Share

Police in Kitwe have arrested a twenty-year old mother who threw her own biological daughter in the Kafue River where the infant died.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Martin Malama has confirmed the arrest of the woman to ZNBC News tuesday and named her as Mary Mbewe.

Dr. Malama said the woman was arrested after her grandmother reported the matter to the police around 0300 hours Tuesday morning.

He said police officers with the help of members of the community managed to retrieve the body of the infant from the river.

Dr. Malama said the body of the eleven-month old girl is in Kitwe Central Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.

  1. Very sad news indeed. Maybe she has been suffering from post-natal depression since the child was born. I bet someone will blame RB for this as per usual.

  2. SAD NEWS,ANOTHER YOUNG LIFE LOST.THE MOTHER WAS VERY CRUEL TO DROWN HER OWN BABY IN A.RIVER ,I THINK SHE NEEDS REAL HELP AS SHE COULD BE A CONFUSED PERSON.MAY THE BABY RIP IN HEAVEN.

  3. There are a lot of troubled people indeed, 11 months baby and relatives did not see where the mother was heading to, even if it is postpartum, the mother belongs in a mental institution, someone knew what was going on, but they couldn’t be bothered. The poor child, maybe would have grown up to make meaningful contribution to our county. All the same, this is waste of human race which we desperately need.

  4. vaku nyenga, ina nona, and then u take it out on a baby! efinishi ifi? i bet she was circumcised! i am totally against circumcised people, they are a danger to society! if vj rigger comments on my blog then chaba wiso!

  5. The child could have been a reminder of her rapist, no mother in her right mind would kill her child from a loving relationship, where was the dad of that kid, either she got pregnant by accident, or raped!! Which makes the baby “unwanted” the very second she is concieved.

  6. There can never be any justification for taking an inocent babys life be it rape or whatever. she should have aborted kanshi lilya line not after 11 months, cage the harlot period.

  7. too many men running away from parental responsibilities. Young girls become overwhelmed and act irrational. Its a shame.

  8. ,,,,,,,,,,,,and when young fail to abort the unwanted pregnancies, the children are raised by very bitter young mums, who mistreat their kids miserably, the kids probably suffer more alive……….

  9. ,,,,,,,,,,,,and when young women fail to abort the unwanted pregnancies, the children are raised by very bitter young mums, who mistreat their kids miserably, the kids probably suffer more alive……….

  10. I wonder wat the reason could be coz I dont think she has forgotten that labor pains already 11 months is too soon.shame on her! now she will face it the hard way with the guilty of killing for the rest of her life!!

  11. Surely why kill an innocent soul?Whatever the reason this child should have een given up for adoption atleast.I personally cannot justify this act of brutality. Its a shame that some people can even politicise this like this Chomba malaila guy.Guys grow up.Am sure you are working and inteligent,so grow up Chomba boyi.

  12. Zambia has a long way to go regards mental illness….it’s such a stigma…..bane, depression is REAL, real women from all walks of life suffer post-natal depression, it’s a real and sad condition. I remember a woman here who drowned 4 of her children in a bath tub…don’t be so quick to condem, lets help women who are at risk as anyone, rich or poor can suffer. Our post-natal services have a lot of catchng up to do. Unfortunatley our health service is so crippled and our public health/ midwife nurses are not fully trained to deal with the mother’s emotional health after birth. Let’s hope a new govt can upgrade things. I feel sorry for the whole family and the poor baby. MHSRIP, and may the mother find the peace she needs.

  13. #16 – Blogger girl, you are right, Zambia has a long way to go in terms of detecting mental illness and depression. To most Zambian mental illness is picking rubbish from the bins or gabbage dumps. We have a long way in knowing the types of mental illnesses. God help us!

  14. @ 11 you are right our men in Zambia are becoming more and more irresponsible they think they can run away from the duty of fatherhood. its like a woman should carry and take care of the child alone while the man goes to play with other women.

  15. Ladies!Ladies!children are a blessing no matter what happens between you and the father of the child nor anything that would make you think of getting rid of the child.

  16. I have read so many articles or reviews on the topic of the blogger lovers except this
piece of writing is actually a fastidious post, keep
    it up.
