FLASHBACK: President Rupiah Banda greets Mathews Mtonga, a Zambian student in Ethiopia after a dinner at the Ambassador’s residence in Ethiopia when he visited that country

Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia Albert Muchanga has commended Zambians living in Ethiopia for their readiness to participate in the Diaspora seminar.

Speaking during the Association of Zambians in Ethiopia (AZE) general meeting in Addis Ababa yesterday, Mr. Muchanga said that it was gratifying to see Zambians in Ethiopia unite with the Zambian Embassy to strategize how to effectively participate in the development of the country.

Mr. Muchanga said that Zambians working abroad should not be referred to as brain drain but brain gain because of their intellectual and monetary resource can contribute to national development.

He said he was hopeful that the seminar will enlighten Zambians living in Ethiopia on opportunities available for investment in Zambia.

The AZE members in collaboration with the Zambian Embassy agreed to hold a seminar in Addis Ababa before the end of the year where Zambian some experts in finance, trade and investment are expected to come and make presentations that will focus on encouraging Zambians living in Ethiopia to invest in Zambia.

And AZE Chairperson Cosmas Chanda commended the Zambians in Ethiopia for exhibiting a strong team spirit in strategizing how to contribute to their country’s development.

Mr. Chanda said Zambians working abroad were looking forward to a Diaspora policy that would provide an enabling environment for them to invest heavily back home.

This is contained in release to ZANIS from the Zambian Embassy, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia signed by the First Secretary – Press Dorcas Chileshe.

  1. Nice piece of shi*t. Who in his right mind would trust this government of freaky jealousy thieves. All they want is to identify Zambians in the diaspora with financial muscle and then ID their political affiliations. If you’re affiliated with their pathetic MMD, they will force you to donate to their party so they can fund their militias. If you’re affiliated with the opposition, then they will sabotage your investments and you will loose all your hard earned capital in the most miserable way. I would advise all diaspora Zambians to keep their fortunes close to their chest and wait until this government of shameless, corrupt and brainless buffoons is out or else you will loose big!!

  2. You can just hear them salivating and rubbing their hands on the idea of Monetary resources from the diaspora. The only zambians that love these meetings abroad are the ones trying to lwisha a post or become future boot lickers of the govt. Franlkly If I had some savings to invest back home the last place or person I would want to touch that money is the Govt. or t’s officials. If they cannot run the country or givt institutions back home in Zambia what gives them the confidence to think they can put their hands in our pockets

  3. alaa, umwina zed alifika napa Ethiopia? runing away from the poverty. You mean zambians from ethiopia can bring wealth to mother zed? since when? ninshi zed naipwa, ishelefye amafupa?

  4. Great move. I would like to commend the Zambians in Ethiopia for this bold move. They have proved to actually care for the nation and are willing to make a contribution. They have also shown that they are willing to work with the govt of the day to make the life of Zambians better as well as make a contribution to the economy however small.

This is what is needed from Zambians in the Diaspora who have gained a new set of skills and exposure. Only Zambians will deliver Zambia out of poverty but if Zambians in Diaspora are not interested in investing in the nation, might as well use foreign investors since they seem more interested and have seen the investment opportunities that lie in the nation.

I say good job Zambians in Ethiopia.

  5. Ethiopia is a war-torn and dilapidated nation. So, those poor Zambian souls in Ethiopia have no alternative and are trapped between a concrete wall (Ethiopia) and a sea full of blood-thirsty sharks (RB and his Zambia). And what skill sets can one acquire in Ethiopia anyway? Good luck with your investments you Zambian-Ethiopian diaspora!

  6. Bravo Zambians in Ethiopia. Remember that song by Nashil Pichen Kazembe ” A Phiri Anabwera ku choka ku Harare”. Invest back home so you dont arrive as Mr Phiri did. You dont have to be a govt boot licker to invest in your own country. It is the right for anyone to do. Zambians in America are right behind you and will soon make an announcement. It is time to unite for a common purpose to empower ourselves and provide capital to Zambia. If you cant do it who is going to do it for you.

  7. Hehehehehehahahaha!!! desperation at work, bwezani should concentrate on the citizenry in the country. Create jobs and job security within Zambia. Is that why he is always travelling out of the country? The chap has a fulish appetite for diaspora, let him emigrate instead of coming up with useless ideas. Investing in my country will be done at my own pace and wish, I dont need stu.pid advice from meerkats.
