Lusaka’s Kalikiliki residents complain over footbridge

Sikalamba temporal bridge whichwas swept away by floods in Sinazongwe district near Sinazeze Township
After so many appeals to have a permanent footbridge erected on a stream in Lusaka’s Kalikiliki area, some residents are up in arms with the area councilor, James Maimba, and other community development committee members over what they term a substandard structure.

The residents are alleging that the standard of the bridge does not equal the amount of money that was pumped into the project.

They have further alleged that the bridge will worsen the flooding adding that a much better bridge would have eased up their movement during the rainy season.

However the Lusaka City Council has stated that the structure which is deemed substandard had the blessings of its engineers.

LCC Public Relations Officer, Henry Kapata, said more than thirty five million kwacha from Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was used to put up the structure.

He said the move to use concrete material was arrived at as a mitigating measure against vandalism.

And area councilor James Maimba told Muvi TV News that he has never handled the money for the project other than playing a monitoring role.

  1. Good evening

The residents of a Capital city truly deserve better even if they come from subcity areas. People are fed up of these substandard structures which can also become a hazardous death trap to them as in the case of a footbridge, The councilor also owes the people an explanation regarding the amount of money that was pumped into the project. Auditors to the task, please.

  2. I am glad to read that residents now know their rights, if the MP or Councillor does not perform during his term of office, do not vote for him, people in Zambia have been taken for granted for too long, they elect these people in positions and they do not perform.
    Well done Lusaka’s Kalikiliki residents!

  3. Kalikili-what? I was born and brought up in Lusaka but how come I don’t know of this place, is that it’s official name?

  4. Why tamuya kumushi imwe ba fee colour just yapping for this or that kwati we are short of land pa Zed. Go back to the land and stop making noise muno town. Make yourselves useful for once in your sorry lives.

  5. Is the pf run council responsible for the bridge? I remember being told that we must judge pf on how they perform in running council as an indicator of how they would run the country………..

  6. That is what you get in PF held areas. The MPs are too busy following their leaders insults and court cases at the expense of meaningfull development. Sata has no advisors. If he had they would extroll the fossilsed cobra to spend 2 minuets talking about development. He seems fixated with how fast that court door revolves.

  7. Those residents of Kalikiliki compplaining should know that one bird in hand is worth nine in the bush. What they should have been crying for a basic sch and a health centre and other developmental projects. Housing in that area need upgrading, road network is bad.

  8. I hope the information surrounding this foot bridge is included in the PF report on PF led councils which I am still waiting for. Lusaka Times, is it possible to follow up on this report??

  9. # 9 i agree with you 100%, but be gental on them. Surely, the land is empty in the rural areas, those in Kalikili or whatever you call it should go back home mbabatija kulima.
