European Union (EU) head of delegation to Zambia, Derek Fee

Out-going Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Zambia, Derek Fee has said Zambia has recorded enormous economic strides during his four- year stint as EU head of delegation in the country.

And Dr Fee has also said that Zambia under the leadership of President Rupiah Banda had attracted more foreign direct Investment (FDI) as a result of sound economic policies on investment.

Dr. Fee who has been in the country as EU head of delegation since 2006 said the country had recorded significant progress in sectors such as infrastructure, Trade and Industry, mining and tourism.

He said the growth of the infrastructure industry and other sectors had seen a number of jobs being created for Zambians hence reducing poverty among citizens.

Dr. Fee said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that Zambia had the potential to become a middle income country by 2015, if only good policies were put in place and implemented.

On the political scene in the country, the outgoing EU representative commended Zambia for maintaining political calmness despite internal political differences among politicians.

He said Zambia had demonstrated political maturity judging by the manner in which it had addressed its political differences.

Meanwhile, Dr Fee urged Zambia to prudently utilise the financial support being rendered to the country by donors.

He said proper utilisation of donor funds was key to building capacities in developing countries such as Zambia as well as building donor confidence.

Dr. Fee who has since retired is expected to leave the country on December 22nd and would be replaced by Gilles Hervio from France who is currently EU head of delegation in Senegal.

  1. Give us a break Mr Fee. Zambia has done badly. No progress. We’re like a country that has been at war for 46 yrs.

  2. Its typical when saying farewel, who can say mwalenjipikila ifibi even though it was the case. This speech can not be taken seriously. Yes during Mwanawasa time, we are now going in reverse gear

  3. Look at the 2 idots above , one has not been to Zambia in 46 yrs and the other dosent know that we have 72 other tribes in Zambia.

  4. Kc I am not Bemba but since I am Zambian I shall speak it proudly. Uli buti? Muli uli adumbu? Mulibwanji ? Or in yo! What’s up ex-say!?

  5. #4 you are a fool. Walitumpa sana. why insult others? Do you know the guys above? They know more about Zambia and are regular in Zambaia and that’s why they’ are speaking from experience. Have you walked along Cairo rd lately? Do you know how Kafue round about looks like? do you know how Kamwala looks like? how about Madevu? chawama etc. If you feed from GRZ, don’t come and insult innocent people here who have a heart and are doing something good in Zambia than yourself who’s milking Zambia to be overeas.

  6. I knew the PF cadres will come spill their ignorance on this blog. It is amazing and yet embarrassing that a progressive nation like Zambia can have comments like those posted by PF cadres above. This hatred for their nation and development is shocking. I have never seen people who hate development, progress and their nation so much as I have seen in PF.

All I have to say is if you would rather see the country in tatters so Mr. Sata can be president and refuse to progress with the rest of the nation, YOU CAN GO TO HELL. Zambia will move on with or without you.

  7. Thanks shiukombe, Kc no hard feelings brother but truth is truth Zambia needs low to medium job creation. infrastructure and the works. Economist I am not PF just someone that loves his nation that the good God Jesus gave us. Let’s work as one and move on to Zambia’s growth, so that all benefit.

  8. Dr. Fee said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that Zambia had the potential to become a middle income country by 2015, if only good policies were put in place and implemented.

If Zambia has recoreded enormous developments in your 6 years, why do we need other good policies, are the current policies not good enough, you are either making fun of the same development or being sarcastic with your diplomacy

  9. It is only the PF kaponyas and their Bwinjimfumu branch, the Post newspaper, who can not see the development taking place in Zambia. All their illusionary economic theory is “more laundered money in your pockets within 90 days.” Losers, get a life! Forward with RB!

  10. While we recognise that many things affecting people have not been attended to we must acknowledge that much has been archieved in the past two years since RB took office. If you moved at the rate the gvt has moved in the past two years, we would have a noticeable difference in the outlook of our economy. I hope this is seen by many, i know not everybody has capacity to see these issues. Some think that when things happen, its natural; they forget that there are people who cause them to happen

There are many things that need to be done of course. I would not say that the pace we are moving is the best we can under the circumstances, NO; we can do better. But we must also fully understand that performance is not by promise, its real and faces real constraints such as resources.

  11. derek fee has seen the progress zambia has made which sata and hh and their minnions have also seen but choose to turn a blind eye. EU is our big funder and for them to notice the huge development we have achieved means more votes for MMD and less for sata bcos HH is moving to MMD unless he wants to remain alone in UPND.

  12. the truth is that zambia has been doing very well the last 7 year or so. now i know to some doing well means people living very well and that is true. but to get to that stage we’ll have to pass through this stage of putting up good policies, correct implimentation and monitoring recording growth as informed from statistics only after this does it trickle down. i think we are going towards that stage. which ever political party that takes over will have to move slowly towards that end point. so zambia is doing well, though we can do better.

  13. Being a pf supporter means celebrating when there is bad news about your country and burying your head if anything positive is done or said about where you come from truly speaking how ‘patriotic’ is that? Are you going to say that this muzungu has been paid with money from the sell of Zamtel or what? My advice to pf would be treat any positive news about the Zambian economy as if it is ten times better and then formulate policy on that basis. This knee-jerk complacency and denial you tend to exhibit will only make you all look small-minded and myopic. It is this complacency which has led you to insulting HH instead of recognising the fact that at a stroke he could easily finish the political aspirations of Sata and his rabid followers.

  14. #7 Niwebo kapitao pano? Just sh.u.t up or speak for yourself, musamba pa sate. Anso wankalifya mwandi. Nga wachiba mupepi nga lakulekamo bazuka.

  15. Zambians are only good at being cynical to any good news. If you think you think Sata will do a better job than the current government then you must live in cuccoo land. Sata represents the typical old fashioned African politician who thrives on African gullibility and ignorance of the modern world. This is the world of inward investments, internet, global diplomacy. Zambia is now developing. You might not feel it because you are busy sitting on on your ass doing absolutely f..k all. For the first time the economy is growing, inflation has been kept low and the foreign investors have noticed. Sata and his cronies are only after your money. Come on wake up!
