President Banda captured with a smile on his face

President Rupiah Banda has said that the country will not hold elections on 1st April this year, as alleged by PF leader Michael Sata.

President Banda ssaid Mr Sata’s statement that he has set April 1st, which is fools day, as date for the tripartite elections are false.

And President Rupiah Banda has bemoaned the low number of registered voters in North Western Province in the on-going voter registration exercise.

President Banda said the number of registered voters in the province so far was unsatisfactory adding that there was need for more people to be captured in the exercise so that they participate in this year’s general elections.

ZANIS reports that the President was speaking shortly after arrival at Solwezi airport when he addressed Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) party officials, Heads of Government and Parastatal institutions and members of the general public who were on hand to receive him.

President Banda said he wanted to see a bigger number of people registered as voters in the province as it was the only way they could exercise their right to vote in this year’s general elections.

He has since called upon Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) party officials in the province to ensure that more people were captured as voters.

President Banda is in Northwestern Province to officially open the MMD National Provincial conference after successful ones in Central, Copperbelt, Western and Eastern Provinces.

He was accompanied by Ministers of Finance and National Planning Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, Works and Supply Mike Mulongoti, Parliamentary Chief Whip Vernon Mwaanga and MMD National Chairman Michael Mabenga.

On hand to receive him were Cabinet Ministers of Energy Kenneth Konga, Foreign Affairs Kabinga Pande, Gender and Development Sara Sayifwanda, Youth, Sports and Child Development Kenneth Chipungu, Education Deputy Minister Richard Taima, Provincial Minister Daniel Kalenga, Senior MMD party officials, cadres and Heads of Government and Parastatal institutions.

  1. Rupiah, Only a fo.o.l can show such surprise. With their experience in the Mufumbwe by-election, potential voters are afraid of your violence

  2. #5, You are right. But ba presido besu, awe mwandini. Dont we have handsome men in Zambia who can be at plot one sure. Another one likely to be at plot one, one MC Sata is no better than RB in terms of looks. Kwati fyakutinya abaiche sure.

  3. Atase……FTJ given all his ill gotten properties. Series of blocks of flats, the House Housing the South Africcan Embassy etc… Chiluba formed a company and registered it in Panama. Now countrymen Panama has one of the laxed rules to host companies and offshore accounts. They dont ask questions. ka FTJ registered a company in Panama to syphone cash.

RB’s down fall will be heavily be caused by Chiluba…..RB Out 2011

  4. Ba RB, Sata is just fooling you. Why should MMD be in the forefront encouraging voter to register? We have ECZ that has been mandated to do that job. RB stop politicising everything.

  5. I find it very strange. Can you go say to your village and expect the same people you live with in your home to line up and receive you? Pretty weird this thing of ministers from Lusaka lining up to receive the president. They probably meet up with him to say they are going and next they line up to greet him. Weird wasteful protocols?

  6. What I am not pleased with RB is this issue of openning MMD conferences using state resources. This is proper misuse of resources. Surely he has no conscious as it has nothing to do with government activities. Are we back to the old days of the Party and Its Government (PIG)?

  7. Election date should be embolded in our consititution instead of being carried in RBs pocket. You see Sata is right in some way because this RB can just work up and announce the date without giving chance to others to organize themselves

  8. Pipo, the comments are supposed to be on the subject matter not the appearance of Mr. Banda. Please be mature enof to accept that not all of us are endowed with good looks by God.
I pray that we can learn to respect elderly people!!!

  9. Voting is a right and must be excercised by every adult..in Australia its an offence not to vote if you are an adult so right on RB people msut register and VOTE…

  10. Well, there is no smoke without fire. I would not buy what bwana RB is saying. Am sure SATA could be right but now that the date has been exposed, it is possible there is a going to be a change in the dates.

  11. Fellow Zambians, why i think April could have been the day set for the elections.
    1. RB started campaigning a year ago, so he is trying to get his opponents off guard for a quick one – but SATA has exposed his scheme
    2. The budget is currently effected in January, so the new governement need enough time to prepare the budget in readiness for January budget. This points to the April date as the most likely
    3. I can just say that let us wait and see

  12. you take what sata says with a pinch of salt the man has a very small memory. yesterday he said withdraw recognition for litunga and forget BRE and today he says (IF) elected president he will honor the barotse accord. People who bwliwvw in sata amaze me at least HH though he is also contaminated with pact bullshit

  13. Our election process is flawed.the president holds too much power.the election date should be fixed, constitutionally,so as to give a level playing field to all the parties involved.
And the ministers and govt officials should stop using tax payers’ hard-earned money to fund their political travels.those mmd ministers are in northwestern province for party duties and not government duties.it is therefore unacceptable that they should be using state resources.
    Peace.

