A Pact of Naivety: Hakainde Hichilema and his Lost Battle for the Pact

Share

By Elias Munshya wa Munshya

In an earlier article, I had given the so called UPND/PF Pact until November 2010 to survive. After November, I predicted that it was going to disintegrate into stark factions and rancour. November is two months away and all the signs are all here. The Pact has
collapsed. The winner in this break-up is unfortunately, Michael Sata and the loser of course is his counterpart Hakainde Hichilema. In this article, I wish to examine how HH lost the battle for the Pact because of his political naiveté.

Hakainde Hichilema failed to control his message going into the pact. He was undoubtedly motivated by a modest desire to see that the MMD does not retain power in 2011. But that is where the problem lay. HH did not care about the disparate manifestos that his party had with PF. Instead, his actions were characteristically opportunistic. He was ready to compromise his pro-business principles, pro-constitution values and the democratic character of his UPND. He was willing to sacrifice all these ideals at the altar of the PF’s anti-business and dictatorial trends. I do wonder why it never occurred to HH that the PF he wanted to go to bed with had never conducted intra-party elections at any level, from its branches to its Central Committee, in the 9 years of its existence.

Hakainde Hichilema lamentably failed to keep and enforce political discipline within his UPND ranks. As a party under Anderson Mazoka, the UPND was very well rallied around its party president. Mazoka was undoubtedly a respected leader within the UPND. But as HH took over, it was clear that he was no match for Mazoka. HH found it difficult to escape Anderson’s shadows. An incessant comparison between him and Kambela yielded miserable outcomes. When problems started to develop within the UPND/PF Pact, HH tried and failed to articulate to his people to give the pact a chance. It looks like more junior UPND structures had no hope in PF’s sincerity about the Pact. And as such, they just saw no reason why their leader wanted to insist on it.

The greatest show of indiscipline came when the UPND national Youth Chairman Joe Kalusa expressed doubt about the leadership abilities of the UPND and PF leaders in pact. HH had all but failed to whip and rally his troops.

Hakainde Hichilema’s public insistence that he cannot win the 2011 elections if the UPND went it alone shows his political naïveté. Politics is a game of posturing. It never is a game of veracity and actuality. It is a game of cards, opportunity and courage. But HH just recently told his followers not to cheat him into thinking that he can win the 2011 elections singlehandedly. This defeatist mentality is contrary to the spirit of Zambian politics. HH’s insistence that he needs a Pact to dislodge the MMD from power is perhaps one single statement that seals his fate as a political neophyte.

Even leaders of smaller parties in Zambia, without parliamentary presence, never display such defeatism. They go on fighting. Parties such as Heritage Party, or even Reform Party or indeed UNIP do go into elections with a courage and belief that they are in it to win. None of party presidents ever say that they cannot win an election. Michael Sata himself as leader of the PF never says that he cannot win the presidency unaided. In fact, what HH said made him appear politically immature compared to his counterpart. That it is the UPND that needed the Pact more than the PF needed it can be comfortably inferred from HH’s statements. In politics, many would rather vote for a ten-man party whose leader believes that he can win, than vote for a millions’ party whose leader displays spineless attitudes. HH has lost the battle for the Pact because he as evidenced by his recent statements cannot win the 2011 election unless he stood on the Pact’s ticket.

The UPND and Hakainde Hichilema do still have a huge role to play in the political arena in Zambia, however. As a party that is rising in its popularity, HH should not have discouraged his supporters that the UPND cannot triumph. He instead needed to encourage them if they are to continue with their resurgence in Northwestern Province and beyond. As HH is telling us about his inabilities, a new National Movement for Progress (NMP) under Ng’andu Magande is reverberating in Monze and beyond.

Magande does believe that he is the right man for Zambia and is coming to the year 2011 with the audacity to win. If HH continues with his naivety, the people of Southern Province may switch their allegiance from his UPND to NMP or worse still the MMD.

All Ng’andu needs to tell the South, the North, the East and the West is that he has become the heir of their desire to see a developed Zambia. If it is time for a southerner to lead their beloved country, Magande may be the man. At least, unlike one Hakainde Hichilema, he believes it.

  1. It is not a lost cause hope they can work something out it is not too late the two leaders need to meet sooner than later – ASAP

  2. The article is on point. Mr. Hichilema will emerge from this pact as the biggest loser. He has already told his voters that he cannot win the presidency on the feet of UPND but on that of the “Pact”. How a presidential aspirant shows such low self esteem of his party members is beyond me. If you cannot secure the UPND the presidency, might as well resign as UPND president.

Why then does UPND exist if they cannot win elections? to be mortgaged to the PF? If that is the case, why doesn’t the whole UPND dislodge and join the PF in mass. That seems like the only solution in this political satire called pact. The true comedy of all errors committed by UPND.

UPND better get their priorities in order. Their stance on a lot of issues is totally different from PF.

  3. The article should have been titled: ” My Attack on Hakainde Hichilema”. The article is mediocre and lacks data to support your dislike for HH. The problem with Zambian analysis facts is that we tend to be too subjective when facts are there. Read post editorial of yestarday and you will understand the problem with the PACT. Its about 2 sets of people who dream they have won the election, and can do without each other. They dont know that while a person dreams, they need to wakeup, start walking the walk to ensure the dream can be realised. I personally see mediocrity in both the PF and the UPND for having squandered the chance to lead Zambia when it desperately needs a paradigm shift from that set in 1991. Chance come once, Sata and HH cant see!!

  4. The PF has vuvuzelas like Kabimba; and the UPND has vuvuzelas like Kalusa. Surely who wins and who will be the looser? We can see that they are fighting for positions even before they arrive; and I can assure you things will not change for better in Zambia for as long as we have politics of this nature. It sucks, and it hurts especially if you live in a country where things are discussed in an orderly way, and logic prevails. In Zambia logic is pushed asside when it matters most. What a beutiful country given to fools!! Shi Mwansa, 2011 pankoloko for as long as we can get something from MMD, probably thats all we can get, as we groom fresk kids to take over in 2021.

