed big politically.

  56. Instead of intelligently countering RB’s record of National Development, you think being petty like uneducated politician is good for you? You are cheating yourself that being petty against the kind of indelible Grandscale national level projects will do you good. Daily you insult chiefs, demean the ila people for their culture of respect and love, demean and oppose the completion of Namwala-Choma road, completed billion kwacha Chongwe District hospital, The under construction M8 Mutanda-Chavuma, Chipata-Mfuwe Road, Mongu-Kalabo-Angola Road, Schools, completed hospitals and bridges coming up both, Mchinji-Nkala-Malawi railway to mention but a few.

  57. You choose to be petty with:

-RB to commission K10bn scan at cancer hospital

-K970 million court complex construction begins in Zambezi

Meanwhile, Government has opened up tenders for the construction of the Zambezi-Chavuma road.
The district commissioner said the construction works on the M8 were progressing well with the opening of tenders.

  58. -Due to sound policies SEPA is investing K600m in banana plantation
SAVE Environment and People Agency (SEPA) is investing K600 million for the banana plantation in Zambezi District to be managed by 625 women.

-Pro food security policies: Chingola gets 10 000 fertiliser bags
CHINGOLA has received more than 10, 000 bags of basal and top dressing
fertiliser for the 2010-2011 farming season. The fertiliser has been received under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) and a similar amount is being awaited.

  59. – ZAMBIA Food Security Outlook Update (USAID)
Projected food security conditions remain good due to good harvest
Most parts of the country have remained food secure with only very few areas of concern. Currently the food security in the areas of concern is stable as households are consuming what was harvested and are accessing food from surplus areas.

You have to beat this to be taken serious and not just perfecting in the art of insults and useless alignments of Horse-Rider pacts.

  60. It puzzles me when bloggers portray this mentality of ‘this is what is wrong with that’ without taking the time to analyze from an independent, non malicious and non prejudiced perspective. If trully we see all these things wrong with leadership how then are we so blind to some of our wrongs? Inciting tribal conflict with the words we choose to use is no solution and neither is settling for the better of two evils. I implore us to free ourselves from this mental slavery that clouds our vision, for if we are ever to be developed, we have to be unselfish, united in the cause and not selectively blind. Lastly, it would seem that if people were truly for change that would collectively stand behind young politician but rather they argue that the old proven thieves are better than the younger…

  61. Alinaswe,

I also hail from the areas you are referring to. But I am not aware of any pejorative statements made against my tribe, the Lungu, by PF as your insinuate. You seem to be one of those, like Catherine Namugala and GBM, who instead of promoting unity in our province would rather sow seeds of disunity and discord among the different but peace loving ethnic groups. I strongly suspect you don’t even come from the north.

On HH’s sentiments, a little bird tells me that the people that he can go it alone and win are Dr. Cholwe Beyani of UNZA, Douglas Syakalima, and Ackson Sejani.

  62. On HH’s sentiments, a little bird tells me that the people cheating that he can go it alone and win are Dr. Cholwe Beyani of UNZA, Douglas Syakalima, and Ackson Sejani. Let him listen to more reasonable voices like that of Gary Nkombo so that the Pact remains united and prevails in the 2011 elections.

  63. I THINK HH IS SERIOUS ABOUT KICKING OUT MMD FROM POWER…..HE IS FRANK AND FOCUSSED. AT LEAST IT GIVES US HOPE THAT THIS PACT IS GONNA WORK FOR SURE!!

  64. I had to read HH’s statement three times before I could believe that he has actually insulted his colleagues in UPND and praised PF. Well that is how I read it. What HH has said is that he does not trust his colleagues and members in UPND, they are all liars. Now if a leader does not believe in his followers, then what is the point of having a political party? Are the members gonna stand such an insult? HH, that is the last nail in your political coffin. Not only that, you also have killed UPND, and that will not please Sata who needed the Pact to ride into State House. I bet UPND are in a crisis meeting tonight and overnight. UPND can only be saved by an internal coup de’tat.

