What we need is more competition and better work ethics and sacrifices for the country. If the chines will help show zambians these qualities lets have them. As an example of Zambian hopless polices, there is a well known sports facility in lusaka, municipal sports club, munies, situated near olympia swimming pool. This club has so much potential yet is in such a sooory state. it is run by a commitee of about 7 wankers who have intrenched intrests blocking the development of this facility. One member runs the bar, the other the kitchen. They have completly failed the pipo of lusaka. A sports club with nothing but a bar and kitchen. They refuse to rent it out because of jealousy and greed yet are quick to point at investors.
Good afternoon
A very good piece of documentary for debate. Thanks LT for sharing this one.
Well, I think the public health office should launch an investigation to verify whether the “taste test” is true and if those chinese are really using some dubious techniques to boost their chicken growth, then they should be penalised and fined or their business closed. For all we know, they may be feeding their chickens with toxic substances like Dioxin oil which is hazardous for human consumption.
Talk and talk and talk and talk… That is what Zambians are good at. I bet if words alone could produce wealth then most Zambians would be rich. Personally I would have respect for people that let their achievements do the talking. Look at people like Bill Gates ( Microsoft ) and Larry Ellison ( Oracle ). They do not say much in public but they provide employment for thousands of people all over the world. Talk is cheap.
I agree with you Azovu…we talk a lot we are generally lazy and not ambitious people. We need the competition to wake up.We rely on government for even the simplest issues. If we work hard we will have a lot at stake and will expect more efficiency and accountability from our government – including the protection of our investment and transparency.Even the government will respect us. We expect so little as a country, we work less and are not ambitious. We are also very short sighted and that can be seen in how Sata is now receiving attention.
Nice clip.I like the look that girl gave the chinese guy at the beginning of the clip.Competition is good but we need improved government regulation. If these Chinese are fattening their chickens with chemicals or antibiotics that will have long term repercussions on the health of our people. These chemicals are introducing carcinogens into our enviroment.Nice to see our people are articulate
kick em out of the market!!!
Much as I dont agree Chinese investing in small scale businesses like poultry,it has just exposed how Zambians are NOT willing to invest in such business of the benefit of everybody. If we were serious, this competition(I am 100% in support of competition cos it drives the prices down) will be between Zambians and there will be NO losers.Question: where are Zambians? Iam sure somebody is waiting for the govt to do this(poultry).I somehow blame socialism cos I also see this in some Russians(lack of business ambitions) but then the Chinese had socialism and still innovative. We got change or will continue losing out.
Zedian consumers need to be made aware/educated on why its important to consume more of local/Zedian produced goods comparable in price/taste to those imported/foreigner-produced.

Shud be:how Zambians are NOT willing to invest in such business to the benefit of everybody.
what is the minimum ammount of money is one allowed to invest in Zambia, am asking this because i have been told that a foreigner has to come into the country with at least US $250,000 when i look around at the businesses foreigners are doing in zed, it beats me to belive that they invested so much.. I’m married to a foreigner and planning to come to Zambia, I have been told that my spouse has to bring in atleast US $180,000 to Zambia. I see congolese, nigerians, chinese amoung others…with little businesses all over zambia and i doubt it that they brought US $250,000- 150,000 to invest in the country. Please Help!!!
Our Phd students are researching why all of a sudden, Zambians are now suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and other diseases. They want to find out if there’s a link between some of the foods we’re eating like the Chinese chickens…We welcome competition, but GRZ should take random tests of these chickens otherwise millions of our people will go to the grave early.
@# 4,5 and 8. when where you last in Zambia for you to call Zambians Lazy. Have you carefully analyzed this clip. Zambians are saying they are working hard to grow chickens which are fit for human consumption while the Chinese are producing cheap health Hazard chickens resulting in Zambians loosing business.Zambia do not have a shortage in chicken supply. we are always producing enough to feed ourselves and export to Congo.
The farm being shown here is nothing compared to the farm I saw in Chongwe which owned by a Zambian, but he complained bitterly on the unfair competition he was facing from the Chinese who were growing health Hazard chickens. Join me to send messages to our friends back in Zambia not to buy these chickens…just write..DO NOT BUY CHINESE CHICKENS…send to 5 people
Any way competition is good if the equation is balanced for all players. There should be a level playing field and healthy consideration in the growing of chiken should be taken into account. No person should grow chemical chickens as the practice is dagerious to people’s health.