  5. very correct analysis. lets see the kaponya’s and other upnd spineless tribalists respond. elias predicted whats happening now early in the year and many other writers argued the same but were insulted and vilified by pact activists

  6. i know zambians who are very angry at the PF and UPND; and they have categorcally stated that they are better off staying at home because their votes will be rigged anyway. People saw hope to change things, just may be a different thief migh steal less, they thought. But they are having to think of 5 more years with the shikapwasha,Dora, mulongoti, leaders of their calibre!! imagine how it hurts. People started dreaming of fresh ministers in the likes of Prof Chirwa, and the so called learned of UPND. I wish I had a direct email address to these PACT people, i would have started an electronic petition so that the see for themselves. Does leadership only mean “presidency”? Sorry people, i better stop here cause am now taking it too personal. its just a game called politics. Godbless…

  7. fwaka you talk of facts:

fact 1: HH did make the statement on radio that he cannot win an election alone
fact 2: Both kabimba and guy scott have been critical of UPND publicly without censure from Sata, in fact, yesterday sata went on air to defend kabimba
fact 3: Douglas Syakalima, senior adviser to HH also made negative statements about pact
fact 4: joe kalusa has not received any reprimand from UPND over this pact comments
fact 5: Post newspaper has deliberately stopped covering upnd and thus HH and his team have been relying on the same state media they used to insult
fact 6: magande will split the vote in southern province and from the reliable sources he is looking to link up with most of the old upnd team like patrick chisanga and sichinga robert

  8. HH, this country does not accommodate trueth… shuwa mwandi. What you said was correct bearing in mind mmd vote riging behaviour. All people want is make noise on resime change but dont want to face the how. Leave it for sata or magande and lets see if they will dislodge RB.

  9. so mr fwaka tell us which of the above are not facts or please show us in the article what is not fact? it is very clear HH is a naive politician and has been used by sata who has gained more out of this than has upnd. even as pact breaks PF has come out looking the more sensible party and upnd look like opportunists that have been caught with their pants down.

  10. and to think an effective campaigner like chizyuka was allowed to go for the sake of the so called pact? what more evidence do you want to show the political naivety of HH. Chizyuka now has a big platform to destroy UPND in southern province and with the magande factor upnd is finished. further five mp’s from upnd are already with MMD and just waiting for dissolution of parliament and will head out to mmd

  11. The problem we have in this nation is that many people live on illusions created for them by the PF. They are many who think they know when they don’t know. And they perceive the few that know as those who don’t know. I just could not understand how the interllectuals of UPND were goin to merge themselves with the PF. The fact that HH has insisted on the PACT, exposes him as a selfish individual not interested in a progressive Zambia.
Intellectuals and thugs cannot work together. It is either reason dominates or the law of the jungle dominates.
In this case we saw the law of the jungle taking precedence.
If most of the blogers here represents the thinking of many Zambians, one can only conclude we have alot of dull people in zambia.
But if it is the few who just have anything to say,

  12. But if it is the few who are just vocal and will say anything without proper analysis, then reason must find a way justifying itself. They must feel ashamed to speak from there pedestals

  13. WITH ALL THESE PROBLEMS AND NEGATIVE VIEWS FROM THOSE WHO ARE ANT-PACT, I SEE THE PACT COMING OUT OF THE MESS STRONG THAN EVER!! IT WILL TAKE JUST ONE MEETING OF RECONCILLIATION AND HEADS WILL ROLL. WHAT DO YOU THINK FWAKA? JUST WAIT AND SEE…………………………..

  14. Ba # 21 am good , and you?

Its just sad that HH is waking up now… he has been duped all the way since the wedding of inconvinience took place…..

  15. What I dont understand is why HH thought working with Sata would help him. The man has lived all his life in Zambia and he knows what kind of a snake Sata is, why go near him so that you get bitten and die from his poison? The greatest asset HH had was his youth. He should have used that to herald a new dawn of Zambian politics and portray RB and Sata as the old dinosaurs that they are. He should have been travelling round the country meeting people as well as trying to recruit more people from all Zambian provinces into UPND. Instead of giving us concrete policies he started the game of insulting. At times he even managed to make Sata look like the reasonable one. If he stays in the pact, Southern province goes to Magande which means PF wont even need him, so where does he go now?

  16. So the author what`s to convince us that Magande is a better tonga bull than HH when it comes to the southern vote ? I guess the almost good article was spoiled by the ending coz Magande`s party is still some few fortnights old ,hence can`t be compared to HH and his UPND.

  17. The statements HH has been issuing has been as a result of the cobra’s venon working in his system. He must have been injected with neurotoxins. He is no longer himself.

  18. It’s amazing how people have ganged up to use means at their desposal to attack HH. Surely how can the Pacts problems now become HH’s problem. The Post has never liked HH and have taken a strong stance to discredit him. We the people who vote are watching.

  19. Its good for the two parties to part company now ,than later as they can not agree on obvious things like which of the two parties emerged second to mmd, and which of the two leaders is more popular to the electorate countrywise than the other. The statistics are there for all to see.My advise to Sata and HH is disband NOW and let the people decide which leader and party they want lead them come 2011.This internal wrangles in the pact have been a source of worry for along time now.You are spendind too much time butchering yourselves instead of exposing mmd misdeeds and poor governance and lack of sight by mmd to read what is obtaining on the ground.Actually the 1991 scenario will repeat itself in 2011 votin pattern.Good luck to the party that is enjoying popularity.

  20. I knew form the very beginning of the pact..HH is good in all ways and he is a gooa man very humble i really the man Sata should learn more from HH

  21. Whatever is happening in the Pact does not supprise me at all. This is purely down to the leaders Egoes taking the better of the pact.

  22. My dear friend the auther, i know u r an anti-HH. Now listen 2me n listen good; HH was n is very honest wth himself n his supporters. The aim of the pact was primarily 2 eject mmd from power next year n ths idea was endorsed by both parties wether u agree or not but this is the truth. I know tht pf is not honest enouf 2 openly say they need 2 partner wth other parties 2 win but tht is also a fact. If the pact realy crumbles as it seem, then mmd wil retain power next year. So ba auther get tht behind ur head. The pf cant win single handedly.

  23. PACT OR NO PACT, MMD WIL WIN NEXT YEAR. I SAY SO BECAUSE IT IS NEITHER HH NOR SATAN WHO WUD HAV DETERMINED THE DIRECTION THE RESULTS IN THE FAVOR OF THE PACT. IT IS THE VOTERS WHO MATTER AT THE END OE THE DAY.

IF SATAN WUD BE PRESIDENT OF THE PACT, THEN HE SHUD 4GET SOUTHERN PROVINCE n OTHER HH STRONGHOLDS BECOZ THEY DONT LIKE HIM AND IF HH WUD BE PACT PRESIDENT THEN HE SHUD 4GET ABOUT SATA’S STRONGHOLDS.
THIS WUD ALL HAPPEN BECOZ OF THE TRIBAL N ETHNIC NATURE OF POLITCS IN ZAMBIA.

THERE IS NO MORE TIME 2 CONVICE HH SUPPORTERS 2 LIKE SATA N VICEVERSA. IT IS ALL LOST UNLESS A MIRACLE HAPPENS.