  65. I am most surprised at how HH has capitulated at the hands of Sata, much like someone with jelly knees. But why not just resign from your position rather than destroy your party UPND? Is it because actually it is not his party (therefore no heart commitment to it) but just an avenue to State House and lucrative contracts? Oh my …….

  66. #73 Bo Lubinda, I like what you are saying this HH fellow can not see clearly now because he is blinded by Sata mania fever. He has lost Western to ADD and if Magande forms his party he will lose his stronghold to his brother. What I see in next few weeks is that Magande and Milupi may join hands to convince the Lozis and Tongas to unite so that they can dislodge the pact, and when this happens all UPND members who are getting frustrated will joins Magande and team to take this country forward.I cant believe what HH is saying now it is betrayal to his followers.

  67. Mama Mtinta Mazoka at Kumalende is gripped with overbearing shame at this circus while Mwanamubotu Kambela Anderson Mazoka founding father of UPND is turning in his grave at this wholesale betrayal of his vision. His soul is asking what did i do to have my vision desecrated with this impunity and where are redeemers to spare it from immature and dangerously opportunistic HH? Where are the men and women i worked with and considered of valor?

  68. When all these issues are happening where are the old Madalas of UPND the likes of Hachipuka, Matongo, Bo Sibetta sure we need to hear their voices.

  69. HH was pampered from the start. He landed the leadership role on a Silver Plate and was the darling of The Post. This is a Test Of His Time. He needs to show that he can stand up through think and thin. There is a big difference between a Soldier that has been to the Frontline and the one that has just worn the uniform all his entire life.

This is muscle draining & demoralising to all Hardcore UPND supporter that have believed that HH on his own can pull it if he gets, Lusaka, Central, NW, WS, SP and WP provinces.

  70. Except from HH in Zambia, i have never seen it in war or politics where a serious leader tells off his own machines and operatives in the establishment that you chaps are misleading me in this battle except what a tabloid and indeed my opponents are saying is gospel truth.LoL

  71. # 76 Senior this time around you are talking sense from the bottom of your liver. This fellow is digging his grave where he will be put to rest politically. The spirit of Andy Mazoka will haunt him, he will not have peace until he does something better for UPND. He can not read the mood of the people who can give him vote. Wrong company will cost his political career badly. It is not the issue of removing the MMD from power but how are you going to manage the government with confused Kaponyas who are divorcing and beating wives?

  72. This is why we say had HH been a natural leadership material, for the love of Mazoka’s soul we could have advised him to read “the Art of War by Sun Tzu” to develop a mind set for protecting yourself the positive way.

  73. #78 You have observed well. We are troubled to see how HH will give out the votes which were on his side to MMD. It really pains.

  74. 82# Senior, You do not need to read the book, as leader you should learn to listen to the people whom you lead. I wish I could read the book, is it on internet please see if you can send it to me if I give you my address.

  75. HH was better off selling himself to a fellow perennial ballot reject Sata than malicious peddling on the flagship of Mazoka’s party has no solidarity of on this death trap.He has no constitutional caveat to insulate him from a reactionary membership. Legitimate members of Mazoka’s party have a moral right to find a true selfless people’s leader and then defrocking HH.

  76. The biggest weakness with this Pact is that it is not based on any principle except removal of RB and the MMD party from the Presidency. There is no real strategy beyond just winning the 2011 election.

If the purpose of the pact is unity why do we hear only divisive talk, blatant lies and threats to the ruling party? And why the difference in approach, HH says ‘merged’ while MCS says ‘no merger’? What formulas will they use to first decide who can stand for these elections and how the electoral college (i.e. the delegates who will vote) will be selected? How do we know who is who in each party and which party they represent? Any cadre worth his salt will sell himself to the highest bidder and also to whomever he sees as having the best chance nationally

  77. THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR THE PACT
    By T. Simumba
when this article came out over three months ago most of the kaponya’s and the blind followers of HH uttered insults galore but now what the author stated has began to happen.

