THE people of Mporokoso are voting on today to choose a member of Parliament to represent them. The political parties contesting the seat are MMD, UNIP, Patriotic Front (PF) and NAREP (National Restoration Party).
Returning officer Mwansa Mfula confirmed that all the officers and election materials are already in the 33 polling stations across the vast constituency.
The Mporokoso seat fell vacant when the MP Maynard Misapa resigned from MMD to join PF. Mr Misapa had just been relieved of his deputy ministerial position at Youth, Sport and Child development when he quit the ruling party.
MMD candidate Dominic Musonda said he is sure of winning the seat and that President Banda has made it easy for him by campaigning in the constituency.
Mr Musonda who is former Mporokoso District Commissioner said he is well known throughout the district and the people know that he can deliver on his promises.
UNIP candidate Anthony Nkonde is also confident of winning the election.
He said the PF and MMD candidates have been MPs before and had allegedly not delivered.
NAREP candidate Joyce Mukando said men have allegedly failed to represent the people of Mporokoso and it is time for a woman to take charge.
She said she has received overwhelming support from the grassroots whom she worked with through community clubs.
PF’s Mr Misapa could not be reached by press time.
Anti Voter Apathy executive director Bonnie Tembo said the race is mainly between the MMD and PF.
Mporokoso constituency has just over 12, 000 registered voters.
AVAP, SACCORD (Southern African Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes) and CARITAS Zambia have deployed election monitors in all the 33 polling stations.