  24. We Munshya-Am not sure how sincere, free spirited & logical you r in your articles. U ve rightly said HH thot gettn into PACT would rid this country of sticky MMD. There r no other ways my bro! U ve also stated that HH said he cannot win elections without PACT-As human beings, being gullible is not a good thing & HH saying that does not make him have a defeat mentality at all. Count how many parties have come & gone-some r still there & making a life on the opposition platform when they r not even there let alone the same poor & naive zambians see them fit to do so. Neither will PF rid of MMD single handedly. However, i agree with your sentiments on HH’s inability to discipline his own party members especially the youth.Order is paramount in these parties for longevity’s sake.

  25. cont..35. MMD has stood strong because it has dealt with any threat within their walls of crooks. We ve seen arrogant members expelled but if its Sata,he is being dictatorial! Miyanda is regarded by some as a christian leader but 10yrs down, he remains the president of this petty party. If its Sata, we would all say ni Cobra! If HH managed to put order in his house, he would not being having these problems. I must also state that in the PACT, many members including youth, r seeking positions come 2011 if at all grace is on their side. Thats were the inferiority in UPND mostly from its youth is coming from. Of all people,no matter how outspoken Cornelius is, he should have not been d-spokeperson. There is needed for seasons members to carry the mantle while the kids r learning for some time.

  26. #23. Am good. HH its time to reorganise yourself leave the venomous cobra. possibly hire image builders and get back to politics of issues.

  27. the worst thing in life is to create a lie and then belive it the following day. when some PF thugs say UPND has come out as a loser than PF, i don’t understand the basis of this anaylsis. is it about lost numbers, what is the basis? is it becoz HH said he can’t win alone? but can Sata win? who has lost more, Sata or HH?. let me tell u that since the formation of this so called PACT UPND has won a total 25 local govt and parliamentary seats with PF only managing 7 and all just retaining own seats.the UPND has managed to reclaim its lost strong holds of western, North western, central and part of Lusaka while the PF has not expanded its coverage and have even lost seats in Luapula to MMD.the problem with PF is memory lose just like their leader who can’t remember that UPND existed…

  28. PF contested Chadiza and kaoma seat with UPND, MMD got it UPND came 2nd in all and PF last. who has lost more from this PACT. u wanted HH to be your vice at all cost, the guy is smart. infact i will appreciate if both parties compete in Chilanga and see who has even lost more. when u talk of UPND losing more, give facts and numbers.come 2011 , PF will come third mark my words.Winter said it is impossible for HH to be the leader of the PACT then why should UPND remain in this useless PACT.HH can lose the next 30 yrs he will still be younger than Sata at his current age. where will be sata then?

  29. [email protected] trouble with your kind of cadrism is coz, u r not trying to marry the two parties strength’s and see what that can do to the much needed change of govt you prematurely purpot to lurk. The truth is HH has been selfish too. Sata will always feel he must be the leader because-he formed the party(allow me t say singlehandedly). Who has ever formed a party on this earth & left it to the other person? Mazoka formed UPND & not HH, HH must learn to do one thing at a time or else, as one scholar has put it, dont trust someone who tries all his life to get to state house. UPND is not wining those seats based on UPND as a structure but on individual likings. In any case PF has a large following too & the end is a split vote at the expense what, only HH knows. UPND must not claim for top

  30. the post PF vuvuzela are creating a picture as if it was UPND who started all this nosense yet its their Winter endorsed by Mr. inconsistent. UPND was merely responding to that attack. u wanted UPND just to keep quite and say its fine. u seriously need to respect your friends. u talk of Magande’s party getting votes from southern and Upnd in particular.magande was rejected from southern province many years ago.what makes u think like that? why don’t u talk of MMD since he is from there.Magande will get some few support from UPND, PF and more support from MMD his parent party.

  31. from 41. Must not claim top slot prematurely. Its like as classmates, u r in a test, then you start uku ikopesha with yo friend who seemingly is not that good in everything as you are not too. However, there is a thin line didviding who is a bit better. Then your friend tries to get better results for number one position in class? Thats what HH is doing, copying from everyone in order to get to top slot. This is political hijack! I have more respect for Milupi who tries to proove his worth by throwing the towell in the ring even when he is confortably leading. The fact that its a pact, If HH was wise as you u say, he must have seen what you who r incapable to bring to change in zambia are seeing right now-but alas! he is one of us-unwise,undecisive,inferior and the list is endless.PEACE

  32. Sad, very sad indeed but out of everything, it is a fact to say the direction of Zambia is very unclear. Politics of hate, segregation and a lot more to mention, I wonder what the future holds for mother Zambia. HH and Michael Sata, why can’ t u meet as leaders and resolve the differences amicably ? The people of Zambia look up to u for redemption but why are u so quiet about the whole situation ? Some of those people within the two camps who seem to be supporting u are actually destroying u and your chances of winning a mandate to rule the country. Gentlemen, do u want this country to turn into another Zimbabwe in the few years to come ? Things are not goin on alright and we can’ t just sit and watch, never. Michael and HH, call me now, I am not myself and am very upset so to say.

  33. George@ 41selfishness was in both parties. the problem was for PF to think that UPND was there to help them to go to plot one just like that.much as sata has suffered to form PF, UPND suffered to form theirs too.HH was ready to work under Sata but recent events indicate what we have known sata all his life ‘untrustworthy and highly inconsistent’.u did not expect HH just to give your sata plot one freely.if Sata is meant to be a leader of Zambia, there is nothing i, UPND, MMD can do. the same applies for HH.

  34. This “Marriage”- UPND-PF pact was doomed the day the rings exchanged hands. VJ gave a synopsis of the previous pacts and stated categorically that it was not going to work, but those who were too optimistic about it laughed it off. We did not have to wait for VJ to be certain that it was not going to work. All we need is to read between the lines of statements from the people that have worked with Miceal Sata. Edith Nawakwi is on record to have issued a statement. Mr Sata is very quick to “call names” all those that have left his empire and are trying to say why they left. The message for HH is ” you can not teach an old colonial police constable new tricks” New wine in an old bottle???. Advice sign a pact with MMD and help to speed up the development of our country.

  35. Moono @44 i share your concerns the Zambian pipo deserve better, the PACT was the answer but unfortunately their leaders disappointed us all. time will judge them harshly. for some this was their only chance

  36. Mazoka and HH are two different people to say the least, and HH cannot pretend to take the leadeship style of Mazoka because it is not his. Every person takes his own leadership style according to the way they perceive things. HH believes in leadeship of inclusiveness and responsibility for people in the party. I know in zambia we believe in leadeship where one person decides and everyone follows and that is happening to pf and to some externt upnd of Mazoka. Mazoka use to fund and mobilise the party and others just use to ride on his back. He use to source funds from his friends e.g HH to fund the party when others were just in the wagon. Under HH’s leadership everyone has a role to play, and you have seen that all those who have been riding on the wagon have left the party.