  78. Wise people learn from past mistakes. HH has done his homework and progressive Zambians should salute his reasoning. PF and UPND need to be united to be able to unseat the corrupt MMD government. Had UPND not pulled out from the pact they had with PF prior to the 2006, the PACT could have handly won those elections and right now we would not be having this foolish corrupt RB as preseident. And in this pact it should not be difficult to deceide who should be president and who should be VP. Democratic politics is about numbers; so who ever galvanizes a bigger following should lead the pact to victory, and I’m sure both Sata and HH know who that is.

  79. # 86 Yes that I will always support Maj Chizyuka on his principal to reject the pact from the day it was formed, we are now reaping what we sow. But who will help us to come out of this mess. We need to raise some one from the dead like that rich man in the parable of Jesus to come and tell HH that the route is taking UPND is leading to the death of the party.

  80. Our current constitution does not allow coalition government how then is pact going to form a government can Senior shed light on this issue. While we can not ignore the past but we can not also ignore common sense when we see our weakness in such issues. Coming together the way ULP, FDD and UNIP supported the MMD in 2008 meant well because MMD had a mandate to finish the 5 year term.Coming together for confusion is not what Zambians need.Zambians need good leadership with one vision not divided principals one says I do not need Chinese investment the other says we need Chinese Investment so how are you going to make a government?

  81. # 91 As if Mazoka’s vision was buried with him. We need to raise another Prophet from UPND who will take the vision to higher height, HH has buried the vision to say the least.

  82. For once, a prominent politician has told the truth!!

And going by the comments from MMD cadres and bootlickers on this thread, one doesn’t have to imagine the kind of “diarrhea” HH’s statement has caused in the MMD party. They were hoping the PACT would be died by now.

Remember how loud-mouthed sycophants like SENIOR CITIZEN, MMD CHIEF BOOTLICKER, and the like celebrated when the pact had a little bit of trouble in the previous by-elections? Now all they can do is belittle HH for being honest. What exactly does DEMOCRACY mean to these people?!

Well, like it or not, democracy is all about making personal and political trade-offs/sacrifices in the best interest of ones country—-and the PACT leaders seems to be doing so.

MMD, your days may be numbered—-sweeeeet!

  83. Yambayamba,

You must be deranged in your head to think Bantu Botatwe would be subservient to the insanity of Sata at any time in contemporary political order. Ever wondered why no one in the UPND leadership is passionate about this joke. Tell us when you ever heard Fredrick Hapunda, Hachipuka, Matongo, Mwiimbu, Dr.Mudenda, Mtinta Mazoka, Dr.Beyani or Regina Musokotwane rallying around this ukubuta?

  84. I have taken some time to read all the comments above and there is no doubt that most of the comments were posted by MMD sympathisers who are urinating in their pants with fear because they are worried that a united opposition will spell doom for MMD. There is nothing new with what HH has said here. This is the same message HH has been hammering over and over that to defeat MMD we need a united opposition! In saying this HH is not implying in any way that he will be Sata’s vice nor is he suggesting that UPND is losing popularity.Any serious minded intellectual knows that in African politics it is difficult to defeat a ruling party with a divided opposition because corruption and abuse of government resources by the party in power.Only idi.ots wouldn’t understand this. Do you expect RB…

  85. cont. from #96..and his tendon of corrupt thieves to give up power easily? You must be in dream land! They will fight to the grave just to maintain the status quo. When MMD is challenged with a formidable opposition they will use any means including tribal divisions, violence, murder to stay in power. If any one has any doubts about this look no further than Mufumbwe and Solwezi were MMP experimented on the tactics they are likely to adopt in 2011. It’s no coincidence that MMD are training a militia lead by William Banda to cause havoc next year. They are also busy fermenting tribal divisions and promoting hatred between the Bembas and Tongas through their vuvuzelas so that they potray themselves as a national party. Only f.ools will fall for this bu.llshit. The Zambia people are alert…

  86. 96 # Zed Patroit – I have always respected your comments. However, this should not be a SPIN ZONE. Face the facts – this is not just good for HH.