wina azalila!!!!!!!
Zambia has been one of the top countries wasting more resource on by-elections and elected people cant even deliver. So just this year Mporokoso MP seat would be voted twice considering the fact that general elections will be held anytime from now this year 2011, imagine that.
# 2 thats why we need a good costitution to counter all these unnecessary by elections. which will be delivered next year by PF. No worries!
I love the picture, it reminds me of (typical) rural Zambia – alot of dust, amabump, very dry, with pedestrians walking on the sides or at center nga takuli imyotoka. pa Zed, except for family and friends, honestry there is nothing there is nothing to mis!
Pliz people help me, why LT does not get news from credible media houses like Radio Phoenix, and the Post Newspaper? Always goes for Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and Qfm. Is LT a propaganda of MMD, Herb kanfulumende? Their standard is below average:-?:-?:-?:-?
#4 sure and you see a gentleman with gravel dust in the hair in church,to show that he arrived from town.
The mood was hyped when the crowd noticed some movement in the presidential motorcade.
“We want change! We want change! We want change! wooooo!” shouted the crowd mockingly as President Banda drove past.
The President and his team tried to retaliate by flashing MMD symbols as they drove past the jeering crowd. But the cadres seemingly appeared to have been even more incensed by this gesture from the President who kept smiling and flashing the MMD symbol amidst this confusion.
“Rupiah uyu aleseka nokuseka ? Fuseki! Fuseki! Uleti twalisekelamo nokuchula (Rupiah is even smiling, he thinks we are happy with our suffering here),” shouted one of the people standing along the small road as the presidential motorcade drove through.
President Banda’s special assistant for press and…
Now PF prove your popularity…!!! Even post newspaper are very afraid of the outcome of these election hence trying to play it cool this time around..!!! MMD will scoop this seat without mashall do. It is just matter of time, waiting to announcement tomorom. Sure, PF has faced financial problems to compaign, even presidential election will affect the opposition party if nothing is done now. SATA made alot of mistakes because he got alot of money from private and individuals to use in 2008 presidential by elections. POSTNESPAPER wanted sata to win so that they will not pay back the money they got from finance bank..!!! Choose leaders who are well up not these chansers to steal..!!!!
The die is cast.
Having stayed in Mporokoso, MMD will carry the day, forget about PF. Rural dwellers support the MMD. Its only thugs in urban areas who support PF. VIVA RB.
I think time is up for this Humpty Dumpty Banda when you hear about his attempted market visit in Mporokoso, people are not going to be fooled
# 7 and 11, the Post has shown such sensational pictures in the past but their candidate has lost. In Mpulungu they showed Sata addressing a mamoth rally at Musadabwe the eve of the elections. Less than 10 pipo had voted by 14hrs at that very polling station. They are merely making you think your party is popular so as to dispute the results when you finally loose. Check the same picture in the Post and see that some people are actually showing MMD symbols. If they are shouting for change, then it is dfeintely not Misapa being prefered because he is not change. There you are the Post shooting itself. Actually the MMD that has brought them a different candidate(Change). So those shouting ‘WE WANT CHANGE’ were actaully in solidarity with RB. Sata is presenting the same old chap(Misapa).
I hope and pray that the blood thirsty police will not start up something and go on a killing spree of innocent voters in Mporokoso.
The surveyor who plotted the road to mporokoso is excellent
Lets wait & see it’s just mid night, but DONTCHI KUBEBA!!!
Vote if you’re eligible to vote in Mporokoso. We want to see the true victor.
rb rb rb viva
The Post Newspaper always amuses me. The photo they have put does not show PF signs and what I can see is the MMD sign. Then in their text, they are saying RB addressed a public rally that was poory attended while they show PF Leader sitted with a small number of people whom they say was addressing. Anyway, we wait and see what this means. However, a word of caution to the Press that they should not instigate violence as Zambia is a peaceful nation.
RB is busy tarring roads in Eastern Province while important economic roads such as the above shown, Mbala-Nakonde, etc, have remained untarred for years and years.
Anyway that aside-the picture above is very refreshing-it reminds me of years back as a school boy when I used to visit my grandma in the rural North from the Copperbelt-the atmosphere was always breathtaking-banyenye, ifikubala, going fishing in Chambeshi river-I miss the down to earth simple life and although many of the beloved ones I used to visit are no more I still intend to drive all the way to these rural areas when I visit Zed because these rural roads still meander in my mind!!
Mazabuka on fire. 3 people have been killed today to add on the 2 or 3 yesterday. LT confirm this story it;s breaking news. mazabuka is still very tense especially with the latest deaths. It has worsened the situation. Todays two latest deaths, the dead bodies were taken and dumped at the POLICE station today.
18 you are blind you mean you cant see that 80% of those cadres are raising PF symbols? the problem is that you hate the post too much that you cant even pay attention.
Latest…!! There are signs that MMD has so far walloped PF in the bye-election in Mporokoso. We have always told SATA that he will not win this comming election. He has to sit down and anlyse the whole behaviour of his party. Since he the old of the two to the so called Failed pact…why can’t he give directions, always confusions.. What next for the PF now. You have seen that you are loosing alot of the bye-elections to the MMD and UPND are wining…!! Where are you going to get the votes to push you to the state house..!!! He has failed to take an seat away from the MMD while his partner managed to take 3 from the total 4 they contested… SATA has failed to win even a single one… Why does he want to be settled on as the presidential candidate..for this failed mariage..!!?
#19 JOBURG you are right it is also riminds me my home village. But this pank BWEZIN does not develop our areas only his, hope people of mpolokoso can teach him a learson lets wait and see people.

This is a limitmus test for all of us!
Lets jst wait and see who ll carry the day.

Latest report: PF 4236 VOTES, MMD 3457 VOTES UNIP: 126 VOTES NAREP: 89 VOTES Congratulations PF and SATA, through honorable MAYNARD. MMD is not accepting the results again like in SOLWEZI. Watch this space
#27 keep us informed are those offical results or what?
# 27 make as proud are your results real?
Kizito MMD has lost the by -election
#19 Mporokoso is death trap, people have spoken loudly to the MMD. Eastern province has received more development than Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces. Ruphia is not even ashamed for his Kwathu mentality. Mutati comes from this area but has failed to develop. No wander people from every other provinces feel it is not fair to have many ministerial appointments from Eastern, parastal companies led by Easterners. Ruphia will never change his character as a tribalist. Since he came into politics he has practiced this and it is the inborn thing that he can not religuish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Namboard and as a governor of Katete. . Many people in MMD are tied and fedup with his way of running the party and govt. The fear is that he has the power to sack but election time is different