  37. Whatever is happening at the moment cannot give our country a guaranteed direction. Look at the Mines and the mess which is goin on there. How much do our people get per month in comparison with the so called expatriates without clear qualifications ? When shall Zambia benefit out of its natural resources and wealth other than giving out all its wealth to foreigners ? Yes, those who have one feet in Zambia and the other in another country should speak against our cry but honestly, some of us have got only Zambia to claim as our home hence, the need and demand for our country to benefit from its resources. Zambians are paid peanuts in the Mines whilst foreigners got out with a lion’ s share, what is the so called government doing about it ? We want a working and listening government.

  38. To ne honest HH tried his level best to commit himself to the pact even after losing some of his vital members such as Chizyuka. The man believes in inclusiveness, even when the man went into the pact he new he was going to be the vice-president and not president and thats what frustrated Chizyuka so much. He never went there to become president in 2011, but to be deputy and share ministerial positions 50-50, and prove his capabilities as some doubted him. The main problem here is that Guy Scot and Wynter Kawimbe cannot accept HH because he is believed to be a threat in terms of presidence in case of Sata’s absence or demise. Pf thought they would swallow UPND, but the guys proved to be principled a lot and know what they want. They do not want intimidation by Wynter.

  39. …..”Hakainde Hichilema’s public insistence that he cannot win the 2011 elections if the UPND went it alone shows his political naïveté. HH’s insistence that he needs a Pact to dislodge the MMD from power is perhaps one single statement that seals his fate as a political neophyte”….
I , for one ,Only learnt about this public admission on L T. Maybe someone could enlighten me on what HH actually said . as he could have been quoted out of context.

  40. For me I do not take Sata’s noise making as Gospel truth because these were the guys who sold these mines and Sata was on top of decision making in MMD at that time. This man was number 3 in this MMD regime for God’s sake, and were the guys who sold the mines and other companies without any good policies to protect zambians from exploitation we are seing now. This man cannot claim to be my saviour today when am aware of his past actions. This man never believed in the constitution to protect citizens’ rights thats why he was pushing for Chiluba’s third term in office. If Sata was a true leader for zambians he could have resigned when Corruption was on top of the MMD regime, but he just did so when Chiluba could not appoint him as presidential candidate. I do not believe in this…

  41. Elias Munshya wa Munshya: In all your articles about the Pact you have always portrayed HH negatively and we did not expect anything different……HH went into this Pact in response to Zambians’ call for a united opposition to dislodge the corrupt and wasteful MMD govt. It was against this background that UPND decided to explore ways to work with PF and harmonise their manifestos and work out a joint political strategy. To characterise such a gallant, wise and selfless leader as opportunistic and naive is undoubtedly lack of understanding on the part part for what is good for the country and how Zambian politics works. You have exposed himself as an arm chair critic who just criticizes without offering alternatives.

  42. HH is not really a politician and is real as business is all about reality and not deceit. He was stating a fact that no opposition political party can cheat itself to say it can win single handedly to dislodge the MMD. You need a united force to dislodge a ruling party like we did in 1991 when we removed UNIP and thats a fact. In life realise a fact and act accordingly, and same applies in business you depend on trends to solve those factors affecting the trend.

  43. boi if u don’t have something to write on the paper it’s better you don’t write bcoz these ar totally rubbish.munshya wa munshya!!!!!

  44. Michael Chilufya Sata has been a Best Man at many weddings since the 1980s when he entered politics in Kabwata. I do not think that Sata entered this Pact to play second fiddle to an ‘under 5’ politician aptly called a ‘neophyte’ by Munshya here. It was very obvious from the beginning that the one person who would benefit from the pact was Sata and not HH. In chemistry, some reactions need a small chemical called a catalyst or enzyme to produce the desired product. The reaction can go on without the catalyst, but it will take longer, but the catalyst alone can never bring about the reaction. HH words that he cannot win alone, should have been spoken by Sata. HH cannot win AT ALL, whether alone or not!

  45. …cnt from 53:How did you expect HH to control his message going into the pact if the purpose of the pact was finding a way forward of uniting the oposition? In a democratic party is it possible to control what each and every member says? Has Sata managed to control what Scot, Chanda or Kabimba has been saying? Has RB managed to silence desenting voices within his party?
Can you give us evidence that suggests that HH compromised his pro-business principles, pro-constitution values and the democratic character of his UPND? Are you the only one who knows about the existance of a joint PF?UPND manifesto that diluted UPND values as you claim in your article.

  46. We can say HH has lost to day, but it us zambians who have lost because for him he can afford good medicals, good education for his kids and even three square meals per day. He invested in assets which just appreciates and will benefit even his great grand children. KK once told us that zambia will never have a good and fucused leader untill we stop this life of name tarnishing and settling on people who do not have substance in themselves. Mushya wa Mushya, you can write bad things about HH but the truth is that, it is us to judge who we want. Just write but it will never affect our judgement in anyway. We know it is a trend in SADC that old people would not want to give chance to young ones, but it is the same youths who they exploit to get somewhere in their leadership, Shame!

  47. #53 Zed Patriot
Zambians did not call for a ‘pact.’ Zambians want a united party not ‘gentlemen’s agreements. Zambians do not want power crazed individuals who are unwilling to forget their differences, dissolve their parties and create clear common manifestos for the sake of Zambia. We reject opportunism and lack of direction and vision. Just imagine what chaos there will be in 2012 if this fragile pact removed MMD from power! Who would form government and what would be the guiding principle or ideology? You cannot run the country on a wing and a prayer! One minute you will be against taxing the mines, the next inute you will be for. One minute you will be against prosecuting fraud, the next minute you will be for. Vascillation? No, that is not government!

  48. On your statement that quote “Hakainde Hichilema’s public insistence that he cannot win the 2011 elections if the UPND went it alone shows his political naïveté”. Do you really believe that with the tribal voting pattern in Zambian any of the existing political parties can dislodge the MMD from power? HH just stated a fact that every Zambian knows about and is the reason why Zambians have been calling for a united opposition. These were the same words uttered by Jean Kapata, Mandevu PF MP as quoted in yesterday’s Post newspaper. Elias Munshya wa Munshya from your ranting it is clear that you are an MMD sponsored gun whose aim is to kill off UPND. Now, get it from me(I am a very good political analyst) UPND will come out stronger in the coming elections.

  49. So far, the devil you know is better. In every democracy, the public tend to hold on to the stable leadership of the incumbent until they are sure that they are changing it for something better. We cannot just have change for change’s sake. Lazarous Tembo (RIP) used to sing about the man who let go of a bird in hand for a guinea fowl because of the lovely feathers. There is a saying to that effect: ‘A bird in hand is worth two in the tree.’ Perhaps it is right to say that the MMD is the bird in the hand and the two in the tree (PF and UPND) have not been tested. We will hold on to what we have until we are sure that we let go for something better. So far? Tesana!