Yes, he may have humbled himself and told the truth but these are damaging comments coming from him at this junction. Do you really think that the PACT will work? If HH decides to give Sata the platform to stand at PACT Presidential Contender – what voice will come from the UPND Hardcore Grassroots??

  87. cont.from#97..and have refused to be divided. HH symbolises this unity and resolve to kick out this corrupt and wasteful govt. My advise to PF cadres is that they should not be decieved by Mmembe that they can go it alone. You will just be playing in MMD’s hands. It’s time you humbled yourselves and stop pushing for Sata to be the pact leader because that won’t work. MMD have already devised a strategy to neutralise Sata. If you can’t accept HH, for tribal reasons, as pact leader you are better off identifying someone else to sponsor for the pact presidency.

  88. #98 Independent Observer: Thanx for your comment. I still maintain that Sata is not the right person to lead the pact. Given a choice between the two evils i.e Sata and RB, I for one will prefer RB to Sata.

  89. Zed Patriot 99#
I am with you. Sata coming to power will mean that Zambia will be ruled by KAPONYA’s and not The Rule Of Law. It will be a Dark Day for country. He has shown this in the past, what more if he gets to State House.

  90. Note to Senio.r Citizen: It is unZambian to continue using a dead person’s name for political reasons. You are advised to stop exploiting Mazoka’s name to score political points otherwise his spirit will haunt you for ever. We all know that you never believed the things you are saying about him(MHSRIP) while he was alive.

  91. Zed Patriot

Your dilemma is what most UPND supporters have. I have spoken to a lot of intellectual professional friends in the UK, USA, Germany Australia and Japan. They all say that given a choice they would go for RB and not SATA. So you are not alone

I am neither MMD, PF nor UPND – but just with an Independent View. Else, just interpreting what is on the ground back home in Zambia through online media.

This is one of the reasons why the PACT cannot win. If Sata leads the PACT then what from UPND Supporters, apart from voting for RB, especially in Marginal Areas. And who would blame them?

  92. Zambian politics is getting to be nausiating and repulsive. You have the ruling MMD with stale old outdated politicians clinging on to power with ideals from the 60s. RB, seriously give me a break, this man should be in a retirement home kicking back.. On the other hand you have a fragmented opposition going nowhere, no solutions or blueprints, just attacks and rebattles. What Zambia needs is a young fresh 21st centuary leader outside of mainstream politics who is trully pasionate about realizing real change for Zambia and not into political games. A Zambian “Obama” so to speak, in with the new, out with old. Zambia does not need old school freedom fighter politicians like Sata, RB & the likes. You did your bit fighting for independence, enjoy your fruits & let the young flourish!!!

  93. HH has really wisened up, the same people who cheated him 2006 cheated him again in 2008. now they are going to cheat RB. But now had better stop cheating Maestro hehehe that you can win alone.

  94. #103 I agree with you. Many voters in the country have shown that they do not trust Sata. In many provinces he is always third and that is the reason why MMD have won the elections in 2006 and 2008. If PF was coming second in the areas where UPND is strong then the situation would be very different. This has got to be taken in the context of what has been happening recently such as the bumper maize harvest. People try and ignore such developments but for many voters a choice between Sata and RB is a no brainer. Do you honestly see people in W or S province voting for Sata? It is not just about tribe as people say but about character. Sata’s personality is his biggest liability. If the pact go Sata, then I see them losing a lot of votes in W, S, NW and C provinces.

  95. Independent Observer
That is the dilemma with the Pact. If they choose Sata then MMD will win. Most urban intellectuals and democrats wouldn’t vote for Sata. Most rural voters in UPND strongholds and rural marginal areas won’t vote for Sata because of the things he said in the past and the negative campaign MMD has spread about him. MMD will use rebel UPND MPs like Chizyuka to decampaign Sata. MMD has got it all worked out to stop Sata at all cost. The Pact will only win if anybody else other than Sata is adopted. I know PF cadres won’t like this but that is the truth. HH campaigning for Sata just won’t work because MMD will label him a sellout and use the same tactics propagated on this site to hammer him left, right, centre.

