No arrest for Sata – DPP

Share

Director of Public Prosecutions, Chalwe Mchenga has rejected requests to arrest and prosecute Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata for having allegedly masterminded the abduction of former PF member Samson Zulu.

Mr Mchenga says arresting and prosecuting Mr Sata now would raise serious credibility problems to any prosecution because the PF leader has been around since June 2009 when Mr Zulu was abducted.

He said he would NOT endorse the arrest of Mr Sata now.

This is contained in a letter to Mr Zulu signed by Mr Mchenga.

The DPP has however, authorized the arrest and prosecution of some of Mr Zulu’s abductors who were NOT apprehended because they were on the run.

But Mr Zulu questioned why police have NOT arrested Mr. Sata when his abductors were arrested and charged.

He said the law should not be selective but prosecute any person who is found wanting.

He was speaking to ZNBC News in LUSAKA, today.

  1. The DPP’s decision is well reasoned. His explanation why he does not want Sata to be arrested now is particularly interesting. It means that there is good reason to arrest Sata but he has just been served by politcal factors, i.e. sycophants and their vuvuzela would have a field day or days claiming that it is a ploy to like to bar Sata from standing in the elections. Well since no life was lost we can afford to let him continue roaming the country and disgracing himself. We want him to be free to campaign so that he is beaten clean at the polls.

  2. If you want to pin Sata with a malicious thought, you will pin yourself. Mr Chalwe you are a wise leader. where were you Mr zulu since your abduction? sahme

  3. Bravo DPP.We said no sane person could report such a matter as an afterthought to police and expect to achieve anything. This was an exercise in futility. These chaps Zulu, Mumbi,Chifire, Lifwekelo, Kalonde, Lungu (“bishop”) etc think they have such clout that they can easily dictate to state institutions. Mumbi was recently embarrassed when DEC reached a dead end on Sata’s $100,000 and now his tribal cousin has met the same embarrassment.

  4. Zulu seems to be enjoying ZNBC coverage. He is on TV almost every other day. Is he following the cameras or they are following. . .