  14. LT…. how many headlines?? Sata this and that , and you are busy telling us about voter regi…. don’t chair us to the small mmd bulshirt!

  15. I feel sorry for Ruphia, now he will be forced to find another date because he doesnt want to be seen to have succumbed to Sata’s predictions. But seeing what is going on in the MMD it is to their advantage if the elections are held in October this year because hopefully by then they will have sorted out everyone they hate in the party. Nonetheless I am hopeful that the PACT will carry the day, because this MMD fellows have just lost direction and no longer understands what their mandate is. They have refused to implement windfall tax, subbotaged the constitution making process, treat public media as their own Kantemba, building schools and hospitals without staff and supplies – and you know it is shocking that in some rural areas the only building that resembles dev is a school. Shame!!

  16. # 10 Deja Vu ,

What organization are talking about when you have had 10 years of Sata’s ballot rejections, failed insulting campaigns, and 2 years of failed marriage of convenience pact? Don’t you know that MMD and RB have ignored all the rubbish you, Sata and the tabloid are spewing 24/7 in vanity? Instead, they are in national wide campaign overdrive and election date will come any day at RB’s discretion.

  17. Senior citizen is the one to die of cardiac arrest because he can not see any other person at STATE HOUSE than RB. What a bigot!!. For us we can accommodate the MMD scum

  18. #17 where do u hail from? the topic is different not abt litunga i cnt blieve we have such hurters pa zed. Rupi is damn scared of losing he knos he is going. i suggest the PACT continu to press him for the date coz he will put it in april but not first aprill. there ar all indications to this.

  19. This President has got no clue !!
he has no adherence to what the citizens want and the only few words that are coming out of his mouth lately are warnings of punishment !!
is this a colonial day type of government or will we see brighter days!!
50 years from now Zambia will be completely done if we continue at the pace we’re going and i blame all MMD cadres and their leaders !!

  20. Zambian politics never cease to amaze me !!! Can a party president who has been running a party for years and has taken part in afew elections honestly be worried about the election date- come on gentlemen. We all knew we shall have elections in 2011 whether early or late does not matter if you are seriously prepared. And Nyama soya as well should realise that keeping the election date close to his chest ,will not in any way improve his fortunes, these are cheap useless tactics that only worked in a one party participatory democracy and for one reason only- to sort out the preferred candidates.

  21. sata knows better about the fools day election date than anyone else. for the sake of everyone’s sanity, its about time the pact reveals the clown that will stand against Bwezani….

  22. Sata is a clown plain and simple. He gets so excited when a microphone is placed in front of him that he says whatever comes into his defective mind. He is so inconsistent that it amazes me that anyone can take him seriously. Now he claims Chiluba forced him to write the letter asking for removal of the Litunga. Then in spite of him not being Republican President he comes up with the date of election. Sorry old clown, that privilege in the current constitution belongs to RB so save your breath.

Can Sata explain why he so passionately supported FTJ’s third term bid if all along he new that the midget was a crook. Sata will do anything to win elections including defecating in public if that is what it takes…and his supporters will still support him. Pathetic!!!

  23. Hold your fire its how we ask for extension of the voting period. Now that Sata has said, it will be extended to end of year that gives the pact time to finish their reorganisation. Sata is wise viva pact viva.

  24. Marlo
You dont know what you are talking about. political parties are suppose to urge people their cadres to register as voters. Dont show yours stupi.dity amd empty headedness here

  25. WHETER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT 2011 KUYA BEBELE…..JUST START PACKING YOUR BAGS COS YOUR TIME IS UP!!!……NI DONCHI KUBEBA BATATA!!!!!

  26. #29
ICEBERG – So why cant your RB tell us the date- April February November what ever? Why keep it as a personal secret? Muleumfwako nensoni. The election belongs to Zambians not MMD/RB. Why keep it in his pocket? Simple, he is consulting Kafupi when he can catch the opposition unware. But this not a game be serious.

  27. #39
True MMD Cadre – Tone your language man. MMD killed the clause that states the date. Your staement is wrong, the President is compelled to announce the date, but the crooks in MMD have taken advantage by announcing the dates only whenn it suits them.

  28. The Zambian Mandate allows RB to announce and give the nation 30 days notice to have elections.
So all those of you that are vomitting noise, check your facts. Or just get educated on this issue….

  29. Closer than close, what is chimutunta? Bushe nimutima kuti mbengu mbengu 20th september here I come