  96. I know PF cadres will accuse me of double standards. What will happen if HH is adopted? Well, HH does not carry the same political garbage that Sata has because he is new on the political scene. Most PF supporters are urban based and understand politics better than the rural volks so it is easier to convince them to back HH. MMD will try to use the tribal tag to tarnish him, but that can easily be countered because he will be representing the PACT and not UPND. They might try to bring in his past business dealings but these are issues that HH has dealt with before and weathered the storm. HH against RB will offer a proper contrust between the new and the old. HH can be sold as the man to breath some fresh air in Zambian politics.

  97. Zambia has moved on from what it was in 1991, and this is the point HH is missing. It will be foolhardy for HH to assume that Sata has changed from what he was in 2001 when he ordered the maiming of Chawama residents. HH utterances shows that he has no principles and suffers from breathtaking recklessness. In the 9 years of PF’s existence, they have failed to produce a policy document which states clearly what they intend to do for Zambia. 2011 elections are not about the bembas or tongas getting their hands on the levers of power. Given the previously well-publicised concerns from the public about the leadership qualities of PF leaders, why is HH sacrificing UPND? What HH apparently does not know is that not a soul in the PF rank and file takes him seriously.

  98. 108# Zed Patriot & 107# Chomba Malaila

Gents! This is the reason why we need another Pure Independent News Paper and not Right Wing Government Media and Left Wing – The Post. We need a Balanced Media that does not support the Government or Opposition Parties. But to report based on facts and interpret Fairly & Justly.

  99. MMD will carry 2011 for a # of reasons most already raised. MMD has the machinery in place to coordinate a nationwide campaign. MMD is already aware of the strong legions of PF & those areas will follow previous trends in favor of PF. The X-factor has always been the rural vote. Eastern no question is RB land, Western & Southern have always been skeptical of Sata. As someone mentioned given the choice, these provinces will go for RB, a case of better safe than sorry. HHs role was to swing the pendulam from W & S province. The million dollar question is can HH achieve this? In my humble opinion, I dont think so. Even his fellow Tonga bretheren in S. province may turn their back against HH simply because Sata is in the mix, he is too unpredictable & not trusworthy (snake/King Cobra????)

  100. 112# Non-Aligned Zambian

100% Correct – I can see reasonable thinking people from the South doing what you have just said.
It all about playing the MATRIX MOVES from now own.

  101. am more than happy to learn that HH, has taken time to realise the statistics on the ground, that the opposition cannot go it alone if the intend to win. What we need is a strong opposition. One that will provide checks and balances in the govt. With the opposition uniting, maybe we may see elections in the pact. The only worry is whether Sata would accept if he lost an election to HH.But I also feel that is quite unlikely due to the fact that Sata has got quite a bigger crowd as compared to HH.At the end of the day,it doesnt matter who runs for president or ends up preesident as long as our poor nation is better off

  102. I have to agree with Zed Patriot on his comments in 96 & 97, where has HH said he will accept to be VP?? HH is only saying the truth that only a combied opposition can dislodge MMD. If HH stands alone and loses the election what will you chaps say then? That he should have never left the Pact? One avenue to look at is let Sata stand for president and if he misbehaves impeach the chap through vote of no confidence, or am i dreaming??

  103. 115,I at times find myself with a perspective as yours, but at the end of the day people want change, and as a country its imperative that we mek first best choices.I am not of the view that Sata is the best man for the job but I dont think he would be a bad President either.HH would also be a good option due to the fact that he has an economic background and I am also aware that Rupiah equaly has.In short Zambia has a leadership vacuum and we have to make do with wat we have.According to the newspapers it appers Zambians are fed up due to the Govts alighnment with corrupt people and hence demanding for change. In such a situation am of the view of new people been tried so as to se were the can take Zambia. The MMD hasnt been so bad in serving as but its time we tried others

  104. HH has spoken well. The defunct MMD should be very scared and i am sure they are panicking because Magande is going to split them. Back to your farms my friends.

