UPND dares PF in Mutaba polls

Share

UPND Copperbelt Province chairperson Elisha Matambo has said the outcome of the Mutaba Ward by-electionin Kafulafuta Constituency will define the most popular party between the UPND and the Patriotic Front (PF) in the province.

Mr Matambo said in an interview yesterday that the campaigns for the March 3, local government by-elections would show which of the parties commanded a larger following after they fielded separate candidates for the polls.

Mr Matambo said the UPND was successfully selling itself as an alternative political party, able to deliver social and economic development to the people of people in that area and Zambia in general.

PF Ndola District chairperson Rebby Chanda said his party was confident of winning the election.

MMD Masaiti Member of Parliament Gladys Lundwe, who toured the constituency, said the ruling party was undertaking various development projects in the area which could only be successfully completed with the help of councillors from the ruling party.

MMD Masaiti District chairperson Micheal Katambo said the MMD campaign team had embarked on a door to door campaign explaining the development projects which the Government was undertaking and why the people of Mutaba Ward should vote for an MMD councillor.

The MMD have fielded Gilbert Kayingu, while the UPND and the PF fielded John Tuseko and West Phiri respectively.

  1. On “UPND Copperbelt Province chairperson Elisha Matambo has said the outcome of the Mutaba Ward by-electionin Kafulafuta Constituency will define the most popular party between the [United Party for National Development] UPND and the Patriotic Front (PF) in the [Copperbelt] province… said in an interview yesterday that the campaigns for the March 3, local government by-elections would show which of the [2 political] parties [in the PF-UPND PACT] commanded a larger following after they fielded separate candidates for the polls” I admire the confidence that the mighty UPND Team has and hope that PF cadres insulting UPND president Hakainde Hichilema, HH, and the UPND will now check their overrating themselves with their dwindling appeal to voters across Nation.

    Be blest…

  2. Dont be shallow minded. Kafulafuta is not representative of Zambia… you can not generalise based on the outcome of this tiny election to the entire Zambia… UPND, grow up! I now understand why PF behaves the way it behaves towards you. It is because of such hollow justifications…

  3. Kafulafuta is Mpombos stronghold for now. We shall see which party wins. The MMD want to test themselves against their “expelled” MP Mpombo.

    Welcome 3rd March, 2011.

  4. # 3 Dont be a chicken. I can see this man is UPND phobic. Let the best team win. PF are claiming to be very popular, in actual fact your antics with upnd has lost you popularity.

  5. # 5, i am level headed and dont follow blindly… I am also very analytical. What do you mean “dont be a chicken”. I never live fools paradise, sorry if you do. I call a spade a a spade and it is because of shallow thinking that the MMD will continue capitalising on the in fighting among Zambians.

  6. MMD will carry the day but pf isnt popular in rural areas so this might not be a good barometer to determine who is better between pf and upnd

  7. :-? Lets just wait and see. Kafulafuta is not Copperbelt. Thats what failing to work together can do. Mwalaituka mweka mweka.

  8. I think UPND is acting immature. Why is that they are busy talking about PF if they are strong enough to stand on there own.Am tired of this UPND thing jst beg for SATA or RB.period.Kwasila….

  9. Now UPND is becoming boring mwe. Always talking about PF.. why? PF never talks about UPND. Nowander UPND is now a dead party. Just appologise to Sata and PF so you are considered for a vice now. Its not too late. How can a ward election in a very typical village decide who is popular between UPND and PF? And you call yourselves educated ? I doubt.

  10. Thats how ubupuba works. You have received your deserved prize…..death to your party after 2011 elections. HH will then retire from politics without testing cabinet not even MP….sad indeed. You see how a party full of underfives can die coz of lack of leadership? Every person in UPND is a president issuing silly party statements…..how dull you can be in you peffed up education.

  11. I think Matambo is doing what a Politician worth his salt is supposed to be doing.

Its most likely UPND might carry the day looking at the current preferences of the pipo there between PF,UPND & MMD.

  12. Even if UPND won, that wouldnt be a litmus test of the 2011 General elections. The thing is that UPND is extinct. The battle is only between RB and MC and not this stubborn under five called HH.HH will never rule and come 2011 He will be impeached from his own pary.By the way werez Major Chzyuka.Maybe he can pump some sense in this boy’s mind called HH.Time is running out for HH and the writing is on the wall.

  13. 9 its not abt being imature..its the vision wic is nt matchn. These guys hav 2 sit down en resolv issues. Its nt the matter of who speaks the loudest.its how the implementation shud b dan 2 liv up 2 pipo expectatnz

  14. please, this ward is in copperbelt which is pf strong hol,,, lets see who will win,,,,pf also you fighting MMD in mporokosha constuency….who knows,, from what am seeing UPND will perform very well in these elections,,,

  15. NOT ALL UPND MEMBERS ARE TONGAS BUT ALL TONGAS ARE UPND
THE MOST FEAREST CRITICS OF SATA ARE HIS FELLOW BEMBAS

UPND WILL NEVER BE IN THE TOP TWO BRACKET OF POLITICS IN ZAMBIA,THEY WILL ALWAYS BE A DISTANT THIRD,THEY KNOW IT,WE KNOW IT AND GOD KNOWS IT.

