Zambia’s participation at the nineteenth Commonwealth Games has finally come to a disappointing end after bowler Hilda Luipa failed to qualify to the semi-finals.
This followed two losses at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
This is according to a statement released to ZNBC by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian High Commission in India, Bwalya Nondo.
Luipa was the only Zambian left in the Games after the rest of the 21-member contingent fell out in preliminary rounds in all sporting disciplines.
Luipa lost her first game 2-0 to Australia’s Kelsey Cottrell in an early morning contest.
The Zambian bowler was down 10-0 after four ends and although she recovered to pick four points in the last five ends, the Australian picked just as many to win the set 14-4.

Oh well , better luck next time . Olympics are next . And they are even more competitive. Much tougher :-)
Thanks for giving it your best. We now just have to dust our shoulders off, assess what we did wrong and adopt a new strategy to fill those holes.
I have faith in you Zambia.
THIS NEWS & TITLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED THREE WEEKS BEFORE “OUR” OVER-RATED ATHELTEES LEFT FOR INDIA, BECAUSE WE ALL KNEW THEY WERE TO COME OUT EMPTY HANDED. I MENTIONED SO, THAT TIME EVERY COUNTRY WAS CAUTIONS TO JET INTO INDIA DUE TO FEARS OF HEALTH & SECURITY, OUR ATHLETEES RUSHED TO GET INTO INDIA EVEN WHEN THEY HAD NO HOPE OF REAPING MEDALS FROM A SIMPLE COMPETITION THAT IS LESS THAN THE OLYMPICS. ATASE!!!
# 1. It is not about Luck. it is about skill, fitness, self discipline, good training facilities, etc…..
Please dont talk about facilities,if you are not skilled you cant perform even with the best facilities. What facilities are in Jamaica,Kenya,Ethopia,Uganda?
These characters are not just competitive enough,i think the whole country is just not competitive, just a bunch of corrupt loud mouths.
# 4 I agree with you. The so-called sportsmen performance is a reflection of how we manage sportsin Zambia. The belief that success is a matter of luck will lead these sportsmen nowhere!
Were we really expecting any medals? Sportsmanship starts with very young children and builds up through years of training. Go around the government and private schools and notice how sports facilities are either not there or in bad condition. How much to the schools (both private and government) provide for in the budgets for sports activities. Our schools seem to think two weeks of ‘staying’ before the inter house running, sack race and egg race sufficiently takes care of the sports section of the children’s curriculum! As parents we not any better ourselves either, we would rather watch Africa Magic not sports, drop our children off at Arcades rather than at a sports event. It’s great to show our face at the games, but come on, did we really expect medals?
# 4 NAPAPA SANA……., I see where u r coming from.
# 7 From the Terrace ….. Haha! Looks like at our level , we do need some luck as well !
Facilities my foot.Yeah,if you can’t play cricket you blame it on your cricket bat. What is zambia good at even in africa?