What I said in #53 above is that..quote “HH went into this Pact in response to Zambians’ call for a united opposition to dislodge the corrupt and wasteful MMD govt.”

  51. In zambia there is a system where the most affected like the youths are taken advantage of the confortable ones. It is the youths who cannot afford Jobs, take their kids to school, access to good medical facilities and even three square meals per day for them and their children, but they are the most exploited to put some old chaps in comfort. RB, MC Sata, Chiluba etc can go for medical attention abroad on GRZ expense. When Sata had heart attack he went to South Africa for medical attention on Government expense, why didn’t he refuse when Mwanawasa offered him as he knows that they are the ones who destroyed UTH. Mazoka refused to be taken to south Africa on GRZ expense. Youths we need to wake up to this challangeof saying no when exploited while our fathers are in poverty in…

  52. There is no doubt that all these good men in the opposition can be President of Zambia. The trouble is that a lot of them have never really been scrutinised in their private and former lives. The media in Zambia fails to really scrutinise individuals thoroughly. All these politicians have backgrounds and there are numeruos witnesses to their characters. Why don’t we know anything about them? Ken Ngondo, Godfrey Miyanda, Edith Nawakwi, Rupiah Banda, Sakwiba Sikota, Ngandu Magande, Charles Milupi, Elias Chipimo Jr. Michael Sata, Ben Mwila, etc. Who are they? Newspaper profiles are like Grade 2 compositions. No collaborative testimony from people who know them. Please, expose these people to Zambians so that Zambians are informed appropriately to elect their leader!

  53. It will be nice for our journalists to take cameras into these guys’ homes, spend a week with them and see how they live. These persons MUST be known. We must know whether they are faithful to their spouses. We must know whether their children are disciplined. We must know whether they are frugal with private resources. Listen to their spouses talk about them. We need to know. We demand to know. Every person who seeks political office must be exposed so that there are no surprises down the road.

  54. #62 Zed Patriot
Granted. What I am saying is that HH and Sata did not do what Zambians want. Zambians want a new government but they do not want it from a ‘headless pact’ or a ‘two headed beast’.

  55. No wonder HIV infections will never be controlled in zambia because we have people with a mentality of not accepting the reality for fear that if they do it would mean they have to stop sleeping around with multiple partners. When you accept the reality you can make better decisions to control the situation for the better. Some people prefer to pretend that all is well when there is chaos around. #51 pretending all is well is the worste thing in life, because you cannot control deteriorating situation. If that the way you operate you better change for the better.

  56. Continued.
Can you imagine if we elected a wife beater into State House. One day our first lady comes to a meeting with a ‘Panda’ eyes!
Or our Head of State is blackmailed because of some dubious deals. Women are attracted to powerful men and if we have a s e x ually incontinent President there would be chaos in the corridors of government! Well, I can only say to fellow Zambians like the Knight says to Indiana Jones…’CHOOSE WISELY!’

  57. Iwe Munshya Wa Chakuti you are such a misdirected prophet of doom. You don’t understand politics but are making allusination from political history. By opening you mouth so wide you are exposing you ignoramous behaviour. Let the people vote, the pact may pull thu and it’s the only way out for Zambia right now. RB will go down in history as the worst president Z have ever had.

  58. Elias Mushya wa mushya talk about your friend Eddie Long who is accused of forcing two young men into sexual acts and relationships when they were members of his congregation.

  59. HH did not seek advice from his top advisers. If he did then it was lukewarm. This is beginning to haunt him. One of the issues that HH has now is that his top intellect team have started to question his judgement.

Fred M’membe is secretly funding Mangande in hope that he will snap up hitchhikers in the UPND Party. Though Mangende is aiming for 2011, he knows it’s too late to gain grounds, but rather positioning himself for 2016. Unless, Mangende, can accept another marriage proposal from Sata to form another Pact. That would be very shocking…

  60. If Mangende party picks up a number of MP’s, HH will find it difficult to keep his team intact, especially those from the south. There is s reason why Magande is bringing up The “Mwanawansa-Mangende” legacy. He wants show that he has been there and delivered as a Finance Minister, that said to that effect.

So, since the PF & UPND keep on squabbling & wrangle in the jungle, the nation will realise that these guys are not serious contenders, though MMD has a BAD DEFICIT called Chiluba. In other words, MMD is guilt by association.

This leaves MMD to carry on until 2016 – Sata is not going anywhere too. His dream is coming to and end. As for HH, he can still bounce back in 2016 if he is determined. But he has to show the best in him.

  61. We already knew that these businessmen would never make good politicians anyway. No surprises here. Guy Scott and Sata have been in government before, and did very little while there, what do they want now? I for one would not vote for these guys and Zambians should wake up and vote for an Independent Party, just forget the lot and go for an Independent candidate.
HH talks too much has no vision for ZambiaToday, as Zambians we are worse off than the people of Rwanda who had a terrible civil war. We have never had a civil war in Zambia, but we appear to act as if we have had several and cannot recover from it all. Our neighbouring countries are doing better. Let us wake up and use the copper money the country is getting and develop the infrustructure and repair our Healthcare system.

  62. Zambians, let us focus on this one and teach others what we know in politics. And guys Yes Zambians Can.

We can vote for the right person, we can learn to read the politicians language. Today Zambia stands at a very good economic growth in years, but still our leaders are not putting this money into development, but asking investors to come and develop our country. Where is the copper money going if it is not being pumped back into the system, into schools, Health sector, Housing and Agriculture? Who is benefitting from the billions the copper sells are bringing in? Poverty is still something we are associated with every now and again. Why are Zambian children paying for their education when their land produces copper and other gems? Give us FREE EDUCATION AND FREE HEALTHCARE we beg you

  63. When 2 corporate businesses merge, it is purely a business decision meant to preserve one of the 2 that would have gone into oblivion without the merger. And in the merger, it is always clear who the weaker is and they understand clearly their terms of engagement and stick to them. It is never a game of deceit. Now, in the case of UPND/PF pact, it is clear, based on hard statistics obtained from the past 3 elections, who the weaker of the 2 is. And going into this PACT should have helped the weaker to participate in governing and perhaps have a chance to prove to Zambians that they are beyond tribally aligned politics. But just as Chibamba Kanyama has clearly stated, Tongas have a complex problem!! They just can’t play smart politics!!

