MMD Chairperson for Elections Mike Mulongoti has declared his candidature for the MMD Vice-Presidency at the forth-coming party national convention.
Mr. Mulongoti, who is also Works and Supply Minister told Journalists, Wednesday that he has decided to contest the position of party Vice-Presidency because of his vast experience.
He said he has done a lot for the party and feels now is the right time for him to serve the MMD at a different level.
Mr. Mulongoti also urged party members, especially young people, to aspire for various party positions and defend the principle of democracy in the party.
He also said he will ensure that he campaigns with dignity and appealed to all party members aspiring for various positions to do same.
Mr. Mulongoti said all party members vying for positions in the party should be given chance to contest without intimidation.

I can’t believe this, is this not the same Mulongoti who not long ago said Rupiah Banda must be adopted for the presidency unopposed? He also says any party members vying for positions should be allowed to do so ‘without intimidation’, in other words he knows that intimidation is always applied contrary to their usual denials. Mulongoti is a double faced hypocrit. We shall watch the unfolding drama from a safe distance.
We might as well start writing Mulongoti’s political obituary. In a few days from now, William Banda will organize his storm troopers and hound Mulongoti out of the MMD for betraying George Kunda who is also an aspirant for the same position.
I support RB in this year’s elections. If i had a way Mutati or Chituwo should have been MMD vice President. Or Chirwa if he had not left. That is if MMD are thinking about continuing in power after 2016.

Reminds me of a joke about a guy who went for the first time to this posh restaurant and nervously asked the waiter if they serve prawns. “Please sit down we can serve anybody” answered the waiter. Anybody can stand in the MMD indeed.

What Mulongoti has seen is a betrayal of George Red Lips Kunda of levy’s legacy and Red Lips hand in the dubious aquittal of FTJ on proven cases.

Sure you are welcome to exercise your democratic right to contest. But you don’t qualify for the post. My barometer or themometer tells me that you lack certain qualities. You can email me and will have discussions on this issue. However, you will be recorded in the history book that you stood for MMD vice-president in 2011 national convention. It is nice to dream big at times. I wonder whether or not your CV will improve by contesting for V-C. All the best.
