MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya has said there are some Patriotic Front (PF) and UPND members of Parliament who want to work with the ruling party but stressed that MMD can win elections without forming alliances.
But UPND Members of Parliament (MPs) yesterday denied reports that they were courting the ruling party with a view of forming an alliance ahead of the 2011 general elections.
At a Press briefing at her office, Ms Siliya told journalists that there were some opposition MPs who had appreciated the good leadership of the MMD.
“I am aware that there are some PF and UPND MPs who are talking to us silently,” Ms Siliya, who is Education Minister said.
She said the MMD welcomed any MP or person who wanted to work with it in developing the country.
She said it was good to appreciate good leadership but the minister noted that the biggest pact the MMD had was with the people of Zambia.
The MMD had in the past managed to win elections alone because all it did was to sell its manifesto to the people.
The minister said as a ruling party, MMD had other parties supporting it during elections, as it was the case in the 2008 presidential elections.
And addressing journalists in Lusaka on behalf of others, Kalomo MP Request Muntanga dismissed the story carried by The Post of November 23, 2010 saying it was baseless.
Mr Muntanga alleged that the story was meant to divide the pact and that it was such writings that were even fueling the existing troubles in the PF-UPND alliance.
The statement was signed by 20 of the 24 UPND MPs.
Mazabuka MP Garry Nkombo also dismissed claims by Parliamentary Chief Whip Vernon Mwaanga over overtures by the UPND to form an alliance with the MMD.
He challenged Mr Mwaanga to name the MPs that were allegedly meeting the ruling party with the motive of forming an alliance instead of just speaking from nowhere.
Mapatizya MP Ackson Sejani said in every party there were disgruntled people and as such it would not make sense to talk to people on the street and allege the UPND was courting the MMD.
Sinazongwe MP Raphael Muyanda said the pact was there to stay and no amount of divide and rule tactics by the media would break it.
Others that dismissed the claims were MPs for Mbabala, Emmanuel Hachipuka, David Matongo for Pemba and Godfrey Beene for Itezhi-Tezhi.

MMD, awe balasekesha. ati “some PF and UPND MPs … are talking to us silently”
Who in the right mind would believe that it is possible for a person to talk silently and be heard??
Dreamers
Being in opposition does not mean that one is an enemy of the government. But what makes the situation difficulty here in Zambia is that those in government have developed a Mr. know it all attitude. The other thing is for the MMD anyone not in their camp is an enemy of the nation. Also the MMD spends colossal sums of money and time trying to destroy the opposition. But this is not the essence of democracy. It is like a game of soccer, you do not just play to win, but also for enjoyment. After the game the losers and winners shake hands. Not in Zambian politics. If MMD fishes one member from the opposition, the whole MMD will stand up to tease the losing party which in turns aggravates the acrimony in the country
Malupenga declared Mwamba as the enemy of the Post.Alas,in the same vein,UPND has declared them as enemy number one(like the US and Bin Laden).Eish!! This definitely makes it a PF Post.Truth is MPs opposed to the Pact now see that the Pact is neither here nor there hence softening their stance cos they now know UPND will stand as it is and NOT as Pact.
The four UPND MP’s that did not append their names are the 4 Rebel Mp’s in UPND that are talking to the MMD. The chief reason is that UPND wont adapt them in 2011. They are fighting for survival. In PF thr MMD is talking to the rebel expelled Mp’s from Luapula. The lot that Chiluba pushed for PF to adapt. PF made a grave mistake to have listened to FTJ that time. a mistake never to be repeated.
I never thought I would ever quote the PF magazine vuvuzela but today they had an interesting story. I will quote some snippets of the interesting things I read in the vuvuzela.
“I can assure you that the next time we see you, we will burn you alive,” said one of the cadres amidst insults. “We are not like these people you are fond of meeting. We don’t take nonsense and we can kill for HH. We will kill you if you are playing with us. We will stab you with knives. You think we are happy with what you write about our president.