  64. MMD should not celebrate the disintegration of the pact. To the contrary, this is far from being an advantage for MMD. Simply put, PF will still retain its core voters while UPND, MMD, Magande and Milupi will badly split their votes. Magande will take away a huge chunk of votes from both the MMD and UPND. Now, in the past elections, we have all seen how Sata has nearly won the presidency with increasing closeness, while HH has increasingly been coming out a distant 3rd. We know how MMd has narrowly survived: North-Western and Western provinces. Now, MMD has completely lost it in these 2 provinces under RB. Western is now Milupi, while North-Western is HH, perhaps Magande too. It will be interesting to see events unfold. Lets watch this!!

  65. ” He was ready to compromise his pro-business principles, ”

Great. How is being pro-business a value? We need much less emphasis on the rights of foreign corporations.

” Hakainde Hichilema’s public insistence that he cannot win the 2011 elections if the UPND went it alone shows his political naïveté. Politics is a game of posturing. It never is a game of veracity and actuality. ”

That’s the criticism – he didn’t lie enough? That is not a ‘defeatist mentality’, it is called honesty and realism – one thing no one can accuse HH of not having. If anything, he has integrity. Which is why they should join the PF, and frankly take on board the PF’s more leftwing approach, which is the way the world is heading anyway.

  66. What is needed is a party that will win, and make money available for economic diversification. That means taxing the hell out of the mines.

*THIS IS THE ONLY WAY FOR ZAMBIA TO MOVE FORWARD.*

  67. Ma rubbish yama politics….If HH really believes he can lead this country then he must be able to believe in himself before any one does. Its a shame he cant even give hope to his own party members….worse of all us the people. Yackie.. Mazoko wherever you are resting;you were the best. YOU ARE SIMPLY IRREPLACEABLE!

  68. Who can advise HH? none, let his conscience haunt him for making wrong decisions. As a economic manager I wonder how he can make prudent decision for the country going by the pact squabbles which he has lamentably failed to resolve.

  69. On “If it is time for a southerner to lead their beloved country, Magande may be the man. At least, unlike one Hakainde Hichilema, he believes it” continue hallucinating because you will be shocked by how back Magande will get low votes or even nothing in the mighty Southern Province because Southerners believe in hard work not useless posturing. The same Magande you think can outdo HH in Southern Province and the rest of Zambia has feared to compete against the mighty UPND Team in Chilanga, and so how do you expect him to have a national constituency?

As for “Hakainde Hichilema’s public insistence that he cannot win the 2011 elections if the UPND went it alone shows his political naïveté,” HH did well and PF must be eaten from within not from outside.

    Matt…

  70. Mucwani Bo-Liyungu, please, HH needs your support and not bashing. Take care of your name and username when responding back to me, if you decide to.

On “The Pact has collapsed.[..] The winner in this break-up is unfortunately, Michael Sata and the loser of course is his counterpart Hakainde Hichilema” I feel pity for the writer of the article because even the PF vuvuzela, the POST Newspaper, has written in its editorials that the UPND is the onlyt party that has benefited from the PACT. To show you that Mr PF/serpentine SATA MC is the loser, just take note of how PF has suspended its National Youth Secretary Eric Chanda and how more PF cadres will be sacrificed because Sata needs a GRZ position in 2011 by clinging to HH and the mighty UPND Team.

    Be blest all.
    _
    Matt 6:33

  71. Serpentine (i.e., king cobra [for dull Mutinta who things I call Mr PF names]) Sata MC realised that his support did damage on his support base and rushed to Joy FM to correct his mistake of supporting Wynter Kabimba in the POST in a demeaning manner of the mighty UPND Team. Since thatdamage-control wasnt enough after the mighty UPND played poisoned pawn (in the game of chess) moves on PF, PF has decided to sacrifice Eric Chanda and I believe PF will have to sacrifice a lot more soon.

This can be seen from PF Mumbi Phiri’s ““I am speaking as Munali MP representing the people of Munali. I can assure you that the Pact is not going to break. Those in the Pact that think they can go and stand alone are joking,” who could have referred to PF’s Wynter Kabimba.
    _
    Matt…

  72. According to the PF vuvuzela in a story entitled UPND has not run out of options to win in 2011 – Mweetwa[PF Munali MP Mumbi] Phiri said she was hopeful that the Pact was going to hold and that only an insane person could think that either parties could go it alone.[..] “Let us keep praying am a woman of faith who believes in prayer and you know in a marriage they say a marriage that is criticised in the beginning comes out to be strong. I believe the UPND -PF Pact is going to stand until 2011 and that’s my prayer and I will not stop kneeling until this Pact works so that we can liberate this country…,” and hence I feel sorry for atheist PF appointed secretary general W. Kabimba.

From the above-quotes, MP M Phiri supported HH’s ‘I cant win alone’.
    _
    Matt…

  73. Therefore, no amount of propaganda from the MMD sponsored writers and blog-contributors will make HH unpopular since very few voters vote according to what the media tells them. Voters align themselves with what appeals to them most.

Thus “If HH continues with his naivety, the people of Southern Province may switch their allegiance from his UPND to NMP or worse still the MMD” was rightly put since if has an ‘if’ although NMP can not make an impact in the 2011 elections going by the history of Zambian politics. PF/Sata MC failed to make an impact in 2001 for Sata only got about 1-2% of the total votes where those who were there for a long time like Mazoka performed well. HH as new entrant equally failed to get good votes in 2006 because he was new then.

    Enjoy.

    Matt 6:33

  74. Maestro Hhehhehhehhe for 2011 would-b President of Zambia HH

Greetings. Keep on the good work.
Where did you get the news that PF has suspended its National Youth Secretary Eric Chanda?

  75. # 87 The Truth , Thanx for the response. I still think he was merely stating a fact which has been portrayed as having a defeatist attitude. He was being realistic and i wouldn’t interpret that as being defeatist. If he starts posturing and pretending otherwise, in order to satisfy critics in his party, then he’d be deluding himself and giving false hope. And that is not what one would expect of someone with good leadership qualities. I’m sure HH is more aware of how well the UPND is resourced to carry out a national election campaign than his critics are. So he knows the party’s limitation in terms of nationwide campaigning. Unless ofcourse there are other big financial backers of UPND who see things differently.

  76. #90 The Lord SITH

I agree with your comments. HH was simplying stating a fact that the opposition parties i.e UPND and PF can not dislodge MMD from power if they went into the next elections as individual parties. He gave examples of the election results of 2001, 2006 and 2008 which showed that the combined opposition results were more than what MMD got. Some opportunist jumped on his remark and twisted his message to claim that he meant that only UPND cannot win. The truth is that MMD will benefit from a divided opposition & this is what they had been praying for. You can never defeat a corrupt African ruling power by a low margin win, they will simply manipulate things and rig the results. In Zambia we have a very good example of the 2001 elections were FTJ deprived Mazoka of victory.