INFACT UPND BETTER START BEHAVING OR ELSE THEIR TIME AND CHANCE WILL BE UP SOON,THEY CANOOT BE TO MMD AND BE ACCEPTED,OTHER PARTIES ARE WAITING TO BE COURTED BY PF,WATCH OUT BO CHAPS,SOON BE IRRELEVANT

  16. You see people, this is the only thing that we are getting wrong, PF & UPND are supposed to be united. It is for the good of both parties and the counry at large. Not fighting each other, come on let us all grow up!

  17. PF/UPND – Tribalism won’t do us any good. I think we should be bringing ideas on how we can start getting along well, what is the pact for then?

  18. Ladies & gentlemen,
PF – UPND pact was the life line for Zambia. its not about who’s might, there should be no victor & vanquished. i work in rural Zambia where poverty levels have reached shoulder high. pipo go to bed hungry, wake up & walk the day hungry. if u look at the roads, clinics, govt departments its a sorry sight. i urge both PF & UPND to swallow their pride work together. i am sure they will be enough room for HH & MC to serve the interest of the nation. imagine another five years under Rupi. the man will travel with impunity, fire everyone with disert views, soaring unemployement among the youths. we are finished as Zambians. let the two parties sober up & work together for mother Zambia.

  19. Zebiggy THIRD is not distant. There is only one space in between 3 and 1. Remember Sata at one point, together with BY’s ZRP were 3 and forth but Chiluba bolstered his party to claim second slot. PF started with one MP and in second election, Chiluba helped them get the MPs they have and it moved to second place. For UPND, it used to be second and after Mazoka’s death, many people were disillusioned and late Levy also helped revive MMD’s fortunes and he dug into UPND’s powerhouse. Now fortunes are changing. UPND and HH are rising in popularity and who knows, he might even get the second slot or even the first. This is reality of politics. So when you debate such issues, be sober, don’t be drunk with unreasonableness, things change

  20. Foolish people will go on fighting on line of TRIBES and so forth, People the issue is who is going to help us come out of this mess? And the other truth is that, if as opositions they take different routes, Know that MMD will go on , so what we ought to do is to put our heards together and cry in encouraging the PACT to see beyound their bedrooms. All we need is change wehther be MC to take it or HH. However the two on independent routes they will cry for ever. The medicine is the two to pull in the same direction holding the same rope.

  21. #6, MMD is not capitalising on any divisions between Zambians. It is capitalising on the united front or support that Zambians have overwhelmingly given it, you will see it at the polls soon. To paraphrase your statement, MMD promised spades and it is delivering spades. Others in the PACT have not found their feet yet, and they don’t even know whether they are coming or going.

  22. #21 the happenings in the Pact show us that these parties have no plans for Zambia, they have no idea what they want to do with power. They cannot even organise themselves. How then do you expect them to reduce the poverty that you are talking about? Under RB there is some money in their pockets via FISP and the bumper harvest, schools and hospitals and roads are being built and the economy is stable and on the path to sustainable growth.

  23. 24//
You have a point. Its too early to consider MMD as a push-over, given the fragmented Opposition too. Admittedly they may have made some mistakes but still have grip of rural Zambia and some urban centres on top of their nationwide coverage. MMD is the only party that has presence in every ward coutrywide, whereby opposition have regional biases. Sure, MMD still has potential to win this year’s elections. Mind you its expected that the pact will lose some of its supporters once they announce their Presidential candidate, so Zedians be careful the way you judge.

  24. 20 Proffesori Abubaka//

Dear the pact is too cosmetic to be trusted. On top of that its state house focused not service delivery as they preach. Because each of the leaders aims at State House none can simply let the other go. I wish their focuss was on delivering a service to the Zambian people rather than un-sitting RB.

  25. In case you are feeding on some pipo in mmd, truth is, rb is putting in his own team after the convention. What he has now, largely, is late Levy’s team. Be careful because you will remain in dust! Don’t say you were not told.

  26. IMWE BA MATAMBO, IS THIS HOW DULL YOU ARE?…….MUTABA WARD MAY BE ON THE COPPERBELT BUT IT’S NOT CB ITSELF….YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS WITH YOUR CHALLEGE…..DEEP DOWN YOUR HEART, YOU KNOW THAT CB IS THE MASTER BEDROOM OF PF….AND YOU’RE DREAMING OF BEING MORE POPULAR THAN PF?……NO WONDER THIS PACT THING CANNOT WORK COZ PF CANNOT WORK WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE INCAPABLE MAKING A SIMPLE ANALYSIS…ALL YOU DO IS MAKE UNREASONABLE DEMANDS THAT YOUR UNDER FIVE PRES. SHOULD LEAD THE PACT…..JOINENIFYE BA MMD….PF IS TOO GOOD FOR YOU