““Try us and you will see. Even now we can do that because you are in our territory. You just want to be writing good things about Sata and not our president. We will start beating you like we used to do during the days of Mazoka.””
All those quotes from the vuvuzela. Last time I pointed out how violent the UPND is when Mr. Hichilema took his band of thugs to go an disturb the MMD during the filing of nomination for the Chilanga by-election and some PF cadres descended upon me calling me names and lashing insults my way. One PF cadre, Deja vu in particular even insulted me and my whole family by calling me a dog.
Now you have read for yourself in your vuvuzela how violent your pact partners are.
Kim Kardashian of Zambian politics “I am aware that there are some PF and UPND MPs who are talking to us silently,
The Rebel PF MPs work with MMD govt. If these are the MPs Dora is refering to, then there is no secrecy over their activities.
It may also be true that MMD feels threatened and have launched a vicious psychological war to distract the opposition and cause the masses to lose confidence in the pact
UPND should have kept quite over the post story. the story was a result of fear that there candidate will lose popularity once upnd withdraws from the pact. the fear by them is so enormous that they will publish anything that will protect thier prefered candidate. upnd should not be apologatic or defend itself from those reports. upnd reserves the right to hold discussions with which ever party they want. there is no way upnd should subjugate itself from an unelected party president, who has been in power for 10 years without going for elections. please country men lets be objective and sincere. this man wields so much power within the party that he has idirectly suspend the party constitution. what more when he is given state power. he becmes commander in chief. upnd rescue us frm ths man
(UPND/PF) Pact will fail bcoz:
1. Meembe wants vice presidency for his work as vuvuzela, but HH alechinga
2. Scott is vice president of PF already which is equal to VP for Zed. HH alechinga
3. Vasco da Banda will definitely win without pact.
4. PF thinks UPND is disposable and doesn’t care anyway
5. Real UPND indunas (chiefs, Tongas and all pro-Mazoka) do not like it. Only HH and a few clowns close to him r really fighting for it
Resolve these and u get a string winning pact.
#10, I meant “strong winning pact” not “string”. Letters ‘i’ and ‘o’ r close with each other on my Qwerty keyboard. If u can’t understand this error and 1. belong to PF, u r a f00l already, 2. if u belong to UPND, I 4giv u, u r already in crap, 3. if u r MMD, u r an 1diot, quit.
MMD can happily take the discarded chaff from the pact, dance & sleep with them as much as you like. They are not fit for purpose in the pact, & the people know that – whichever way they go, they are doomed, i.e joining MMD or trying to hide in the pact, hence not revealing themselves, however their behaviour has been noted from long before, the motto is “The change we need, 2011 the year for change!!” kuya bebele ba pushi mwe!!
Whether Fred Mmembe or Sata himself doesn’t like the Pact, the resolve will go on. ALUTA CONTINUA LA PACT.
UPND you stand to be dribbled by MCS. Wake up from the slumber.
Who doesn’t know that the rebel MP’s in PF will not be adopted? Who then cares whether there talking to MMD or not? Who then said the rebel or this crop of current MP’s are the only people who can hold that Office on behalf of the people.
Any blogger here can be an MP, to hell with Dora and his SWEET UNCLE HUMPTY DUMPTY
UPND ARE SO UNITED AND THE PARTY IS A FORCE TO RECKON WITH, IAM SO IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY THEY REFUTED THE STORY THAT WAS PUBLISHED BY PF POST. I KNOW THEY ARE TRYING BY ALL MEANS TO DESTROY UPND BUT THEY WILL FAIL CHILUBA FAILED TO BRIBE UPND MPS, LEVY FAILED RB FAILED. THESE GUYS ARE ROCKS ANY WAY TONGAS ARE BY NATURE DIFFICULT TO CORRUPT, I REMEMBER MY OLD DAYS AT CANISIUS WE HAD STURBORN GUYS FROM BWEENGWA. WE COULDNT MANIPULATE THEM, VIVA PF VIVA UPND!!!!
