Zesco United on Saturday moved one step close to advancing to the first round of the Orange CAF Champions League.
This is after beating Liga Muculmana of Mozambique 3-0 in their preliminary round first leg match played at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Zesco took a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Alfred Luputa Jackson Mwanza in the 7th and 21st minutes respectively.
Portipher Zulu put the result beyond doubt with the third goal in the 81st minute.
The two sides will meet in the return leg in Maputo in a fortnights time with the winner t face either Young Buffaloes of Swaziland or Saint Michel from the Seychelles in March.
Meanwhile, the Zambia women’s team bowed out of the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers after losing 3-0 to Banyana-Banyana South Africa in Durban also on Saturday.
Jermaine Seoposenwe, Amanda Dlamini and Noko Matlou were on target to see Banyana-Banyana advance to the second round 5-1 on aggregate.
tough luck girls. next time work harder and go beyond qualifiers. Its only hardwork that rewards girls. Remain focussed and wish you all the best next time. As for Zesco i can only say congrats and fly the flag even higher.
ZESCO with your pre-paid metres installed in our homes, you are now reaping a lot of money as a state firm. make sure the money is not channeled to MMD for campaigns. Congrats. You have done us proud like Ester did yesterday. The sky is the limit. emulate TP Mazembe of DRC. You can do it. 3 – 0 when we are not yet kicked off the season that ended prematurely is commendable feat achieved by Zesco..
This team will never go anywhere for as long as they are trained by a woman. Lets face facts, this ball game is best known by men and only MEN can train and make the girls win not a WOMAN bane…what is Zambia trying to prove? Which other country has a woman as national team coach? Chi Kalusha and friends can you for once think you fools!!!!!!!!! This is utter nonsense. this should not have been reported, it is a waste of space
To the ladies, the writing was on the WALL. I saw Banyana Banyana on Supersport channel training and also clips of our ladies training at the dilapidated independence stadium. You could clearly see the differences in commitments. Our girls overweight and lack match fitness. The girls from South Africa beat us 2 -1 here, we had no hope reversing the score line.
Look at Ester, is she trained by a WOMAN? No its a Man thats why she is able to win and win big. Congrats Ester and wooooooo to the shepolopolo gays!!
The almighty lord is dumbfounded with Shipoloplolo,s shameful record against banyana banyana.you will be thoroughly roasted here when your time comes if you dont improve
Hard luck girls,at least you avoided an embarrassing 4-0 bashing like one team which call itself a national l team suffered to a small team that failed to win a single march at the Asian football champs.
no.3 & 5 it’s not about which sex is coaching the team instead FAZ must put up development structures in all districts and come up with functional district football leagues. The problem with us Zambians is that we win matches in the newspapers than on the pitch.