  105. On “The UPND leader [HH] further stated that the UPND/PF pact is intact despite attacks that from the ruling MMD and its sympathizers.[..] And ULP vice president Gabriel Chibambula has resigned to join the opposition UPND.[..] Welcoming Mr. Chibambula into the UPND, party president Hakainde Hichilema said the party needs more people” this shows that the mighty UPND Group is a serious political party in Zambia to reckon. I hope UPND will continue campaigning to form GRZ Administration with or without PF in 2011.

In all, the message in this article is good for Zambia and Zambians because there is hope for a change of GRZ Administration in HH.

    Have a blessed day all.

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added…

  106. 126# Maestro Hhehhehhehhe, welcome back my cousin. The mood of the grassroots is different from what HH is saying we only hope that HH will be the leader of the pact.If by adventure Mr Sata takes the leadership of the pact we can bait 10 animals the pact will lose it.Grassroots members are even suggesting that if HH loses the leadership of the pact, UPND members will call for convention in 2011 to choose another leader to replace HH so that the party can save the lost votes which may go to MMD.

  107. Iwe ci Maestro hehehhhhhhh you’ve avoided to comment on HH’s admission that he can not win an election on his own. come bite the bullet treat us to some comedy dont forget a footnote(verse) at the bottom. Am waiting.

  108. According to the PF/Sata MC vuvuzela under a story entitled “GBM should be ashamed“, “There is a tendency in our society to believe that people’s anti-social behaviour can be separated from their performance as leaders. In other words, we seem to believe that somebody can be scandalous and despicable in their private lives and yet be able to perform in a leadership position. If somebody cannot manage their behaviour, how can they be a leader?” This applies to the Mr serpentine PF/Sata Michael Chilufya although it was written to cut GBM to size. The alleged performance of the serpentine Sata MC with his anti-social behaviour towards non-Bemba Zambian people is not good and must be condemned so that he gives it up.

    Have a blessed day all.
    _
    Matt 6:33 But seek ye…

  109. 127 Village Concept greetings and thanks cousin, on your “The mood of the grassroots is different from what HH is saying we only hope that HH will be the leader of the pact” HH knows what he is doing and let us just give him a chance to prove to us that he is craft.

The thing is that you can not change things from the outside and so HH has to join the Bemba speaking kaponyas who support the serpentine Sata MC so that HH can get their sympathy. Remember, Jesus Christ did not conquer the devil/satan at Calvary with divine or human power but with meekness and resolve not to give us the fight to give salvation to the whole world.

Believe me, I attended one of the UPND/POST meetings and I guess HH will stand in 2011.

    Have a blessed day all.
    _
    Matt 6:33 But seek ye…

  110. I allow me to add some comments to the current PACT situ. MMD is a very cleaver party. They did away with the degree clause in the NCC debate because they know that would have made it plain clear that HH would be the right candidate to stand on the PACT ticket and MMD will have few stories/issues to rise to discredit HH during election compaigns. So MMD with the VJ thinking machine removed the degree clause so that the PACT could consider SATA as PACT leader to give MMD advantage over PACT bacause MMD and VJ have tonnes of issues to talk about SATA unlike HH. So popo ba pa Zed &PACT committee members think and draw lines on this advise. HH will easily sell like hot cake if choicen as PACT leader. SATA’s time in politics is over. Check how many local by- elections has PF lost.

