The Road Transport and Safety Agency-RTSA has introduced a new driver’s license.
The new licence has improved security features.
The Agency has also bought a card printing machine.
The machine, which has been bought at US 5.3million dollars has the capacity to produce 7 hundred cards in an hour.
RTSA Board Chairperson Wilson Mwandila said the security features on the new license will reduce chances of forgery and fading of details.
Mr. Mwandila said this during the official launch of the licence and the card printing machine in Lusaka.
Communications and Transport Deputy Minister Mubika Mubika said motorists using the current licenses are not required to get new ones immediately.

And when are the passports changing again ???
So Zambian drivers have to pay cash again? no wonder why people are stealing in that country !
I don`t think this will change anything.People will still continue getting their driving licences without having had an experience of sitting on the drive seat.
The only aspect linked to any new thing in Zambia is increase in the cost. Am sure he didn’t deliberately talk about the Increase in cost of getting the new drivers license.
Give me a break! The minister made it clear in his statement that holders of current licenses will continue to use the old ones until they are due for renewal. The agency is trying to make the document/card more secure than the current one. They should be commended for this inste
Give me a break! The minister made it clear in his statement that holders of current licenses will continue to use the old ones until they are due for renewal. The agency is trying to make the document/card more secure than the current one. They should be commended for this instead of being ridiculed. Our passports a few years ago were insecure and Zambians traveling abroad were subjected to further scrutiny because no one knew whether they were looking at a genuine document or not.
There is nothing to commend them for that new machine will just bring drama there, some people will be locked up some in that ministry!
US$5.3m for a card printing machine???
Zambia, the land of fearless cons.
#1 kc, Oh please don’t mention change of passports, it sends jitters and numbness to many of us after what we endured over the past 18 to 24 months trying to obtain the new passports.
#7 & 8, I agree with your views entirely.
There is no need in buying an expensive printing machine and changing the driving licences without re-organising the Road Traffic Departments.
The corruption in these departments is unbelievable and the policemen who work at the test centres are multi-millionaires. In Zambia, one does not need to go for a driving test to obtain a licence as all that is required is to pay those morons and the licence would be delivered to one’s home. As if that is not enough, those muppets are very unprofessional (typical of Zambia Police) and ask for money for “lunch” with no shame.
I visited the Kitwe driving test centre which has dirty floors and walls, whilst the outside surrounding areas looks like an abandoned place. There is no order as corruption is the order of the day.
I commend the purchasing of the new printing machine. The length of time one has to wait just to get the card is infuriating, anything to make the process faster I commend.
As for the new licence, if it’ll enhance security features, it is something I commend. Anything to make our roads safer.

GOVERNMENT OF THE THIEVES, BY THE THIEVES, AND FOR THE THIEVES
Theoretically the machine could print all the licenses in Zambia in less than a week and sit idle for the rest of the year. I could have got them a machine that prints 50 cards per hour for $399.99 . Indeed shit_happens.
THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM. ITS A MONEY MAKING POLCY AND THOSE IN AUTHORITY MAKES A FAST BUCK.IN MOST COUNTRIES DRIVING LICENCE IS MEANT FOR LIFE AND IN EUROPE ITS UP TO 70 YEARS OF AGE AND THERE IS NO RENEWAL IN BETTWEEN.ZAMBIANS ARE BEING TAKIEN FOR A RIDE.NEXT THEY WILL BRING REGISTRATION CARDS.K.K.DAYS WERE BETTER BUT WE DID NOT APPRICIATE HIM,.
Mr Mwandila, how dare you launch the printing machine? this is RB’s job.
pipo seriously can a printing machine cost that much? I wonder how much the printing material costs,20 million dollars maybe? I wonder how much a 330 kilo-volt transformer can cost in Zambia,my guess would be 100 million dollars. It is surprising to note that there is wide spread hunger in the country but we can afford to buy such machines, imagine what that kind of money can do for company’s like NCZ in Kafue.Misplaced priorities i guess.
ba kolwe ni mpupu sana..
its the same old story. Zambians should wake up. how many times do we need to change those silly documents? Nrc, Passports, Bluebooks, Driving Licenses are changed at will . No wonder Zed is rapidly turning into a Banana Republic.I hope they have bought a printing machine which will serviced easily. The last printer that was bought a few years ago is rotting somewhere in Lusaka .What country can fail to print simple things like Road Tax Discs. I.D.I.O.T.S. stop stealing our cash
new passports, new drivers licences, new licence plates, everything new! The biggest scandal ever was the new passport office which we were told about, which has never opened.
this is too much..why should you keep on inconveniencing us..?
they are even proud mentioning the cost of the machine, waiting time will never be reduced,
they”ll still ask for the tips
NRC nowadays is the waste (Ndola) dept should be investigated they work on tips
No wonder why our licence expires after some time. These machines must be used otherwise the purpose of purchasing them may be defeated.
Another money spinning venture. Why not change NRC’s, all school certificates, money, charge more taxes, and charge us for walking on the streets and use that money for more trips for uRupiah.
Ya right, new drivers license ka, anyway my brother will be using mine so no big deal
Didn’t we just see UTH WATER LOGGED CORRIDORS? Misplaced priorities.Am very certain a contractors bill would have been lessthan 1% of this shit machine-they have stolen again while we watching