  79. I dont think Munshya has projected the correct reasons why PF/ UPND pact are experiencing problems.
Parties all over the world form coalition governments even when their manifestos are different.
From the out set PF and UPND never sat down to outline a common national vision and common strategies on how they will achieve the vision once in power. Vision is everything. That is why the bible says without a vision people perish. Even you have different characters, manifestos, goals, a vision bonds you, breeds commitment, partriotism, sacrifice, selflessness, discipline, respect etc. The second reason is the Post have been consistently projecting that PF is superior therefore entitled to the Pact presidency and this has lead to arrogance and lack of respect for HH.

  80. Munshya seem to show so much hatred for HH. Is it becoz HH is very sucessful in busness and life.
Is this guy Munshya frustrated with life? When poeple are growing old and dont seem to be achieving there goals they seem to be frustrated. Mr. Munshya just work hard and work smart you can make it. For me HH is the most ideal guy for Zambia and not Magande. HH has succeeded in his private life and he brings his success to public service. I dont think Maganda can snatch southern province from HH. Magande will just be another Sakwiba Sikota or Miyanda.

  81. Following HH’s infamous rebuke to his members, “Stop cheating me, HH tells UPND members”

Some MMD spin Doctors Senior Citizen and Veteran allover the blogs went into overdrive propaganda postulating HH as a very weak opportunist. The coordination in smearing propaganda became too intensive yet without countervailing voices from the pact. On and offline they damaged HH in a systematic way. They posted and posted in blogs and national papers ruthlessly.

  82. One wonders why they are too merciless on the pact. Its no secret Senior Citizen is a team leader of official MMD propaganda machine. His dedication and knowledge to propaganda confirms MMD has trained propaganda machines. Mushya Wa Mushya and South African based MMD Chief Bootlicker are part of the MMD propaganda machines with their juniors under training Capitalist, Saint and others. Its time we faced reality and started countering it with skills, 2011 race has kicked off.

This lack of self confidence and inferiority complex is not synonymous with credible leadership. It’s not the kind of what issue based democratic leadership is born of. Your insecurity is overbearing consequences. Besides it, you don’t have issues to articulate and sell yourself on to sober Zambian electorates. Winning politics in open democracies is realized on issues you articulate and not selling a menu of insults to self respected rational citizens as Zambians.

In this entire circus I only sympathize with selfless UPND members who founded the party and have since held on to the values late Mwanamubotu Kambela Anderson Mazoka that fallen Corporate executive icon and statesman inculcated in Zambians and indeed his establishment. Sadly in a blink of an eye visionless opportunist HH has gone loose trading it off every gain for a song.

He has wittingly allowed himself to be a mop rag of Mmembe and Sata. Mazoka must be turning in his Grave while asking himself what has befallen his former party and dream. HH, thus far you have lamentably failed not because Zambians cannot forgive your yesterday criminal acts but because all you have been dwelling on are tribal matters, insults, hatred, and crusading of anarchy even where you don’t have a constituency to trigger it on. For instance, when you say you will make Zambia ungovernable if independent electorates reject you for the third time, do you seriously expect Zambians to yield to your narcissistic crusade?

  88. Senior Citizen says:
    September 14, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Your greatest challenge remains that while this defunct Horse-Rider pact is busy insulting and dancing to the deluded hate crusade of those fanatical agents of imperialism at the tabloid, the incumbent party is tenaciously delivering multi billion kwacha capital projects around the country. In your delusions you think these are nothing to Zambians but your menu of insults matter to voters. To this you believe the hyperventilation of some embattled tabloid online and their prohibitively expensive cosmopolitan circulations is a game changer in a national constituency. You have failed big politically.

Daily you insult chiefs, demean the ila people for their culture of respect and love, demean and oppose the completion of Namwala-Choma road, completed billion kwacha Chongwe District hospital, The under construction M8 Mutanda-Chavuma, Chipata-Mfuwe Road, Mongu-Kalabo-Angola Road, Schools, completed hospitals and bridges coming up both, Mchinji-Nkala-Malawi railway to mention but a few.

He has no constitutional caveat to insulate him from a reactionary membership. Legitimate members of Mazoka’s party have a moral right to find a true selfless people’s leader and then defrocking HH.

“The problem we have in this nation is that many people live on illusions created for them by the PF.

Domestic issues should be handled behind closed doors & the back stabbing we have recently seen expose the weakness of this alliance. Sata is a traitor & in my opinion is the main culprit behind these shananigans 2 destroy HH. HH made a deal w/a snake. The PACT is effectively over & tribal ignorant PF or UPND stand no chance. On PF appointed vice-leader Guy Scott’s ““Hakainde wants the presidency that eluded him in 2006 and 2008 by a large margin… his [UPND elected-president HH’s] kitchen cabinet wants more power in the forthcoming pact government [of the republic of Zambia Administration, if PACT wins in 2011..]. We [,as PF,] are really fighting about who is going to run the pact government within the Pact [before the 2011 elections]”” reported by the PF vuvuzela, I urge the PACT to quickly announce that PF’s Sata MC will be the PF-UPND president while UPND’s HH be 2011 PACT presidential candidate, so Sata can command PF kaponya cadres to vote for HH as Zambia President in 2011.

    Be blest.

  107. what is it that u zambians want .i have spent some times reading your post .no one has written about the desparate state the zambian people find themselves in .none.the poverty is so painfully visible .and here we are talking about Joe Kalusa who has never had a gainfull job in his life .oh shame to you all.
    know what you want FIRST

  108. Let reason prevail in these PF/UPND pact problems. There is still hope for resustation of this fragil pact if only, the two leaders can sit and iron out matters that matter most. Its never too late.Actually there are more serious problems in mmd than the pact. The only reason why we can’t hear of them is fear of intimidation if one spoke out. There is a time bomb in the ruling mmd awaiting to explode any time just wait and see. Not all is well as perceived by their spokesman.

  109. Let me be frank with the patern of Zambian politics and the fact that most of u bloggers are not being honest in your writings. There is just too much rubbish being smeared against Hakainde, Michael and the other leaders in the opposition. The truth of the matter is that whatever comments we may be passing on against the guys are not based on truth but hatred through tribe lines. As long as one is not your tribemate you cannot stand up and support him, that is the danger we have as a country. From my own observation, quite a lot have been talked against HH and Michael Sata even in areas where the blames are unjustifiable, especially HH. The point I would like to give is the future of this country depends on us how long sited we are in managing our affairs.

  110. Syakalima was also quoted as having said that PF could no longer bank on its past glory because the “political pendulum is emotional and unpredictable.”

This is the most important message that must sink into Sata, Guy Scott and Kabimba’s heads. As long as they understand this there will be hope for the Pact. Deception, elusiveness, arrogancy and artificial pride won’t take them anywhere.