  111. Following “It is like the 73-year-old Mr Sata is the PF’s life president, which even raises more concerns on whether the party’s constitution was not just authored by the unchallengeable political comedian… [PF/SATA MC] is a party that seemingly has no guidelines on how to fill vacancies, leaving everything to Mr Sata’s whims.[..] It is Mr [Serpentine PF/MC] Sata who appoints himself, appoints a vice-president, appoints a national chairperson, appoints a secretary-general and appoints members of the central committee, the UNIP style” nicely written under a title “Mwamba’s (GBM) case exposes Sata’s dictatorial leadership” in the Times of Zambia, HH knows what he has to do to win Zambians’ sympathy votes.

Moono Chanda, your comment is right.

    Be blest all…

  112. Maestro hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Chicken you are jumping the comment HH made about him being inadequate to win an election without help from stronger parties. I salute HH for telling off dreamers and headless cadres like yourself and that lunatic called Chizyuka, am beginning to believe he’s one of the very few selfless leaders Zambia.

  113. #131 Chanda Moono
Nothing can be further from the truth than what you saying. As far as i can remember VJ has always been used during campaigns by the MMD and Sata has thamped them silly in the recent elections in relatively civilised arears of the country. So what tones of issues does VJ have against Sata that has failed to win votes for MMD in areas where people are enlightened and have access to latest news in the recent past elections? The truth is he’s got none and he’s just a useless drug baron who for some reason basks in the glory of being called an election rigger. Chicken Maestro hehehehhhhh please we still waiting for you comment on HH’s admission.

  114. HH is right and Only if they form either a Political Party or merger, otherwise it will not be possible to remove MMD.This will also help the opposition come up with Democratically elected President and Leaders in Opposition.
Although time has run out but it can work.PACT won’t do anything.

  115. msana wanzili
What HH meant/said was that UPND or PF can not win elections if they stand as individual parties. MMD will take advantage and win. As a combined opposition they can beat MMD. Looking at the past results there is evidence of ethnic/tribal based voting. It is clear that most Northerners will support PF, most Easterners will support MMD and most Southerners will support UPND. That is why N/Western & Western Provinces have been the king makers. Central P will be split with the Southern part of Central Province voting UPND, the Northern part voting PF and the Eastern part voting MMD. Urban areas like C/B & Lusaka also follow similar pattens depending on which ethnic groups are majority in certain localities. PF also tends to win they minds & souls of poor urban dwellers.

  116. #136 ZED Patriot
I have always said there’s no alternative to a united opposition if we are see the back of this playful President whose speciality is BBQing and flying around aimlessly. And i’ve as well declared my preference for HH to lead the match to statehouse unfortunately some rogues within his party are so determined to ruin his chances because of their insatiable appetite for tribalism. If we were to play their game it would be easy for some of us to support RB, him being our cousin and vow not to allow a bantu botatwe party to ever happen again but is that what how country in I.C.U need at this moment, the answer is NO we need to pull together in one direction and find a suitable ZAMBIAN and not a suitable tribe.
Now ZED Patriot try to preach that to your mate maestro

  117. #137 Zed patriot
cont………………. try preaching that to Maestro hehhhhhhhhh my fellow sabbath keeper and see what he will be spewing out, to him it’s non negotiable his tribesmate MUST lead the Pact or he will force the entire Southern Province to vote for MMD instead. I only hope this rogue doesnt hold any position in our church because his tribalism is frightening.

  118. 139 Zed Patriot I am very disappointed with you on your “#137 & 138 msana wanzili… Well said, Zambia would be better place if we had more people like you” which is in support of a tribalist’s word who has the nerve to write on “If we were to play their game it would be easy for some of us to support RB, him being our cousin and vow not to allow a bantu botatwe party to ever happen again but is that what how country in I.C.U need at this moment, the answer is NO we need to pull together in one direction and find a suitable ZAMBIAN and not a suitable tribe.”

The sick who thinks SDAdventism is about accusing in lost and needs help to realise that his being a cousin to easterners is nothing. what is at stake is that he is a human being who must support all…

  119. Maestro Hhehhehhehhe

Let me clarify my point. My comment on msana wanzili above is based on his comment that, quote ‘And i’ve as well declared my preference for HH to lead the match to statehouse’ no more no less.
