The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has observed that though the bumper harvest the country has recorded has brought excitement to the government, it has brought its own challenges to the farmers.
CSPR Executive Director Patrick Mucheleka said it is disturbing to see farmers countrywide still not paid for the maize they supplied to the Food Reserve Agency.
Mr. Mucheleka wondered how poverty levels in the country could be reduced if the farmers do not get the benefits of their hard work.
He added that it is important that farmers are paid for their hard work to make the bumper harvest meaningful.
Speaking to QFM in an interview, Mr. Mucheleka further stated that government should have planned well for the bumper harvest to record total success.

Up to now lam still waiting to be paid for my crops. If lam not paid it means that I will not do farming this year because the time to buy inputs is gone. All the time politicians are singing that money has been released but in reality there is nothing.
1. The govt has accepted that the bumper harvest was “unprecedented”. Unprecedented means NOT HAVING HAD PREVIOUS EXAMPLE OR EXPERIENCE. The govt will learn now!
2. There’s no way ALL farmers can be paid all money in one shot country-wide. Get real. It’s not an ideal society. Again refer to “unprecedented”
I don’t know why we should have crap all the time just in the name of opposition!!
#2 that’s right, seems we have to live with this crap masquarading as opposition parties/NGOs.
The other day I stated that for a change can we have opposition leaders do something positive for the country, like lobbying the donors for assistance to protect this harvest instead of discussing gay rights. This is food for the people of this country, the same people that they aspire to rule.