  111. To Guy Scott(response to your Post article):

On your comment that “Hakainde wants the presidency that eluded him in 2006 and 2008 by a large margin…”. This is true for Sata as well. Sata is even more desperate because the presidency eluded him in 2001, 2006 and 2008. Time is running out for him & he is worried that if he misses it this time 2016 is out of the equation because of his age poor health.

  112. I can foresee a situation where one day each province shall decide to become a separate state and run its own affairs. Therefore, instead of having these numerous political parties some of which don’ t even have the strength to win the race to plot 1, why can’ t we adopt a system of rotation of power particularly at head of state level. What I am trying to say is for instance, we have Bwezani an Easterner this time around, next time, someone from Central, the other someone from Western and so on and so forth until the rotation is complete. I am sure all this nonsense can go because what is hindering us this time is basing everything we do on tribe lines. As for me whether i am Lozi, Kaonde or whatever, my only pride is that I am Zambian and all Zambians are my brothers and sisters.

  113. To Guy Scott(response to your Post article):

On your comment that: “I don’t believe that the PF has grown very much in terms of popularity since 2008 and I don’t believe the UPND has also grown much since 2008. But the combined strength of both parties is probably good enough to beat MMD…,”
In this statement you have echoed what HH said when he advised UPND members that on their own they can not defeat MMD just as PF can not defeat MMD on their own. You are being untruthful when you say you don’t believe UPND has not grown much since 2008. Political Indicators show that UPND has been expanding. Even in Luena UPND managed to increase there vote share compared tp previous results. Another thing that needs to sink into your head is that the 2008 elections were a contest…

  114. To Guy Scott(response to your Post article):
Another thing that needs to sink into your head is that the 2008 election was a contest between Sata and RB. HH was just there to keep his name on the ballot box and keep the momentum for 2011. This is what we advised him to do.The message that you spread to voters in 2008 was for them not to waste their vote on HH since he did not have enough MPs to form govt. Voters listened and depending on their preferences either voted for RB or Sata. Only hardcore HH supporters opted to vote for him. Others, especially most would be HH supporters, opted to stay away than waste their vote on RB or Sata. You can confirm this trend by analysing presidential election results for 2006 & 2008.

  115. UPND should be carefull with pf. I hope after helping pf to win elections(plot one job) they will not ban upnd and start contesting seats as pf only. I think the best is to divorce this marriege. These pf guys are not predictable anymore in their dealings. Scot is worried of loosing his post as vice-president if HH takes that post.

  116. 125# Maestro, Counsin twalumba tulika botu.We are not bashing our Musankwa HH we just feel pain to see how the soup is being spoiled by failing to make a quick decision on the party of our leaders in UPND. See how Guy Scot is putting in the Post of today. We are just pretending that the pact will work when in fact on the ground the feelings of both PF and UPND are contrary. Delayed decision will cost us heavily we need to make another move. Keep well we shall keep talking until our voice is heard.

  117. I only wish we could be more liberal and apt about this whole issue,we all want and need change , be it in a better and more focused way or not. One thing for sure we all need a complete crop of new leaders wether they be the ages of bena SATA or abena HH, what we all need is a complete humour and smell of freshness.I for one am tired of any character who claims to advance his selfish unbilistic appetite to rule again.Nyama soya is finished we are tired of it.
After all paradise does not come from without it calls for each and every ones support to leave a count and be heard, am urging all the brothers and sisters within the diaspora to think of tommorrow and not today, I surely do know that many of them are MMD, but i would tell them to hearken up cause MMD is about to die very soon.

  118. @#126 FUMBI, which joe kalusa are you talking about who has never had a gainful job? if you talking of the upnd guy the must just be another jelous yob because joe kalusa of upnd is a manager for lukanga water and sewerage, kapiri mposhi district.he can even employ your father

  119. The demise of the PACT leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Looking at the life of the PACT thru Dr. Guy Scott’s and Mr. Wynter Kabimba’s lenses there is too much deceit and manupilation on the part of PF. The PACT should have sat and exhausted all issues pertaining to leadership, MPs and sharing of government portfolios before coming out to excite their followeres with the birth of the PACT. There is no blue print of where the PACT wants to move Zambia to. MMD is campaigning but the PACT is busy squabbling. Imagine, God forbid, they get into power they will spend time bickering. Please go separate ways for the PACT is dead and buried

  120. People like senior citizen cant earn a living without relaying on tax payers. Will do anything make sure MMD remains in power. Shame on you. Know that there is pride in earning a living thru working hard.

  121. Munshya you are useless MMD lackey. You know why MMD has failed to deliver? It is because people went into it without questions. The PACT will be strong because the players are not just accepting things without questioning.

  122. Does anyone know what happened to the MMD vuvuzela Zambia Watchdong site? Thhey thought they can write libelous material and hide in the anonymity of the internet. Well, they are learning the hard way now!!

  123. The trouble in Zambia today is any a@*hole who went past sub-A thinks they can write and therefore they are “journalists” – Like the author of the piece of crap above!!

  124. 136 Village Concept thanks and you are welcome. On your “We are just pretending that the pact will work when in fact on the ground the feelings of both PF and UPND are contrary,” the issue is PF have to leave UPND in a PACT with Zambians not nothing else.

What MMD and other parties need to know is that HH is not a flip-flop like serpentine Sata MC and HH’s stance on not needing to form an alliance with MMD is final because HH’s aim is to remove MMD from power.

However, MMD are welcome to sponsor HH as its joint 2011 presidential candidate against PF since the mighty UPND will have to go it alone against PF and MMD in the 2011 elections if PF does not agree to use democratic means of selecting a 2011 PF-UPND PACT presidential candidate.

    Have a blessed day all…

  125. @143-144 – you cracked my ribs with your name! Despite your status (ukwenda bwamba) you talk sense. What the cardres are blogging here is not want is on the ground in the districts, trust me, I did a survey in the last 2months.

  126. HH, listen to this advise Pa zed we are used to suffering. Just concentrate on growing your estate.(Manda Hill, ……etc.) Zambians fear successful popo and they always want to to bring them down.HH you could be the best president for Zambia but as zambias we are lazy and enjoy short-cuts. Pull out of the Pact and see if SATA’s PF can prove his popularity. The guys have lost in 5 of 6 the most recent by elections in Northen Province. So what popularity they talking about.
Lastly, the biggest weakness HH you have is that you don’t learn. Try to camp in Northern, Copperbelt, Luapula and north parts of central province and learn how to speak Bemba, Bisa, Ushi and Kampoya’s language.

  127. What a load of crap. HH have shown maturity by being realistic of his chances of winning elections alone. That would also be a waste of campaign money and time.
