Zambian women cited as most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS

The Zambia AIDSLaw Research and Advocacy Network (ZARAN) says women in Zambia are the most vulnerable to HIV/AIDS as they are denied rights to make informed sexual and reproductive choices.

ZARAN Board Chairperson Eddie Mwitwa said research has shown that out of the percentage of people infected with HIV/AIDS the majority are women.

Mr Mwitwa noted that the pandemic in women especially is being accelerated by cultural practices and other traditional practices which forces women to endanger their lives to fulfill traditional roles.

He said some of the means ways his organisation is using to curb the pandemic is through research and debate by students thereby educating the public on risk behaviours and how they can protect themselves.

Mr Mwitwa said the high risk levels of HIV/AIDS have prompted his organisation to embark on preventive and treatment measures to ensure that the rates are reduced.

He noted that the pandemic in women is being accelerated by cultural practices and other traditional practices which forces women to endanger their lives to fulfill traditional roles.

Mr Mwitwa was speaking in Lusaka today during the annual students’ 2010 debate organised by ZARAN for university and college students.

Two Universities and two colleges battled it out for the K4 million grand prize money in which the runners up are expected to take home K3 million while the best debater will get away with K500,000.

The debate attracted participation from the Copperbelt University (CBU), Cavendish University of Zambia (CUZ), National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA) and Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS).

The first tie was between Cavendish University and ZCAS who debated under the topic, “Women Living and affected with HIV have access to prevention, treatment, care and support.”

While the second session was between CBU and NIPA who argued for and against the motion, “discrimination of HIV transmission will benefit women.”

  1. Adam or Eve.

Oh sorry I now remember, it was Eve.

And, well would Adam be paid to be ?????

Of course not. Eve would always demand to be rewarded or in some circumstances be paid for ???

But Adam makes the final decision.

Sorry, Eve decides. No glove, no love. And in extreme circumstances, no cash, no love.

    Then who is to blame?

    Kaya.

  2. Wake up call!! The culture of Zedian women beliveing that “dry sex” is prefered by men is totally dangerous, women insert stuff “mutweno” thinking it would help shrink their bits to that of a virgins which is rubbish, the cuture of pulling the labia just deforms the woman making them look like they have cancer, on the other hand draining all the juices which helps lubricate the vagina to avoid rough friction which might cause cuts, bruises and sores etc… is what makes women infect themselves so easily!!!:((

  3. #2 I so agree with you. Zambian men love dry sex. Until I experienced other wise, I will never go back to that. In Zed a wet or aroused woman is termed as “icha menshi”. This is so misleading. Most Zed women have never even experienced and will never experience an orgasm because 99.9% of Zed men love dry sex which in turn makes it easy for HIV transmission! #4 the ice cube method is just as rubbish as taking herbal porridge. Kegel exercise is the way to go!

  4. #2 that is so true! Statistically speaking, its easy for a man to transmit HIV than it is for a woman. In Zed what happens is the men have too many girlfriends and coupled with having dry sex, they end up transmitting the disease. In the USA, most black men are on the ‘DL’ and as such, they end up spreading the disease via s.e.m.e.n. to women. JSYN, 99.999% of gay men are HIV+.

  5. Ati, Ukufunda umwana kufikapo! No beating about the bush.. You Get Me!? Lekeni ubufontinin mwebantu. These meaningless cultures is what is killing YOU!

  6. people are so brainwashed with these “teachings” and do not take time to make their own decisions.
men like different things and so do women.if your man is a fool and wheather you are tight or not, intelligent or not, helpful or not, pretty or not, supportive or not he will still cheat on you regardless because it has nothing to do with you. he is just not man enough.
God knew why he wanted us lubricated and men should find pillows if they cant handle that.
i implore ZARAN, the Church and the Min. Of Health to come up with programs to teach women & men especially these bana chimbusas ( traditional tutors) about the health implications of their teachings. times have changed and so should their teachings.if he cant do it well when lubricated then he should go visit his uncles.

  7. Then Eve thinks, uhm! How do I take Adam away from the other Eve??

Ice, Ice, suggests one Eve to her sister.

No no, Its flagyl, it works wonders. says another sister.

Awe!! says another sister. If you want Adam to completely abandon the other Eve, go for the roots.

Spectators are left wondering who to blame.

    Awe mwandini

    Kaya

  8. Zedians are just coming out of the woods, we still have a long way to go. As long as we are in denial people will keep dying out of ignorance rather than fate. Invite me to come and give your banachimbusa sex education, becuz their practices are perverse!!!
Young girls are traumatised by these “freakish practices” girls are taught to fiddle with their privates, by old women forcing young girls into genital elongation (IMISHINO or “roastbeef curtains”) it must be an insult to your God as a christian nation, you doubt his intelligence as to why he created things you as he did, if you are going to change it. Some women now go for plastic surgery called labiaplasty to reduce the dangling bits, they just get in the way anyway! You cannot milk a man without muscles, the labia is just…