The point to consider is not allowing the chinese to completely take away the market from Zambians. How are Zambians going to feed their children if the chinese can be retailing, let them whosele their chiken to the marketeers. Such considerations sould be put in place if our poor marketeers were to be protected from unfare competition. Cheap loans should also be given to Zambians chicken farmes as the chinese are using cheap money from China.
This is how we can create a level playing fields in markets
Prices only come down when there is healthy competition. It is up to the customer to choose which chickens they want to buy. In England people have a choice between all kinds of chickens. One can buy broilers, organic, free range and all kinds. IT IS THE CUSTOMER WHO HAS A CHOICE. If the Zambian customer does not want the taste or indeed the look of the Chinese chickens he/she won’t buy them and the Chinese will go out of business. These stories of hazardous chickens are made up stories. These guys only want to go back to the good old days when eating a chicken was a luxury left to the few. If there are any issues to do with public safety, the government should take this up. They have agencies to deal with this kind of thing. Zambians wake up.
#12 please learn the facts. If what you proclaim is right then the quality of our PhD students in Zambia is worrisome. It goes without saying that as we have slowly adopted the western diets in Zambia we are beginning to witness the type of disorders that have always been associated with the western world. Zambians are now eating things like chips, hamburgers, hotdogs, crisps and readymade foods with high sugar and salt content. These foods promote conditions like diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. It is the education that is needed. Starting with people like yourself. Unfortunately the Chinese have exposed us of being a lazy type of people and we cannot deal with it.
Chinese investors who invest in farming are also welcome, however their investing in farming should not exploit the market for Zambian farmers by them chinese selling cheap and genetically modified food stuffs on Zambian market. This is the time when tthe Zambia consumer agency should wake up do some studies on suspected food stuffs on the market. Also if government is serious about investment and export in Agriculture, they should come up with a strategy to work with this Chinese investing in farming and start exporting some of agro food to countries in the world.we need investors who could also export in agro products.
Did this boy know what he was talking about? RB will crucify him
£40.00 a month.. salary! Is that the agreed Government minimum wage?
Thanks # 4-azovu & #5-justice.We’re always blaming those in gov’t yet they are a reflection of society. It is as if we’re waiting for those in gov’t to give us opportunities instead of creating one for ourselves.Where zambia is today truly reflects our minimal efforts. We will recieve not what we idly wish for,but what we justly earn. Our rewards will always be in proportion to our sacrifice.
I like it when he says the Chinese are selling inflatable chickens
We can never run away from competition in business its the name of the game.
dem these Chinese cme all the way from Chine just to start come and sell chickens way is the ZDA or the Immigration with effect from today i will not be eating chicken with me knowing the source of the Chicken i hope these fast foods are not being supplied by the Chines.
i hope the GRZ watched this clip as much as the Chines funding they campaigns they of us 1st we cast votes and my vote is very important
Do you remember those nice pies at the REC? This is the same gentleman in the documentary who used to make them during the Roan Antelope (RCM) era. Although I should confess, I never got used to getting on that diving board, never. I guess I was just a brave coward then ah ah!
Some industries in South Africa are no go areas for foreigners, taxi business for example. You are fast dead if you attempted to break into them.
As a nation, we are too docile and too accommodating to our detriment. What next for the Chinese? Mishanga sellers, chibuku suppliers/sellers? This is what happens when you lack strong leadership.
I found Chinese women selling ifitumbuwa at Chiwempala market in Chingola 2 years ago… they came to stay…
if the zambians can raise free range chickens without pumping them up with concentrated feed like the chinese the zambian chicken will taste better and be a healthier meal. chinese want fast and quick money, so like commerical operations all over the world they will sell cheaper chickens with poorer quality. the local zambian chicken market need to advertise themselves as free range, organic chicken and it will sell better to people who care about what they eat.
the thought of more chinese leaving china, scary thought!! No more chinese in Zambia please!!!!!!!! Feeding chemicals to these chickens and selling them to zambians! let them contaminate there own chickens not come all the way to zambia to sell chemically fed chickens!!! sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wonder why he made that program clearly standing against china? Friends from China feel offended after watching it. As the free trade is happening everyday, why still someone complain about cheaper products while tighting the belt for not to spending too much? Should all governments pay more attention to the internal environemnt and deal with the GDP growh instead of making a loser statement without putting any effort in making a change?
Chinese @ it again.
