A new type of diesel called low sulphur has been introduced on the Zambian market.
Energy Minister Kenneth Konga said government allowed the importation of the new type of diesel as a way of building up stocks in the country.
Mr. Konga says the low sulphur diesel is advanced and friendly to modern equipment.
He was responding to a question from Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament Godfrey Beene during the question for oral answer session in Parliament Friday.
Mr Beene wanted government to explain the presence of the low sulphur diesel on the Zambian market.
Mr Konga explained that government prefers the low sulphur diesel and will soon put up equipment at Indeni Refinery in Ndola to process the fuel.

Better put up our equipment at indeni bane than relying on that imported stuff.Good move tho.
This so called Low Sulphur fuel is more expensive than the Diesel we use (K7,500 as opposed to K6,999). Come one the Oil marketing Companies and particulary Total Zambia are doing that to increase revenue in the wake of uniform pricing. And don’t tell me about the global warming crap because Zambia contributes less than 0.0005%.
GOVERNMENT OF THE THIEVES, BY THE THIEVES, AND FOR THE THIEVES
Its difficult to trust these politicians. Why have they all of a sudden opted for another new type of diesel? Is there something wrong with the old type? Is the new type cheaper for the Zambian consumer? What advantages does this new type have over the old type? I would like the Minister of Energy to answer some of important questions. I hope it is not another dirty project to benefit the politicians.
You mean my homecountry is only getting low sulphur diesel now? We have had that diesel in SA the past ten years!
